  • Windows 2008 R2 forgets static IP configuration after reboot

    I've got an issue where a Windows 2008 R2 Standard (SP1) server loses its static IP configuration upon a reboot. It's a sysprep'd image. The following steps reproduces the problem: Using the SAC, set the IP using 'i' Use the Win32 EnableStatic() method to set an IP (and then SetGateways()) through PowerShell Reboot The machine boots up with the following configuration: Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : [...] Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address. . : 169.254.152.31 (incorrect) Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0 (incorrect, was set to /24) Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 1.1.1.1 (correct) Occasionally, the gateway is also incorrect (0.0.0.0) The images have a script that runs 'netsh int ip reset' after sysprep finishes (before the reboot), so it appears that does not solve the issue. (the problem also happens without this step) After the reboot, using 'i' on the SAC resolves the issue permanently. (But I'd like to know the root cause as having to run 'i' again isn't ideal)

    hi guys, i'm totally new to the asp.net mvc stack and i was wondering what happened to the simple Page object and the Request ServerVariables object? basically what i wanted to do is to pull out the client's pc ip address. but i fail to understand how the current MVC structure has changed all of this. as far as i can understand, most of the variable object has been replaced by the HttpRequest variants? anybody care to share some resources? really a sea of stuff to learn in the asp.net mvc world :) thanks.

    For my programming languages class one hw problem asks: Are local variables in FORTRAN static or stack dynamic? Are local variables that are INITIALIZED to a default value static or stack dynamic? Show me some code with an explanation to back up your answer. Hint: The easiest way to check this is to have your program test the history sensitivity of a subprogram. Look at what happens when you initialize the local variable to a value and when you don’t. You may need to call more than one subprogram to lock in your answer with confidence. I wrote a few subroutines: - create a variable - print the variable - initialize the variable to a value - print the variable again Each successive call to the subroutine prints out the same random value for the variable when it is uninitialized and then it prints out the initialized value. What is this random value when the variable is uninitialized? Does this mean Fortran uses the same memory location for each call to the subroutine or it dynamically creates space and initializes the variable randomly? My second subroutine also creates a variable, but then calls the first subroutine. The result is the same except the random number printed of the uninitialized variable is different. I am very confused. Please help! Thank you so much.

While working with them, many questions popped up which i could not find satisying answers when i searched for them, hence putting them here. The questions about shared libraries i have are: 1.) How is shared library different than static library? What are the Key differences in way they are created, they execute? 2.) In case of a shared library at what point are the addresses where a particular function in shared library will be loaded and run from, given? Who gives those functions is load/run addresses? 3.) Will an application linked against shared library be slower in execution as compared to that which is linked with a static library? 4.) Will application executable size differ in these two cases? 5.) Can one do source level debugging of by stepping into functions defined inside a shared library? Is any thing extra needed to make these functions visible to the application? 6.)   • Why a "private static" is not seen in a method?

    I have a class with the following declaration of the fields: public class Game { private static String outputFileName; .... } I set the value of the outputFileName in the main method of the class. I also have a write method in the class which use the outputFileName. I always call write after main sets value for outputFileName. But write still does not see the value of the outputFileName. It say that it's equal to null. Could anybody, pleas, tell me what I am doing wrong?   • Multiple static WAN IP addresses to single LAN subnet

    Below is my home network topology. I currently have 5 static IP addresses, 3 of which are in use by 3 routers. These routers in-turn subnet internal networks and port forward. I use my SSL VPN appliance to remote home from work or on the road. At this point I can remotely administer my Windows Server. I know the network is setup wrong, I was matching existing hardware the best I knew how. http://storage.jessyhoule.com.s3.amazonaws.com/network_topology.jpg Ok this said, here is the problem... One of my websites on my Windows Server now needs to be secure (SSL using port 443). However, I'm already port forwarding port 443 to my VPN appliance. Furthermore, if I'm going to have to reconfigure the network, I would really like to be able to use the SSL VPN to remotely administer all machines. I mentioned this to a friend of mine, who said that what I was looking for was a firewall. Explaining that a firewall would take in multiple static (WAN) IP addresses, and still allow all internal devices to be on the same network. So, basically, I could supply my SSL VPN appliance it's very own static (WAN) IP address routing, and yet have it on the same internal network (192.168.1.x) as all my other devices. The first question is... Does this sound right? Secondly, would you suggest anything different? And, finally, what is the cheapest way to do this? I am started down the road of downloading/installing untangle and smoothwall to see if they will do the job, hoping they take multiple static (WAN) IP addresses.   • How to force inclusion of an object file in a static library when linking into executable?

    I have a C++ project that due to its directory structure is set up as a static library A, which is linked into shared library B, which is linked into executable C. (This is a cross-platform project using CMake, so on Windows we get A.lib, B.dll, and C.exe, and on Linux we get libA.a, libB.so, and C.) Library A has an init function (A_init, defined in A/initA.cpp), that is called from library B's init function (B_init, defined in B/initB.cpp), which is called from C's main. Thus, when linking B, A_init (and all symbols defined in initA.cpp) is linked into B (which is our desired behavior). The problem comes in that the A library also defines a function (Af, defined in A/Afort.f) that is intended to by dynamically loaded (i.e. LoadLibrary/GetProcAddress on Windows and dlopen/dlsym on Linux). Since there are no references to Af from library B, symbols from A/Afort.o are not included into B. On Windows, we can artifically create a reference by using the pragma: #pragma comment (linker, "/export:_Af") Since this is a pragma, it only works on Windows (using Visual Studio 2008). To get it working on Linux, we've tried adding the following to A/initA.cpp: extern void Af(void); static void (*Af_fp)(void) = &Af; This does not cause the symbol Af to be included in the final link of B. How can we force the symbol Af to be linked into B?

    Last October I learnt my company wanted to put together a new blog/social networking policy. I decided that out of respect for my employer I wouldn’t blog until this was sorted out. This was perhaps was an easy decision to make as I was separating from my ex-wife at the time and frankly needed the time to concentrate on other things. So now the company has a brand new policy and I’m back into the dating game I thought I would blow off the cobwebs and get back to what I enjoy doing. First and foremost SQL Server 2008 R2 is almost here and to mark that fact I will be in London on Thursday at the Microsoft UK Tech-Day’s event. The subjects I most want to see are … Power Pivot – this is such an exciting technology! I’ve been a fan of Qlikview for years so it will be good to see how it compares SQL Azure – Cloud Computing is big right now, so it will be interesting to see what the RTM product can do. I have afew ideas for its use and will be interesting to see if SQL Azure is the right product … more on this in the next few weeks. Master Data Services – This is one of those technologies that Microsoft hasn’t been making much noise about … and frankly should have because it is a game changer. Hmmm, queue future “What is … ?” post StreamInsight – An exciting events technology, again another “What is … ?” post is around the corner on that. So, you thought that SQL Server 2008 R2 was just a release to make sure the years between SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2010 weren’t so long? I am however disappointed that Clustering across Subnets didn’t make it and not sure if Control Points made it but all will be revealed later on this week. Till then I will have to wait!   • Windows 7 Default Gateway problem

    Hi, I have a strange problem (or at least seems strange to me) the below are IP configurations for two laptops on my home network which consists of a main router 192.168.11.1 and a connected wireless router (i know this can cause problems but has always worked until I got the win7 machine) at 192.168.11.2 with DHCP disabled. Laptop 1 - Win XP IP: Dynamically assigned by main router default gateway: 192.168.11.1 (main router) This machine gets perfect connectivity. Laptop 2 - Win7 IP: dynamically assigned by main router Default Gateway: 192.168.11.2 THIS IS THE PROBLEM... I cannot seem to get this machine to default to the main router for the gateway UNLESS I go to a static configuration which I would rather not do since I regularly go between my home and public networks. Why is my Win7 machine not finding the main gateway the same way that the other laptop is? I believe that the rest of my setup is fine as it has always worked and it works perfectly when set as static ip and gateway. Please help! Thanks

  • Display tracert on Google or Bing Maps

    Is there a program of perhaps website that can display a list of ip-adresses on Google or Bing maps? For instance, if I do tracert -d www.youtube.com, I'll get a bunch of IP-addresses, displaying the path my request travelled. I'd think it funny to see this on a map, but I find it hard to enter all these IP-addresses manually. Does anybody know a program that can do this?

  • Using Static Public IPs and Private DHCP IPs on the Same Router

    I have a subnet of public IP addresses that my ISP has provided me with. They are routed through my router (how profound) that has a a static IP. I have successfully assigned the IPs from that subnet to various devices on my network. This works just fine, they get their own public IP, they can access the Internet, and the Internet can access them. However, I would like to also assign some private IPs on my network through that same router and put them behind NAT. Is this even possible? Could a VLAN be of use? I would like to avoid putting another router on the network, which makes this is quite an awkward question.

    Hey, I bought a new website, and the company gived me another free domain name, so when I asked for the socond they created it and they told me to change the DNS to look like the first one. It's been a week waiting for it to propagate, today when I type the url I got this error message : If you are the web site owner, it is possible you have reached this page because: * The IP address has changed. * There has been a server misconfiguration. * The site may have been moved to a different server. If you are the owner of this website and were not expecting to see this page, please contact your hosting provider. When I try to add the second domain to my cpanel (Addon domain) I get also another error : The addon domain “abcdef.com” has been created. An account with that login already exists. Do you have any ideas about this problem. Thanks. EDIT I tried to flush the DNS with ipconfig /flushdns, but It's not changing anything.

  • TCP/IP- what is it exactly?

    I know that this question sounds stupid, but over all these years, I still have difficulty explaining TCP/IP to people. I don't completely get it myself, and even after reading up on it, the distinction is not very clear. What I get so far is that IP deals with networks while TCP involves delivery of messages over that network. I'm not totally convinced though. Also, they reside on different layers of the Internet architecture. Could anyone disambiguate this distinction using a simple analogy or examples? Also, I read this somewhere The difference is that TCP is responsible for the data delivery of a packet and IP is responsible for the logical addressing.   • Routing WIFI and LAN for specific traffic

    I have two network devices aboard my macbook pro: WIFI (en1): Used for general traffic. Connects to an ip of 192.168.19.* via DHCP LAN (en0): Used for specific traffic. Connects to an ip of 192.168.2.10 as a static IP. Does not connect to a router, only a switch for direct routing connection. I have 4 IP addresses I need to access on the LAN: 192.168.2.1 192.168.2.21 192.168.2.20 192.168.2.30 The rest of the traffic needs to go to WIFI. I have tried setting up a routing table for the specific ip addresses, but I only managed to mess up my network. I do not venture out into the world of networking too often, but this was the latest command I have been trying: sudo route add -host 192.168.2.30 -interface en0 This command killed my ability to use ping. It told me that ping could not allocate memory (is that even possible)? It also killed my wifi access. Logging out and back in fixed the issue. I really do not mind to make this solution permanent, so I am fine with a temporary routing. EDIT: If I currently have been trying: sudo route flush sudo route add default 192.168.19.1 This gets everything to work for about a minute. But after such minute it "forgets" the routing to WiFi while retaining LAN's (en0) routing. If I unplug and replug my LAN (en0) cable, the process works for another minute.

  • I can't externally access my home server's wordpress website

    Basically, I can access everything just fine using 127.0.0.1, but if I use my external IP (123.123.123.123), I get page not found. My router is port forwarding HTTP port 80 to port 8080 on my servers internal IP address. In other words: (Application: HTTP | Start: 80 | End: 8080 | Protocol: Both | IP Address 192.168.0.101 | Enable [YES]) I know it's forwarding properly, because when I stop port forwarding, I can access my router page by using my external IP.
