  I have an external copy of Windows 7 alongside Quantal and I installed Content Manager Assistant on it. I was able to start the program successfully by finding the Executable file of the program in the program folder in Windows and run it in Wine, however Wine didn't recognize my PSVita that was connected through one of my USB ports. Is there any way to configure WINE to properly recognize the Vita? Content Manager Assistant is a Windows and Mac only program that allows you to transfer files between your PC and PSVita, kinda like iTunes for iPod.

  I use mobile broadband connection (Reliance Netconnect+ USB) for internet. I can connect to this network from Network Manager easily. There is a 3rd party software which is given by the service provider. I can also connect to the internet by using this software (Software from ZTE). But when i am using this software, i cannot upload files to Ubuntu One, Cannot install packages from Software Center, etc except i can load web pages from FireFox. But when using the connection from NM, i can do all the stuffs. But, there are so many options available in this 3rd party software. So, can i route my internet connection from this software to my Network Manager? There are some options available in the settings as;- Dns, alternate dns, static IP, CHAP, PAP. Can anyone help me?? I use 12.04.

  Ever since I upgraded to 13.10, the software updater does not show all the available updates. Some will appear and can be installed just fine, but once it claims that all software is up to date, using sudo apt-get upgrade shows that there are still more packages waiting to be updated. I can update them via the command line, but that only solves things temporarily. I'm not sure why some show up and others don't. How can I make Update Manager update all packages?   Ok, the thing is this I tried asking many times on few ubuntu forums how to deal with my non-responsive Update Manager, but all I was getting was the same stuff (run it from the terminal, run some lines, apt-get update blah blah). Nothing was helping. Eventually I went mad Windows style and tried to simply uninstall it and install it again. The problem is - how to install it again? Can't do it through Software Center, can't really build a package (because I'm too stupid to do that). And I seriously want to avoid reinstalling the whole system. I am running a 12.04 verison (Update Manager was unable to update to a newer one) Please help. I am furious with this thing.

• Network Manager troubleshooting

  I'm having some issues when connecting to my house's wifi from my Ubuntu 10.10 laptop. If the connection doesn't exists, when selecting the network (and after entering the WPA2 password) I'm able to connect. Once the connection is saved, when trying to reconnect, Network Manager works for a minute or so and then fails; the only way to reconnect then is to delete the saved connection and re-select the network from the list of available wireless networks. The same network works with no issues on the same laptop when running Win7, and on other wireless networks when running Ubuntu. Is there a Network Manager log which I can take a look at for troubleshooting the issue? Are there any tools for checking the wifi status?

• Group Policy drive maps fail with Error Code: 0x80070043

  I'm running a Server 2008 R2 domain with all Windows 7 x64 bit client machines. All drives are mapped using Group Policy. Which were previously on a NAS We just built a new, huge, fast server. So I'm in the process of migrating all the network drives from the NAS to the new fileserver(fs). The old drive maps were mapped using group policy so I just went in and updated to the new server and selected the "Replace" option. But the drives just plain do not map. I do an RSOP on my machine and the error for the drive map is: Result: Failure (Error Code: 0x80070043) The other odd thing, though it may or may not have anything to do with it, is that the winning GPO shown is shown with its SID instead of its name. The SID is correct though. Accessing the shares through Explorer works fine, and mapping them manually works fine. Any ideas? Thanks Chris

• Setting Proxy Server for IE 10 on Windows 8 using pac file and Group Policy

  We currently use group policy to configure a proxy server PAC file for Windows XP and Windows 7 computers on our network. We now are starting to get requests for Windows 8, but have noticed that our current GPO does not work for setting the proxy server on Windows 8 clients or server 2012. Is it possible to do this using a 2008 R2 domain controller or would we need to update our domain to a 2012 server? I found a reference to creating new GPO settings for "Internet Explorer 10 and 11" and vague references to using RSAT on Windows 8 to set IE 10 settings via preferences, but nothing that talks about using group policy to manage proxy settings.

• Windows Service and Group Policy unable to access network share on Win2008 Domain

  I have one computer on my domain that has suddenly stopped receiving software updates via group policy. Domain logins still work, and group policy on the machine is still being updated, so it knows that there are new packages to install and where to look for them, but every time it tries to install a package, it throws a 1622 error (location not found). Logged in users can reach the same network shares, and every other computer on network is installing the packages. Further investigation found that other services running as "System" on the problematic computer are also unable to authenticate to network shares. How do I diagnose/fix this computer's account in Active Directory? The computer account exists, and is a member of "Domain Computers" - or is there something else I should be looking at?

  What is the proper procedure for distributing software updates using group policy's software installation feature? For example, if I want to install Java, and Java 1.7u6 is already added as a package, should I: A) Remove the Java 1.7u6 package (selecting the "allow users to continue to use" option), and add Java 1.7u7? B) Add Java 1.7u7 and specify that it is an update to the existing 1.7u6 package? (Will this install the oldest version first, then install each update one after the other, or will it just install the latest package?) Note that this question is geared toward the operation of the software installation feature of group policy, not specifically the behavior of the Java installers. This could easily apply to the installation of Adobe Flash, Adobe Reader, or any other common software applications with frequent updates.

  People refer to policies and procedures with a variety of expressions including business process documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), department operating procedures (DOPs), work instructions, specifications, and so on. For our purpose here, policies and procedures mean a set of documents that describe an organization's policies (rules) for operation and the procedures (containing tasks performed by individuals) to fulfill the policies. When an organization documents policies and procedures properly, they can be the strategic link between an organization's vision and its daily operations. Policies and procedures are often necessary because of some external requirement, such as environmental compliance or other governmental regulations. One example of an external requirement would be the American Sarbanes-Oxley Act, requiring full openness in accounting practices. Here are a few other examples of business issues that necessitate writing policies and procedures: Operational needs -- policies and procedures ensure fundamental processes are performed in a consistent way that meets the organization's needs. Risk management -- policies and procedures are identified by the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO) as a control activity needed to manage risk. Continuous improvement -- Procedures can improve processes by building important internal communication practices. Compliance -- Well-defined and documented processes (i.e. procedures, training materials) along with records that demonstrate process capability can demonstrate an effective internal control system compliant with regulations and standards. In addition to helping with the above business issues, policies and procedures can support the basic needs of employees and management. Well documented and easy to access policies and procedures: allow employees to understand their roles and responsibilities within predefined limits and to stay on the accepted path indentified by the organization's management provide clarity to the reader when dealing with accountability issues or activities that are of critical importance allow management to guide operations without constant intervention allow managers to control events in advance and prevent employees from making costly mistakes Can you think of another way organizations can meet the above needs of management and their employees in place of documented Policies and Procedures?   So I have a Surface RT (running Windows RT 8.1), and I have some Word documents with links in them. The thing is, they don't work. When I try to activate one, this happens instead: It's kind of annoying. This is a personal device, so I am the organisation - and after much spelunking and web-searching, I still can't find the relevant policy, which means I can't change it. Is it talking about Group Policy or something else entirely? Is this a[nother] Windows RT limitation, or some obscure switch I haven't found yet, or...?
