Latest alestic ec2 Ubuntu instance seems broken

I am using alestic.com ec2 Ubuntu instances now for some time and never had a problem with. Today I created a new Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise EBS boot on US-east-1, seems to be a bad build. While doing a sudo apt-get update it breaks and says: W: Failed to fetch bzip2:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/us-east-1.ec2.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_precise-updates_main_source_Sources Hash Sum mismatch This is on a fresh instance. So I recon something went wrong when creating it. What can be done to fix it?

How to prevent a 404 Error when creating a subdomain and using www to access it?

I have installed a multi-site installation of WordPress onto my domain. I then added the necessary code to the wp-config.php file and .htaccess as instructed by WordPress. I also installed a plugin called Quick Page/Post Redirect Plugin which allowed me to place a 301 redirect onto the main domain as I only want to use the sub domain and not the main domain. Then I also added the following line of code to the wp-config.php file to redirect the main domain define( 'NOBLOGREDIRECT', 'URL Redirect Address' ); The site works fine with a redirect on the main domain and my subdomain runs fine when you type in subdomain.example.com or http://subdomain.example.com. However when I enter www.subdomain.example.com or http://www.subdomain.example.com the following error message is returned: Not Found The requested URL / was not found on this server. Apache/2.4.9 (Unix) Server at www.subdomain.domain.com Port 80 Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Minecraft: Slow performance OUT of the game

I downloaded Minecraft yesterday to see what the fuss is about, brilliant game! When playing in Windowed mode, if I try and do anything else, i.e. use the computer, when the game is paused, the computer is incredibly slow, it takes a minute just to type a short message into empathy. Also, once I quit the game, the computer remains slow for about 5 minutes, until it magically frees up and becomes fast again. Could this be related to the 512mb RAM limitation of Java, and the machine is swapping? Even trying to submit this post is incredibly slow and frustrating, it's taking me a minute just to click in the 'Tag's box. Any ideas? Ubuntu 10.10 x64 Intel Q9550 4GB RAM nVidia 8800GTS 320mb (w/prop drivers installed)

What are my options for Web 2.0 gallery software?

Good day everyone! This is my first post on this site ^_^ My question is: What are my options if I need a Web 2.0 gallery software that work in a very similar manner to this removed web site. Essentially: users can create account, then create and manage their own galleries. And all other users and guests can see these galleries, add tags, comments, etc. Basically a community driven gallery web site. When it comes to "normal" cms I know a lot of good options, but I never worked with any gallery management software... If you can suggest me some good solutions (free) it would be great! Also: If you by any chance know what software is used at this removed website it would be even better, because this solution suits me the best and I would have used this engine, but I cant find any information on what this engine is and if it is even public, or privately developed thing. Managing multiple people working on a project with GIT

I'm very new to GIT/GitHub (as new as starting yesterday). I would like to know what is the best way to manage multiple people working on the same project with Github. Currently I'm managing one project with four developers. How do I go about the workflow and making sure everything is in sync? (Note: All developers will have one universal account.) Does each developer need to be on a different branch? Will I be able to handle 2 people working on the same file? Please post a detailed answer, I'm not a shy reader. I need to understand this well.

How would I go about implementing a globe-like "ballish" map?

I am new to 3D development and I have this idea of having the game world like our globe is - a ball. So, there would be no corners in the map and the game is top-down RTS game. I would like the camera to go on and on and never stop even though you are moving the camera to the same direction all the time. I am not sure if this is even possible, but I would really like to build a globe-like map without borders. Can this be done, and how exactly? I am using XNA, C#, and DirectX. Any tutorials or links or help is greatly appreciated!

Access Control Service: Handling Errors

Another common problem with external authentication is how to deal with sign in errors. In active federation like WS-Trust there are well defined SOAP faults to communicate problem to a client. But with web applications, the error information is typically generated and displayed on the external sign in page. The relying party does not know about the error, nor can it help the user in any way. The Access Control Service allows to post sign in errors to a specified page. You setup this page in the relying party registration. That means that whenever an error occurs in ACS, the error information gets packaged up as a JSON string and posted to the page specified. This way you get structued error information back into you application so you can display a friendlier error message or log the error. I added error page support to my ACS2 sample, which can be downloaded here. Do I need the 'w' component in my Vector class?

Assume you're writing matrix code that handles rotation, translation etc for 3d space. Now the transformation matrices have to be 4x4 to fit the translation component in. However, you don't actually need to store a w component in the vector do you? Even in perspective division, you can simply compute and store w outside of the vector, and perspective divide before returning from the method. For example: // post multiply vec2=matrix*vector Vector operator*( const Matrix & a, const Vector& v ) { Vector r ; // do matrix mult r.x = a._11*v.x + a._12*v.y ... real w = a._41*v.x + a._42*v.y ... // perspective divide r /= w ; return r ; } Is there a point in storing w in the Vector class?

USB Storage Device Automount

Under Ubuntu 10.04 one of the problems which appeared is that USB devices would no longer automatically mount when plugged in. Normally I would get a pop up message asking what application I wanted to open the newly plugged in device with, however now that doesn't happen. This happens regardless of the way the device is formatted (NTFS or FAT32) and all other USB devices (printer, keyboard and mouse) work perfectly. My current solution is the mount them manually using sudo mount dev/... /medai/... however to be honest I'm just getting tired of having to do this. I'm happy to post any extra information you are likely to need. I know there will be lots of places I could look to find out what's going wrong but I have no idea where to start really.

I am trying to split my code in different layers: GUI, reading the GUI, creating input, calculating the model, interpreting data, creating view, sending the view to the GUI. I got the idea of the MVC and would like to try to build my program that way. But I'm a little confused about how to exchange information between those modules. I'm running into problems with undefined global names and so forth. I didn't realize I was so popular!Well, I've obviously since abandonded this blog and don't really want to maintain a blog in 2 locations now that I am getting back into it. (At least, not at this time - if I can figure out how to cross-post things may change...) Mouse wheel on Dell Vostro V13

I have a Dell Vostro V13, which Canonical claim is "Certified" for Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/make/Dell/laptops). So it surprises me that the synaptics trackpad isn't recognised as such and defaults to psmouse emulation. This means no multitouch, no gestures, and more importantly, no mousewheel scrolling. Because it's not loading the synaptic driver, running gpointing-device-settings doesn't help. I've found this bug : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/380126 which suggests a fix has been committed, but I can't see a way of getting this loaded on my Maverick build. I've tried backports and proposed repos in synaptic, but no joy. Any ideas?

Vmware 3D Acceleration Ubuntu 14.04

I have installed Vmware Player 6.0.3 build-1895310. The problem I have is that when I run a Windows 7 Vm, it says that 3D support was disabled. (I can't read the exact report atm because it has a chance of crashing my machine.) I have the 3D support box enabled. Here is my graphics card: Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset x86/MMX/SSE2. Can anyone tell me to install drivers or something? I can't find mine anywhere!

I have to build a new website for my client.. and he needs this stuff: A user generated content website.. where users can upload their own videos.. (i will use a video hosting platform with api like fliqz.com) I must manage a big user system.. where users can create their own "sub-users"... the site must manage paid subscriptions and payments through paypal.. and other payment gateways... So the question is.. i have to use a pre-built CMS and extend it.. or just a good framework? I've been thinking about joomla, drupal and expressionengine... It's not neccesary to use a open source cms... I've looking at drupal.. but is not as easy to understand and extend... Can anyone help me to make a good decision?

Fairly recently I started maintaining my own open source JavaScript library. I created it to solve a pretty specific need but fairly regularly see questions that can be solved (in whole/part) by using my library. I've always gone ahead to post my answer including my library and make sure to always include a disclosure specifying that I maintain it. I feel for open source projects this may not be such a big deal but where do you draw the line? (ex: commercial products) Is it ethical for a programmer to promote is own library? When is it not?
