  • VB.NET: Scrollbar "button"?

    I plan on using a scrollbar for, well, scrolling an image. The image is 200x500, however, the only visible area is 200x250. So I set the max value to 250, and the min value to 0. The idea is that if I drag the scrollbar's button to the bottom, 250 pixels will have moved for the image, right? But wait, the scrollbar's button is.... very small. And the scrollbar is actually pretty long. Is there a way to make the scrollbar's button longer?

  • Sanity Check: change event not firing first time using keyboard

    I've done a good amount of research on this and found a bunch of reported problems and solutions but the general consensus seems that all change problems in IE6 were fixed in jQuery 1.4.2. I'm having an issue where a change event is not firing in jQuery 1.4.2, but it did fire successfully in jQuery 1.3.2. This is in IE6. I'm about to submit a bug for this, but for my sanity I wanted to post it here first to see if there's something dumb I'm missing. The page loads, the focus is in the drop down, you change the option, you get the alert. The problem is if you use the keyboard. The page loads, the focus is in the drop down, you press the down arrow. The option changes. Tab off the field, no alert. Weird. To make it even weirder, if you tab back into the field and change it again (all using the keyboard), the change event DOES fire after tab out this time. Any ideas?

  • .net c# text box date with mask - setup

    I have a c# .net project and want an input text box for a date value. I want it to display a default value of mm/dd/yyyy and then allow users to enter valid dates. I have tried using a masked text box but it doesn't like having the above format. If i try and use //__ looks naff and so does 00/00/0000 and of course if you put in '0' like 03/11/2009 you get 3/11/29 because the 0's are deleted as part of the mask - so what is the best way to set up an input box like this, effectively with a mask, only allowing numbers, and validation (though at this point I am not so worried about that). This seems so simple and isn't. Thanks, R.

Lets say we have this code: bool KeepGoing = true; DataInThread = new Thread(new ThreadStart(DataInThreadMethod)); DataInThread.Start(); //bla bla time goes on KeepGoing = false; private void DataInThreadMethod() { while (KeepGoing) { //Do stuff } } } Now the idea is that using the boolean is a safe way to terminate the thread however because that boolean exists on the calling thread does that cause any issue? That boolean is only used on the calling thread to stop the thread so its not like its being used elsewhere

  • Visual Studio Debugger Voodoo

    Ok, maybe this isn't so amazing considering I don't really understand how the debugger works in the first place, let alone Edit and Continue, which is totally amazing. But I was wondering if anyone knew what the debugger is doing with variable declarations in this scenario. I can be debugging through my code, move the line of execution ahead - past a variables initial declaration and assignment, and the code still runs ok. If it's a value type it will have it's default value, for a ref type, null. So if I create a function that uses a variable before it's declared it won't compile, but if I use the debugger to run it that way it will still run without error. Why is this? And is this related to the fact that you can't put a breakpoint on a declaration?

    I am having a problem with selecting a certain child node. What I want to achieve: I you have this treeview for example (one parent with two child nodes): Parent -Child with a value 5 -Child with a value 2. I want to add these two values and assign them to Parent node: Parent result 7 -Child 5 -Child 2. Of course, a bigger treeview would have several parents and lots of children and they will all add up to one root node. How can I do this?? pls help. thx, Caslav

    Hey guys, How can I figure out which word is at the point where the user tapped on a UIWebView? I am able to detect the CGPoint for the tap (subclassing UIWindow like this), and I can actually get the DOM element on that point using javascript. But I know very little of javascript and DOM to figure out how can I actually get which word the user tapped on. Is that possible?     I'm using Rails 2.3.5 and have a nested structure as follows: Lists has_many Items Items_Features has_many Features Items_Features has_many Items Items_Features has a text field to hold the value of the feature Then I have a nested form with partials to update and display this so that it updates Lists, Items and Items_Features What I want to do is generate input fields for each of the rows in features so that the user can fill in a value and it gets inserted/updated in items_features. I also want a label next to the box to display the feature name.     Hello. In simplistic terms, a feature structure is an unordered list of attribute-value pairs. [number:sg, person:3 | _ ], which can be embedded: [cat:np, agr:[number:sg, person:3 | _ ] | _ ], can subindex stuff and share the value [number:[1], person:3 | _ ], where [1] is another feature structure (that is, it allows reentrancy). My question is: what data structure would people think this should be implemented with for later access to values, to perform unification between 2 fts, to "type" them, etc. There is a full book on this, but it's in lisp, which simplifies list handling. So, my choices are: a hash of lists, a list of lists, or a trie. What do people think about this?

    I have a database table and one of the fields (not primary key) is having unique index on it. Now I want to swap values under this column for two rows. How could this be done? Two hack I know are: Delete both rows and re-insert them Update rows with some other value and swap and then update to actual value. But I don't want to go for these as they do not seem to be the appropriate solution to the problem. Could anyone help me out?

    I have a method that takes an enum as a parameter and returns some information dependent on that parameter. However, that enum contains some values which should not be handled, and should raise an error condition. Currently the method throws an IllegalArgumentException but I would like this to be a checked exception to force callers to catch it (and return gracefully, logging an error). Is there something suitable or should I create my own Exception subclass? I'm open to other patterns as well. A reasonable reaction would be that all values of the enum should be handled, but that isn't the case. When a new value is added to the enum, I want to make sure that this method does the right thing - alerting a human is preferable to using some default return value in this case. Thanks for any advice.

  • Division to the nearest 1 decimal place without floating point math?

    I am having some speed issues with my C# program and identified that this percentage calculation is causing a slow down. The calculation is simply n/d * 100. Both the numerator and denominator can be any integer number. The numerator can never be greater than the denominator and is never negative. Therefore, the result is always from 0-100. Right now, this is done by simply using floating point math and is somewhat slow, since it's being calculated tens of millions of times. I really don't need anything more accurate than to the nearest 0.1 percent. And, I just use this calculated value to see if it's bigger than a fixed constant value. I am thinking that everything should be kept as an integer, so the range with 0.1 accuracy would be 0-1000. Is there some way to calculate this percentage without floating point math?

  • Convert void* representation of a dword to wstring

    I am having dumb monday so my apologies for posting such a newbie-like question. I am using CRegKey.QueryValue to return a dword value from the registry. QueryValue writes the value into void* pData and the length into ULONG* pnBytes. Now there is a way of getting it from pData into a wstring probably via stringstream. The closest I came was getting the result as a hex string. I was about to work on converting the hex representation to a dword and then from there to a wstring when I decided that was just dumb and ask on here instead of wasting another hour of my life on the problem.

    I am trying to implement a password hashing/salting algorithm from crackstation.net, but I am unsure how implement it. Storing the password upon user registration seems to be as simple as passing the password into create_hash(). $password = create_hash($_POST['Password']; I'm not following how to validate upon user login. validate_password($password, $good_hash) returns either true or false, and takes $password as parameter, so it seems like a no brainer except for the second parameter $good_hash. Where does this param come from? It is my understanding that password is turned into a hash value every time its used, and that the hash value is what is stored and compared. So why would I have both the $password and $good_hash values? Quick overview of the functions: function create_hash($password){ calls pbkdf2() } function validate_password($password, $good_hash){ calls pbkdf2() calls slow_equals() } function slow_equals($a, $b){ } function pbkdf2($algorithm, $password, $salt, $count, $key_length, $raw_output = false){ } Of course a different, better method for this would also be just as helpful. Person class has property named "ContactNumber" which returns the Contact type, and this property is marked as "Datamember" for serialization. i have marked Contact type as "DAtaContract". on client side i am able to get the values, but when i try to insert a value and then do submit, i get the below exception.     I need to change the color of a cell in ReportViewer based on its value. 1) I got the first part down - I'm comparing the difference between two numbers like so: =IIf(Fields!variance.Value > 0) 2) Now how do I actually change the visual formatting of the cell? A web standards way would be to add a class - since then you can format the class to whatever you like, e.g. changing borders, typography, bacgkround color etc. Since ReportViewer sucks and doesn't have that functionality what should I use instead?
