  • Visual Studio search feature does not seem to be searching for text in CSS files [migrated]

    - by aspdotnetuser
I noticed that when using Visual Studio's 'Find in files' search feature, it does not appear to search/find text in CSS files even though the text does exist. I can't find anything on the net regarding this issue and cannot determine even if Visual Studio allows you to search for text within CSS files. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this; Is it supposed to allow you to do this? If so, what reasons would explain why this is not working?

  • My favourite feature of SQL 2008 R2

    - by Rob Farley
Interestingly, my favourite new feature of SQL Server 2008 R2 isn’t any of the obvious things.  You may have read my recent posts about how much I like some of the new Reporting Services features, such as the map control. Or you may have seen my presentation at SQLBits V on StreamInsight, which I think has great potential to change the way many applications handle data (by allowing easier querying of data before it even reaches the database). Next week the Adelaide SQL Server User Group has...(read more)

  • SEO best practices for a web feature that uses geolocation by IP Address

    - by Nick
I'm working on a feature that tailors content based on a geo location lookup by IP address in order to provide information based on the general area where this visitor is from. I'm concerned that content will be interpreted as focused solely on the search engine spider's geo origin when it is indexed. Are there SEO best practices for geo location by ip address features? I appreciate any specific tips or words of wisdom.

Question Please explain Feature Driven Development in a nutshell? Situation My Business Analyst calls their documentation FDD, but it just seems overwhelmed by details. In a Nutshell An 'in a nutshell' example would be good, since I'm trying to reduce unnecessary detail and confusion. I want to add clarity, and an Occam's' razor approach to the documentation. • The incomplete list of impolite WP7 dev requests

In my previous list of WP7 user requests, I piled all of my user hopes and dreams for my new WP7 phone (delivery date: who the hell knows) onto the universe as a way to make good things happen. And all that’s fine, but I’m not just a user; like most of my readers, I’m also a developer and have a need to control my phone with code. • Bingbot requests from Google IP address

    - by JITHIN JOSE
    We have some suspicious requests to our server, 74.125.186.46 - - [24/Aug/2014:23:24:11 -0500] "GET <url> HTTP/1.1" 200 16912 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; bingbot/2.0; +http://www.bing.com/bingbot.htm)" 74.125.187.193 - - [24/Aug/2014:23:24:12 -0500] "GET <url> HTTP/1.1" 200 20119 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; bingbot/2.0; +http://www.bing.com/bingbot.htm)" As it shows, user-agent shows it is bingbot. But whois data of IP address(74.125.186.46 and 74.125.187.193) shows it is from google servers. So is it Google,Bing or any other content scrappers?

  • http requests, using sprites and file sizes -

    - by crazy sarah
Hi all I'm in the process of finding out all about sprites and how they can speed up your pages. So I've used spriteMe to create a overall sprite image which is 130kb, this is made up of 14 images with a combined total size of about 65kb So is it better to have one http request and a file size of 130kb or 14 requests for a total of 65kb? Also there is a detailed image which has been put into the spite which caused it's size to go up by about 60kb odd, this used to be a seperate jpg image which was only 30kb. Would I be better off having it seperate and suffering the additional request?

  • Google nofollow, Disavow and Link Removal Requests

    - by PsychoDad
I am the owner of http://www.YouReview.net and I am constantly getting requests from people asking me to remove links to their sites or they will Disavow the links and they threaten me with Google penalties. All of this is a bit frustrating because first I use nofollow on any link outside the YouReview.net domain. Second, I've never heard of Google penalizing a site for linking to other websites. My question is twofold: Do disavowed links penalize the site that was disavowed? and Does the "nofollow" attribute on tags absolutely guarantee that the link is not followed and not counted for search engine ranking? Why don't more people know about nofollow?

  • Are HTTP requests cached? [closed]

    - by nischayn22
Many HTTP requests are sent repeatedly by browsers on almost every page load, such as requesting the jQuery .js file etc. Since these are already used on too many sites doesn't modern browsers keep a cache for this? I am thinking of a system where the browser has a cached copy of the .js file used very very frequently. On a new request for the .js file, it sends the server a request for a hash of the .js file (provided the server can reply to that) and compares the returned hash with the cached copy's hash... rest is intuitive.

  • Suddenly my server reject all Post Requests

    - by Sharen Eayrs
just go to meet-romance.com/test.htm The script there is simple. A form with a button <form action="test.htm" method="post"> <input name="Button1" type="submit" value="button" /> </form> It doesn't work. Press the button in firefox and I got connection reset thingy. I wonder why. It happens since yesterday. I have emigrated all domains that requires post requests somewhere else. I suppose a reset of server would fix that only to happen again some other time. So I wonder if anyone has a clue of why. All domains that require post have been moved to another server.

  • SQL Server – SafePeak “Logon Trigger” Feature for Managing Data Access

    - by pinaldave
Lately I received an interesting question about the abilities of SafePeak for SQL Server acceleration software: Q: “I would like to use SafePeak to make my CRM application faster. It is an application we bought from some vendor, after a while it became slow and we can’t reprogram it. SafePeak automated caching sounds like an easy and good solution for us. But, in my application there are many servers and different other applications services that address its main database, and some even change data, and I feel that there is a chance that some servers that during the connection process we may miss some. Is there a way to ensure that SafePeak will be aware of all connections to the SQL Server, so its cache will remain intact?” Interesting question, as I remember that SafePeak (http://www.safepeak.com/Product/SafePeak-Overview) likes that all traffic to the database will go thru it. I decided to check out the features of SafePeak latest version (2.1) and seek for an answer there. A: Indeed I found SafePeak has a feature they call “Logon Trigger” and is designed for that purpose. It is located in the user interface, under: Settings -> SQL instances management  ->  [your instance]  ->  [Logon Trigger] tab. From here you activate / deactivate it and control a white-list of enabled server IPs and Login names that SafePeak will ignore them. Click to Enlarge After activation of the “logon trigger” Safepeak server is notified by the SQL Server itself on each new opened connection. Safepeak monitors those connections and decides if there is something to do with them or not. On a typical installation SafePeak likes all application and users connections to go via SafePeak – this way it knows about data and schema updates immediately (real time). With activation of the safepeak “logon trigger”  a special CLR trigger is deployed on the SQL server and notifies Safepeak on any connection that has not arrived via SafePeak. In such cases Safepeak can act to clear and lock the cache or to ignore it. This feature enables to make sure SafePeak will be aware of all connections so SafePeak cache will maintain exactly correct all times. So even if a user, like a DBA will connect to the SQL Server not via SafePeak, SafePeak will know about it and take actions. The notification does not impact the work of that connection, the user or application still continue to do whatever they planned to do. Note: I found that activation of logon trigger in SafePeak requires that SafePeak SQL login will have the next permissions: 1) CONTROL SERVER; 2) VIEW SERVER STATE; 3) And the SQL Server instance is CLR enabled; Seeing SafePeak in action, I can say SafePeak brings fantastic resource for those who seek to get performance for SQL Server critical apps. SafePeak promises to accelerate SQL Server applications in just several hours of installation, automatic learning and some optimization configuration (no code changes!!!). If better application and database performance means better business to you – I suggest you to download and try SafePeak. The solution of SafePeak is indeed unique, and the questions I receive are very interesting. Have any more questions on SafePeak? Please leave your question as a comment and I will try to get an answer for you. • *Simple* way to block DDoS by number of requests

    - by Eduard Luca
I have 3 Varnish 3.0.2 servers with Apache 2 as backends, which are being load balanced through a HAproxy separate server. I need to find a very simple program (I'm not much of a sysadmin), which blocks requests from an IP, if that IP has made more than X requests in Y seconds. Would something like this be achievable with a simple solution? Right now I have to block all requests manually with iptables.

  • Windows Server 2008R2 IIS7.5, Requests getting 401 status

    - by TLBH
We have a web site running in windows server 2008r2 iis7.5 and we are seeing several errors reported from our global error handler saying that "Request Timed Out". I matched up one to the IIS log file and see the request took 135116 (presumably milliseconds) had an sc-status of 401 an sc-sub0status of 0 and an sc-win32-status of 64. 2 requests failed in these way but lots of surrounding requests (1979 successful requests vs 2 fails) for the same user went through perfectly fine- with the same cs-username which makes a 401 seem a little odd. The target of the requests is an ASP.Net web service's web method called by the .net client library- it's called a lot of times per user (3 times per second) to keep a page updated. We're getting some users reportng seeing a freezing effect and I think this may be the cause, any ideas? Peter

  • ASP.NET website http requests appear to be queueing

    - by scolemann
We cloned our servers this weekend into a colo. All non-asp.net sites are performing great, but ASP.NET sites are very slow. It appears to be an issue with the requests/connections, but I cannot figure out where. The reason I think it is a problem with the connections is that when I launch fiddler and watch the requests, all requests appear to happen sequentially. Even the static image requests are taking 5 seconds and another one doesn't start until the first one finishes. MaxConnections is set to 100 in machine.config and the "website connections" are set to unlimited. Any idea what else coudld be causing this? from machine.config:

  • How to defend agains botnet http requests

    - by Killercode
I have a server with WHM + CPanel and 5 of my costumer got infected with zbot. This means that the domains they have are constantly receiving requests to certain destinations. I tried to use mod_security but seems that it can't filter every requests... I don't really know why? I still see in the access log the connection comming in and it's consuming a LOT of bandwidth and server load Those accounts have already been clean so all of those requests go to error 404 (the ones catched on mod_security I am dropping the connection). Is there anymore ways to defend against this requests?

  • Diagnose cause of long running requests in IIS 7.0

    - by Shlomi Fruchter
We are running an ASP.NET web application on IIS 7.0, Windows Server 2008 R2, with SQL Server 2008 R2 for DB. On weekends, when the traffic is high, the request queue length in the IIS servers increase (up to 800 requests) and then drops, every minute or so. I can see that the servers are handling some requests which, according to the 'Current Requests' view in IIS Manager, are long running (thier Time Elapsed value ranges from 20 to 50 seconds). Those requests are not necessarily heavy queries, actually, I can't understand why they are taking so long. Can it be because the client is closing the connection on his side? Thanks, Shlomi

  • SQL SERVER – Denali Feature – Zoom Query Editor

    - by pinaldave
SQL Server next version ‘Denali’ is coming up with very neat feature which can be used while presentations, group discussion or for people who prefers large fonts. I have increased the font size to 400 percentage and for the same reason they are very large. You can adjust the font size which is convenient to you. One more reason to go for next version of SQL Server. • UPK 3.6.1 New Feature - Publish Presentation

    - by peter.maravelias
UPK includes numerous options for deploying the content you have created. Most UPK users are familiar with the UPK Player and the various document outputs that have been available as publishing formats for some time now. In addition UPK provides the content developer the ability to publish content for use in specific environments, LMS, Test Director are two examples. UPK 3.6.1 adds the Presentation publishing type. The Presentation publishing type produces a slideshow presentation of screenshots and text of each topic as a separate Microsoft PowerPoint file. To publish to the presentation option just select the type under the documents category in the publishing wizard. Give this new publishing type a try and let us know what you think by posting a comment. The Presentation publishing type feature came from a customer request and given the ever growing methods and channels for communication we'd like to know what other output types or methods of using existing outputs you would like to see in a future release of UPK.
