• Running 64 bit Ubuntu distribution from 32 bit Ubuntu

  Related to this question How do I run qemu with 64bit processor on a 64bit machine?, I'm trying to run latest ubuntu 11.10 64bit distribution under Ubuntu 11.04 32 bit using qemu on a core2duo (64 bit cpu) machine, using following qemu parameters with no success. Error under qemu: "This kernel required an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU. Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropiate for your CPU" Isn't qemu suppose to emulate a 64 bit machine? • Apache config file. Redirect permanent gives 403 error

  I am changing my domain from foo.com to foobar.org. I used a Redirect permanent in my apache config file, and then restarted apache. When I try to access the old domain foo.com, I get a 403 error. • Problem installing Ubuntu One in Windows XP

  I've just had to reinstall my Ubuntu One client for Windows XP Service Pack 3 and whenever I do it uninstalls my previous attempt then comed up with the following error message c:\Program Files/ubuntuone\dist\ubuntuone-control-panel-qt.exe This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling this application may fix this problem. The only option I have is "ok" then nothing happens. I've tried downloading Ubuntu One several times and tried Windows 2000 compatibility mode, Administrator mode and nothing. The only thing that I make happen is for Windows NT 5 mode, a small box appears with nothing showing and nothing else. I really need Ubuntu 1 on my computer as it has everything on it so I'm wondering if I can do anything to make it install or if it's a lost cause. The last time I tried to install U1 on Windows XP I had the same problem but after about 10 tries it installed. I've tried about 30 times now and nothing. My computer is a Dell OptiPlex SX280 with 2gb ram and 340GB Hard disk Intel Pentium 4 HT Processor

  We have just migrated our systems from Windows to Ubuntu. We have more than 50 systems previously running Windows XP & Windows 7. After the release of 12.04 we decided to switch to Ubuntu. While we were installing Ubuntu 12.04 on Pentium 4 systems we have faced some issues. We tried it with a USB flash driver & CD. The typical configuration of the system is as follows: Pentium 4 with HT & 512 MB RAM, 40/80 GB IDE / SATA HDD. In windows there were several partitions and data on all the drives in all the systems. We have addressed this by taking backup of the C: drive on other drives & while installing Ubuntu we have just deleted & the C drive & recreated Linux partitions as follows - /root , /Boot, /Home & Swap.(in 10 GB) The problem is that the Linux gets installed without any error. However when I restart the system after the installation the system hangs in while detecting the HDD in BIOS and the system fails to start until I remove the HDD. When I installed the previous Ubuntu version it worked fine, without any hassle. Also if we install Ubuntu 12.04 on same HDD on any other higher capacity system & reconnected to old system it works fine. How can I fix this problem? Also, is there is any Antivirus which will give me real time protection on ubuntu 11 & higher versions with both 32 & 64 Bits?

• I am trying to set up a ubuntu sever 12.04 on my machine

  I am trying to set up a server on my home network which will eventually host rails. I am not great in linux server and i try to follow the prompt. I did succesfully get to a black screen which then prompts me to a username then password to then do anything ( assuming). However here what i try to do I kinda fellow his tutorial http://www.ubuntugeek.com/step-by-step-ubuntu-11-04-natty-lamp-server-setup.html but however the command where not 100% like him not in same order but same idea. Then i want to install ubuntu server with gui here the command i try with sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop Which however give me the following error Err http... inRelease w Failed to fetch ht... So been ignored if i try the desktop one i get E: unable to locate package ubuntu E: unable to locate package desktop So i am assuming i am not connected to the internet, so i try the following command sudo vi /etc/network/interfaces here the output it gives me and i know my gateway on my laptop is 192.168.1.1 address: 192.168.1.148 netmask: 255.255.255.0 network: 192.168.1.0 broadcasts: 192.168.1.255 gateway: 192.168.1.1 Btw i do not know the command to get out of vi and saving it. • Can't install Ubuntu, black screen after install

  I tried several times, but wasn't able to make it work. I tried all recent types of Ubuntu but it didn't work. Then I tried acpi=off at the beginning of the installation. In this way I could finish the installation. But after the restart Ubuntu didn't work. Only a black screen appeared. Before that I tried it on the VirtualBox and it work. • Fix for poor hd playback for 11.04 upwards

  Hi guys ive seen loads of posts on this site about poor 720/1080p playback in recent ubuntu versions I had this problem and fixed it so I thought id share it with everyone.... 1 install mplayer 2 install smplayer frontend {in software center} 3 open smplayer 4 go to "OPTIONS" then "PREFRENCES" then "GENRAL" 5 if you have a nvidia card choose "OUTPUT DRIVER" and select "VDPAU" {for ATI or AMD choose xv (0 - ATI Radeon AVIVO video) I dont know if this will work as my card is nvidia but it should) 6 go to performance on the left hand side and set both local and streaming cache to 99999 (this may also fix dvd playback if you set that cache aswell} 7 check the box for "ALLOW HARD FRAME DROP" and set "LOOP FILTER" to skip only on HD 8 Set the "THREDS FOR DECODING OPTION TO THE NUMBER OF CORES YOUR CPU HAS IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE CPU ADD UP ALL THE CORES FOR BEST PERFORMANCE" 9 Enjoy you HD movies again on ubuntu...... I have a pretty avrage machine heres my spec.... 2x Pentium 4 ht 3 ghz Stock dell power and motherboard GFORCE 310 HDMI 24 inch full HD tv as a monitor so any one with dule core cpu should have no problems getting this to work. hope this helps someone out.

• Ubuntu server 11.04 recognize only 1 core instead of 4

  I searched for other questions and googled a lot but I don't find a solution for solving this problem. Ubuntu Server 11.04 64bit installed on Dell Poweredge with Intel Xeon X5450. He only recognize 1 of the 4 cores I have. Tried to modify the GRUB config but didn't work. IN the machine BIOS I didn't find anything useful.   I just installed Ubuntu 12.10 on a new PC with an Nvidia GTX 560 graphics card, but after installing the Nvidia proprietary drivers (either -current or -current-updates), Unity won't start. When trying to start it manually I get the message "extension GLX missing". I've searched around and found results like this question which point out it's a problem with Nvidia Optimus laptops. • Existing laravel 4 project gives 404 in browser

  I'm trying to set up a development environment on a virtual machine running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS using Nginx and HHVM. To do this, I followed the tutorial here. This goes well with a new installation of Laravel. But when I import an existing Laravel 4 project and try to open that on my actual machine (which will serve as the client running Windows 7), I'm getting a 404 File Not Found error on the screen while connecting to http://sav.savrichard.dev. I did add this to the hosts file with the correct IP Address. The virtual machine is receiving the request and responds with a 404 error. How do I solve this error? I'm pretty new to Ubuntu so I'm not exactly sure what's wrong. • How should I group these variables?

  I have a shape that will be defined by: char s_type; char color; double height; double width; These variables are scanned in from a request string sent to my server and passed into my printing function, which then prints out the shape. • UIView inside UIView with Shadow?

  Hi, I've been trying to figure out how to draw a shadow for an UIView that was added inside a UIView with addSubview. I searched online and read the docs, but the Apple docs simply draw new shapes as shown below. I want to use the Core Graphics to add a shadow to the UIView, but am unsure how to do this to a UIView directly. • Making TeX tables smaller?

  I have a LaTeX table that looks like this: \begin{table}[!ht] \centering \small \caption{ \bf{Caption}} \begin{tabular}{l|c|c|l|c|c|c|c|c} field1 & field 2 & ... \\ \hline ... the problem is that even with "\small" the table is too big, since I use: \usepackage{setspace} \doublespacing in the header. How can I: 1) Make the table single spaced? and 2) Make the table smaller? I'd like it to fit on an entire page. thanks.

This causes the browser to prompt the user to download unsecure content. • Which number of processes will give me the best performance ?

  I am doing some expensive caluations right now. It is one programm, which I run several instances of at the same time. I am running them under linux on a machine with 4 cpus with 6 cores each. The cpus are Intel Xeon X5660, which support hyper thearting. (That's some insane hardware, huh?) Right now I am running 24 processes at once. Would it be better to run more, b/c of HT ?
