• What's the easiest way to get an iPhone 3GS movie into iMovie?

  It seems like the steps right now are: Shoot movie sync iPhone with Mac via iTunes Open iPhoto Import photos from iPhone into iPhoto Open iMovie (or retart if it was already running) On startup, iMovie detects videos in iPhoto and imports them. Yikes. Is there an easier way? It's a bit odd that the videos are handled as photos, in the first place. And no, I'm not jailbreaking my iPhone simply to save me a few of these steps.

• AdvancedFirewall: Adding a Program to the Inbound Rules

  I am writing an application that contains a web server running on port 50000. On Windows 7, short of turning the firewall off completely, I am having trouble configuring the firewall to allow other computers on the same private LAN to connect to the server. Simply adding the program to the allowed programs list doesn't seem to work. The network connection is set to be a "Home" network (but I am not using Home Networking). Can anyone suggest where I should be looking to troubleshoot this? Bruce

• Let putty watch for specific output in stdout and notify

  Do you know any way to introduce a notification feature to putty client? I would like to setup some regular expressions or simply text strings and be notified (by sound or some tooltip) when this content appears in stdout. If not specific in putty, how can I get it done? There used to be a similar feature in older version of KDE's konsole terminal, but even now I can't see it.

• Ubuntu hardware wireless switch has no effect after suspend and 13.10 upgrade

This question has an answer urging to install the original driver, but it wasn't an "accepted answer" so I'd rather not take a chance on it. • Internet Explorer wont open docx files, saves them as zip

  I have several docx documents on an Intranet for my work, but IE8 refuses to open them, instaed only saving them as a zip (filename_docx.zip). This seems to be only an IE8 problem (surprise, surprise!) as both FF and Chrome open the documents just fine. Unfortunately as this is work based, I cannot simply drop IE as I would, in favour of a decent browser. Does anybody know how to fix this issue in IE? Thanks.

• What is the simplest (free) way to change page numbers on a pdf?

  Hi Folks, I have a pdf document I created through non-Acrobat means (printing to pdf, then merging a bunch of pdfs), but I'd like to manually change the page numbers (i.e. the first several pages are simply title pages, "page 1" is really the 7th page of the pdf). • Restart a single apache vhost

  I've got an Apache (2) server with several virtual hosts. I currently have mysql db locks problems on one virtual host. A common and practical way to easy release those locks and unlock the site (while the dev team refactor its application to avoid the locks), is to simply restart the apache server. Simply setting the article's Access Level to Restricted makes it disappear rather than prompting for a login. • Virtualbox for Mac OS X - using an external USB drive, which filesystem is ideal?

  Assuming that I am NOT going to add NTFS drivers that allow read+write of NTFS partitions, I was wondering if the choice of filesystem when I partition an external USB drive matters. The choices appear to be HFS+ vs. FAT32. For the time being, I simply created two half-sized paritions, one of each type. :) I plan to run various versions of Windows, and keep the VirtualBox files on the external drive.

  I am trying to redirect /folder to / using .htaccess but all am I getting is the Apache HTTP Server Test Page. My root directory looks like this: / .htaccess -/folder -/folder2 -/folder3 My .htaccess looks like this: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/folder/ RewriteRule (.*) /folder/$1 What am I doing wrong? I checked my httpd.conf (I'm running Centos) and the mod_rewrite library is being loaded. As a side note, my server is not a www server, it's simply a virtual machine so it's hostname is centosvm.

• Hide non printable characters in vim

  Vim shows non-printable characters prefixed with a ^ (for instance ^@ for a NUL byte). I have a column based file containing both printable and non-printable characters which is difficult to read, since each non-printable character shifts all remaining columns one character to the right. Is there a way to hide non-printable characters or simply display a placeholder char instead? I also don't mind having every character be represented by two characters.

  Hi, on Mac, you know there is no 'merge files' when you command+c/command+v some folder on another one, it actually replaces it. I'm simply wondering on what UNIX is this based?   I have a SQL 2008 R2 Express on which backups are made by executing sqlmaint from windows task planer. Several backups ran into an error and got stuck in state SUSPENDED with wait type WRITELOG. How can I get these backup processes to stop so they release resources? Simply killing the processes doesn't work. The process will stay in KILL/ROLL for a long time. This didn't change for several hours.

• How to remove RAID flag on unstriped drive without losing data?

  I have a Gigabyte Z68X-UD4-B3 motherboard. It advertises this new thing called "XHD", which is like RAID but makes a SSD and traditional-style drive work together to enable high speed with high capacity. I don't want to use this feature, and I already have Windows 7 64 installed without using this feature. When I first installed my 2 hard drives (1 SSD and 1 traditional-style drive) in my machine and booted it up for the first time, it ran a program from the mobo that asked me if I wanted to set up XHD. Thinking it would go to some config screen, I said yes. It immediately started doing something with my drives and finished. I considered that strange, but figured it wouldn't matter when I simply install Windows onto my SSD only. I now have my BIOS and Windows running in AHCI mode with no RAID arrays and separate drives. My SSD is one of those new Corsair Force GT drives which loses power every so often, causing Windows to BSOD. I've figured everything out about this problem, including installing the latest firmware from Corsair, and the only way to fix it at this point is by installing Intel Rapid Storage Technology to control AHCI instead of Windows, since the Windows AHCI driver disables the drive's power every once in a while and can't be configured not to do so. I've tried installing Intel Rapid Storage Technology. When I reboot my machine after doing so, it BSODs just after the Windows logo. I've figured out this is because my SSD and my traditional drive are flagged as RAID, as seen in the "Intel Matrix Storage Manager" program found by switching the BIOS hard drive handling to "RAID" mode. This is due to the XHD auto-config program I mentioned earlier. Normally, the BIOS is set to AHCI, and when the drives boot in AHCI mode, they work perfectly. So, I've concluded the data is stored in AHCI mode but the drives' flags are set to RAID. I've figured out that I can accomplish my objective by using the "Intel Matrix Storage Manager" program on the mobo (with "Reset disks to non-RAID"), but doing so would cause it to completely wipe the drives I select. I want to simply toggle these flags from RAID to AHCI so Intel Rapid Storage Technology doesn't fail and cause a BSOD upon booting, but without wiping the drives.

• Enabling Shell colours through Putty SSH

  I have set a number of configurations in my .bashrc file to set the appearance of shell on my Redhat machine. However, when I login as root using Putty, the colours are not shown. I can enable them again by typing 'su', which simply puts me back to root like I was when I logged into putty, but that isn't exaclty ideal.   Hello, I would like to know what kind of electrical signals does a cpu send to a dynamic RAM when it wants to write one bit (a 1 or 0). Is it simply that cpu sends just a single electric pulse, and if that electric pulse's voltage is higher than a certain level, it charges the capacitor to a voltage level that is "1" and if it is at a lower voltage band, it charges capacitor to level that it is "0"?
