  • Quarter as a Count variable in SAS.

    Hye Guys, I'm busy working on a time series and am trying to find the commands that allow me to insert a quarter count variable. To keep things simple, the third quarter of 1995 (date my observations start) should be quarter -2, the fourth quarter of 1995 should be -1 etc etc uptill 2006 (should be somewhere around 45 by then). My dates are in date9 format, such as 20JUN04 etc.. Anyone who can help me with the commands I need t o let this work in SAS? Thanks

    Hi. Suppose that I have a method called doSomething() and I want to use this method in a multithreaded application (each servlet inherits from HttpServlet).I'm wondering if it is possible that a race condition will occur in the following cases: doSomething() is not staic method and it writes values to a database. doSomething() is static method but it does not write values to a database. what I have noticed that many methods in my application may lead to a race condition or dirty read/write. for example , I have a Poll System , and for each voting operation, a certain method will change a single cell value for that poll as the following: [poll_id | poll_data ] [1 | {choice_1 : 10, choice_2 : 20}] will the JSP/Servlets app solve these issues by itself, or I have to solve all that by myself? In order to make function calls to our back-end php code we've implemented something called an ActionProxy like this: function ActionProxy(action, input, callback){ $.post("ActionProxy.php?method="+action, { data: input}, function(data, textStatus, XMLHttpRequest){ //return data.ResponseWhatever } }); The problem we're having is that using data outside the ActionProxy is impossible due to variable scope limitations (we assume), setting var res = data.ResponseWhatever or return data.ResponseWhatever is pretty futile. How would one handle these responses most appropriately so that functions calling the actionproxy can access the response values?

    I have a tricky one. By means of a <cfoutput query="…"> I list some records in the page from a SQL Server database. By the end of each line viewing I try to add this in to a record in a MySQL database. As you see is simple, because I can use the exact variables from the output query in to my new INSERT INTO statement. BUT: the rsPick.name comes from a database with a different character set and the only way to get it right into my new database is to read it from the web page and not from the value came in the output query.   • Can i make a launcher shortcut perform different actions based on a condition

    What i want to do is pretty simple to understand. I want the same launcher shortcut to act like a ON/OFF swith for eg. Like suppose i have made a launcher to start LAMPP with the command gksudo /opt/lampp/lampp start This works properly to start lampp. Now,what i want to do is,If LAMPP is not on,the launcher should execute the above command and start lampp.While if lampp is on,I want ti to execute the command gksudo /opt/lampp/lampp stop and stop lampp. I want these 2 commands to be executed by the same launcher where the command to be executed is decided on the basis of a condition(LAMPP being ON or OFF in the above example) Can i do this? and how? I guess writing a bash script and then making the launcher execute the bash script would do it.but then how do i check weather lampp is on of off?

    I ask that you ignore all logic.. i was taught poorly at first and so i still dont understand everything about static crap and its killing me. My error is with every single variable that i declare then try to use later inside my methods... i get the non-static variable cannot~~ error I can simply put all the rough coding of my methods inside my cases, and it works but then i cannot use recursion...     Hi, I wonder if anyone can help out here, I'm trying to understand how use an objects properties across multiple non class pages,but I can't seem to be able to get my head around everything i have tried so far. For example a class called person; class person { static $name; } but i have a number of different regular pages that want to utilize $name across the board. I have trying things like this; pageone.php include "person.php"; $names = new Person(); echo person::$name; names::$name='bob'; pagetwo.php include "person.php"; echo person::$name; I can work with classes to the extent I'm OK as long as I am creating new instances every page, but how can make the properties of one object available to all, like a shared variable ?     I'm teaching my self python and I was translating some sample class Student: def __init__( self, name, a,b,c ): self.name = name self.a = a self.b = b self.c = c def average(self): return ( a+b+c ) / 3.0 Which is pretty much my intended class definition Later in the main method I create an instance and call it a if __name__ == "__main__" : a = Student( "Oscar", 10, 10, 10 ) That's how I find out that the variable a declared in main is available to the method average and that to make that method work , I have to type self.a + self.b + self.c instead What's the rationale of this? I found related questions, but I don't really know if they are about the same

    Hi folks, I have a query that takes too long to respond when the search parameter happens to be a varchar datatype with date. However, if i convert varchar to datetime variable, the query runs fine. For ex: This takes too long. select count(id) from names where updateddate '1/5/2010' This runs fine. declare @dateparam datetime set @dateparam = convert(datetime, '1/5/2010',102) select count(id) from names where updateddate @dateparam What's the reason one runs fine but the other doesn't?
