If it stays on the CPU, what can be done to make it get off and be notified later?

• Rotation towards an object in 3d space

  hello, i have two coordinates on a 2d plane in 3d space, and am trying to rotate one coordinate (a vector) to face the other coordinate. my vertical axis is the y-axis, so if both of the coordinates are located flat on the 2d plane, they would both have a y-axis of 0, and their x and z coordinates determine their position length/width-wise on the plane. right now, i'm calculating the angle like so (language agnostic): angle = atan2(z2-z1,x2-x1); and am rotating/translating in space like so: pushMatrix(); rotateY(angle); popMatrix(); this doesn't seem to be working though. are my calculations/process correct?

• jQuery fadeIn IE Png Issue when loading from external

  I am loading data from external html files within my domain into a div on my webpage using a load content method in jQuery. I take the div out of the new page whilst hiding the div in the current page by fading this out and fading the new one in. There is a png image in both of these divs and it is creating horrid black blobs in IE, works fine in other browsers but due to IEs inability to process multiple filters its making a mess. I tried using the unit png fix to no avail, does anyone have any fixes or ideas to help keep my pngs looking nice during this transition? i46.tinypic.com/t9dtvr.jpg this is a screenshot of the problem, cheers also discovered that the png that is on the page originaly (before loading anything new) fades in and out perfectly using the unit png fix but stuff loading in and then back out from external files doesnt. Ive added the fix to those pages too but that doesnt work either.

• Source control on internet i.e. no private networks.

  Me and my friend are in the process of starting a small project and want to implement a source control. Now both are located in different cities and can communicate using internet for file sharing etc. I need an online hosting solution or any way where i can maintain the source code repository for both of us to check in/out. As of now we want to maintain it as private project. Does sourceforge allow hosting projects which would not be opensource? One option i was thinking, to obtain a static IP form ISP and host the repository.But that mean my system needs to be online when my friend wants to checkin/out or do some diff with old version code. Secondly, would SVN or git be a better choice in such a situation. I have no experience in git/mercurial as of now.

• How do I use the Silicon Laboratories IDE with SDCC?

  I'm thinking about using a microcontroller with an 8051 core from Silicon Laboratories. I hope that I can use C rather than assembly language, so I installed SDCC. I installed the "Silicon Laboratories IDE" to download the executable binaries to the on-chip Flash program memory. It also supposedly can be set up (under the Project Tool Chain Integration menu) to use "any" 8051 compiler. I tried to set it up to use SDCC, but every time I hit the "Assemble/Compile File" button it tells me "Compiler process did not sucessfully complete." How do I get new C code I write onto the SiLabs C8051F310 chip? Is there a web site with a step-by-step HOWTO? (Would it be easier to use a MAKEFILE that calls SDCC, only using the "Silicon Laboratories IDE" for the very last step of downloading the executable binary to the chip?)

• Linking to libcrypto for Leopard?

  Hi I am using Mac OS X 10.6 SDK and my deployment target is set to Mac OS 10.5. I'm linking to libcrypto (AquaticPrime requires this) and found out that my app doesn't launch on Leopard. The error is dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/lib/libcrypto.0.9.8.dylib I've tried the following workarounds but none of them work: Linking directly to libcrypto.0.9.7.dylib (the 10.6 SDK refuses to link directly with libcrypto.0.9.7.dylib. Copying the 10.5 SDK's version of libcrypto.0.9.7.dylib to the 10.6 lib directory and try t link with it (this time the link process succeeded but in Leopard the app still tries to lookup the non-existent libcrypto.0.9.8.dylib file and thus won't launch). Copying libcrypto.0.9.7.dylib from a Mac OS X 10.5.8 installation and link with it (the link was successful but the app still looks for libcrypto.0.9.8.dylib). Is there a way to link to this library and still use the 10.6 SDK? Thanks.

Check if the user is allowed to access the repository. If above is true, get the location of X from a mysql server. Run a hgweb cgi script (python) containing the path of the repository. Here is the problem, I want to: take the hgweb script, modify it, and run it. But I do not want to: take the hgweb script, modify it, write it to a file and redirect there. I am using Apache to run the httpd process.

  I was going to crawl a site for some research I was collecting. But, apparently the terms of service is quite clear on the topic. Is it illegal to now "follow" the terms of service. And what can the site normally do? Here is an example clause in the TOS. Also, what about sites that don't provide this particular clause. Restrictions: "use any robot, spider, site search application, or other automated device, process or means to access, retrieve, scrape, or index the site" It is just research? Edit: "OK, from the standpoint of designing an efficient crawler. Should I provide some form of natural language engine to read terms of service and then abide by them."

• WCF Windows service permissions problem

  I have created a WCF service and hosted it using Windows Services host. To install the project I created an installation project (as described here). In the tutorial, it says to define in the ProjectInstaller.cs the serviceProcessInstaller1 Account property to be Network Service. When using this setting the service did not started on the server. When I tried to start the process manually, it immediately return to stopped state. After when I changed the Account to LocalSystem the service works properly. My questions are: Any ideas why it won't work with Network Service account? What are the security implications of using a server with LocalSystem account? This server is used locally in the intranet as a reporting server for other servers.

• How can Perl interact with an ajax form

  I'm writing a perl program that was doing a simple get command to retrieve results and process them. But the site has been updated and now has a java component that handles the results (so the actual data is not in the source code anymore). This is the site: http://wro.westchesterclerk.com/legalsearch.aspx Try putting in: Index Number: 11103 Year: 2009 I want to be able to pro grammatically enter the "index number" and "year" at the bottom of the form where it says "search by number" and then retrieve the results listed next to it. I've written many programs in Perl that simply pass variables via the URL and the results are listed in the source code, so it's easy to parse. (Using LWP:Simple) Like: $html = get("http://www.url.com?id=$somenum&year=$someyear") But this is totally new to me and I don't know where to begin. I'm somewhat familiar with LWP:UserAgent and Mechanize. I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks!

• Hard to append a table with many records into another without generating duplicates

  I may seem to be a bit wordy at first but for the hope it will be easier for all of you to understand what I am doing in the first place. I have an uncommon but enjoyable activity of collecting as many species of wood from around the world as I can (over 2,900 so far). Ok, that is the real world. Meanwhile I have spent over 8 years compiling over 5.8 meg of text data on all the woods of the world. That got so large that learning some basic PHP and MySQL was most welcome so I could build a new database driven home for all this research. I am still slow at it but getting there. The original premise was to find evidence of as many species of woods in the world I can. The more names identified, the more successful the project. I have named the project TAXA for ease of conversation (short for Taxonomy). You are most welcome to take a look at what I have so far at www.prowebcanada.com/taxa. It is 95% dynamically driven. So far I am reporting about 6,500 botanical wood names and, as said above, the more I can report, the more successful is the project. I have a file of all the woods in the second largest wood collection in the world, the Tervuren wood collection in the Netherlands with over 11,300 wood names even after cleaning out all duplicates. That is almost twice the number I am reporting now so porting all the new wood names from Tervuren to the 'species' table where I keep the reported data would be a major desirable advancement in the project. At one point I was able to add all the Tervuren records to the species table but over 3,000 duplicates also formed. They were not in the Tervuren file in the first place but represent the same wood names common to both files. It is common sense that there would be woods common to both that when merged would create new duplicates. At one point and with the help of others from another forum, I may very well have finally got the proper SQL statement. When I ran it, though, the system said (semi-amusingly at first) ----- that it had gone away! After looking up on the Net what could have have done this, one reason is that the MySQL timeout lapses and probably because of the large size of files I am running. I am running this on a rented account on Godaddy so I cannot go about trying to adjust any config file. For safety, I copied the tervuren.sql file as tervuren_target.sql and the species.sql file as species_master.sql tp use as working files just to make sure I protect the original files from destruction or damage. Later I can name the species_master back to just species.sql once I am happy all worked well. The species file has about 18 columns in it but only 5 columns match the columns in the Tervuren file (name for name and collation also). The rest of the columns are just along for the ride, so to speak. The common key in both is the 'species_name" columns in both. I am not sure it is at all proper to call one a primary key and the other a foreign key since there really is no relational connection to them. One is just more data for the other and can disappear after, never to be referred to the working code in the application. I have been very surprised and flabbergasted on how hard it can be to append records from one large table into another (with same column names plus others) without generating NEW duplicates in the first place. Watch out thinking that a SELECT DISTINCT statement may do the job because absolutely NO records in the species table must get destroyed in the process and there is no way (well, that I know of) to tell the 'DISTINCT" command this. Yes, the original 'species' table has duplicates in it even before all this but, trust me ---- they have to be removed the long hard way manually record by record or I will lose precious information. It is more important to just make sure no NEW duplicates form through bringing in new names in the tervuren_target.species_name into species.species_name. I am hoping and thinking that a straight SQL solution should work --- except for that nasty timeout. How do I get past that? Could it mean that I may have to turn to a PHP plus SQL method?? Or ..... would I have to break up the Tervuren files into a few smaller ones and run them independently (hope not....)" So far, what seems should be easy has proven to be unexpectedly tricky. I appreciate any help you can give but start from the assumption that this may be harder to do right than it may seem on the surface. By the way --- I am running a quad 64 bit system with Windows 7, so at least I have some fairly hefty power on the client end. I have a direct ethernet cable feeding a cable connection to the Internet. Once I get an algorithm and code working for this, I also have many other lists to process that could make the 'species' table grow even more. It could be equivalent to (ahem) lighting a rocket under my project (especially compared to do this record by record manually)! This is my first time in this forum, so I do not know how I can receive any replies. Do I have to to come back here periodically or are replies emailed out also? • How can I compile a Perl script inside a running Perl session?

  I have a Perl script that takes user input and creates another script that will be run at a later date. I'm currently going through and writing tests for these scripts and one of the tests that I would like to perform is checking if the generated script compiles successfully (e.g. perl -c <script>.) Is there a way that I can have Perl perform a compile on the generated script without having to spawn another Perl process? I've tried searching for answers, but searches just turn up information about compiling Perl scripts into executable programs.

• how do i claim a low-numbered port as non-root the "right way"

  I have a script that I want to run as a daemon listening on a low-numbered port (< 1024) Script is in python, though answers in perl are also acceptable. The script is being daemonized using start-stop-daemon in a startup script, which may complicate the answer What I really (think) don't want is to type ps -few and see this process running with a "root" on it's line. How do I do it? ( from my less-than-fully-educated-about-system-calls perspective, I can see 3 avenues, Run the script as root (no --user/--group/--chuid to start-stop-daemon), and have it de-escalate it's user after it claims the port Setuid root on the script (chmod u+s), and run the script as the running user, (via --user/--group/--chuid to start-stop-daemon, the startup script still has to be called as root), in the script, acquire root privileges, claim the port, and then revert back to normal user something else i'm unaware of )

  While building an ecommerce platform I have run into design problems. I'm working with the built-in CodeIgniter's cart class. It stores all the cart information in session. Let say that cart has already been filled with products and user clicks checkout. When should I store order in database? Just after that click or after several steps of gathering information and stoing it in session? How to deal with additional features like different shipping methods? Should I add it to the basket first and get additional (gift address) to session? I dont want to store it in database because of the relation between gift address and order is needed and since I dont know what's the ID of the order. I'm puzzled :) Additionally I think its crucial to keep cart aware of shipping methods and additional bought services (by selecting gift address there is an extra fee) because the cart content is just like an reciept? In brief, what is the best practice to process checkout?

• Problem making ant compile my classes present in different Eclipse projects into single destination

  I have close to about 20 projects in my Eclipse workspace. They are interdependent. Now I want to build all of them in a single war file. The thing is eclipse does it nicely... if I create a Dynamic Web Project and link sources of all the 20 projects. But I want to automate the entire process and want to be able to run a script (ant maybe..) and deploy a war in my app server. My approach: I started with a simple approach. I tried to sequentially build each project (javac task) with destination directory as web-inf of my war. But it is giving me weird errors like : package " ** " not found,when it shows the same all the required classes in classpath (I used verbose) Do you think, a continous integration engine will be better for my case (20 projects..) I saw Team City, but didnt get it the first time...

  Besides open-sourcing your project and legislation, are there ways to prevent, or at least minimize the damages of code leaking outside your company/group? We obviously can't block Internet access (to prevent emailing the code) because programmer's need their references. We also can't block peripheral devices (USB, Firewire, etc.) The code matters most when it has some proprietary algorithms and in-house developed knowledge (as opposed to regular routine code to draw GUIs, connect to databases, etc.), but some applications (like accounting software and CRMs) are just that: complex collections of routine code that are simple to develop in principle, but will take years to write from scratch. This is where leaked code will come in handy to competitors. As far as I see it, preventing leakage relies almost entirely on human process. What do you think? What precautions and measures are you taking? And has code leakage affected you before?

  Hey all, I made a very simple application to start playing around with Android development. It works fine on the emulator, but it gives me the following error when I try to install it on my HTC Hero (v1.5): Sorry!   assume I have a csv.DictReader object and I want to write it out as a csv file. How can I do this? I thought of the following: dr = csv.DictReader(open(f), delimiter='\t') # process my dr object # ... # write out object output = csv.DictWriter(open(f2, 'w'), delimiter='\t') for item in dr: output.writerow(item) Is that the best way? More importantly, how can I make it so a header is written out too, in this case the object "dr"s .fieldnames property? thanks.

Does anybody have idea how release this behaviour? And yes, I know that I can make my own implementation of IModelBinder, but I'm looking for easier way.

• Best tool to check and ensure PDF/A compatibility under Linux

  I am working on an online portal, where researchers can upload their research papers. One requirement is, that all PDFs are stored in PDF/A-format. As I can't rely on the users to generate PDF/A conforming documents, I need a tool to check and convert standard PDFs into PDF/A format. What is the best tool you know of? Price Quality Speed Available APIs Open-source tools would be prefered, but a search revealed none. iText can create PDF/a, but converting isn't easy to do, as you have to read every page and copy it to a new document, losing all bookmarks and annotations in this process. (At least as far as I know, if you know of an easy solution, let me know). APIs should be available for either PHP, Java or a command-line-tool should be provided. Please do not list either GUI-only or Online-only solutions.
