• Ideas on limiting content to single printed page?

  I have 5-6 text areas that users fill out in a template (a couple of columns, basically a newsletter format). I'm needing to limit their content to one printed page, but I'm having a hard time coming up with practical solutions. The printed format (margin, font size, etc.) will be the same for all users, as it's printed from a central source. I've had a couple of ideas, but all of them seem rather unreliable and difficult to implement: Determine height of content using JavaScript and estimate the number of printed pages from that. The problem with this is that browser font sizes can vary, it's only a rough estimate (pixels to inches), etc. Limit the number of characters. This is problematic because there are various text fields, certain characters (like M) take up more space than others (like I), and line breaks obviously count for much more. What ideas do you all have? I appreciate your help!

  Hi Is it possible to have to make a html for helper in asp.net mvc 2.0 have a default value of "empty string" Like if I do this Html.TextBoxFor( u => u.ProductName) would render to <input id ="ProductName" name="ProdcutName" type="text" value="Jim" /> Now I don't want the textbox to display jim. I want it to display nothing. <input id ="ProductName" name="ProdcutName" type="text" value="" /> I tried to do this Html.TextBoxFor( u => u.ProductName, new { @value = " "}) but that seems to do nothing. So how can I do this. I hope you can do something like this otherwise I think these new helpers have a great flaw since now I need to use like javascript to remove them since I hardly ever want a default value in the textbox especially when I have a label right beside the textbox saying what it is.

  Hello, I want to copy files from one directory to another (subdirectory) using Java. I have a directory, dir, with text files. I iterate over the first 20 files in dir, and want to copy them to another directory in the dir directory, which I have created right before the iteration. In the code, I want to copy the review (which represents the ith text file or review) to trainingDir. How can I do this? There seems not to be such a function (or I couldn't find). • Jquery question : maintain focus upon appending a row?

  The function below checks whether the id entered is already in the database, and if it is, then it adds some html to the table. I'm not sure if it's directly related to my issue or not, but, essentially, a user will place the focus on the id input field and enters an id. Using ajax, it posts to a php script and returns data if rows are found and nothing if it doesn't. If the user then tabs over to the next input field (zipcode), or clicks in another input field, they essentially have to do so twice. The cursor "flashes" in the field briefly and then focuses out. I tried adding in a focus(), but the behavior didn't change. • EditText and Button on the same line with Textiew underneath?

  Hi, I am trying to have an EditText widget next to a button with a text view underneath. The EditText should resize and fill the screen accordingly, while the button's width is always only what it needs to be by setting the width to wrap_content. The layout should not be relative. Below is the code I have so far some of which was found here on StackOverflow. Removing the text view gives the desired appearance for the EditText and button, but when the TextView is added the view goes to ... well. Not sure why the code is not showing? • Lucene search on specific field name?

  I have been playing around with an installation of SOLR that indexes some data from my database. I am able to index data and query it back but I was wondering about how field name queries work. For certain fields I am able to specify their name and the search text to have the results return as expected and for other fields, when I specify their name and search text, no results are returned. q=type:book //(this will work) q=type:book AND title:"The Title" //(no results returned) In this example, type is a required field and title is not. For the example where I search by title, I can see the document in the results of the first query having the given title so I know that a document exists that matches this search. Is making a field 'required' the only way to be able to search by field name? [edit] I'm using the default installation and the 'example' folder inside of solr, editing the xml files and using the interface available through start.jar to be able to run, index and query.

  please help me with the following if you can, i have the simple following command me.textbox1.databindings.clear me.textbox1.databindings.add("text",TicketsBindingSource,"TicketSubject") the command exeutes succesfully and i can see in the textbox the title, BUT once i click on the textbox1 the position of the cursor it's always moving to the position 0 and not to the area of the textbox i clicked. For example my textbox has the following text: "Hello World". If i click with my mouse inside the textbox at the letter W or anywhere i click the cursor is moving to the 0 index. eg. at the beggining , in order to move my cursor left or right i have to do that with my keyboard arrows keys, Dose anybody know how i can solve this issue?

  I am trying to read a file in a servlet. I am using eclipse IDE. I get a FileNotFoundException if I provide relative file name. List<String> ls=new ArrayList<String>(); Scanner input = new Scanner(new File("Input.txt")); while(input.hasNextLine()) { ls.add(input.nextLine()); } The same code works if I put the absolute path like this: Scanner input = new Scanner(new File("F:/Spring and other stuff/AjaxDemo/src/com/pdd/ajax/Input.txt")); The Java file and text file are there in the same folder. Does it searches text file in some other folder ?

• Delphi: Application error logging in the field

  Using Delphi 7, I wonder if there is a free component which will collect diagnostic information as my application runs at a remote site and will help me to debug error reports. Maybe it records each menu item selected, control clicked, text input, etc? Maybe it just dumps the stack on a crash. Maybe it does something else ... I don't mind adding code (e.g at the start and end of each procedure), as that might generate more useful info than a fully automatic system. I am not sure if the solution ought to "phone home" or if it is enough to produce a text file which can be emailed to me. Any suggestions?
