  • Re-configure Office 2007 installation unattended: Advertised components --> Local

    On our Citrix farm, I just found out that some sub-components are "Installed on 1st Use" (Advertised), which does play well on terminal servers. Not only that, but you also get a rather non-descriptive error message, when a document tried to use a component, which is "Installed on 1st Use" (described on Plan to deploy Office 2010 in a Remote Desktop Services environment): Microsoft Office cannot run this add-in. An error occurred and this feature is no longer functioning correctly. Please contact your system administrator. I have ~50 Citrix servers where I need to change the installation state of all Advertised components to Local, so I created an XML file like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <Configuration Product="ProPlus"> <Display Level="none" CompletionNotice="no" SuppressModal="yes" AcceptEula="yes" /> <Logging Type="standard" Path="C:\InstallLogs" Template="MS Office 2007 Install on 1st Use(*).log" /> <Option Id="AccessWizards" State="Local" /> <Option Id="DeveloperWizards" State="Local" /> <Setting Id="Reboot" Value="NEVER" /> </Configuration> I run it with a command like this (using the appropriate paths): "[..]\setup.exe" /config ProPlus /config "[..]\Install1stUse-to-Forced.xml" According to the log file, the syntax appears to be accepted and the config file parsed: Parsing command line.   • Does Xenapp require Windows Terminal Services (Remote Desktop) licenses?

    We have a Xenapp 5.x server running for over a year now. It does not have any purchased Terminal Services (Remote Desktop) licenses installed. It is running on a Windows 2008 Server box. I am aware that Terminal Services runs fine for about 3 months and then supposedly stops issuing licenses. On occasion, Xenapp stops working and we see lots of License errors in the event log, although not necessarily every time. In most cases, a reboot or 2 resolves the problem. We figured it was because of the lack of TS licenses. I spoke with Citrix and they said we had to have the licenses, but it begs the question that if we have to have the licenses, how does it work the majority of the time without them!!?? I have not received a straight answer yet and before I tell my client to shell out more money, I need to understand the technical reasoning for how this is actually working if we are breaking the rules here. We will buy the licenses if necessary, but there has to be an explanation for this. I am hoping the community can help where Citrix apparently cannot. Thanks much!

And even better, when I turn on the connection again (by pressing F8), I test again the type of connection, Toast messages are shown but this time Log messages don't work. Problems happend when I press F8. Anyway, I think I miss something with broadcast receivers, it's not totally clear. Please help me.

  • Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 v2.0 not working, but paired Wireless Mouse 5000 on same receiver does?

    I have a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 v2.0 that was bought paired with a Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000. They're both Bluetooth and use the same receiver. The keyboard no longer works. The receiver is fine, as the mouse still works. The keyboard is still detected by Windows when the receiver is plugged in. The batteries have been replaced. There are no on/off switches on the keyboard or mouse, and no re-sync button on them or the receiver. Results are the same when using the receiver in a different USB port, or on a different machine. Anything else I might try to fix this, or should I hold a funeral for the keyboard?

  • Windows Server 2008 Enterprise. Incorrect password on screensaver

    First some software details: Thin client: Wyse C10LE Citrix - Windows Terminal Services - Windows Server 2008 Enterprise desktop I have a user with a very strange problem. When he locks his screen with Win+L, Windows claims he's entering wrong password when he tries to log back in. The only solution is to hard reboot the WYSE, and log back in. This reboot doesn't kill his Windows session. I've checked for errors in keyboard settings (wrong layout etc), nothing found. I suspect errors in his profile/errors in AD. No other users in the domain has this problem. EDIT: Sorry, it's NOT Win R2. Plain Windows Sever 2008

  • Facebook Connect cross-domain receiver URL (XXXXXXX) must have the application's Connect URL as pref

    I am trying to create a javascript widget which can be placed on any webpage and uses facebook connect to authenticate the user. What I have done is that,in any html file you put a javascript which has a document.write to show the widget. <script type="text/javascript" src="button.js"></script> On clicking the widget, the facecook login happens if the user is not already logged in to facebook (Single Sign On). There are no problems when I am putting the HTML file and the js file in the same directory as specified in the facebook connect URL. However, when I put the HTML file in some other folder and specify the absolute path to the js folder I get the warning "Facebook Connect cross-domain receiver URL (XXXXXXX) must have the application's Connect URL as prefix" The login however happens? How can this be resolved?

    I have a Core Data entity whose header file looks like this: @interface MyEntity : NSManagedObject { } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSNumber * index; @end And it's implementation file looks like this: @implementation MyEntity @dynamic index; @end Now, I have a piece of code that looks like this: NSArray* selectedObects = [myEntityArrayController selectedObjects]; NSUInteger theIndex = [[[selectedObects objectAtIndex:0] index] unsignedIntegerValue]; The 'myEntityArrayController' object is a NSArrayController which manages all entities of MyEntity. This code executes correctly, however XCode always gives the warning "Invalid receiver type 'NSUInteger'" for the last line of code. For some reason, XCode thinks that the index method returns a NSUInteger. I'm not sure why it thinks this, because 'objectAtIndex' returns an object of type 'id'. I've cleaned the project several times, and these warnings have hung around for a while. Any suggestions are appreciated.

    I have the following code; int days = [[SettingsUtils daysToRetainHistory] intValue]; [retainHistory setText:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"Days to retain History: %d", days]]; [daysToRetainHistory setValue:days animated:NO]; where [SettingsUtils daysToRetainHistory] is as follows; + (int) daysToRetainHistory { return (int)[[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] objectForKey:@"CaseBaseDaysToRetainHistory"]; } I get the compiler warning Invalid receiver type 'int' because I call intValue on an int but unless I do this I can't seem to get the integer value out and always end up with the memory address i.e. 98765432 instead of 9 which ruins the UILabel display [retainHistory] and the UISlider [daysToRetainHistory] value. How do I avoid the compiler warning and still get my integer value in the label and the necessary float value for setting the UISlider value?

    Hi, We've a Spring JMS message listener container for receiving messages asynchronously. Using DefaultMessageListenerContainer and in sessionTransacted mode. I understand being in sessionTransacted mode means in case of an exception the message will be put back into the queue. But how can I make sure the message won't be deleted from the queue even if the receiver (which is picked the message) crashes or just the machine running it looses power? At first I thought CLIENT_ACKNOWLEDGE acknowledge mode should save me, but apparently it's not the case, Spring calls .acknowledge() no matter what. So here's my question, how can I guarantee the delivery? Using a custom MessageListenerContainer? Using a transaction manager?

  • Implement a top level window from a broadcast receiver

    I have a broadcast receiver that listens for incoming calls, then displays a popup. The popup is a dialog type of theme and has FLAG_NOT_FOCUSABLE and FLAG_NOT_TOUCHABLE - basically, it's an informational window that goes away after x seconds, and is not meant to interfere or take focus over anything else. The issue is that the incoming call intent, built into android, is getting the broadcast after my intent. This is causing that window to be stacked in front of mine. How to I get my window to always be on top? Thanks!

  • Domain joined computer unable to access servers through VPN

    Our servers are in a virtual off site hosting center, our office has a vpn connection to the data center, but for reasons I don't understand we also have to connect to the Citrix Access Gateway (CAG) client in order to access the servers. I am a programmer with rather limited ops knowledge including a weak grasp of networking and terminology. Bear with me. I was just given a new laptop, which is a 64 bit Windows 7 system unlike my previous 32 bit Windows XP desktop which was able to connect without issue. My laptop has been joined to the domain so that I login with my AD credentials, I am able to connect to the CAG and get authenticated, and after doing this I can ping our servers and they resolve to the correct internal IP addresses, but I am unable to use remote desktop to the servers, connect to SQL servers through my local SQL Management Studio, navigate to them through the file system, or view any of our internal intranet websites. All of which I was able to do previously. I have tried turning off my Windows firewall and the problem remains, the DNS servers are set to the correct IPs of our domain controllers, and the ops guys here are a little stumped. Does any one have any suggestions?

    Hi, On servers running Suse 11 I'm experiencing hangups in sun.awt.X11GraphicsDevice.getDoubleBufferVisuals(Native Method) when connecting via Citrix (and setting DISPLAY to localhost:11.0). Running exactly the same code in exactly the same environment, excepth through Exceed (with DISPLAY set to my workstation's IP) it runs like clockwork.   • How do you initialize networking on a new Xen guest VM?

    We have a Citrix XenServer setup, and while I personally lean more towards Dev than Ops, I've got an issue that's been bugging me. When you provision a new (Linux/Ubuntu) guest, how do you get it to have the correct IP-address? I'd want my application servers to exist in the range of 10.20.0.0/24, preferably being .1, .2, etc, so I can keep my sanity. I guess that the actual IP-address is something set in Linux itself, and Xen can't touch that, but then what's the best practice for getting it done? If you set up DHCP, don't you just move the problem to getting the adapters the "correct" MAC-addresses? Do you just have to hardcode a large table of MAC-addresses to IP-addresses, and then provision new guests always with the correct MAC-address on the virtual ethernet adapter? What we currently do is have an image of a "app server" that we boot up a new instance of, and then finalize it (with a script) that (among other things) modifies the /etc/networking/interface file to give it the correct IP. But that feels dirty to me, and I feel like surely there must a better way. Please enlighten me?

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard to Enterprise Problems

    A few months ago I setup a Citrix XenApp cluster running on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition using the temporary 180 day license key. Recently the company bought a Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise DataCenter license. This means I need to upgrade the Windows edition from Standard to Enterprise. I attach the disk to the VM and start the upgrade process through XenCenter, it runs through all checks and unpacks all Windows files and seems to create a Windows Setup partition, it then reboots and trys to boot into this partition and I get a blue screen telling me to CHKDSK the hard drive with the following error message: STOP: 0x0000007B As XenApp is already setup and working I really do not want to go down the route of rebuilding this server (as I already had to do this once down to issues with XenApp). The server did have 8GB of RAM assigned to it, I have tried reducing this down to 2GB's as I read this can cause an issue. Also I can boot back into the Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard partition without any problems. UPDATE I have managed to get round the urgency by re-arming the license, giving me another 180 day trial..but would be nice to work out why this is happening!

    I'm looking for simple ways to monitor and limit the number of instances of our application under Terminal Server (2003 and 2008). The purpose of this restriction is to make sure we don't overload our servers. This is an internal administrative requirement - I am not looking for a licensing solution. The application in question is written in Python 2.6 (32-bit) but I'm happy to receive development tool agnostic answers.   • Python threading question (Working with a method that blocks forever)

    I am trying to wrap a thread around some receiving logic in python. Basically we have an app, that will have a thread in the background polling for messages, the problem I ran into is that piece that actually pulls the messages waits forever for a message. Making it impossible to terminate... I ended up wrapping the pull in another thread, but I wanted to make sure there wasn't a better way to do it. One thing I did notice was this thing eats 100% cpu while waiting for a message... **If you need to see the stopping logic please let me know and I will post.

  • WSS and CAG , _layout pages break

    Alright, I've searched everywhere and I cannot find the answer, due to the rarity of our setup. WSS 3.0/IIS 6.0/WinServer 2003 We have a sharepoint site that is in good shape, almost. Its TCP and SSL port are uncommon and need to be rerouted to work properly. This is where the Citrix Access Gateway (CAG) comes in play. It will redirect any request from URL (something.something.com) to the correct SSL port on the correct server. My AAM is configured to Default something.something.com and nothing else, since the CAG will provide the port. We use FBA, and require SSL. This works perfectly for everything that is safe or that is anything that an end user can see, but if I try to add a webpart, it errors out. Whereas if I add it internally, or bypass the CAG the webpart adds fine. The same goes for most of the _layouts pages, like _layouts/new.aspx. If I add a Link List/Doc library on the something.something.com, it errors out (Page cannot be displayed) and the page won't display, but if I try it with an internal address it will work fine. I found that if I am trying to add something or doing anything administrative, the site will navigate to the pages that I need to go to fine, but when i actually ADD something the URL will change from something.something.com to something.something.com:SSLport, thus erroring out the site. The URL with the SSL port shows on the Site URL when navigating to Site Settings. However, if I bypass the CAG, using the internal address the _layouts page works like a charm and i can add anything. All the CAG does is reroute a DNS request to the provided server and port. I've tried reextending the application, no luck same thing. I've tried changing the AAM to hide the port and the CAG rejects it. I've tried to recreate a new webapp/site collection with the same rules on the CAG, same thing occurs. Correct me if I'm wrong, and please provide me with some feedback and answers. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Is it the CAG or the Alternate Access Mappings (AAM)?

  • XenServer Converting HVM to Paravirtualised

    Recently I have been tasked with the daunting process of converting a setup of HVM enabled VMs (running on Citrix XenServer 5.6.0) into PV (paravirtualised) containers. The constraints of the project was that: The operating system must be functionally identical after the migration. minimal modification to the operating system (with exception of kernel / drive mapping) I also was allowed to change the bootloader(ie, grub) in what ever way I see fit. However, I have attempted this, I will firstly like to show you my steps I took. This at the moment is CentOS5.5 specific: Steps: yum install kernel-xen This installed: 2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen edited: /boot/grub/menu.lst changed my specs to match: title CentOS (2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen) root (hd0,0) kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 console=xvc0 initrd /initrd-2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen.img Then I changed my xenserver parameters to match: xe vm-param-set uuid=[vm uuid] PV-bootloader-args="--kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen --ramdisk /initrd-2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen.img" xe vm-param-set uuid=[vm uuid] HVM-boot-policy="" xe vm-param-set uuid=[vm uuid] PV-bootloader=pygrub xe vbd-param-set uuid==[Virtual Block Device/VBD uuid] bootable=true Some things to note, I am running a VolGroup LVM ;) Anyways, after all these steps (which aren't much!) I boot the VM and it boots initial kernel just fine, however I am presented with this error: Boot Screen: device-mapper: dm-raid45: initialized v0.2594l Waiting for driver initialization. Scanning and configuring dmraid supported devices Scanning logical volumes Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while... Activating logical volumes Volume group "VolGroup00" not found Creating root device. Mounting root filesystem. mount: could not find filesystem '/dev/root' Setting up other filesystems. Setting up new root fs setuproot: moving /dev failed: No such file or directory no fstab.sys, mounting internal defaults setuproot: error mounting /proc: No such file or directory setuproot: error mounting /sys: No such file or directory Switching to new root and running init. unmounting old /dev unmounting old /proc unmounting old /sys switchroot: mount failed: No such file or directory Now my hints are that it cannot detect / because of the fact that when you change from HVM mode to PV it does something (not that obvious) When you make a SR (storage) on a HVM, you get it mounted to the guest os as /dev/hda. However in PV mode, this presents itself as /dev/xvda... Could this be the answer? and if so, how the heck to I implement it?? Update: So I have gotten a bit further in my quest, as it now detects the LVM's... To do this, I required to recompile the xen-kernel initrd image. Command: mkinitrd -v --builtin=xen_vbd --preload=xenblk initrd-2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen.img 2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen Now when I boot I get this: Boot Screen: Loading dm-raid45.ko module device-mapper: dm-raid45: initialized v0.2594l Scanning and configuring dmraid supported devices Scanning logical volumes Reading all physical volumes. Setting up new root fs setuproot: moving /dev failed: No such file or directory no fstab.sys, mounting internal defaults setuproot: error mounting /proc: No such file or directory setuproot: error mounting /sys: No such file or directory Switching to new root and running init. unmounting old /dev unmounting old /proc unmounting old /sys switchroot: mount failed: No such file or directory Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
