• dabbledb + iPhone

  I have been using DabbbleDB online database for storing/retrieving values for one of my iPhone applications. I am using their JSON response for retrieving the records. The problem that I am facing is that if there are a large number of records in the database, it takes a long time to get the response from the server and then to parse the JSON response. Instead I would like to to get a set of records at a time and run a loop to fetch all the records in background. I do not know whether we can query for a set of records at a time from online databases like DabbleDB. Anybody having an idea, please help.

• MySQL UPDATE WHERE IN for each listed value separately?

  Hi, I've got the following type of SQL: UPDATE photo AS f LEFT JOIN car AS c ON f.car_id=c.car_id SET f.photo_status=1 , c.photo_count=c.photo_count+1 WHERE f.photo_id IN ($ids) Basically, two tables (car & photo) are related. The list in $ids contains unique photo ids, such as (34, 87, 98, 12). With the query, I'm setting the status of each photo in that list to "1" in the photo table and simultaneously incrementing the photo count in the car table for the car at hand. It works but there's one snag: Because the list can contain multiple photo ids that relate to the same car, the photo count only ever gets incremented once. If the list had 10 photos associated with the same car, photo_count would become 1 .... whereas I'd like to increment it to 10. Is there a way to make the incrementation occur for each photo individually through the join, as opposed to MySQL overthinking it for me? I hope the above makes sense. Thanks.

  Standard AJAX query with jQuery: var globalTitle = ""; var pages = ["a", "b", "c"]; for (var i = 0; i < pages.length; i++) { createpage(pages[i]); } function createpage(title) { globalTitle=title; console.log (globalTitle); //All looks good here $.ajax({ url: "createpage.php?id=" + title, context: document.body, success: success }); } The success() function uses globaltitle which is why I had to declare it global. In the success() function though console.log (globalTitle); constantly gives me "a". It's like the variable is assigned but is then cached every time success() is called. Happens in FF 4 and Chrome 8. Any thoughts?

• Steps to take for figuring out the delay when calling service and loading data with the result?

  Hello, In a client server app, where client front end is done in silverlight using C# and the services are the WCF services. If I am to hit the service and do a query and bring back a result and I notice that it is taking a relatively long time to load my page which is just loading the grid with the data, what things should I look at fix this issue or how would I fix this issue? What steps could I take to determine the problem? where is the bottle-neck, can anyone know from the little information provided here? Does this have anything to do with serialization? Any insight on what could be causing this delay? My service calls are made async. I hope this question makes sense :) Thanks

• Possibly simple PHP/MYSQL issue with retrieving and showing data

  I have been racking my brains over this for a while now. Here is the data i have in the sql data base as an example: ID | TYPE | DATA 1 | TXT | TEST 2 | PHP | php 3 | JS | JAVASCRIPT That is just an example, there are multiple listing for TXT, PHP and JS throughout the table. What I want to do is retrive all the data and display it all into separate drop down/select boxes. Meaning, select box one would list all data with type TXT, select box two would list all data with type PHP and select box 3 would list all data with type JS. The only way I have came about doing this is doing individual sql queries for each different type. I know there is a way to do it all in 1 query and then display it the way I want to but I just can't seem to figure out how and I know its going to drive me nuts when someone helps and I see just how they did it. Modify the previous query to show all students, even if they have not registered for a class. You should have 14 rows. Students who are not registered will show NULL in output. I know this requires outer join of some sort but I'm not fully grasping these joins i've read multiple posts on here and other sites but can't seem figure it out.

  Lets say I have such a table: id|time|operation 1 2 read 2 5 write 3 3 read 4 7 read 5 2 save 6 1 open and now I would like to do two things: Divide all these records into two groups: 1) all rows where operation equals to "read" 2) all other rows. Sum the time in each group. So that my query would result only into two rows. What I got so far is: select sum(time) as total_time, operation group by operation ; Although that gives me many groups, depending on the number of distinct operations. How I could group them only into two categories? Cheers!

  I'm new to both Django and Google App Engine, and am using a sandbox in OSX10.6 with the GoogleAppEngineLauncher. I've got a basic "bookstore" application running from the tutorial in the OReilly "Programming Google App Engine" book. Here's the bug: If I add a new object to the datastore through the web interface, then it's readable through the web interface, but does not appear to exist if I query the datastore through the shell. Vice versa: If I add an object in the shell, then I can read it from the shell, but it doesn't appear in the web interface. Any thoughts or theories would be welcome. Thanks! =T=

  Can anyone please tell me why does the following statement inside a given stored procedure returns repeated results even with locks on the rows used by the first SELECT statement? I thought that locks were in place for the whole transaction, and so I wasn't expecting the query to return repeated results. Why is this happening?

  A number of team members update a central ASP.NET dev site (Website project, not a Web application type). Some kinds of changes cause a recompile/rebuild in it. The large website takes a while to recompile and we've noticed it will still seemingly serve out dynamic pages before everything is internally updated. During the site's "gestation" period, our mileage varies while hitting it. Sometimes we get a correct page, sometimes an compilation error page that will eventually be served up without a compilation error, and at other times an unexpected hybrid. Is it possible to query an ASP.NET website application to see if it's currently compiling or rebuilding itself? If so I would write a status page that the team could reference when they're getting weird behaviour, so they would know to wait.

• how to sort an existing table in greasemonkey ?

  i'm writing a greasemonkey user.js for a page with a table in it. (table is 100 rows by 18 columns.) now what i want to do is to make it sortable on column. and also have it run in both chrome and firefox. all searches for answers sofar resulted in suggestions to use jquery/dojo or something alike. can i be done without any external code? after all it's just a matter of replacing the row's in a different order, right? or is that a silly thing to say? the thing is that i'm already using dojo for some query needs but since i want it to run in both firefox and chrome, i just copy paste the whole dojo thing in my script.. also, most of the solutions i found sofar seem to be more for use when building a table. not for altering an existing one. any help is appreciated.

  Been searching for an answer to this for the better part of an hour without much luck. I have two regional tables laid out with the same column names and I can put out a result list for either table based on the following query (swap Table2 for Table1): SELECT Table1.YEAR, FORMAT(COUNT(Table1.id),0) AS Total FROM Table1 WHERE Table1.variable='Y' GROUP BY Table1.YEAR Ideally I'd like to get a result that gives me a total sum of the counts by year, so instead of: | REGION 1 | | REGION 2 | | YEAR | Total | | YEAR | Total | | 2010 | 5 | | 2010 | 1 | | 2009 | 2 | | 2009 | 3 | | | | | 2008 | 4 | I'd have: | MERGED | | YEAR | Total | | 2010 | 6 | | 2009 | 5 | | 2008 | 4 | I've tried a variety of JOINs and other ideas but I think I'm caught up on the SUM and COUNT issue. • How to insert large files in mysql database using php? [closed]

  Hi! I want to upload a large file of size 10M max to my mysql database. Using .htaccess i changed the PHP's own file upload limit to "10485760" = 10M, i am able to upload files upto 10M size without any problem. But i can not insert the file in database if it is more that 1M in size. i am using file_get_contents to read all file data and pass it to the insert query as a string to be inserted into a LONGBLOB field. But files with more than 1M size is not being added to database, though i can use print_r($_FILES) to examine that the file uploaded correctly. Any help will be appreciated and i will need it within next 6 hours. Is what I'm trying to achieve possible with SQLAlchemy? Is there a better way to structure the database to get the same behaviour of "dynamic columns"?

  I need to take the following query and pull the total order counts and sum of the orders grouped by day. I'm storing everything using timestamps. SELECT COUNT(id) as order_count, SUM(price + shipping_price) as order_sum, DAY(FROM_UNIXTIME(created)) as day FROM `order` WHERE '.implode(' AND ', $where).' I need to group by DAY but when I do for this past weekend's sales it takes my order_count and makes it 1 instead of 3. How can I pull the above values grouped by day? NOTE: The implode is used ONLY to define the time period (WHERE created = TIMESTAMP AND <= TIMESTAMP)

  I was trying to implement the Ajax method for deploying dependent drop down select boxes inside Joomla. The Problem is that if you call an ajaxRequest to run a php with the query that populates the second drop down depending on the result of the first, this is out of the joomla framework and you can't use anything from the joomla functions. So I need to copy into the new file all the details of my dbase login + to write down the html+php to populate the options. I was thinking whether there is an easier solution to this problem. Maybe the Joomla framework supports something like this. Any ideas?

• How do (or can I) hack a gem temporarily while looking for a bug?

  I have a gem installed in my home directory on a laptop (eg not THE server). I have installed ruby 1.9.1 and also some other gems, notably right_aws - which allows access to s3, etc with ruby. All works, except there is a bug when I do a query on SimpleDB, and the returned list of items includes an item with any two byte utf-8 character in its itemName(). So I look through the sources of the right_aws gem installed on my machine, and I can see some places where I would like to test a fix. If I edit the file, save changes, (needing a password), then restart the server (script/server), it ignores my changes. I am quite new at ruby - do you have to 'compile' or other similar move to get the source code changes made take effect? I can see the edited file is changed by viewing it in terminal, etc.

• How to hide URL from users when submitting this form?

  I have a form with many many fields... When submitting these fields, I use the POST method which hides the actual variables passed along to the PHP page. However, I can't get rid of the complete link. Changing from GET to POST did make all the form fields invisible in the URL, but this part is still visible: mydomain.com/bin/query# I want it to be invisible, or say: mydomain.com/search I have mod_rewrite enabled so there is a possibility to do this with mod_rewrite I think, but I am new to mod_rewrite so I need your help... How should I hide this URL? If you need more input let me know...

  In my organization, we are just beginning to use the Entity Framework for some applications. In the past, we have pushed developers to utilize stored procedures for all database access. In addition to helping with SQL injection, we tried to grant logins access to stored procedures only to keep security relatively tight. Although inserting, updating, and deleting are easily done through stored procedures in the EF, it appears to be difficult to use stored procedures to query data with EF. However, using LINQ or Entity SQL and allowing EF to create the queries means giving a user read access to the entire database. How have others handled this dilemma?
