  • nginx timeout albeit ridicolous configuration

    - by Joa Ebert
The scenario is an API server that should handle uploads. Posting on my.host.com/api/upload should do something with the body the client sends. However the API server has been designed to block the whole request until it fully processed the file, including some analysis which can take up to approx. 5min (...!). This has to change of course. In the meantime I wanted to setup nginx as a load balancer in front of the API servers. I quickly ran into a timeout issue, consulted Google and came up with this ridiculous test configuration: user www-data; worker_processes 4; error_log /var/log/nginx/error.log; pid /var/run/nginx.pid; events { worker_connections 1024; } http { include /etc/nginx/mime.types; access_log off; sendfile on; send_timeout 3600; keepalive_timeout 3600 120; tcp_nopush on; tcp_nodelay on; gzip off; client_header_timeout 3600; client_body_timeout 3600; proxy_send_timeout 3600; proxy_read_timeout 3600; proxy_connect_timeout 1800; proxy_next_upstream error; include /etc/nginx/conf.d/*.conf; include /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/*; } And upstream test { server host1; server host2; } server { listen 80; server_name my.host.com; client_max_body_size 10m; location /api/ { proxy_pass http://test; proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; proxy_set_header Host $host; proxy_redirect off; } } Still, when an upload happens, I get the following result in the error.log: 2010/12/22 13:36:42 [error] 5256#0: *187359 upstream timed out (110: Connection timed out) while reading response header from upstream, client: xx.xx.xx.xx, server: my.host.com, request: "POST /api/upload HTTP/1.1", upstream: "http://apiserver:80/upload", host: "my.host.com" What else could I do? If I look at the log of the API server I still see that it is processing the request and analyzing the file. But I think 3600 seconds as a timeout should be more than enough. This happens even after a could of seconds. And I did a reload and force-reload of the configuration as well of course.

  • Nagios test of smtp configuration

    - by Funky Si
Is there a way of configuring a nagios check that a smtp service is correctly configured and emails are going out. I have a check that the service is running, but recently we noticed that the configuration had been altered and no emails where going out, but the service was still running. One idea I had was to schedule a regular email to be sent, is it possible for nagios to check for that email and throw an alert if it didn't detect it? Any other ideas to monitor this gratefully received.

  • Ubuntu and Postfix Configuration Issues

    I recently installed postfix on Ubuntu Natty. I'm having a problem with the configuration. Firstly here is my postfix configuration file: # Debian specific: Specifying a file name will cause the first # line of that file to be used as the name. The Debian default # is /etc/mailname. myorigin = /etc/mailname smtpd_banner = $myhostname ESMTP $mail_name (Ubuntu) biff = no # appending .domain is the MUA's job. append_dot_mydomain = no # Uncomment the next line to generate "delayed mail" warnings delay_warning_time = 4h readme_directory = no # TLS parameters smtpd_tls_cert_file=/etc/ssl/certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem smtpd_tls_key_file=/etc/ssl/private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key smtpd_use_tls=yes smtpd_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${data_directory}/smtpd_scache smtp_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${data_directory}/smtp_scache # See /usr/share/doc/postfix/TLS_README.gz in the postfix-doc package for # information on enabling SSL in the smtp client. mydomain = $myorigin myhostname = mail.nairanode.com alias_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/aliases alias_database = hash:/etc/postfix/aliases # this specifies where the virtual mailbox folders will be located virtual_mailbox_base = /var/spool/mail/virtual # this specifies where the virtual mailbox folders will be located virtual_mailbox_base = /var/spool/mail/virtual # this is for the mailbox location for each user virtual_mailbox_maps = mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql_mailbox.cf # and this is for aliases virtual_alias_maps = mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql_alias.cf # and this is for domain lookups virtual_mailbox_domains = mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql_domains.cf # this is how to connect to the domains (all virtual, but the option is there) # not used yet # transport_maps = mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql_transport.cf virtual_uid_maps = static:5000 virtual_gid_maps = static:5000 mydestination = $myorigin, $myhostname, localhost.localdomain, , localhost relayhost = mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8 [::ffff:127.0.0.0]/104 [::1]/128 mailbox_size_limit = 0 recipient_delimiter = + inet_interfaces = all #mynetworks_style = host # ADDITIONAL unknown_local_recipient_reject_code = 550 maximal_queue_lifetime = 7d minimal_backoff_time = 1000s maximal_backoff_time = 8000s smtp_helo_timeout = 60s smtpd_recipient_limit = 16 smtpd_soft_error_limit = 3 smtpd_hard_error_limit = 12 # Requirements for the HELO statement smtpd_helo_restrictions = permit_mynetworks, warn_if_reject reject_non_fqdn_hostname, reject_invalid_hostname, permit # Requirements for the sender details smtpd_sender_restrictions = permit_mynetworks, warn_if_reject reject_non_fqdn_sender, reject_unknown_sender_domain, reject_unauth_$ # Requirements for the connecting server smtpd_client_restrictions = reject_rbl_client sbl.spamhaus.org, reject_rbl_client blackholes.easynet.nl, reject_rbl_client dnsbl.n$ # Requirement for the recipient address smtpd_recipient_restrictions = reject_unauth_pipelining, permit_mynetworks, reject_non_fqdn_recipient, reject_unknown_recipient_do$ # require proper helo at connections smtpd_helo_required = yes # waste spammers time before rejecting them smtpd_delay_reject = yes disable_vrfy_command = yes Here is also my /etc/postfix/aliases: # See man 5 aliases for format postmaster: root Here is also my /etc/mailname: nairanode.com I've also updated my hostname to nairanode.com However, when I run postalias /etc/postfix/aliases I get the following : postalias: warning: valid_hostname: invalid character 47(decimal): /etc/mailname postalias: fatal: file /etc/postfix/main.cf: parameter mydomain: bad parameter value: /etc/mailname Is there something I'm doing wrong?! I noticed that when I replace myorigin = /etc/mailname with myorigin = nairanode.com in my postfix config, I don't see any errors anymore after calling postalias. Is this a bug or something?!

  • HP Proliant G7 hardware RAID configuration automation with ribcl

    - by karthik
    I have been trying to automate hardware RAID configuration of HP proliant machines before OS installation (So I can not use hpacucli) ssh into iLO3 doesn't have option for RAID configuration I use ribcl but there is no command for RAID config, however I see this under the command GET_EMBEDDED_HEALTH. <STORAGE> <CONTROLLER> <LABEL VALUE="Controller on System Board"/> <STATUS VALUE="OK"/> <CONTROLLER_STATUS VALUE="OK"/> <SERIAL_NUMBER VALUE="50014380215F0070"/> <MODEL VALUE="HP Smart Array P420i Controller"/> <FW_VERSION VALUE="3.41"/> <DRIVE_ENCLOSURE> <LABEL VALUE="Port 1I Box 1"/> <STATUS VALUE="OK"/> <DRIVE_BAY VALUE="04"/> </DRIVE_ENCLOSURE> <DRIVE_ENCLOSURE> <LABEL VALUE="Port 2I Box 0"/> <STATUS VALUE="OK"/> <DRIVE_BAY VALUE="01"/> </DRIVE_ENCLOSURE> <LOGICAL_DRIVE> <LABEL VALUE="01"/> <STATUS VALUE="OK"/> <CAPACITY VALUE="68 GB"/> <FAULT_TOLERANCE VALUE="RAID 0"/> <PHYSICAL_DRIVE> <LABEL VALUE="Port 1I Box 1 Bay 3"/> <STATUS VALUE="OK"/> <SERIAL_NUMBER VALUE="6TA0N3SZ0000B231CYDT"/> <MODEL VALUE="EH0072FAWJA"/> <CAPACITY VALUE="68 GB"/> <LOCATION VALUE="Port 1I Box 1 Bay 3"/> <FW_VERSION VALUE="HPDH"/> <DRIVE_CONFIGURATION VALUE="Configured"/> </PHYSICAL_DRIVE> </LOGICAL_DRIVE> </CONTROLLER> </STORAGE> My question is, is there a way I modify/create this xml piece (say I have 2 Logical drive with one spare) and reboot the server it takes effect ? If this approach is not correct are there any other ways to automate hardware raid config ?

  • Canonical configuration for multiple-instance Postfix?

    - by threecheeseopera
I recently attempted to reconfigure an existing single-instance Postfix server (multi-homed) to support multiple MTA instances, but failed miserably (read: open relay, nastygram from ISP). It appears that there are several methods that can be used to accomplish this, and the various (and numerous) secondary sources that I found online were 'all over the map' with respect to which they used/glued together. Can anyone provide a working configuration (or tips) that use postmulti to manage a multi-instance Postfix setup?

  • Why does my MacBook Pro have long ping times over Wi-Fi?

    - by randynov
I have been having problems connecting with my Wi-Fi. It is weird, the ping times to the router (<30 feet away) seem to surge, often getting over 10 seconds before slowly coming back down. You can see the trend below. I'm on a MacBook Pro and have done the normal stuff (reset the PRAM and SMC, changed wireless channels, etc.). It happens across different routers, so I think it must be my laptop, but I don't know what it could be. The RSSI value hovers around -57, but I've seen the transmit rate flip between 0, 48 and 54. The signal strength is ~60% with 9% noise. Currently, there are 17 other wireless networks in range, but only one in the same channel. 1 - How can I figure out what's going on? 2 - How can I correct the situation? • DD-WRT Router acting as a Switch and Wi-Fi AP

    - by dotnetchris
Recently I upgraded to Comcast Business and their modem has a built-in router so I took off my DD-WRT router and moved to a location in my home where I needed more ports and Wi-Fi (preferably without running new Ethernet cables since it's 50-100 foot run through floor and ceilings). I have my network cable from my Comcast modem going into Port 1 of my DD-WRT router with Port 2 and 3 being networked PCs. I have DD-WRT setup as a DHCP forwarder with the firewall disabled. This lets my all of my devices access the network fine. Is the correct the way to do this? Or is this a less optimal solution and it should be done in a slightly different way?

  • Cisco 891w multiple VLAN configuration

    - by Jessica
I'm having trouble getting my guest network up. I have VLAN 1 that contains all our network resources (servers, desktops, printers, etc). I have the wireless configured to use VLAN1 but authenticate with wpa2 enterprise. The guest network I just wanted to be open or configured with a simple WPA2 personal password on it's own VLAN2. I've looked at tons of documentation and it should be working but I can't even authenticate on the guest network! I've posted this on cisco's support forum a week ago but no one has really responded. I could really use some help. So if anyone could take a look at the configurations I posted and steer me in the right direction I would be extremely grateful. • How to install Archlinux on a acer emachines em350 ?

    - by zillion
Do a 64 bits version will work better if the cpu is 64 bits capable ? Can I remove all added stuffs on Archbang or CTKArchLive to return to plain Archlinux with openbox that I can configure myself easily, so I can install Archlinux faster ? I tried and installed Arch properly but I need to install the broadcom bcm 4727 driver (b43,wl,sta,open source), which driver do I need and how can I install it by my usb on Archlinux CLI made with base, sudo and wireless_tools only ?

  • Our wi-fi at work is ridiculously slow, will adding more range extenders improve it?

    - by john
At work, we have two wireless networks (e.g., Work1 Work2); the Work2 is used downstairs and Work1 is used upstairs. However, both are notoriously slow. The connection is better when we are wired in, but unfortunately due to our building being very old and our company growing very fast, most employees are not seated near the walls where the ethernet cables are. I had Cox, our ISP, run a bandwidth utilization test and it doesn't seem like we are capping out on upstream/downstream, which leads me to believe that it's strictly an issue with the wireless networks (which were implemented before I got there). The wireless networks are both Apple Airport Extremes. Is there anything I can do to improve the situation for everyone? Speeds are extremely slow, and sometimes drops out.

  • Troubleshooting wireless connection problem / site survey?

    - by johnnyb10
I just started in the IT department of a small company (200 users) and it's clear that one of the main problems that is driving everyone crazy is the spotty nature of the wireless connectivity throughout the office, particularly in certain conference rooms. This is a huge problem because the connection often drops during important presentations to clients. I was hired to help ease the load on the existing IT admin, who has done a great job, but is overloaded with many other tasks to deal with. So I would like to try to help out with this wireless issue. I am looking for advice on the best way to solve this problem--a realistic troubleshooting methodology that does not require me to spend any money. So far, I've experimented with Ekahau Heat Mapper, which is free and helps create a site survey. But I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for or if there are other programs/tools/methods I should try as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. [Some background: The wireless setup consists of an HP ProCurve Mobility MSM (710?) controller that controls 10 access points throughout the building. There are three virtual wireless networks configured on the controller: one seems to be a default that cannot be changed, one is for internal employees and authenticates via Active Directory, and the third is a guest network for visitors. When I use HeatMapper, these show up as three different SSIDs, with different MAC addresses, all on the same channel. At first I thought maybe this would cause interference, but this seems to be the way the controller works;apparently, it automatically configures the channels to avoid interference from the other APs on the network.]

  • forwarding packets from wireless nic wlan0 to another Wireless nic wlan1

    - by user179759
I have two wireless interfaces wlan0, wlan1 I want wlan0 to be connected to the internet via a wireless router and I want wlan1 to be in AP mode acting as a router to give internet access to whoever connectes to it. So basically all packets coming through wlan1 should be forwarded to wlan0 = Router = Internet. That's including DNS/DHCP/etc.. [A]~~~~~(Wi-Fi)~~~~~~v [B]~~~~~(Wi-Fi)~~~> [me] ~~~~(Wi-Fi)~~~~~>[AP/Router]------->[internet] [C]~~~~~(Wi-Fi)~~~~~~^ Any idea how can I do this? ps: I tried using bridges but I always get 'operation not supported' using the brctl tool.

  • Connecting to Aerohive APs from Laptops running Win. 7 using authentication from a Windows 2008 domain server

    - by user264116
I have deployed a wireless network using Aerohive access points. 2 of them are set up as radius servers. I want my users to be able to use the same user name and password they use when they log onto our domain. They are able to do this from android devices or computers running Windows 8. It will not work on Windows 7 machines. How do I remedy this situation, keeping in mind that the machines are personal machines not company owned and I will have no way to change their hardware or software.

  • DNS Settings in Cisco Wireless Lan Controllers

    - by Braden
The WLC is a 2100 series and I have looked back and forth through the entire web interface. Originally the idea was that the gateway should be the DNS controler and the WLC pointed directly at the gateway. For some reason, random clients are having DNS specific issues when it comes to seeing certain shares around the network. The problems are also very intermittent. Aside from going to each box and implementing a static DNS is there ACTUALLY a DNS setting lodged into the WLC settings (and I am being a numpty and can't find them) or am I stuck with performing the config 1 by 1?

  • How to sniff for wireless MAC addresses in area - My laptop got stolen

    - by Mr AJL
A few days ago my apartment got broken in, and they took all the electronics, including my $1500 laptop. We are pretty sure it's an inside job (as in someone from the same building), so I believe that the stuff is in someones apartment. Is there any tool that tells you what wireless adapters are active within range? I have my laptops MAC address, so I could use that to find out who stole it. I think it's worth a shot. Any help is appreciated thanks!

  • Simple way to make wired internet wireless without router

    - by Anriëtte Combrink
Hi there Is there any device which you can plug into an Ethernet port and then have it broadcast the internet connection it receives through Ethernet wirelessly with a set password (maybe a serial number on device itself)? The problem is, I have a Wi-fi capable device, an iPhone and I want to use the wired internet connection in a hotel room, but the iPhone needs a Wi-fi signal. How can I accomplish this with a rather simplistic device. // EDIT: Can this be achieved with an Apple Airport Express?

  • Is it possible to detect nearby Wi-Fi enabled devices, not necessarily on the same network? [closed]

    - by Sky
first question on StackExchange ever. I hope I got the right board. I'm trying to create a device (either from a standard AP or some other unconventional means) that will be able to detect nearby Wi-Fi enabled devices. For example, if a cellular phone (iPhone for instance) would be carried into the secured area, its MAC address will be logged. A cellular phone is a good example because it's the most common threat that should be detected. Some important points: The detection can be either active or passive, doesn't matter. The detected device might be connected to a different network, or might not be connected to anything at all. I assume most cellular phones are actively probing when not connected, but I'm not sure. It is important to not only identify the breach, but also to identify the device (MAC address). Conventional hardware is only optional. Distance of detection is at least 6 meters (20 feet). Handling one device at a time is good. Speed of detection is important, under 5 seconds is ideal. So my question is, is this even possible? If so, what can I use in order to make this a reality? Thank you for reading!

  • How do I accept all Networks with the same ssid with wicd?

    - by rubo77
We have a Mesh network here in my town, where every node creates the same client wlan with the SSID "kiel.freifunk.net". In wicd I can connect to those networks, but I have to choose which of them. In network-manager it was more handy: there was shown only one network with that SSID and if I moved through the room with my laptop, it automatically connects to the nearest network with that SSID name (I think that's called "roaming") Is it possible to achieve this with wicd also?

  • Load balancing with 2 wireless cards

    - by user2544786
I'm thinking about building a wireless load balancer (if that makes sense). For example, the first wireless card will accept all connections for ip 192.168.1.1 and the second card will serve requests for 192.168.1.2. I know that I can assign both IPs to a single card and all requests will be served by a single wireless card. Would it be better (more bandwidth, more stable connection, etc?) to have two physical cards instead?

  • restoring a failed SBS 2000 box...

    - by Brad Pears
Hi there, I read a post where you had mentioned you have had a PERC card blow up on you in an SBS box... I've got a similar situation where one of my RAID drives failed and then the power supply failed before I could replace the drive... I then replaced the power supply and the failed drive and reconfigured the RAID array. I had a recent full backup of the my Win2k SBS's C: drive stored on my SYmantec backup exec server so I installed win2K server on the c: partition and then once I had that up and running, installed the backup exec agent so as to do a restore of the entire c drive including system state. THis all worked just fine, until I had to reboot. I received an "incorrect drive configuration" error and then it hangs. I figure that likely makes sense becasue I think my RAID array is configured slightly different now in that the partitions may be sizeded ever so slightly differently now than they were before I think... Is there a way I can just restore from my backup BUT maybe exclude some of the registry and hidden boot files it wants to restore so that it is booting with the current configuration now active on that machine - not the pre blow up configuration files? I also read a post that indicated you might have to install the exact same service pack etc... etc.. before attemting a restore but that does not make sense to me being as the entire c drive contents are going to be overwritten by the restore anyway? THe basic OS install is just to be able to get the backup exec agent installed . I can;t understand why one would need to install the exact same SP level. CAn you shed some light on what I might be able to do to get this thing up and running? Thanks,Brad
