  • Under what circumstances would a LINQ-to-SQL Entity "lose" a changed field?

    I'm going nuts over what should be a very simple situation. In an ASP.NET MVC 2 app (not that I think this matters), I have an edit action which takes a very small entity and makes a few changes. The key portion (outside of error handling/security) looks like this: Todo t = Repository.GetTodoByID(todoID); UpdateModel(t); Repository.Save(); Todo is the very simple, small entity with the following fields: ID (primary key), FolderID (foreign key), PercentComplete, TodoText, IsDeleted and SaleEffortID (foreign key). Each of these obviously corresponds to a field in the database. When UpdateModel(t) is called, t does get correctly updated for all fields which have changed. When Repository.Save() is called, by the time the SQL is written out, FolderID reverts back to its original value. The complete code to Repository.Save(): public void Save() { myDataContext.SubmitChanges(); } myDataContext is an instance of the DataContext class created by the LINQ-to-SQL designer. Nothing custom has been done to this aside from adding some common interfaces to some of the entities. The other fields all save. (Well, OK, I haven't validated SaleEffortID yet, because that subsystem isn't really ready yet, but everything else saves.) I've exhausted my own means of research on this: Does anyone know of conditions which would cause a partial entity reset (EG, something to do with long foreign keys?), and/or how to work around this?

  • jQuery: tabs where the tab/content can be linked to

    My issue is simple. I have already implemented a tab system, and I'd probably spend more time implementing another one with the solution I need, than giving a shot at adapting the code I have, and learn something while asking :) My problem is that the tabs can't be linked to, I need to be able to link to a tab from another website or page, and have that tab get selected upon page load. ie: I have three tabs showing different products, by default tab 1 is active/selected when the page loads. From the home page I want to link to tab 2 but I can't link to tab 2 because it doesn't get selected. Not sure if that makes sense.   • How to get a service to listen on port 80 on Windows Server 2003

    I've coded a custom windows service that listens on TCP port 80 but when I try to install it on a Windows Server 2003 machine it fails to start because some other service is already listening on that port. So far I've disabled the IIS Admin service and the HTTP SSL service but no luck. When I run netstat -a -n -o | findstr 0.0:80 it gives me the process id 4 as the culprit, but when I look at the running processes that process id points to the "System" process. What can I do to get the System process to stop listening on port 80 and get my service to listen instead? P.S. I should point out that the service runs fine if I install it on my Windows XP or Windows 7 development boxes. Also, I should specify that this has nothing to do with it being a service. I've tried starting a regular application that attempts to bing to port 80 on the Windows Server 2003 with the same outcome - it fails because another application is already bound to that port.

Is there any way to persist a collection of an interface, which has several implementations, with Hibernate?

    Hi guys, I wonder if its is possible to do AJAX when I put a button inside the xsl file; <input type = "button" id="laptop" value = "Add to Cart" onclick="sendCartRequest('Add');" /> That's what I do in my xsl file then in my js file I pass the id to the DOM and try to alert it make sure it is passed. And the alert appear to be empty. Is it a mistake to put the button in the xsl? or that's something else that cause it's empty? May be my DOMpath? Please point me a right direction. I need to split it every 100 characters (full words only) until all the characters are used up. So we'd end up with: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.   • EF4 Import/Lookup thousands of records - my performance stinks!

    I'm trying to setup something for a movie store website (using ASP.NET, EF4, SQL Server 2008), and in my scenario, I want to allow a "Member" store to import their catalog of movies stored in a text file containing ActorName, MovieTitle, and CatalogNumber as follows: Actor, Movie, CatalogNumber John Wayne, True Grit, 4577-12 (repeated for each record) This data will be used to lookup an actor and movie, and create a "MemberMovie" record, and my import speed is terrible if I import more than 100 or so records using these tables: Actor Table: Fields = {ID, Name, etc.} Movie Table: Fields = {ID, Title, ActorID, etc.} MemberMovie Table: Fields = {ID, CatalogNumber, MovieID, etc.} My methodology to import data into the MemberMovie table from a text file is as follows (after the file has been uploaded successfully): Create a context. For each line in the file, lookup the artist in the Actor table. For each Movie in the Artist table, lookup the matching title. If a matching Movie is found, add a new MemberMovie record to the context and call ctx.SaveChanges(). The performance of my implementation is terrible. My expectation is that this can be done with thousands of records in a few seconds (after the file has been uploaded), and I've got something that times out the browser. My question is this: What is the best approach for performing bulk lookups/inserts like this? Should I call SaveChanges only once rather than for each newly created MemberMovie? Would it be better to implement this using something like a stored procedure? Create a key called FacebookDisplayName with a string value, and add the Display Name you configured in the App Dashboard. Create an array key called URL types with a single array sub-item called URL Schemes. Give this a single item with your app ID prefixed with fb. This is used to ensure the application will receive the callback URL of the web-based OAuth flow. The finished .plist should look something like this: My question is where to put these values? They already put this image, maybe it helps you to answer me Edit The problem that I don't have any plist file in my framework in xcode and I can't add a new one because if i did, I would have to add all the variables that you see in the image but the tutorial just stated about some of them

  • Dynamic object property populator (without reflection)

    I want to populate an object's properties without using reflection in a manner similar to the DynamicBuilder on CodeProject. The CodeProject example is tailored for populating entities using a DataReader or DataRecord. I use this in several DALs to good effect. Now I want to modify it to use a dictionary or other data agnostic object so that I can use it in non DAL code --places I currently use reflection. I know almost nothing about OpCodes and IL. I just know that it works well and is faster than reflection. I have tried to modify the CodeProject example and because of my ignorance with IL, I have gotten stuck on two lines. One of them deals with dbnulls and I'm pretty sure I can just lose it, but I don't know if the lines preceding and following it are related and which of them will also need to go. The other, I think, is the one that pulled the value out of the datarecord before and now needs to pull it out of the dictionary. I think I can replace the "getValueMethod" with my "property.Value" but I'm not sure. I'm open to alternative/better ways of skinning this cat too.   • Best practices for querying an entire row in a database table? (MySQL / CodeIgniter)

    Sorry for the novice question! I have a table called cities in which I have fields called id, name, xpos, ypos. I'm trying to use the data from each row to set a div's position and name. What I'm wondering is what's the best practice for dynamically querying an unknown amount of rows (I don't know how many cities there might be, I want to pull the information from all of them) and then passing the variables from the model into the view and then setting attributes with it? Right now I've 'hacked' a solution where I run a different function each time which pulls a value using a query ('SELECT id FROM cities;'), then I store that in a global array variable and pass it into view. I do this for each var so I have arrays called: city_idVar, city_nameVar, city_xposVar, city_yposVar then I know that the city_nameVar[0] matches up with city_xposVar[0] etc. Is there a better way?

  • Pushing a variable onto a vector, value at that point in vector changes when the variable does.

    I have a programming problem =) std::vector<char*> Names; if(MyPacket.ID == 3) {Names.push_back(MyPacket.Buffer);} I push the recieved buffer onto a vector like so, but when the buffer changes so does the value of the variable at that point in the vector. So say I sent and pushed a buffer containing 'Simon' onto the vector that would be fine so at point [0] on the vector would be the word Simon. but then when I recieve a new buffer it overwrites position [0] even though the packets ID is different, a breakpoint within the if statement is not reached with this new buffer. I really hope i'm explaining this well enough, I tried asking a friends advice and he pointed me towards this site. Any help appreciated David Andrews

    I have a form (Quote) with an auto-number ID, on the form at the moment are two subforms that show different items (sub 1 shows partition modules sub 2 shows partition abutments) both forms use the same parts tables to build them. Both forms are linked to the quote form using the ID. All works well until the forms is refreshed or re-loaded, subform 1 shows the module names and quantities and blank spaces for the abutment names but shows the quantiews for the abutments, the reverse of this is shown in the abutments subform 2. When the lists for the variuos types and the detailed parts lists are printed they are correct. This seems to be only a visual problem. All based on Access 2003.     Let's say I have a Type II SCD database, that is basically append only. I am using NHibernate to persist objects to my database. I have an object like so: Pony |- int Id |- Guid EntityId |- string PonyName |- string PonyColor |- int RevisionValidFrom |- int RevisionValidTo Here's a typical scenario: Pony myLittlePony = myStable.GetLatestPonyByGuid("0f1ac08a-3328-43db-b278-77c272e4fea3"); myLittlePony.PonyColor = "Fish"; myNHSession.Save(myLittlePony); I want to be able to call Session.Save(myLittlePony) and have NHibernate UPDATE the old entity's RevisionValidTo to whatever I specify and then INSERT the modified Pony as a new row with a new Id, basically as if it were a brand new object being persisted to the DB.

May I know How I can manipulate Comment's properties for each row? Any help would be appreciated. I tried in my javascript that for each row rowObject.Comments.FirstName and it did not work.

  • Storing uploaded content on a website

    For the past 5 years, my typical solution for storing uploaded files (images, videos, documents, etc) was to throw everything into an "upload" folder and give it a unique name. I'm looking to refine my methods for storing uploaded content and I'm just wondering what other methods are used / preferred. I've considered storing each item in their own folder (folder name is the Id in the db) so I can preserve the uploaded file name. I've also considered uploading all media to a locked folder, then using a file handler, which you pass the Id of the file you want to download in the querystring, it would then read the file and send the bytes to the user. This is handy for checking access, and restricting bandwidth for users.

    I'm getting into writing unit testing and have implemented a nice repository pattern/moq to allow me to test my functions without using "real" data. So far so good.. However.. In my repository interface for "Posts" IPostRepository I have a function: Post getPostByID(int id); I want to be able to test this from my Test class but cannot work out how. I can find the function with mock.object.getpostbyid but the "object" is null.     Hi, I am asking about how could i pass multi parameters to a stored procedure, one of these parameters is user defined table. When I tried to do it it shows this error: INSERT INTO BD (ID, VALUE, BID) values( (SELECT t1.ID, t1.Value FROM @Table AS t1),someintvalue) here @Table is the user defined table parameter. Msg 116, Level 16, State 1, Procedure UpdateBD, Line 12 Only one expression can be specified in the select list when the subquery is not introduced with EXISTS. Msg 109, Level 15, State 1, Procedure UpdateBD, Line 11 There are more columns in the INSERT statement than values specified in the VALUES clause. The number of values in the VALUES clause must match the number of columns specified in the INSERT statement. Thank you

    Hi there, Hoping for some help after reading into MVC routing and not coming up with the answer myself. I have the following routes registered: public static void RegisterRoutes(RouteCollection routes) { routes.IgnoreRoute("{resource}.axd/{*pathInfo}"); routes.MapRoute( null, "YourFeedback/Article/{resourceId}", new { controller = "YourFeedback", action = "Index", contentTypeId = new Guid(ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["ArticleLibraryId"]) }); routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = "" } // Parameter defaults ); } I have the following ActionLink in an aspx view: <%=Html.ActionLink("Your Feedback", "Article", "YourFeedback", new { resourceId = Model.ContentId.ResourceId }, new { @class = "yourFeedback" })%> My understanding of MVC routing is that this would render a anchor link with href of "/YourFeedback/Article/101" where 101 comes from Model.ContentId.ResourceId. Yet the anchor link href is rendered as "YourFeedback/Article/resourceId=101". Any ideas where I'm going wrong? Thanks in advance.
