  • "0x80004005: Unspecified error" when renaming folders in Windows 7

    Setup I've just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. The operating system is installed on an 80GB Intel X-25M. I have a secondary 500GB Barracuda 7200.12 to be used for storage. This second drive is mounted as 'G'. Problem I'm getting an error whenever I try to rename a folder within this drive. The error says: An unexpected error is keeping you from renaming the folder. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem. Error 0x80004005: Unspecified error Clicking the "Try Again" button gets past the error, and correctly renames the folder. If I create a folder and leave it's name as "New Folder", then I don't see an error. I'm also able to manipulate files however I want without seeing an error. Things I've Tried Changing permissions on the drive Reformatting the drive. I've tried using both a "Basic" and "Dynamic" partition table. Checking the drive for errors using Microsoft tools Things I've Not Yet Tried When I first installed Windows I was given a choice between three types of partitions to use. I no longer remember what the choices were or what I selected. One was a GUID partition table, one was a traditional MBR, and I can't remember the third option.

  • Juniper EX3300 routing issue

    The routing on my Juniper EX3300 does not seem to be working. My ISP's gateway is at xx.xx.xx.xx. And I have the following in the configuration: routing-options { static { route 0.0.0.0/0 { next-hop xx.xx.xx.xx; retain; } } } I can ping to my ISP's gateway from the switch. However, I can NOT ping to any other IP. When I do a traceroute (to Google.com's IP). This is what I get: traceroute to 74.125.224.69 (74.125.224.69), 30 hops max, 40 byte packets traceroute: sendto: No route to host 1 traceroute: wrote 74.125.224.69 40 chars, ret=-1 *traceroute: sendto: No route to host Do I need to enable any protocols? I guess this goes without saying, but I am kind of new to Junos.   • Windows Vista DHCP bug, arp authorize, isc dhcp, workaround

    I am trying to find a workaround for the Windows Vista Force Broadcast bug with ISC DHCP and a Cisco Router. The problem is not windows vista trying to obtain an IP address from us that works fine (with or without the flag enabled). THe problem is we are using a cisco router and the command 'arp authorized' to prevent users from using static IP addresses on the network. The problem is, if Windows Vista sets the boot flag to true the command 'arp authorized' will not work, as it looks for the IP address and destination MAC address in the DHCP Offer Packet to add it to its arp table. The machine will DHCP just fine, but since the ARP table is not aware of the machine, it is unable to access the internet. If I disable the broadcast flag in vista, the next time it DHCPs an arp entry gets created since the DHCP Offer is unicast instead of broadcast. The thing is, we can not tell 500 to 1000 people to edit their registry, so we need a workaround for this issue. I have not had much success in finding a workaround. The question is, is there a way to force or trick ISC DHCP into unicasting a responce back to the user. Either on the Cisco Side, ISC DHCP side or intercepting and rewriting the DHCP Discover UDP packet to turn off the flag before it reaches ISC DHCP?

    I had installed virtualbox 4.2.2 in Windows 7.     I'm trying to setup a vSphere Client vCenter v5.0.0 Build 455964 Template Customization Specification using a Windows Sysprep unattended answer XML file for Win2008R2. However I didn't know how Sysprep worked before attempting this so it was a time-consuming nightmare (even after reviewing VMware vSphere ESXi 5's documentation)! I think I've figure out what I'm supposed to be doing, but it's still not working. The biggest problem at this point is that vSphere Client vCenter Customization Specification IP address information is not sticking when I load a Sysprep XML file with just 1 basic setting! This can only be a bug. Here is the process I'm using: PROCESS for Windows - vSphere Client Install Windows OS install VM Tools customize Windows (GPOs can be used to do this after deployment) install Applications (GPOs can be used to do this after deployment too) shutdown the VM convert the VM to a template create a custom Windows Sysprep XML answer file with desired customizations View Management Customization Specifications Manager create "New" Specification for "Target Virtual Machine OS" select Windows check "Use Custom Sysprep Answer File" (ADDS: Custom Sysprep File. KEEPS: Network (IP), Operating System Options (SID, Sysprep /generalize).   • Robocopy unilog output is gibberish

    I tried to get robocopy in Windows 7 to generate a Unicode log, since I have files with Unicode characters. The command I used: robocopy C:\mysource D:\mydest /mir /unilog:backup.log /tee File the copy works and the onscreen output is correct, the log file itself just contains gibberish. This is regardless of whether I use the Command Prompt or the Powershell. What gives? Am I doing something wrong?

The second number is the subnet IP address separated by a comma. Enter the first IP address of the new range followed by the subnet mask, separated by a comma. (For example, 169.254.0.1,255.255.0.0.). Modify the data value of the Start value in the following registry key: Hkey_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ICSharing\Addressing\Settings Change the value to the second address of the selected IP range. This address cannot be the same or a lower value than the IP address used for the IntranetInfo key. Modify the data value for the Stop value in the same registry key.   • BAD DC transfering FSMO Roles to ADC

    I have a DC (FQDN:server.icmcpk.local) and an ADC (FQDN:file-server.icmcpk.local). Recently my DC is facing a bad sector problem so I changed the Operation Masters to file-server for all five roles. but when ever i turn off the OLD DC the file-server also stops wroking with AD and GPMC further i m also unable to join any other computer to this domain. For Test purpose i also added a new ADC (FQDN:wds-server.icmcpk.local) but no succes with the old DC off i had to turn the old DC on and then joined it.   • Server Performance

    I know very little about performance tuning of servers etc... so i thought i'd put this up here as i start some research on it, just to get some direction. I am in the process of migrating from my old server to a new one - both are 64 bit machines. One is a few years old, the other brand new (PowerEdge R410). The old server spec is: 2 cpus, 3.4GHz Pentiums, 8G of RAM, Fedora 11 currently installed The new server spec is: 16 cpus, 3.2 GHz Xeon, 16G of RAM, CentOS 6.2 installed. Also RAID10 is on the new server - no RAID on the old one. Both servers currently have the same database (MySQL) with the same data migrated. I wrote a Perl script that simply steps through each row of a table in the database (about 18000 rows) and updates a value in that row. Every row in the table is updated. Out of curiosity i ran this perl script on both machines, just to see how the new server would perform vs. the old one, and it produced interesting results: The old server was twice as fast as the new one to complete. Looking at the database, both are configured exactly the same (the new one being a dump of the old one...)... Anyone any ideas why this would be given the hardware gap between both? As i said i'm about to start some digging, but thought i'd put this up here to maybe get some good direction.... Many thanks in advance..

    I have migrated a file based Xen guest to LVM using dd bs=1M if=/dev/zero of=/dev/vg00/vm10 qemu-img convert ~/vm10.qcow2 -O raw /dev/vg00/vm10 and changed the Xen domain file for the VM to use the LV instead of the old file.   • How to add a Linux Partition on FreeBSD

    Today I installed FreeBSD 9.0 PPC on my Mac mini G4 with 40GB HDD. During installation, (using the FSBD utility 'gpart') I have allocated a total of about 23GB for FreeBSD leaving 17GB totally free (neither partitioned, nor formatted) for a later Linux installation. Now, when try to install Linux (Ubuntu 10.10 PPC) on the remaining 17GB, the Linux/Ubuntu installer (or Linux's Disk Utility for the same matter) wants presumably a linux partition and when I try to add a (Linux) partition on that area using Linux DU it fails with this message: Error creating partition: helper exited with exit code 1: In part_add_partition: device_file=/dev/hda, start=23363101696, size=16644660224, type= Entering MS-DOS parser (offset=0, size=40007761920) No MSDOS_MAGIC found Exiting MS-DOS parser Entering Apple parser Mac MAGIC found, block_size=512 map_count = 17 Leaving Apple parser Apple partition table detected containing partition table scheme = 2 got it Error: The partition's data region doesn't occupy the entire partition. ped_disk_new() failed Now, I'm trying to add a Linux partition on FreeBSD running on the harddisk. I use seemingly most suitable tool for this job: gpart. Here is the 'gpart show ad0' But it seems unable to add a Linux partition because "man gpart" doesn't list either "Linux Partition" nor anything like Ext2 or Ext3/Ext4. The closest thing to Linux Partition in gpart is "mbr" but it doesn't work: #gpart add -t mbr ado So, how to add properly a Linux Partition on FreeBSD? Thanks.

    I listen to a daily podcast that is about 4 hours long. I think it would be a cool project if I could come with some way to generate transcripts of it automatically. Is there any software that will "listen" to the mp3s and create text of what they are saying? I'm not very concerned with differentiating who is talking because I think that would be asking too much. There are 4 main people speaking and others less often.

    Hi, We have a number of applications that generate fairly large (500Mb a day) logfiles that we need to archive/compress on a daily basis. Currently, the log rotation/moving/compressions is done either via custom bash scripts and scheduled via Cron, or in the application's code itself. What (if any) are the advantages of using a system daemon like logadm? (These are Solaris boxes). Cheers, Victor

  • Sql Server Management Studio: Change Prefix or Suffix characters

    I have an instance of SSMS 2008, for which the option to edit data in a table doesn't work. If I right-click on any table in the Object Explorer and select 'Edit top 200 rows' I get an error dialog 'Invalid prefix or suffix characters. (MS Visual Database Tools)'. The error seems to be associated specifically with SSMS, not with SQL Server (because this SSMS instance gives the same error no matter what database I connect to, but I've verified I can connect to some of the same databases using SSMS on other machines without the error). (However, our firewall prevents me using SSMS on other machines for some crucial tasks, so I do need to fix the problem). Googling for the error suggests that I should change the prefix, suffix or escape character, but without any indication of how you can make that change in SSMS. I'd also note that I'm not aware of having done any customization on SSMS since installing it, so would be surprised at having to make such a change now. Does anyone have any idea what the error message means or what I can do about it? Or how I can change the prefix/suffix/escape characters if that is really the problem.
