  • How do I use PerformanceCounterType AverageTimer32?

    I'm trying to measure the time it takes to execute a piece of code on my production server. I'd like to monitor this information in real time, so I decided to give Performance Analyser a whizz. I understand from MSDN that I need to create both an AverageTimer32 and an AverageBase performance counter, which I duly have. I increment the counter in my program, and I can see the CallCount go up and down, but the AverageTime is always zero. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!     I have the following XML which needs deserializing/serializing: <instance> <dog> <items> <item> <label>Spaniel</label> </item> </items> </dog> <cat> <items> <item> <label>Tabby</label> </item> </items> </cat> </instance> I cannot change the XML structure. I need to map this to the following class: [Serializable, XmlRoot("instance")] public class AnimalInstance { public string Dog { get; set; } public string Cat { get; set; } } I'm not really sure where to start on this one without manually parsing the XML. I'd like to keep the code as brief as possible. Any ideas? (and no, my project doesn't actually involve cats and dogs).

    I have a setting in my theme that allows the site owner to set the maximum number of posts ($maxPosts) to display in a "Recent Posts" menu. I'm using a custom script to generate the recent posts (because the Recent Posts widget does not highlight the current page, which I need for my css). My menu also is set up to display a "View All" link below the post listing, but only if the actual post count is $maxposts I'm trying to work out the best method for getting the post count and comparing it to $maxposts in order to determine whether or not to show a "View All" link. I'm sure there's probably a better way, but here's my code. I just need to count up until the point of maxPosts + 1, and that's where I'm struggling a bit because the user could elect to make maxPosts = -1 which means they want to show all posts. But this would be impractical, so I would probably set a upper limit of 20...

    I am looking for a method to build a hierarchy of words. Background: I am a "amateur" natural language processing enthusiast and right now one of the problems that I am interested in is determining the hierarchy of word semantics from a group of words. For example, if I have the set which contains a "super" representation of others, i.e. [cat, dog, monkey, animal, bird, ... ] I am interested to use any technique which would allow me to extract the word 'animal' which has the most meaningful and accurate representation of the other words inside this set. Note: they are NOT the same in meaning. cat != dog != monkey != animal BUT cat is a subset of animal and dog is a subset of animal. I know by now a lot of you will be telling me to use wordnet. Well, I will try to but I am actually interested in doing a very domain specific area which WordNet doesn't apply because: 1) Most words are not found in Wordnet 2) All the words are in another language; translation is possible but is to limited effect. another example would be: [ noise reduction, focal length, flash, functionality, .. ] so functionality includes everything in this set. I have also tried crawling wikipedia pages and applying some techniques on td-idf etc but wikipedia pages doesn't really do much either. Can someone possibly enlighten me as to what direction my research should go towards? (I could use anything)

    Hello, I'm new to C++, and I'm trying to write a short C++ program that reads lines of text from a file, with each line containing one integer key and one alphanumeric string value (no embedded whitespace). The number of lines is not known in advance, (i.e., keep reading lines until end of file is reached). The program needs to use the 'std::map' data structure to store integers and strings read from input (and to associate integers with strings). The program then needs to output string values (but not integer values) to standard output, 1 per line, sorted by integer key values (smallest to largest).     Hi, I have a vector of pointers to Mouse objects called 'mice'. I'm passing the mice to the cat by reference. vector <Mouse*> mice; Cat * c; c->lookForMouse(&mice); And here's my lookForMouse() member function void Cat::lookForMouse(vector <Mouse*> *mice) { ... } And now to the problem! Within the function above, I can't seem to access my mice. This below will not work mice[i]->isActive(); The error message I receive suggests to use mice[i].isActive(), but this throws an error saying isActive() is not a member of std::vector<_Ty ... This works though... vector <Mouse*> miceCopy = *mice; miceCopy[i]->isActive(); I understand that I shouldn't be creating another vector of mice here, it defeats the whole point of passing it by reference (let me know if I'm wrong)... Why can't I do mice[i]-isActive() What should I be doing? Thanks for your time and help :D James.

    I have a set of strings which contain space-separated elements. I want to build a matrix which will tell me which elements were part of which strings. I tried turning the strings into factors prior to going into the loop so that I'd be matching numbers instead of strings, but that actually makes R crash. I've also tried going for partial matrix assignment (IE, resMatrix[i,x] <- 1) where i is the number of the string and x is the vector of factors. No dice there either, as it seems to keep on running infinitely.

  • How can I use SQL Server's full text search across multiple rows at once?

    I'm trying to improve the search functionality on my web forums. I've got a table of posts, and each post has (among other less interesting things): PostID, a unique ID for the individual post. ThreadID, an ID of the thread the post belongs to. There can be any number of posts per thread. Text, because a forum would be really boring without it. I want to write an efficient query that will search the threads in the forum for a series of words, and it should return a hit for any ThreadID for which there are posts that include all of the search words. For example, let's say that thread 9 has post 1001 with the word "cat" in it, and also post 1027 with the word "hat" in it. I want a search for cat hat to return a hit for thread 9. This seems like a straightforward requirement, but I don't know of an efficient way to do it. Using the regular FREETEXT and CONTAINS capabilities for N'cat AND hat' won't return any hits in the above example because the words exist in different posts, even though those posts are in the same thread. (As far as I can tell, when using CREATE FULLTEXT INDEX I have to give it my index on the primary key PostID, and can't tell it to index all posts with the same ThreadID together.) The solution that I currently have in place works, but sucks: maintain a separate table that contains the entire concatenated post text of every thread, and make a full text index on THAT. I'm looking for a solution that doesn't require me to keep a duplicate copy of the entire text of every thread in my forums. Any ideas? Am I missing something obvious?

    Need some help assigning a mouseover event to display some icons that start out hidden. For every <li> in the ul, I have icons. When the user mouses over the <li> I want the span tag with a class called "icons" to be displayed. When the mouse out event occurs remove the class and/or just hide the span. The problem for me is how to assign event so just the span tag and its contents appear and disapear when the mouse hovers over the <li>.   • EXC_BAD_ACCESS error on a UITableView with ARC?

    I am building a simple app with a custom bar tab which loads the content of the ViewController from a UITableView located in another ViewController. However, every time I try to scroll on the tableview, I get an exc_bad_access error. I enabled NSzombies and guard malloc to get more info on the issue.   • TTLauncherItem: change badge immediately (or: how to refresh TTLauncherView)

    I have a TTLauncherView with some TTLauncherItems. These show badges, representing messages from the network. I set the badges in viewWillAppear:, so if I switch to another view and then return, the correct badges are shown. But I want to update the badges as soon a message comes in. Calling setNeedsDisplay on TTLauncherView doesn't help?   • UITableView not displaying parsed data

    I have a UITableView which is setup in Interface Builder and connected properly to its class in Xcode. I also have a "Importer" Class which downloads and parses an RSS feed and stores the information in an NSMutableArray. However I have verified the parsing is working properly (using breakpoints and NSlog) but no data is showing in the UITable View. Any ideas as to what the problem could be? I'm almost out of them. It's based on the XML performance Apple example. I removed the line [super setNeedsDisplay]; but it becomes 4 times. 2) What is that invalid context error? Thanks guys.

    I have just noticed that my ViewController does not call init (See below) when it starts up. -(id)init { self = [super init]; if(self) { NSLog(@"_init: %@", [self class]); otherStuff... } return self; } Is there a reason for this, or is it replaced by viewDidLoad -(void)viewDidLoad { otherStuff ..
