  • Start FF with plugins disabled.

    - by justSteve
Strange problem. Opened FF 3.6.3 after a re-boot and my last opened tabs appeared but none of the page or menu elements would respond to a click. No error messages...just locked up. Started FF with a different profile and it works normally. Next i used FEBE to restore a backup of my working profile and, after the restore, it's doing the same thing - locked out. No newly installed plugins but since a brand new profile works while a restored one doesn't it kinda points to a problematic plug-in. Is there any way to start FF with all plugins disabled? thx

  • Browser extension (or other software) to delay page load

    - by Doug Harris
The alt text to today's comic at xkcd.com (strip below) says: After years of trying, I broke this habit in a day by decoupling the action and the neurological reward. I set up a simple 30-second delay I had to wait through, in which I couldn't do anything else, before any new page or chat client would load (and only allowed one to run at once). The urge to check all those sites magically vanished--and my 'productive' computer use was unaffected. (bold is my emphasis) Does anybody know of a browser extension or other software that will add this sort of delay? I've seen extensions which simply block sites, but not a delay like this.

  • Is there a work around for the broken IE Tab in Firefox 3.6?

    - by Nathan Fellman
My Firefox upgraded itself automatically to version 3.6, and I found that IE tab is broken there. Apparently IE tab is known to be broken in this version. Are there any known workarounds such as these? a different plugin with the same functionality a way to tell FF to behave in some legacy or compatibility mode for certain plugins a new version of IE tab In the meanwhile I'm glad that Chrome's current release supports plugins, and IE tab works there.

  • Looking for a tool to expand shortened urls

    - by Rich Seller
The interwebs seem to be infested with shortened urls (Twitter I'm looking at you). I'm always reluctant to click these as it is a leap into the unknown. Are there any browser plugins or Greasemonkey scripts that will auto-expand the shortened URL or give me a tooltip with the resolved target? I've seen LongUrl.org, which has an API I could use to roll my own, but I'd like to avoid the effort if this is a solved problem.

  • showing hiding toolbars with shortcuts in firefox

    - by Edwinistrator
    I'm a webdeveloper and using firefox with the bookmarks toolbar, the webdeveloper toolbar and the google toolbar. Are there shortcuts in firefox 3.5 to hide and show these toolbars. If not, may be an add on wich works in 3.5 to create a small script to hide these toolbars, bind with a shortcut? I found keyconfig addon but won't work in 3.5. I also found this script what sounds great. Anyone knows how to get it working? http://superuser.com/questions/77206/shortcut-key-for-bookmar-toolbar-in-firefox var toolbar = document.getElementById("PersonalToolbar"); toolbar.collapsed = !toolbar.collapsed; document.persist(toolbar.id, "collapsed");

  • How to open Firefox's "organize bookmarks" from Vimperator?

    - by Igor Popov
Before using Vimperator, I used Xmarks for organizing and synchronizing bookmarks between computers. Now I installed Vimperator and I can only bookmark a page from command mode with :bmark. How can I open Organize Bookmarks with Vimperator? Besides disabling Vimperator and choosing it from the menu what else can I do? Before, I had CTRL + SHIFT + b to open the organizer. Now, in Vimperator, this shortcut doesn't work anymore, even after temporarily disabling Vimperator with CTRL + z. EDIT After setting the main menu visible (with :set go+=m thanks to Hamish Downer), I saw the shortcut for opening the organize bookmarks dialog (CTRL + SHIFT + o). I recently switched to Ubuntu Linux and in this version of Firefox some keyboard shortcuts are different then in Windows (including the shortcut for opening organize bookmarks). Sorry for my ignorance.

  • Safari Plugin/Extension Sites?

    - by Kaji
Useful as it was when I was running Tiger, the number of broken links and general lack of information on what's compatible with version 4.0+, I've decided it's time to give up on PimpMySafari.com and look elsewhere. Can anyone recommend a similar site that actually keeps its content up-to-date?

    - by Michelle

I've found two methods: 1. The StackOverflow Method Create a new local html file with just the links eg <a href="http://podcast.cbc.ca/mp3/sundayeditionstream_20081125_9524.mp3">Sunday Edition 25Nov2008</a> Open the file in the browser, right click the link and File Save Link As. 2. The SuperUser Method Install the Firefox addin Iget. (Be sure to use the right version for your Firefox version.) Tools Downloads Enter url in field. Are there any other ways?

  • My BrowserHelperObject is detected by avg as a malware, what is going wrong.

    - by BHOdevelopper
Hi i'm building a BrowserHelperObject in c++ for Internet Explorer 8. It is a friendly add-on that gives you fonctionalities in a sidebar. The thing is that when you download the add-on executable from the web, AVG (AntiVirusGuard) detects the executable file as a malware. I did a lot of research and i can't find a way to not being seen as a bad malware. I know that BrowserHelperObject are often seen as malware, but mine is just a good and friendly add-on. Does anyone as info on how antivirus detection works and what can i do to prevent being seen as a malware. What has to be done to the BHO to pass avg detection ? Thank you.

  • Lazarus Form Recovery for Safari?

    - by Cawas
I use Lazarus a lot on Chrome and FireFox. Well, not a lot, but it's great for crashing when you're writing something online in a form that doesn't automatically save what you're writing. Plus, this should be default in every browser ANYway, and not built-in any web site (such as gmail). So, is there any such option for Safari? Does Saft do that? Just by looking at the home page, it seems to me like bloatware to Safari 4.

  • Firefox addin to "dim" a page

    - by Sean
Hi, this is simple - I have a page opened all the time in FF, and don't want others passing by to see immediately the page. Is there a plugin that would allow to "dim" the page, unless you over it with a mouse or set focus on window? The idea is similar to laptops screen dimming. Thanks.

  • How can I update Firefox add-ons automatically?

    - by Maelstrom
Similar to this question, is it possible to update installed plugins via the command line? I'm running YSlow with beacon reporting as a nightly cron job under OSX: /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -no-remote -P YSlow http://www.example.com/ & PID=$! sleep 300 kill $PID This dumps FF into the background and grabs the PID, waits 300 seconds (for the page to load) then kills it. If there is an update pending, the browser "hangs" waiting for a confirmation. If I do click on the "install updates" link, everything works and then Firefox launches a new process - the $! returned by the shell is no longer valid. Can I update a plugin from the command line without confirmation? Can I curl the XPI into a file and install it without confirmation?
