  • How to validate a form with jQuery?

    I tried to find the answer in other questions but actually nothing worked -.- Somehow I hate JavaScript ... Anyway! My Code looks like: function validate() { if ($(":input").length == 0) { $(":input").addClass("notvalid"); return false; } else { $(":input").removeClass("notvalid"); return true; } return true; } $(":input").blur(validate()); $(":input").keyup(validate()); $("#customForm").submit(function(){ if(validate()){ return true; } else { return false; } }); I just want to test every tag to be not empty. The test should be done when the focus is lost or after every key type. And of course after the submit button has been clicked. It doesn't work. Firefox error console says something like: unknown pseudoclass or pseudoelement 'input'. What does this mean?

  • c++ builder TClientWinSocket simbol substitution

    I have the following problem. I have to send a text telegram over tcp/ip to a host device. Telegram should be terminated using 0x1A (CTRL-Z) character. But when I send it, host told me that there is a wrong symbol in the telegram. When I terminate a telegram with 32 (0x20) everything is ok. I look the transfered data using WireShark and I see that when I send 0x1A it is substituted with 0x16, when I send 32 (0x20) as a terminator it is somehow substituted with 0x1A. Can you explain it please. P.S. I am working on windows 7, using c++builder xe2. Thanks, Vladimir

  • Simple wave generator with SDL in c++

    i am having problems understanding how the audio part of the sdl library works now, i know that when you initialize it, you have to specify the frequency and a callback<< function, which i think is then called automatically at the given frequency. can anyone who worked with the sdl library write a simple example that would use sdl_audio to generate a 440 hz square wave (since it is the simplest waveform) at a sampling frequency of 44000 hz? thanks in advance

  • Game logic dynamically extendable architecture implementation patterns

    When coding games there are a lot of cases when you need to inject your logic into existing class dynamically and without making unnecessary dependencies. For an example I have a Rabbit which can be affected by freeze ability so it can't jump. It could be implemented like this: class Rabbit { public bool CanJump { get; set; } void Jump() { if (!CanJump) return; ... } } But If I have more than one ability that can prevent it from jumping? I can't just set one property because some circumstances can be activated simultanously. Another solution? class Rabbit { public bool Frozen { get; set; } public bool InWater { get; set; } bool CanJump { get { return !Frozen && !InWater; } } } Bad. The Rabbit class can't know all the circumstances it can run into. Who knows what else will game designer want to add: may be an ability that changes gravity on an area? May be make a stack of bool values for CanJump property? No, because abilities can be deactivated not in that order in which they were activated. I need a way to seperate ability logic that prevent the Rabbit from jumping from the Rabbit itself. One possible solution for this is making special checking event: class Rabbit { class CheckJumpEventArgs : EventArgs { public bool Veto { get; set; } } public event EventHandler<CheckJumpEvent> OnCheckJump; void Jump() { var args = new CheckJumpEventArgs(); if (OnCheckJump != null) OnCheckJump(this, args); if (!args.Veto) return; ... } } But it's a lot of code! A real Rabbit class would have a lot of properties like this (health and speed attributes, etc). I'm thinking of borrowing something from MVVM pattern where you have all the properties and methods of an object implemented in a way where they can be easily extended from outside. Then I want to use it like this: class FreezeAbility { void ActivateAbility() { _rabbit.CanJump.Push(ReturnFalse); } void DeactivateAbility() { _rabbit.CanJump.Remove(ReturnFalse); } // should be implemented as instance member // so it can be "unsubscribed" bool ReturnFalse(bool previousValue) { return false; } } Is this approach good? What also should I consider? What are other suitable options and patterns? Any ready to use solutions? UPDATE The question is not about how to add different behaviors to an object dynamically but how its (or its behavior) implementation can be extended with external logic. I don't need to add a different behavior but I need a way to modify an exitsing one and I also need a possibiliity to undo changes.

  • Linq-to-XML explicit casting in a generic method

    I've looked for a similar question, but the only one that was close didn't help me in the end. I have an XML file that looks like this: <Fields> <Field name="abc" value="2011-01-01" /> <Field name="xyz" value="" /> <Field name="tuv" value="123.456" /> </Fields> I'm trying to use Linq-to-XML to get the values from these fields. The values can be of type Decimal, DateTime, String and Int32. I was able to get the fields one by one using a relatively simple query. For example, I'm getting the 'value' from the field with the name 'abc' using the following: private DateTime GetValueFromAttribute(IEnumerable<XElement> fields, String attName) { return (from field in fields where field.Attribute("name").Value == "abc" select (DateTime)field.Attribute("value")).FirstOrDefault() } this is placed in a separate function that simply returns this value, and everything works fine (since I know that there is only one element with the name attribute set to 'abc'). however, since I have to do this for decimals and integers and dates, I was wondering if I can make a generic function that works in all cases. this is where I got stuck. here's what I have so far: private T GetValueFromAttribute<T>(IEnumerable<XElement> fields, String attName) { return (from field in fields where field.Attribute("name").Value == attName select (T)field.Attribute("value").Value).FirstOrDefault(); } this doesn't compile because it doesn't know how to convert from String to T. I tried boxing and unboxing (i.e. select (T) (Object) field.Attribute("value").Value but that throws a runtime Specified cast is not valid exception as it's trying to convert the String to a DateTime, for instance. Is this possible in a generic function? can I put a constraint on the generic function to make it work? or do I have to have separate functions to take advantage of Linq-to-XML's explicit cast operators?

    Hi there, I thought hours about that problem but I didn't come to any conclusion. My problem here is that I need a 'Previous' Button added to a form. The user should fill out a formular that is splitted up in 13 parts. Every part is an own formular having a 'Next' button for submitting everything to a database and redirecting to the next page. How do I integrate a 'Previous' button there? ... I don't if it might be usefull for you to know that I'm using cakePHP, and well I'm pretty new to it.

  • WINSDK: Determining whether an arbitrary pid identifies a running process on Windows

    Attempting to implement a poor man's test of whether a process is still running or not (essentially an equivalent of the trivial kill(pid, 0).) Hoped to be able to simply call OpenProcess with some minimal desired access then test for either GetLastError() == ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER or GetExitCodeProcess(...) != STILL_ACTIVE. Nice try... Running on Windows XP, as administrator: HANDLE hProc = OpenProcess(PROCESS_QUERY_INFORMATION, FALSE, pid); if (!hProc) { DWORD dwLastError = GetLastError(); } ...fails miserably with dwLastError == ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED when pid is owned by a different (not SYSTEM) user. Moreover, if pid was originally owned by a different user but has since terminated, OpenProcess also fails with ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED (not ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER.) Do I have to use Process32First/Process32Next or EnumProcesses? I absolutely do not want to use SeDebugPrivilege. Thanks, V

    Hi All, Is there a better way to calculate number of leap years between two years. Assuming I have start date and end date. I have my code, but I think there should be more elegant way. calling code: var numberOfLeapYears = NumberOfLeapYears(startDate.Year + 1, endDate.Year - 1); function itself: private static int NumberOfLeapYears(int startYear, int endYear) { var counter = 0; for (var year = startYear; year <= endYear; year++) counter += DateTime.IsLeapYear(year) ? 1 : 0; return counter; } So if I have startDate = "10/16/2006" and endDate = "4/18/2004" I should only have 1 leap year (2000) in result. Another words startDate's Year and endDate's year should not be calculated, only years in between. Thanks in advance for your help.

Besides, I want, if possible, to avoid the infamous double-loop through the table. I would really appreciate a clean and safe way of rewriting this piece. I like the approach that is used here - especially that is trying to solve the same problem that I have, but it crashes on me when I apply it to my case directly.

    This may be a silly question but I was under the impression that it was possible to use IronRuby and MS Visual Studio 2010 together to sort of build interfaces\edit XAML in one window and code ruby in the other? Is this only possible to do with C#, Basic and C++ ? I've browsed SO and seen some IronRuby snippets like this one: button1.click do |sender, args| MessageBox.show("Hello World!") end So it stands to reason you can create GUIs somehow, but is the visual gui creator not available for ironruby?

    I am using replaceWith for input type=file to handle changes of the file the user wants to upload. I have this code: $('#add_cv_input').change(function() { // here is some code else { alert('put one of this: pdf doc docx'); $("#add_cv_input").replaceWith('<input id="add_cv_input" type="file"/>'); } }); now the problem is that this jquery changed event does not being called after the first time that the user had uploaded the wrong extension. I don't have a clue why this is happening. Everything works fine if at the first time the user uploads a valid extension and then he changes it to other valid extension.

  • Generate regular expression to match strings from the list A, but not from list B

    I have two lists of strings ListA and ListB. I need to generate a regular expression that will match all strings in ListA and will not match any string in ListB. The strings could contain any combination of characters, numbers and punctuation. If a string appears on ListA it is guaranteed that it will not be in the ListB. If a string is not in either of these two lists I don't care what the result of the matching should be. The lists typically contain thousands of strings, and strings are fairly similar to each other. I know the trivial answer to this question, which is just generate a regular expression of the form (Str1)|(Str2)|(Str3) where StrN is the string from ListA. But I am looking for a more efficient way to do this. Ideal solution would be some sort of tool that will take two lists and generate a Java regular expression for this. Update 1: By "efficient", I mean to generate expression that is shorter than trivial solution. The ideal algorithm would generate the shorted possible expression. Here are some examples. ListA = { C10 , C15, C195 } ListB = { Bob, Billy } The ideal expression would be /^C1.+$/ Another example, note the third element of ListB ListA = { C10 , C15, C195 } ListB = { Bob, Billy, C25 } The ideal expression is /^C[^2]{1}.+$/ The last example ListA = { A , D ,E , F , H } ListB = { B , C , G , I } The ideal expression is the same as trivial solution which is /^(A|D|E|F|H)$/ Also, I am not looking for the ideal solution, anything better than trivial would help. I was thinking along the lines of generating the list of trivial solutions, and then try to merge the common substrings while watching that we don't wander into ListB territory. *Update 2: I am not particularly worried about the time it takes to generate the RegEx, anything under 10 minutes on the modern machine is acceptable

    I am trying to write some code that will allow me to dynamically load DLLs into my application, depending on an application setting. The idea is that the database to be accessed is set in the application settings and then this loads the appropriate DLL and assigns it to an instance of an interface for my application to access. This is my code at the moment: Dim SQLDataSource As ICRDataLayer Dim ass As Assembly = Assembly. _ LoadFrom("M:\MyProgs\WebService\DynamicAssemblyLoading\SQLServer\bin\Debug\SQLServer.dll") Dim obj As Object = ass.CreateInstance(GetType(ICRDataLayer).ToString, True) SQLDataSource = DirectCast(obj, ICRDataLayer) MsgBox(SQLDataSource.ModuleName & vbNewLine & SQLDataSource.ModuleDescription) I have my interface (ICRDataLayer) and the SQLServer.dll contains an implementation of this interface. I just want to load the assembly and assign it to the SQLDataSource object. The above code just doesn't work. There are no exceptions thrown, even the Msgbox doesn't appear. I would've expected at least the messagebox appearing with nothing in it, but even this doesn't happen! Is there a way to determine if the loaded assembly implements a specific interface. I tried the below but this also doesn't seem to do anything! The SQLServer class implements ICRDataLayer, so I don't understand why it wouldn't be able to cast it. Is the naming significant here, I wouldn't have thought it would be.

Is there a way to allow columns to be place into a template dynamically? This would be similar to the Answers Column selector. A customer has said Crystal can do this and I am trying to see how BI Pub can do the same. Example: Report has Regions as a dimension in a table, they want the user to select a parameter that will insert either Units or Dollars without having to create multiple templates. Now whether Crystal can actually do it or not is another question, can Publisher? Yes we can! Kan took the first stab. His approach, was to allow to swap out columns in a table in the report. Some quick steps: 1. Create a parameter from BIP server UI 2. Declare the parameter in RTF template You can check this post to see how you can declare the parameter from the server. http://bipconsulting.blogspot.com/2010/02/how-to-pass-user-input-values-to-report.html 3. Use the parameter value to condition if a particular column needs to be displayed or not. You can use <?if@column:.....?> syntax for Column level IF condition. The if@column is covered in user documentation. This would allow a developer to create a report with the parameter or multiple parameters to allow the user to pick a column to be included in the report. I took a slightly different tack, with the mention of the column selector in the Answers report I took that to mean that the user wanted to select more of a dimensional column and then have the report recalculate all its totals and subtotals based on that selected column. This is a little bit more involved and involves some smart XSL and XPATH expressions, but still very doable. The user can select a column as a parameter, that is passed to the template rather than the query. The parameter value that is actually passed is the element name that you want to regroup the data by. Inside the template we then reference that parameter value in our for-each-group loop. That's where we need the trixy XSL/XPATH code to get the regrouping to happen. At this juncture, I need to hat tip to Klaus, for his article on dynamic sorting that he wrote back in 2006. I basically took his sorting code and applied it to the for-each loop. You can follow both of Kan's first two steps above i.e. Create a parameter from BIP server UI - this just needs to be based on a 'list' type list of value with name/value pairs e.g. Department/DEPARTMENT_NAME, Job/JOB_TITLE, etc. The user picks the 'friendly' value and the server passes the element name to the template. Declare the parameter in RTF template - been here before lots of times right? <?param@begin:group1;'"DEPARTMENT_NAME"'?> I have used a default value so that I can test the funtionality inside the template builder (notice the single and double quotes.) Next step is to use the template builder to build a re-grouped report layout. It does not matter if its hard coded right now; we will add in the dynamic piece next. Once you have a functioning template that is re-grouping correctly. Open up the for-each-group field and modify it to use the parameter: <?for-each-group:ROW;./*[name(.) = $group1]?> 'group1' is my grouping parameter, declared above. We need the XPATH expression to find the column in the XML structure we want to group that matches the one passed by the parameter. Its essentially looking through the data tree for a match. We can show the actual grouping value in the report output with a similar XPATH expression <?./*[name(.) = $group1]?> In my example, I took things a little further so that I could have a dynamic label for the parameter value. For instance if I am using MANAGER as the parameter I want to show: Manager: Tim Dexter My XML elements are readable e.g. DEPARTMENT_NAME. Its a simple case of replacing the underscore with a space and then 'initcapping' the result: <?xdoxslt:init_cap(translate($group1,'_',' '))?> With this in place, the user can now select a grouping column in the BIP report viewer and the layout will re-group the data and any calculations based on that column. I built a group above report but you could equally build the group left version to truly mimic the Answers column selector. Of course, you can combine Klaus' dynamic sorting, Kan's conditional column approach and this dynamic grouping to build a real kick ass report for users that will keep them happy for hours..

  • Annual SQL Server conference in Poland - SQLDay 2014

    We had a great 3-days conference this year in Poland. The SQLDay (7th edition) is an annual community conference. We started in 2008 as a part of C2C (community to communities) conference and after that, from 2009 the SQLDay is the independent event dedicated to the SQL Server specialists. This year we had almost 300 people and speakers like Bob Ward, Klaus Aschenbrenner and Alberto Ferrari.
