  • mod_usertrack with X-Forwarded-For (proxy) IPs, apache 2.2

    I'm using apache 2.2 with mod_usertrack, behind a reverse proxy (load balancer). Now, the proxy disguises the client's real IP addresses (keeps them in the X-Forwarded-For header), and forwards the request along. mod_usertrack uses the clients' IP (along with some noise) to generate a GUID for each client. However, because of the proxy, it only sees a single IP and the generated GUIDs for each client are very similar (even with some possible collisions). I would like to upgrade apache to version 2.4, but it seems to be somewhat of a project. I did manage to compile it using this post and a few others, only to discover the folder structure does not resemble the one I had before (default ubuntu). I'm weary of tweaking it myself ... and I will be making my life miserable if I want to upgrade the server later on. So ... what are my options? Is there a good unofficial repository that packages apache 2.4 for Oneiric? (please provide a short 'how to', I'm not great in installing packages) Is there an alternative route to solve this? (Upgrading just the user_track module? Another module that works with apache 2.2?)

  • Apache no longer starts at Windows boot up

    I have Apache installed as part of XAMPP - local test server. It is configured as a Windows (XP) Service. Startup type is "Automatic". For a long time now it has always started when Windows boots up, but recently this has stopped happening. I now need to start it manually via the XAMPP Control Panel - at which point it appears to start up perfectly OK. The only recent updates to the machine (that I recall) are Windows Updates - none of which appear to have "known issues" that relate to this. And updates to Google Chrome. Any ideas what could prevent Apache from starting automatically at Windows (XP) boot up? EDIT#1 There are 2 related Errors in my system event log regarding the Service Control Manager: Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the Apache2.2 service to connect. The Apache2.2 service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. When I manually start the Apache server after boot up there are 2 "information" events stating that it was "sent a start control" and that it "entered the running state". Although I notice it appears to take 19 seconds between the start control being sent and entering a running state - according to the event log. So, maybe 30 seconds during boot up isn't long enough (anymore) for Apache to start??

  • Nginx or Apache for a VPS?

    I consider myself to be an inexperienced user/administrator when it comes to running my VPS. I can get by with a few CLI commands, I can set up Webmin and I can set up Yum repos, but beyond the very basic stuff, I'm out of my depth. So far, I'm running Apache. I don't know it particularly well, but I can get by with editing httpd.conf if I'm told what to edit. I've heard good things about Nginx and that it's not as resource-hungry as Apache. I'd like to give it a go, but I can't find any information about its suitability for administrators like me, with little experience of sysadmin or web server config. Webmin now has support for Nginx, so getting it installed and running probably won't be too much of a problem. What I'm wondering is, from a site administrator perspective, is running Nginx as transparent as running Apache? IE, at the moment, I can just throw up Wordpress and Drupal sites without having much to worry about or having to make any config changes to Apache. Would Nginx be as transparent?

They have this tutorial page http://commons.apache.org/jelly/tutorial.html If I click any link to sample code, it gives me a 404 Not Found error. I couldn't find any other tutorial.     I have inherited a LAMP server with a lot of customization. I want to enable mod_status in apache to get some monitoring of apache started. Problem is, with mod_status enabled in the httpd.conf, I am not allowed to travel to the http://"serverIP"/server-status URL because apache is redirecting me to a 'landing page'. If I type any invalid URL for the server, it redirects to this page, all error document pages have been hashed out from the httpd.conf. Any assistance to where this has may have been configured or if there is a way to override it so I can get to the url http://"serverIP"/server-status ?

  • Apache 2.4 PHP 5.4 mysql not found?

    Just tried setting up the latest Apache (2.4.1 x86 VC10 from apachelounge) and PHP (5.4 VC9 TS X86, with the php5apache2_4.dll) on my PC and ran into this weird problem; in my php.ini I have enabled all of the following: extension=php_mysql.dll extension=php_mysqli.dll extension=php_pdo_mysql.dll but when I try to print the available PDO's using this: print_r(PDO::getAvailableDrivers()); It gives me an empty array. PhpMyAdmin and MantisBT also refuse to work, saying that the mysql extension is missing. phpinfo() gives this: PDO PDO support enabled PDO drivers no value and when searching for mysql, only the mysqlnd section pops up... The DLLs are there in the D:/php/ext folder and no errors pop up when starting up Apache, as well as no errors in the Windows Event Log, and PHP itself has no error log anyway. What could possibly be the problem with this? Before this I had Apache 2.2.22 from apachelounge and PHP 5.3.9 and I had no problems. Now nothing works...

  • Selectively configuring Apache 2 mod_headers for Google Chrome Frame

    I am currently evaluating Google Chrome Frame and so far i'm happy with it, but what i'd like to do is selectively use it for certain sections of my website. Some sections require ActiveX so need to be viewed in native IE, whereas others benefit greatly, and may end up requiring, Chrome Frame. I've currently got the following configured in my apache httpd.conf file - <IfModule mod_setenvif.c> <IfModule mod_headers.c> BrowserMatch chromeframe gcf Header append X-UA-Compatible "chrome=1" env=gcf </IfModule> </IfModule> This causes anything coming in via Apache to get the chrome frame stuff added to the headers. What I need is to make this only happen when a user visits particular URL's / particular pages, which i'm currently controlling via RewriteRules. Could anybody explain how I would go about this, as my understanding of the Apache config files isn't brilliant. Thanks.

    Hi folks, we are trying to setup apache (apache 2 in this case, although apache does the same thing) and html pages display just fine, however, any php pages linked into buttons on the front page are offered for download rather than being displayed. Any ideas what we have missed? Its proving difficult to search on this in google as the terms are so heavily used elsewhere. I know this is a bit general, but we have tried adding types to the to the apache.conf (or httpd.conf for apache1) are having no joy at all. Thanks. Peter.

  • Problem Using POI To Set CellStyleProperty With HSSFCellUtil

    I have a Java class which uses Apache POI to generate reports in Excel. When I run the Java class from my IDE or command prompt, I only see warning messages from LOG4J as below: log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger (org.apache.commons.beanutils.converters.BooleanConverter). log4j:WARN Please initialize the log4j system properly. log4j:WARN See http://logging.apache.org/log4j/1.2/faq.html#noconfig for more info. Despite the warning messages, the report was generated successfully. But when I run it from my web app, which uses JSP and submits the form to a Servlet which calls the Java class, the Java class seems to have problems setting the style properties to the cell. Below are the Java code and also the stack trace. I'm testing this on a Standalone OC4J and the IDE which I'm using is Oracle's JDeveloper. And the Java JDK is 1.4.2. I've been looking high and low the whole day yesterday but can't seem to find out why.   • Uncompress OpenOffice files for better storage in version control

    I've heard discussion about how OpenOffice (ODF) files are compressed zip files of XML and other data. So making a tiny change to the file can potentially totally change the data, so delta compression doesn't work well in version control systems. I've done basic testing on an OpenOffice file, unzipping it and then rezipping it with zero compression. I used the Linux zip utility for my testing. OpenOffice will still happily open it. So I'm wondering if it's worth developing a small utility to run on ODF files each time just before I commit to version control. Any thoughts on this idea? Possible better alternatives? Secondly, what would be a good and robust way to implement this little utility? Bash shell that calls zip (probably Linux only)? Python? Any gotchas you can think of? Obviously I don't want to accidentally mangle a file, and there are several ways that could happen. Possible gotchas I can think of: Insufficient disk space Some other permissions issue that prevents writing the file or temporary files ODF document is encrypted (probably should just leave these alone; the encryption probably also causes large file changes and thus prevents efficient delta compression)

In document root /var/www/html/ I have http://serverA.com, and I create a virtual host in folder /var/www/html/serverB for http://serverB.com. They work great for both, but the problem is I can access serverB files with the URL http://serverA.com/serverB/, which I don't want to happen. How do I prevent that?

  • Creating fillable, saveable PDF in OpenOffice.org results in garbage

    I've been creating beautiful fillable PDFs using OOo Writer under Ubuntu for a few years. However, I've recently been asked to make them saveable rather than just printable. So, I go to my colleague's Windows computer which has Adobe Acrobat Professional 8, and following directions outlined in Save filled form in PDF file in Ubuntu. I end up with an unreadable, unfillable document. Acrobat Reader opens it, but it's garbage. It looks like it might be a character encoding issue. The document was created using Arial under Ubuntu. I installed OOo on the Windows box and changed the font to Tahoma. But with either font, the resulting file is a jumble of boxes and oddly placed random characters. Given that it fails with a fairly ubiquitous font, and a Microsoft specific font, I'm guessing it's not a font issue. Until I enable the rights, the PDF is readable both with Acrobat Reader and Acrobat Pro. Anyone else encounter the problem? If so, did you solve it? Thanks.

    I have a large Open Office odt document. It uses (mostly) four page styles: Left Page, Right Page, Left Chapter, and Right Chapter. The last two are custom styles that simply remove the header. But I have a problem with Chapter 4: if I try to set the style of the first page to Right Chapter, it sets the style of Chapter 3's first page! I've tried it several times, and it always does this. Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug? Or is my file corrupted?

But I don't like this way; there is a easier/better way to do this? Like a macro, or something like that. I just need to repeatedly apply page margins to my sheet.

    I have a table of values (partial) with 3 columns: month (from 1 to 12), code and value. E.g., MONTH | CODE | VALUE 1 | aaa | 111 1 | bbb | 222 1 | ccc | 333 2 | aaa | 1111 2 | ccc | 2222 The codes are clients and the values are sales volumes. Each row represents the sales for one month for one client. So I have three clients, namely aaa, bbb, and ccc. For month=1 their sales volumes are: aaa-111, bbb-222, and ccc-333. A client may or may not have sales for every month; for example, for the month 2, the client bbb has no sales. I have to construct a completed summary table for all the MONTH / CODE pairs with their corresponding VALUE (using the value from the "partial" table, if present, otherwise print a string "missing").     Cell A1 says 0001 John Smith Cell A2 says 0002 Bill Snyder I want to basically split this, so one column just shows the numbers (0001, 0002, etc.) and then another column just shows the name. The first part is easy. Using the function "=LEFT(A1;4)" I can get 0001. How can I grab the name? Using "RIGHT(A1;99)", for example, will grab the entire string "0001 John Smith". Since each name is different in length, I'm not sure what to do. Can I somehow tell it to grab the whole string EXCEPT the first 4 characters? Or somehow tell it to grab the last 2 WORDS instead of a number of characters like it's asking?
