• What's the current best practice for C multithreading?

  I've been a Java (and PHP) developer for most of my life, but will need to use C for my next project. I remember some basic stuff we did back in school with fork, pthread, semaphores, etc. but I'm not sure if that's still the "way to go" here, or if there have been any recent developments/improvements etc. Google's results seem to be fairly dated. Or does that just mean that this is still the current "state of the art"? Or will I have to use a (system-independent) libary like glib if I want higher-level abstractions, like synchronized queues? What other libraries are there? (The programm will only have to run on Linux though)

  I've installed ubuntu 13.04 onto my hp 2231tx computer. During installation all of my data was erased. I didn't know all of my three partitions would be deleted. I was shocked after finding out that all of my personal data was erased. I didn't know what to do to resolve this problem so I search google for an answer. I found a program called testdisk and I used it to recover about half of my data. Among this data weren't my personal photos and videos. Is there a way to recover the other half?

  I am developing a web blog using ASP.NET, but I guess that the tech details like this, here, is not important. My aim is to insert in every post I create those nice buttons to the social networks account of my visitors so that they can quote or post the link to the blog entry in their space. • SEO disasters moving domain for a high traffic website?

  We're looking at moving our website from http://www.wikijob.co.uk to http://www.wikijob.com/uk as we spread our wings internationally. Our .co.uk website has a PR6 and received around 1/2 million visitors a month, 40% international. The wikijob.com domain, while registered for a while, has not been used nor promoted. I am concerned that moving domain could really haemorrhage our traffic and result in a loss of goodwill from Google, even if we use a 301, but equally, if we could transfer that pagerank to the .com domain, that would give us a massive head start around the world. Should we do it, or should we start over with .com and leave .co.uk as is?

  We are doing our school project with Unity3d, since they were using Shiva the previous year (which seems horrible to me), and I wanted to know your point of view for this tool. Pros: multi platform, I even heard Google is going to implement it in Chrome everything you need is here scripting languages makes it a good choice for people who are not programming gurus Cons: multiplayer ? proprietary, you are totally dependent of unity and its limit and can't extend it it's less "making a game from scratch" C++ would have been a cool thing I really think this kind of tool is interesting, but is it worth it to use at school for a project that involves more than 3 programming persons ? What do we really learn in term of programming from using this kind of tool (I'm ok with python and js, but I hate C#) ? We could have use Ogre instead, even if we were learning direct x starting january...

At this point apt-get hang. Does somebody know a way to fix this? Some days ago a line in source.list was removed (Google Chrome).

  I'm trying to add product_type to my Magento Google Base output based on the product's categories, but I seem to be unable to. I have the following code: // Get categories from product to include as product_type $categoryIds = $object->getCategoryIds(); foreach($categoryIds as $categoryId) { $category = Mage::getModel('catalog/category')->load($categoryId); $this->_setAttribute('product_type', $category->getName(), 'text' ); } The issue is that it returns all of the categories, not just the ones the product is in. • One to many problem with implementing 301 redirect after changed urls

  I have a problem. I had an old dynamic url which I have now split into multiple static urls. e.g. www.mydomain.com/product.php?type=1&id=2 www.mydomain.com/product.php?type=2&id=3 www.mydomain.com/product.php?type=2&id=4, etc which I have changed to something like www.mydomain.com/electronics/radio www.mydomain.com/electronics/television www.mydomain.com/mobile/smartphone, etc. Google has previously indexed the dynamic urls and search results show the old urls. I want search to point to the new urls. I have kept the old url active, so both urls work. How can I set up a 301 redirect in this case? I run IIS and it only allows a page to be redirected to 1 url. Should I deactivate the old dynamic url? In that case I lose all the previous seo rankings..

  I have a Linksys WUSB600N v1 Dual-Band Wireless-N Network Adapter Ralink RT2870 USB dongle that worked flawlessly in 11.10. Since upgrading, I can't keep a connection for more than five minutes. The wild world of Google was unable to provide a solution, and I would rather not downgrade although that remains a possibility. CONTROL-D will terminate this shell and retry. myusername@root:~$ After searching in google,i found out that i have to run the command fsck on the OS partition from ubuntu Live CD.. Here are my questions: 1) I dont know in which partition my ubuntu OS is installed..(Those are not user-friendly drive names to remember right :)) -- Is there any command to know in which partition my ubuntu os is installed? 2) Can i do this from Ubuntu 10.04 live CD?   I want to install Java to my server so I can use PHP shell_exec to compile Java online. So I'm trying to install Java on my webserver (Ubuntu - Parallels Plesk). I logged in to the server with PuTTY and tried some commands like: sudo apt-get install openjdk-6-jre or sudo apt-get install oracle-java7-installer But than I get error's like: Package drweb-bases must be reinstalled, but there can be no archive found. I tried to uninstall drweb-bases, reinstall, no matter what. I still get that error. What you I need to do? I am doing it completly wrong? Am I not destroying my webserver? There is not much to find on this topic on Google.

• Can I include a robots meta tag outside of the head in HTML snippets indeded to be SSIed?

  I have a number of files in my site which are not intended for independent viewing, but rather to be AJAXed into content within the site. They obviously don't meet HTML standards (no body, head, etc.) as independent entities. I would like to prevent search engines from indexing these pages, but do not have access to /robots.txt (which would be much more ideal). My question is, could I include the following at the top of these partial HTML files and get the desired results? <meta name="robots" content="noindex, noarchive"> I guess there are two parts to this question. Will this cause any rendering issues in any browsers? Will search engines (at least Google & Bing) interpret this as intended?

However there is no longer a link that says "Crawl my site". So as of now, does anyone know how to get site indexed by alexa so that my traffic rank will display on alexa index?

• How to ramp up my data structures skills after a long hibernation

  I was pretty good with algorithms and data structures once, a long long time ago. Since then, I programmed professionally, and then went to manage a small team, which totally shot my tech skills in this field back. I've decided I want to be a developer again, and work for Google. The thing is, I'm so out of practice, that if I were to be interviewed right now I would surely flunk out in 10 minutes. What training program would you recommend for me to get back into shape? I already started this weekend by going back to the absolute basics and implementing a few sort algorithms, linked list, and hash table. Next, I think I'll read through the entire course material on the other basic data structures and graph algorithms. I want to find a focused set of practical exercises I can do in a relatively short amount of time, to juggle the old brain cells. I know this stuff - I just need to remind myself that I know it.

However, I'm trying to have desktop applications for multiple users start when the computer reboots/starts. Some apps I'm aiming for are Google Music Manager, remote desktop server for each session, etc. How can I either have multiple user sessions launch on boot to get these apps going -or- have them launch some other way for those users? Right now I have my primary user automatically login to start its session and related apps...

I have a list of standard ping services for WP blogs - but I do not know if this should be literally only for blogs. • Safely dual-boot XP and Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop?

  My netbook Acer AOD255 has three primary partitions in it by default - PQSERVICE/recovery (NTFS), Android x86 1.6 (FAT32), and the main WinXP Home SP3 (pre-installed, dual-booted with Android from inside WinXP). I was able to resize all three partitions to give 9GB of unallocated space for a future Ubuntu installation, which can already be booted from a pendrive. Here's my problems: 1.) I don't know how to install Ubuntu on that 9GB space (even if I create an unformatted partition for it) 2.) I currently have no means of reinstalling my XP, or backing-up any data (so I don't want to accidentally wipe out my whole HDD at all) 3.) I want XP and Ubuntu to be dual-booted thru a boot manager like GRUB or something more practical (but google searches confuse me) 4.) When I boot to try Ubuntu, GParted displays my whole drive as unallocated space. It also says "can't have overlapping partitions" or something.

• Exporting UV coords from Blender

  So I have searched on google and various other websites but I've not found an answer. The only ones I did find did not work. So my question is how do I get UV coords from blender (2.63)? Currently I'm writing my own custom file exporter, and so far have managed to export vertices and their normals. Is there a way to export the UV coords? N.B. I'm currently try to figure it out using a simple cube that is unwrapped and has a texture applied to it.
