• XSLT 1.0: Sorting by concating portions of date string

  I'm trying to take XML data and sort elements by their data attribute. Unfortunately the dates come over in mm/dd/yyyy format and are not static lengths. (Jan = 1 instead of 01) So I believe the string will have to be parsed into three components and the month padded. The newly concated value (yyyymmdd) then sorted descending. Problem is I have no idea how to do this. • Column.DbType affecting runtime behavior

  Hi According to the MSDN docs, the DbType property/attribute of a Column type/element is only used for database creation. Yet, today, when trying to submit data to an IMAGE column on a SQLCE database (not sure if only on CE), I got an exception of 'Data truncated to 8000 bytes'. This was due to the DbType still being defined as VARBINARY(MAX) which SQLCE does not support. Changing the type to IMAGE in the DbType fixes the issue. So what other surprises does Linq2SQL attributes hold in store? Is this a bug or intended? Should I report it to MS? UPDATE After getting the answer from Guffa, I tested it, but it seems for NVARCHAR(10) adding a 11 char length string causes a SQL exception, and not Linq2SQL one. The data was truncated while converting from one data type to another.   Assume that I have a class value object defined in php, where each variable in the class is defined. Something like: class UserVO { public $id; public $name; } I now have a function in another class, which is expecting an array ($data). function save_user($data) { //run code to save the user } How do I tell php that the $data parameter should be typed as a UserVO? I could then have code completion to do something like: $something = $data->id; //typed as UserVO.id $else = $data->name; //typed as UserVO.name I'm guessing something like the following, but this obviously doesnt work $my_var = $data as new userVO();

• Returning the html from .ajax call

  I'm getting undefined for some reason when I try to return the html via the callback function: function getDataFromUrl(urlWithContent) { // jQuery async request $.ajax( { url: urlWithContent, dataType: "html", success: function(data) { return $('.result').html(data); }, error: function(e) { alert('Error: ' + e); } }); } I know I'm getting data back, I see it in firebug in the response and also when I alert out the data, I see the entire page content come up in the alert box. When I call my function, I am doing the following: var divContent = getDataFromUrl(dialogDiv.attr("href")); if(divContent) dialogDiv.innerHTML = divContent; when I alert out the divContent (before the if statement) I'm getting undefined. Maybe I'm just going about this wrong on how I'm returning back the data? I also tried just return data; same thing, I get undefined after the call to this method when set to my variable.

However if I don't change any of the data then the data is not updated. i.e. only entries which are changed go through the for loop to be saved. I guess this makes sense as there is no point saving data if it has not changed. However I need to go through and save every object in the form regardless of whether it has any changes on not. So my question is how do I override this so that it goes through and saves every record whether it has any changes or not? Hope this makes sense Thanks

But in order to query for those unique details I need to pass the id of the village. I know that using the "w" identifier in fopen() will open a new file that's empty, but I want to be able to 'append' data to the file each time it goes through the 'writedata()' function, hence the use of the "a" identifier.

  I have 3 types of users in my system. each type has different information I created the following tables: BaseUser(base_user_id, username, password, additional common data) base_user_id is PK and Identity UserType1(user_id, data related to type1 only) user_id is PK and FK to base_user_id UserType2(user_id, data related to type2 only) user_id is PK and FK to base_user_id UserType3(user_id, data related to type3 only) user_id is PK and FK to base_user_id Now I have relation from each type of user to warehouses table. Users from type1 and type2 should have only warehouse_id and users from type3 should have warehouse_id and customer_id. I thought about this structure: WarehouseOfUser(base_user_id,warehouse_id) base_user_id is FK to base_user_id in BaseUser WarehouseOfTyp3User(base_user_id,warehouse_id, customer_id) base_user_id is FK to base_user_id in BaseUser The problem is that such structure allows 2 things I want to prevent: 1. add to WarehouseOfTyp3User data of user from type2 or type1. 2. add to WarehouseOfUser data of user from type3. what is the best structure for such case?

• Losing scope for DataContex using LINQToSQL intermediately

  I am having a weird Situation with my DataConext. All My code is in C# I have a DLL project for my data access layer and business Layer which and Winforms project for my UI layer. My Data access Layer's Namespace is xxx.Data this is where have my xxx.dbml I also have xxx.Data.BusinessObjects name space of course for my business object in that project In my UI Layer I have these namespaces xxxApp(for Forms), xxxApp.Controls (For Controls) I have lost scope of the DataContext, it was accessible now when I do a Rebuild Solution I sometimes get compile errors saying for example: Error 34 'xxx.Data.xxxDataContext' does not contain a definition for 'SubmitChanges' and no extension method 'SubmitChanges' accepting a first argument of type 'xxx.Data.xxxDataContext' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) Also intelisense doesn't recognize the methods and table classes from my xxxDataContext anymore I can access all object fine when I am in the DLL project but now in the Winforms project this is very strange. If anyone can help me out I would be extremely grateful!

  Now if that isn't a weird question, I don't know what is. But here is the problem: I have a function in my "onSelect" option that has to collect some data (through AJAX) and I have a function in my "onComplete" option that processes the just uploaded files based on the data "onSelect" collected. However, with very small files, the "onSelect" hasn't finished yet before the upload is complete and the "onComplete" fails because it lacks the necessary data. Bigger files work just fine. So, I'm looking for a way to stall the upload of the file. To let it start only after the function in onSelect completed fetching the necessary data. Any ideas? • Return an object after parsing xml with SAX

  I have some large XML files to parse and have created an object class to contain my relevant data. Unfortunately, I am unsure how to return the object for later processing. Right now I pickle my data and moments later depickle the object for access.   hi, I am using a dropdown, a devexpress grid view and a button on my page. My gropdown contains the months in the format MM/YYYY, and on dropdown's selection change the data binds in the grid view. the functionality of button is to go on previous page as same as back button of browser. Now, my prob is that if i select any month and then select another month, the data changes. but now when i click on back button having onclick ="history.go(-1)", changes the data on the grid view but the month in the dropdown remains the same. For example: Suppose, first i have month selected as 02/2010 At this time the data in grid view is for exapmle 01234 now when i select month 03/2010 the data in grid changes to 56789 now when i click on back button, then data in grid changes to 01234 but the month in dropdown remains to 03/2010. How to do such thing? BTW: I use Flash Builder for mxml+actionscript coding. So if it is easy for you you can give example using MXML (not todraw on some sprite but on some MXML component).

• I don't get this C/C++ Joke

  After reading this article on thedailywtf.com, I'm not sure that I really got the joke. It says there that some guy changed the code from int function() { int x; char data_string[15]; ... x = 2; strcpy(data_string,"data data data"); ... } to int function() { int x = 2; char data_string[15] = "data data data"; ... } everywhere in the code and that for some reason did inflate the size of the executable from 1 to 2 CDs (or maybe it didn't do that?). Obviously I'm not familiar enough with C/C++ to get this joke, but what seems strangest is that the 2nd code listing seems "cleaner"—at least from what I've been told in school (that is that initializing variables is a good thing, not a bad one).

• DataGridView live display of datatable using virtual mode

  I have a DataGridView that will display records (log entries) from a database. The amount of records that can exist at a time is very large. I would like to use the virtual mode feature of the DataGridView to display a page of data, and to minimize the amount of data that has to be transferred across a network at a given time. Polling for data is out of the question. There will be several clients running at a time, all of which are on the same network and viewing the records. If they all poll for data, the network will run very slowly. The data is read-only to the user; they won't be able to edit any of it, just view it. I need to know when updates occur in the database, and I need to update the screen with those updates accordingly using virtual mode. If a page of data a user is viewing contains data that has change, he/she will see those updates on that page. If updates were made to data in the database, but not in the data the user is viewing, then not much really changes on the user screen (Maybe just the scroll bar if records were added or removed). My current approach is using SQL server change tracking with the sync framework. Each client has a local SQL Server CE instance and database file that is kept in sync with the main database server. I use the information from the synchronization event to see if any changes were made to the main database and were sync'ed to the client. I need to use the DataGridView virtual mode here because I can't have thousands of records loaded into the DataGridView at once, otherwise memory usage goes through the roof. The main challenge right now is knowing how to use virtual mode to provide a seamless experience to the user by allowing them to scroll up and down through the records, and also have records update on the fly without interfering with the user inappropriately. Has anybody dealt with this issue before, and if so, where I can see how they did it? I've gone through some of the MSDN documentation and examples on virtual mode. So far, I haven't found documentation and/or examples on their site that explains how to do what I am trying to accomplish.

• How can I prevent page-break in CFDocument from occuring in middle of content?

  I am generating a PDF file dynamically from html/css using the cfdocument tag. There are blocks of content that I don't want to span multiple pages. After some searching I found that the style "page-break-inside" is supported according to the docs. However in my testing the declaration "page-break-inside: avoid" does no good. Any suggestions on getting this style declaration to work, or have alternative suggestions? Here is an example. I would expect the content in the div tag not to span a page break but it does. • Circular Reference for Parent Link on Work Item cannot be resolved by Retry

  I receive the following error; OH-TFS-Connector-0051: Operation failed getCollectionMetaData. Server Error : TF201063: Adding a Parent link to work item 1737 would result in a circular relationship. To create this link, evaluate the existing links, and remove one of the other links in the cycle. I have completely flattened out the Work Items in the source project. When retrying the migration the timestamp is modified on the pending errors however the issues are not resolved. These Work Items now have no parents or children in the source project. So I'm wondering if the retry list is no longer valid but there doesn't appear to be a away to have it update? I can run the whole migration again, however it takes 5-7 hours to just do the work items so it would be great if there is a quick fix.

• Statically initialize anonymous union in C++
