  In Visual basic 6, i declare a sub like this: Private Sub test1(ByRef XmlFooOutput As String) ... End Sub after that, i declare another sub like the following one: Private Sub test2(ByRef xmlFooOutput As String) ... End Sub automagically, the first method is transformed in: Private Sub test1(ByVal xmlFooOutput As String) ... End Sub so the XmlFooOutput parameter is transformed in xmlFooOutput. This is a pretty dangerous feature because, method like those could be mapped to different XSL presentation files that read XML values through Xpath. So when test1 parameter is renamed, XSL bound to test1 method goes broken because Xpath point to XmlFooOuput but the correct value is now in xmlFooOutput. Is it possible to remove this weird feature? I'm using microsoft visual basic 6.0 (SP6). If your are interested, here is the context: I'm working on outlook 2003 VSTO addin.The installer for this addin creates few registry entries either in HKCU or HKLM depending on "Single User" Or "All User" installation. We are planning not to use "All User" installation since the addins installed for all users does not show up in COM AddIns list in outlook.The alternate approach is to use active set to install for single user.

• How to correctly load 32-bit DLL dependencies when running a program from a batch file

  I have written a tool that references Microsoft.TeamFoundation.VersionControl.Client.dll, which is a 32-bit DLL. When I build my tool on 64-bit Windows, I set Visual Studio to specifically target X86 in order to force it to a 32-bit build. Targetting X86 instead of All-CPU's prevents me from getting a BadImageFormatException, as long as I invoke the tool directly (e.g. by typing "myTool.exe" on the command line). However, if I run a batch file that invokes the tool, I still get the exception. This happens even if the batch file runs in a 32-bit command prompt (%WINDIR%\SysWOW64\cmd.exe). What else can I do to make this work?

• Script.PostDeployment.sql not executing in CI build VS 2010

  I have a database project in VS 2010 (SQL 2008). The local Deploy Solution action works and executes all of the SQL in the Script.PostDeployment.sql file. When I check changes in, the Build Definition for the continuous integration server executes. The database is deployed into the CI environment, but the PostDeployment script doesn't get executed. I wasn't able to find anything specific to this particular scenario. I also expect I'll need to provide additional information unless this is a trivial problem that I missed somewhere. Additional Information: The build is executing vsdbcmd.exe to deploy. The deployment manifest references the PostDeployment.sql file and it's present in the path with the rest of the files. • AcceptSecurityContext (Kerberos) returns SEC_E_LOGON_DENIED

  Hi, I am trying to write a simple application that performs Kerberos authentication (no mutual authentication for now). The operating system is Windows server 2003, standard edition. I have setup Active directory and created an SPN using setspn tool. AcquireCredentialsHandle returns SEC_E_OK both on client and on server. InitializeSecurityContext on client side returns SEC_E_OK. AcceptSecurityContext on server side returns SEC_E_LOGON_DENIED. I am sure there's nothing wrong in my code since the same behaviour I see when using the sample application from the following MSDN article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/dvdarchive/bb985043.aspx So I guess there is something wrong in my setup. But I can't find out what. Maybe I have missed something in SPN setup? Any help is appreciated. Regards, David.

  I need to document a MS-Access application that was created, developed and maintained completely by a power-user over 10 years. This is an interesting situation because what they want is a manual so that a future developer can come in without prior domain knowledge and make changes to the frontend or the backend in a timely manner. There are a few questions on my mind for this little project: What is a good manual design creating application? Microsoft Word doesn't quite cut it. What kind of things would you, the developer, need to know in order to make changes to things like forms, reports, tables or other Access objects? Anything else I missed? Any pitfalls?

• CUDA & VS2010 problem

  I have scoured the internets looking for an answer to this one, but couldn't find any. I've installed the CUDA 3.2 SDK (and, just now, CUDA 4.0 RC) and everything seems to work fine after long hours of fooling around with include directories, NSight, and all the rest. Well, except this one thing: it keeps highlighting the <<< >>> operator as a mistake. Only on VS2010--not on VS2008. On VS2010 I also get several warnings of the following sort: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include\xdebug(109): warning C4251: 'std::_String_val<_Ty,_Alloc>::_Alval' : class 'std::_DebugHeapAllocator<_Ty>' needs to have dll-interface to be used by clients of class 'std::_String_val<_Ty,_Alloc>' Anyone know how this can be fixed?

• Windows Platform Installer fails during Orchard Installation

  I'm attempting to install Orchard 1.0 on a Windows 7 box. It has only just been released. I downloaded and installed the Windows Platform Installer and attempted to install Orchard. The error message is just that the application has stopped working and asks if I want to debug or close the application. The event log contains a single error: "The event logging service encountered an error while processing an incoming event published from Microsoft-Windows-Security-Auditing." I tried installing MVC3 and it worked without issue. Has anyone experienced a similar problem?

• Modifications in default document won't take effect

  We have a website developed by ASP.NET+IIS7 and its default document is default.aspx. It works fine. But when we tried to switch the default to index.html, weird things happened. We have modified web.config as follows: <defaultDocument> <files> <clear /> <add value="index.html" /> </files> </defaultDocument> and we have clear everything under C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files``, and restart the worker process. We even changed the name of Default.aspx to dddd.aspx. But everything stays the same when accessing with http://localhost/<MyAppName>/! And when we tried to access with http://localhost/<MyAppName>/index.html, it works fine. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

  Hi all. I'm trying to get the green box that appears on the second click of a tri-state checkbox to be red, and also to fill up the box.   I'm having trouble with Microsoft Access 2003, it's complaining about this statement: select cardnr from change where year(date)<2009 group by cardnr having max(time+date) = (time+date) and cardto='VIP' What I want to do is, for every distinct cardnr in the table change, to find the row with the latest (time+date) that is before year 2009, and then just select the rows with cardto='VIP'. This validator says it's OK, Access says it's not OK. This is the message I get: "you tried to execute a query that does not include the specified expression 'max(time+date)=time+date and cardto='VIP' and cardnr=' as part of an aggregate function." Could someone please explain what I'm doing wrong and the right way to do it? Thanks

  Issues reading CSV file using OLEDB when filenamen have period. I have a code in C# that reads CSV File using OleDBProvider. It works perfect with filenames in regular format such as Budget.csv but failed when i renamed the file into Budget.DKK.csv or Budget.USD.csv I throws this exception: he Microsoft Jet database engine could not find the object 'Budget.DKK.csv'. Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and the path name correctly. I have no idea so far why is this happenning.

• which layout engine for finding coordinates of html elements on the web page?

  I am doing some web data classification task and was thinking if I could get the co-ordinates of html elements as they would appear on a web-browser without taking into consideration any css or javascript being referred in the web page. My language of programming is c++ and the need results for a couple million of pages, so it has to be fast. I know there is a Microsoft COM component which renders the page in a web browser control and then can be queried for position of different html tags. But this is not suitable in my case as it first renders the whole page which takes up a lot of time. So as I found out, there are open-source layout engines WebKit, Gecko that can probably be used for this. But that's a huge piece of code and I need someone to direct me to the right classes or right modules to look into or any previous/similar work someone has done previously. Also, please let me know what you guys think is a good choice if I want to customize the existing code for use with multiple threads to make it faster. Thanks

  So I am using this to fix PNG transparency on background images in IE6 ul li a { background-image: url('/NewSite/Content/Images/Sprite.png'); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: 0 -48px; background-image: none; filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader(src=/NewSite/Content/Images/Sprite.png, sizingMethod='crop'); } This works great, however I have run into a problem when trying to implement this with a sprite. The fix ignores the positioning and renders as if the position was top right. Is there a way to force background position or a better way to do this. I would prefer to not use JavaScript or change to gifs. Any help is appreciated!

  I'm using Clojure, but I can read Java, so this isn't a Clojure specific question. This doesn't even seem to be working from Java. I'm trying to implement a bit of a 'ping' function using isReachable. The code I'm using is this: (.isReachable (java.net.InetAddress/getByName "www.microsoft.com") 5000) Translated to Java by a good friend of mine: public class NetTest { public static void main (String[] args) throws Exception{ String host = "acidrayne.net"; InetAddress a = InetAddress.getByName(host); System.out.println(a.isReachable(10000)); } } Both of these return false. I suppose I must be doin' it wrong, but Google research is telling me differently. I'm confuzzled!

  Hello, This question mixes client-side scripting with server-side parsing. In some cases, I'm writing a cookie to the user's browser using the document.cookie property. In other cases, I'm writing the same cookie to the user's browser through the ASP.NET Response object. When I'm writing the HttpCookie on the server-side, I am using the Values collection (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/library/system.web.httpcookie.values%28v=VS.80%29.aspx) to store key/value pairs in the cookie. I would also like to be able to write key-value pairs to the cookie through JavaScript. How do I create cookies with Key/Value pairs via JavaScript that ASP.NET can parse? Thank you!

  I am using Microsoft SQL Server and I have a master-detail scenario where I need to store the order of details. So in the Detail table I have ID, MasterID, Position and some other columns. There is also a unique index on MasterID and Position. It works OK except one case: when I have some existing details and I change their order. For example when I change a detail on position 3 with a detail on position 2. When I save the detail on position 2 (which in the database has Position equal to 3) SQL Server protests, because the index uniqueness constraint. How to solve this problem in a reasonable way?   If I need to offer the ability to create, view and print reports from a .NET app, I see that there are 2 options: use a reporting component such as Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportViewer or Crystal Reports which saves a .rpt or similar template file that can be modified as required without having to re-compile the app use System.Drawing.Printing for reporting and store report template data in a database, which keeps things simpler and avoids problems with bulky third party reporting components If I want to be able to modify a report template (which would include layout and data fields) without having to re-compile the app, would the first option above achieve this? If I wanted to be able to modify the template without re-compiling the app, how could this be achieved with the second option? How could you store data representing the templates in a database such that it could be modified without having to re-compile the app?

  Hello, in my website, I want to add a "invite friend of my contacts book" functionnality. I would like that the user fills the loggin form in my website. Then the website contacts Google Mail, Yahoo Mail, Live Mail and retrieves the contact list. In the Oauth protocole supported by Google and Yahoo, the user is redirected to a Google or Yahoo page (like Facebook) in order to permit the user to give permissions. But I saw two websites which didn't any redirections to get the contacts book (LinkedIn for a Google mail account and Theauteurs with a live mail.) Do you know how I can get a contacts book without redirect the user to Google, Microsoft or Yahoo website.

  Hi, This is a question about installing driver. I have the following files : aaa.cat aaa.inf x86\ttt.sys I can install this driver by clicking "update driver" in device manager. But now I need to install this driver on Windows (XP, Vista and Win7) by using C++. How could I do this? On the other hand, I can't use install shield or other tool to do the job. • How to program three editions Light, Pro, Ultimate in one solution

  I'd like to know how best to program three different editions of my C# ASP.NET 3.5 application in VS2008 Professional (which includes a web deployment project). I have a Light, Pro and Ultimate edition (or version) of my application. At the moment I've put all in one solution with three build versions in configuration manager and I use preprocessor directives all over the code (there are around 20 such constructs in some ten thousand lines of code, so it's overseeable): #if light //light code #endif #if pro //pro code #endif //etc... I've read in stackoverflow for hours and thought to encounter how e.g. Microsoft does this with its different Windows editions, but did not find what I expected. Somewhere there is a heavy discussion about if preprocessor directives are evil. What I like with those #if-directives is: the side-by-side code of differences, so I will understand the code for the different editions after six months and the special benefit to NOT give out compiled code of other versions to the customer. OK, long explication, repeated question: What's the best way to go?

I've encountered in the following paragraph: “Debug vs Release setting in the IDE when you compile your code in Visual Studio makes almost no difference to performance… the generated code is almost the same. The C# compiler doesn’t really do any optimisation. The C# compiler just spits out IL… and at the runtime it’s the JITer that does all the optimisation. The JITer does have a Debug/Release mode and that makes a huge difference to performance. But that doesn’t key off whether you run the Debug or Release configuration of your project, that keys off whether a debugger is attached.” The source is here and the podcast is here. • Easy way for Crystal Reports to MS SQL Server Reporting Services conversion

  Is there a way to easily convert Crystal Reports reports to Reporting Services RDL format? We have quite a few reports that will be needing conversion soon. I know about the manual process (which is basically rebuilding all your reports from scratch in SSRS), but my searches pointed to a few possibilities with automatic conversion "acceleration" with several consulting firms. (As described on http://www.microsoft.com/sql/technologies/reporting/partners/crystal-migration.mspx). Do any of you have any valid experiences or recomendations regarding this particular issue? Are there any tools around that I do not know about?
