• Import small number of records from a very large CSV file in Biztalk 2006

  I have a Biztalk project that imports an incoming CSV file and dumps it to a database table. The import works fine, but I only need to keep about 200-300 records from a file with upwards of a million rows. My orchestration discards these rows, but the problem is that the flat file I'm importing is still 250MB, and when converted to XML using a regular flat file pipeline, it takes hours to process and sometimes causes the server to run out memory. Is there something I can do to have the Custom Pipeline itself discard rows I don't care about? The very first item in each CSV row is one of a few strings, and I only want to keep rows that start with a certain string. Thanks for any help you're able to provide.

• Modifying an image with OpenGL ?

  I have a device to acquire XRay images. Due to some technical constrains, the detector is made of heterogeneous pixel size and multiple tilted and partially overlapping tiles. The image is thus distorted. The detector geometry is known precisely. I need a function converting these distorted images into a flat image with homogeneous pixel size. I have already done this by CPU, but I would like to give a try with OpenGL to use the GPU in a portable way. I have no experience with OpenGL programming, and most of the information I could find on the web was useless for this use. How should I proceed ? How do I do this ? Image size are 560x860 pixels and we have batches of 720 images to process. I'm on Ubuntu.

• Qt/C++ event loop exception handling

  I am having an application heavily based on QT and on a lot of third party libs. THese happen to throw some exceptions in several cases. In a native Qt App this causes the application to abort or terminate. Often the main data model is still intact as I am keeping it in pure Qt with no external data. So I am thinking that I could also just recover by telling the user that there has occured an error in this an that process and he should save now or even decide to continue working on the main model. Currently the program jsut silently exits without even telling a story. Please help.

• Force Response to Download File(s) to Desktop with Ruby?

  I was thinking about making a little crop/resize batch processor online, and wanted to know if there was a way for me to do the following: upload image and specify dimensions click "process" and remote app resizes image image downloads automatically locally to wherever it was I uploaded it (say from my desktop), but with a new name (based on the time for example). This would make it so I could host a free image processor that never stored any data other than tempfiles. Is that possible? Something like Rails' send_file method, but I'm using Sinatra and am looking for something in pure ruby. What's the basic concept behind this? What if I wanted to do this for multiple files? Åssuming I can get multiple files uploaded no problem, how can I download all of them automatically?

• How to deal with large result sets with Linq to Entities?

  I have a fairly complex linq to entities query that I display on a website. It uses paging so I never pull down more than 50 records at a time for display. But I also want to give the user the option to export the full results to Excel or some other file format. My concern is that there could potentially be a large # of records all being loaded into memory at one time to do this. Is there a way to process a linq result set 1 record at a time like you could w/ a datareader so only 1 record is really being kept in memory at a time? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks

• What happens if a message is rolled back in MQ?

  Hi, I receive a message from a WebSPhere MQ queue. I try to process and if i receive some exceptions i want to rollback the message to the MQ Queue. I have no problems in doing the same. What happens to the message? Does it go to the bottom of the queue? If i try and pull a message from the queue would i receive the same message that i rolledback? What is the behaviour likely to be? I want to know this behaviour typically in a high volume Queue scenario? Appreciate any inputs. Thanks, Manglu

• How do I disable maven build when using Maven 2.0 integration for eclipse?

  How do I stop the "Maven 2.0 integration" plugin from running maven build, while keeping "build automatically" checked? I'm pretty sure it used to be some check box to disable maven build before, but after upgrading Ubuntu; eclipse seems to have been updated in the process, and now I cannot find any way to turn off the maven build. The maven build takes literally minutes (about 5 minutes or so), while just running java build used to finish in seconds. Is it no longer possible to disable it or have they just hidden it well? If it's not possible, will eclipse be able to compile my maven project without the plugin? (Trying to google for a solution the closes I got to an answer was several archives of this old post where the answer essentially were "You should be able to disable Maven builder in project preferences..." which doesn't really help because I cannot find any on/off settings there)

  What's the best way to automate this function? I want to be able to do this in Outlook 2010, (1)select a specific mail account (2)Key in a folder that I am looking for (3)Then have the macro/program fire off an "*" asterisk (4)Then insert the text that I keyed in step one. I am trying to automate the search for a folder hot-keys that already exist. My problem is that I can't type the folder that I am looking for fast enough and all the search programs that I have used are far too slow. The hot-key search is awesome and super fast, I just can't type the folder that I am looking for fast enough. Can this process be automated?   Iam a newbie to java and was wondering why java have a interpreter and not a compiler? While shifting from c++ to java we come across the differences between these two Compilation process being one of them. 1.A major difference between a compiler and interpreter is that compiler compiles the whole code at once and displays all the errors at a time whereas an interpreter interprets line by line. 2.Also a compiler takes a less time to compile a code when compared to an interpreter. When java was developed for more advanced and easy features and implementations why has it been restricted to a interpreter based on above facts? Is there any special reason why this is so? If yes what is it?

• postgresql duplicate table names best practice

  My company has a handful of apps that we deploy in the websites we build. Recently a very old app needed to be included along side a newer app and there was a conflict w/ a duplicate table name needed to be used by both apps. We are now in the process of updating an old app and there will be some DB updates. I'm curious what people consider best practice (or how do you do it) to help ensure these name collisions don't happen. I've looked at schema's but not sure if thats the right path we want to take. As the documentation prescribes, I don't want to "wire" a particular schema name into an application and if I add schema's to the user search path how would it know which table I was referring to if two schema's have the same table name. although, maybe I'm reading to much into this. Any insights or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

• TFS: How do I view .cs files in the VS IDE when viewing details of a shelveset?

  For our code review process we open the details of a shelveset to see all files that have been worked on. Right clicking and choosing "Compare" works great for existing ( modified ) files. But, when a file has been added I just want to view the file. Double clicking ( or right click - view ) opens .cs ( and .sql )files in notepad. When I try to open a .PRC file ( extension for our stored procedures ) I get a prompt that allows me to choose what program to use for viewing. Does anyone know how to get this prompt to show up for .cs files ( and all other files, for that matter ) Thanks!   OKay I am at loss how to name this question. I have some HTML files, probably written by lord Lucifier himself, that I need to parse. It consists of many segments like this, among other html tags <p>HeadingNumber</p> <p style="text-indent:number;margin-top:neg_num ">Heading Text</p> <p>Body</p> Notice that the heading number and text are in seperate p tags, aligned in a horizontal line by css. the css may be whatever Lucifier fancies, a mixture of indents, paddings, margins and positions. However that line is a single object in my business model and should be kept as such. So How do I detect whether two p elements are visually in a single line and process them accordingly. I believe the HTML files are well formed if it helps.

• Fastest way to move records from a oracle DB into MS sql server after processing

  Hi.. Ok this is the scenario...I have a table in Oracle that acts like a queue... A VB.net program reads the queue and calls a stored proc in MS SQL Server that processes and then inserts the message into another SQL server table and then deletes the record from the oracle table. We use a datareader to read the records from Oracle and then call the stored proc for each of the records. The program seems to be a little slow. The stored procedure itself isnt slow. The SP by itself when called in a loop can process about 2000 records in 20 seconds. BUt when called from the .Net program, the execution time is about 5 records per second. I have seen that most of the time consumed is in calling the stored procedure and waiting for it to return. Is there a better way of doing this? • Stop sign icon in VS2005 Express solution explorer

  What does a small stop sign icon on a file in solution explorer mean? Someone asked the same question a year ago Original Question but the answer provided is of no help. The icon looks like this: Suffice to say that the sign is not one presented in the VS documentation and is a UK Stop sign (red circle with a white horizontal bar) not a US one. The project is WebKit and the build process cannot find AuthenticationCF.h even though the file is present. I presume the sign might shed some light on this. Thanks, Andy

  Suppose I have following code in linux: int main() { FILE* f = fopen("file.txt", "w"); fork(); fwrite("A", 1, 1, f); fclose(f); return 0; } What I know about fork from documentation, is that it makes the copy of current process. It copies state of the memory as well, so *f should be equal in both instances. But what happens with system resources, such as a file handle? In this example I open the file with write intentions, so only one instance can write into file, right? Which of the instances will actually write into file? Who should care further about the file handle, and call fclose() ?

Now i have another binary which tries to find out about extents for all the files. Now currently i am using linear search to find extent info for the files in the above mentioned text file. This is a time consuming process. Is there a better way of coding this ? Like Implementing any good data structure like BTree. If B+ Tree is used what is the key, branch factor i need to use ?

• Handling Messages in Console Apps/DLLs in C++ Win32

  I would like to have the ability to process Win32 messages in a console app and/or inside a standalone DLL. I have been able to do it in .NET with the following article and it works great in C# inside a console app and standalone DLL http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc163417.aspx Is there a way to do the equivalent with C/C++ Win32 APIs? I have tried doing RegisterClassEx(...) and CreateWindow(...) even passing in HWND_MESSAGE to hWndParent but the trouble is that after the "invisible" window is created messages are not being processed probably due to the lack of a message pump. Where would the message pump go if you had a DLL entry point? I have tried creating another thread in a DLL and put while(GetMesage(..)) there but that did not work either. Any ideas?

• Add widgets to custom WordPress sidebars on theme activation?

  I'm working on a WordPress 3.0 multi-site installation. Each new blog will use the same theme with slight modifications (a custom Thesis install, if it matters). I'm trying to automate the set-up process for each new blog as much as possible. To that end, I'd like to automatically add widgets to my custom sidebars and widget-enabled footers. It'd be even better if the widgets could have pre-set parameters/content, that I or the blog owner could then go into the Widgets panel and edit. I've searched high and low and haven't been able to figure out a way to make this work. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks so much!

• How to have partial incremental synchronizations based on a GUID?

  I need to synchronize an SQL Server database to Oracle through an Oracle Transparent Gateway. The synchronization is performed in batches, so I need to get the next set of data from the point where I left off. The problem I'm having is that the only field I have in the source, to help me, is a GUID. If it were a number I could just order by it, keep the last one processed and restart the process by getting the records which are my recorded number. This won't work with a GUID. Any ideas?

  Hi StackOverflow, I have a Java application that makes heavy use of a large file, to read, process and give through to SolrEmbeddedServer (http://lucene.apache.org/solr/). One of the functions does basic HTML escaping: private String htmlEscape(String input) { return input.replace("&", "&amp;").replace(">", "&gt;").replace("<", "&lt;") .replace("'", "&apos;").replaceAll("\"", "&quot;"); } While profiling the application, the program spends roughly 58% of the time in this function, a total of 47% in replace, and 11% in replaceAll. Now, is the Java replace that slow, or am I on the right path and should I consider the program efficient enough to have its bottleneck in Java and not in my code? (Or am I replacing wrong?)   I am developing SL3 + RIA services with custom authentication. I followed the example in http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/RiaServices/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=2661 to implement custom authentication. Based on the implementation, you first do login request from client to service. This request is async process. Since login is async, the control will go back to GUI which then starts to do data bind in SL controls using RIA services, the services happens to requires the authentication to be successful (by adding [RequireAuthentication] attribute). The trouble is, since you requested login might not have completed before the data binding starts t this stage the authentication is false because of that data binding will fail. I would like to know if you require your web services to have 'RequireAuthentication' how would you wait for authentication to complete at the server side or client side. Appriciate the help.
