• How to optimize MATLAB loops?

  I have been working lately on a number of iterative algorithms in MATLAB, and been getting hit hard by MATLAB's performance (or lack thereof) when it comes to loops. I'm aware of the benefit of vectorizing code when possible, but are there any tools for optimization when you need the loop for your algorithm? I am aware of the MEX-file option to write small subroutines in C/C++, although given my algorithms, this can be a very painful option given the data structures required. I mainly use MATLAB for the simplicity and speed of prototyping, so a syntactically complex, statically typed language is not ideal for my situation. Are there any other suggestions? Even other languages (python?) which have relatively painless matrix tools are an option.

  Hi all, I have two windows that I send scripted input to. The procedure goes as this BringWindowToTop( window1 ); i = Build input structures( window1 ); SendInput(i); BringWindowToTop( window2 ); i = Build input structures( window2 ); SendInput(i); I was having trouble with inputs not being sent and the correct time. I put delays after each call and saw that input from the first SendInput() was processed after window2 is brought to top. Same thing at the end of the loop as well. Are SendInput calls buffered? If so, how can I make sure of a serial execution of this code? Thanks

• Can I set a property on an object that is only declared on the instance type, when I don't know the

  Let me explain. I have a List into which I am adding various ASP.NET controls. I then wish to loop through the list and set a CssClass, however not every Control supports the property CssClass. What I would like to do is test if the underlying instance type supports the CssClass property and set it, but I'm not sure how to do the conversion prior to setting the property since I don't know the type of each Control object. I know that I can use typeof or x.GetType(), but I'm not sure how to use these to convert the controls back to the instance type in order to test for and then set the property. Actually I seem to have solved this, so I thought that I would post the code here for others. foreach (Control c in controlList) { PropertyInfo pi = c.GetType().GetProperty("CssClass"); if (pi != null) pi.SetValue(c, "desired_css_class", null); } I hope that this helps someone else as I has taken me hours to research these 2 lines of code.   for my application I have to build a little customized time ticker which ticks over after whatever delay I tell it to and writes the new value in my textArea. The problem is that the ticker is running fully until the termination time and then printing all the values. • how i can open different linux terminal to output differnt kinds of debug information in python?

  Hi All, I need output different information to different terminal instances instead of print them in same output stream, say std.err or std.out. for example: I have 5 kinds of information say A-E need to be displayed on different terminal windows on same desktop, looks like [terminal 1] <- for displaying information A [terminal 2] <- for displaying information B [terminal 3] <- for displaying information C [terminal 4] <- for displaying information D [terminal 5] <- for displaying information E I know I can output them into different files, then open terminals read the file in loop, but what I want is python program can open terminal by program itself and print to them directly when it is needed. As in even if its preemptive scheduling or round robin scheduling - the scheduler should come in to picture to do any kind of task switching. Supposing a low priority task has an infinite loop - when does the scheduler intervene and switch to a higher priority task? Query is: 1. Who calls the scheduler? [in VxWorks] 2.   I need to include multiple images in a canvas. I want to load them dynamically via a for-loop. I tried a lot but in the best case only the last image is displayed. I check this tread but I still get only the last image. • Program contains 2 nested loops which contain 4 if conditionals. How many paths?

  In Roger Pressman's book, there is an example described of a program with 2 nested loops, the inner loop enclosing four if statements. The two loops can execute up to 20 times. He states that this makes about 10^14 paths. To get a number this large, it seems the paths inside the loops are multipllied by 2^40, i.e. 2^20 times 2^20 to account for all the possibilities of going through the two loops. I can't see why this factor is not just 400, i.e. 20 times 20. Can someone shed some light? It will help if you have the ppt slides and can see the program graph. Thanks.

• Multiple return points in scala closure/anonymous function

  As far as I understand it, there is no way in Scala to have multiple return points in an anonymous function, i.e. someList.map((i) => { if (i%2 == 0) return i // the early return allows me to avoid the else clause doMoreStuffAndReturnSomething(i) }) raises an error: return outside method definition. (And if it weren’t to raise that, the code would not work as I’d like it to work.) One workaround I could thing of would be the following someList.map({ def f(i: Int):Int = { if (i%2 == 0) return i doMoreStuffAndReturnSomething(i) } f }) however, I’d like to know if there is another ‘accepted’ way of doing this. Maybe a possibility to go without a name for the inner function? (A use case would be to emulate some valued continue construct inside the loop.)

• WordPress query posts into two Divs

  I want to display my wordpress posts in a category in two divs. So for example: <div id="left"> POST 1 POST 3 POST 5 POST 7 </div> <div id="right" POST 2 POST 4 POST 6 POST 8 </div> So want I need to do is tell the query_posts to somehow start spitting out the first 4 posts oddly and then evenly for each div. I don't want to have two seperate WP_Queries as this is a category.php file and needs to have the default loop. Not quite sure how to do this. Any help much appreciated.

• keeping xmphp bot always online

  I created a simple xmpp bot in PHP which connects to google talk server. I basically modified the cli_longrun example. When I run the script in browser the bot comes online and stays online for a while even after I close the tab on which the script was running (as it is just an infinite loop listening for events on the stream). But after a while the bot becomes offline. The question is how do I keep the bot always online. One way I can think of is to run a cron that would disconnect the earlier one and start a new session. But is there a better approch?

Is using .Include to include all the users, and going through the UsersReference the best way to loop through all the users that are associated with the role? I noticed I could not do a foreach(User user in role.Users) but UsersReference seem to work, but is that how it's supposed to be done? I'm sing Zend framework, and sending an array from the controller: $this->view->googleArray = $viewFeedArray; In the view, I have a foreach loop that is populating a table with the array contents. <?php foreach($this->googleArray as $row) { ?> <tr> <td><?php echo $row['when']; ?></td> ... ... </tr> <?php } ?> It all works fine. • WindowsForms difference to simple Console App

  I currently started to "port" my console projects to WinForms, but it seems I am badly failing doing that. I am simply used to a console structure: I got my classes interacting with each other depending on the input coming from the console. A simple flow: Input -> ProcessInput -> Execute -> Output -> wait for input Now I got this big Form1.cs (etc.) and the "Application.Run(Form1);" But I really got no clue how my classes can interact with the form and create a flow like I described above. I mean, I just have these "...._Click(object sender....)" for each "item" inside the form. Now I do not know where to place / start my flow / loop, and how my classes can interact with the form.

• Where to start when programming process synchronization algorithms like clone/fork, semaphores

  I am writing a program that simulates process synchronization. I am trying to implement the fork and semaphore techniques in C++, but am having trouble starting off. Do I just create a process and send it to fork from the very beginning? Is the program just going to be one infinite loop that goes back and forth between parent/child processes? And how do you create the idea of 'shared memory' in C++, explicit memory address or just some global variable? I just need to get the overall structure/idea of the flow of the program. Any references would be appreciated.

• How do I stall until a SharePoint List Item is Deleted with SPLongOperation?

  I have a workflow, which creates a task and deletes it after the task is edited and its useful information acquired. I created a custom edit form for the task, so I have an SPLongOperation that I can use to stall the page. This is necessary, because if I don't stall the page in some fashion, the person will see the task in the task list for the minute moment before the workflow gets to delete the task, and that is bad. So some code to stall the page until the task is fully deleted is necessary. I have currently implemented a solution for this, but I am unsatisfied with the approach. It basically is summed up to a while loop that calls SPList.GetItemById until it throws an error. Delibrately attempting to cause an error doesn't sit well with me, but I cannot think of a faster method for checking this. I'm looking for alternatives that would preferably work faster if not as fast, and preferably without relying on catching exceptions. Thank you in advance!

  Hello: I would like to do an interesting project for a computer graphics course. I know that there is a lot of literature out there (i.e. SIGGRAPH conference papers). I have a very large range of interest with regard to computer graphics (i.e. image processing, 3D modeling, rendering, animation). However, I've only taken computer vision/graphics for 2 semesters and thus don't have too much background experience, except for the class projects that I had to do. I've been looking through SIGGRAPH papers trying to see if there is anything that will be of interest to me but the literature is extremely vast. I was wondering if anyone has any topic suggestions, anything interesting that you ran across that you could recommend. I would prefer to do something fun yet slightly challenging (not really interested in making a shooter game). • How to differentiate between scrollbar click events and scrollbar drag events?

  I need to scroll an EXT-GWT grid by some custom amount instead of the default 1-2 rows. Since I couldn't find any parameter that let me do this, I overrode the event handler to capture scroll or mousewheel events. On any such event, I just programmatically move the scroller further by the required amount in the same direction, keeping a flag to ensure that it doesn't go into an infinite loop. However, this technique fails when the user scrolls the grid with the scroller. Specifically, when I drag the scroller from some position to the top of the scroll track, the rows displayed in the grid are not the topmost rows in the grid but some rows further down. I figured that if I could differentiate between the events generated by the scroll-up and scroll-down buttons and those generated by scroller drag, I could handle them separately and rectify the issue. Any way this could be done? Or is there a way to specify the amount by which a scrollbar should scroll in one step? Thanks -Sameer
