• What word processor can manage left and right pages separately?

  I was after a word processor that can manage left and right pages separately so I can have my text on the right pages and my illustrations on the left pages. I know LibeOffice can set "left page" and "right page" formats, but there is no simple way to make the text jump from right page to right page when writing. I don't know what would be the best way to do that, but I guess I need an app that is designed for writing books and do that kind of thing, or an app that can associate a page format with an object format (so the "illustration" format can be exclusively associated with "left page" format, and "text body" exclusively associated with "right page", for example). Or is there an extension for LO or OOo out there that I didn't hear about? Cheers!

• Auto convert odt to pdf

  I am creating a few documents in Libre office and I have to always send them as .pdf. but each and every time I forget to export it as pdf , So is there any way to auto convert the .odt document into pdf every time I save the document ? I have only about 4 docs , I keep making changes on them , So each and every time I make a change and save the odt I need that change to be updated in the corresponding pdf file . Ps : I understand that unoconv can be used to convert via command line but is there a way to automatically do it ? Another Ps : I found out that there is something called inotify and inotify-tools and that can be used to trigger events when a file changes . But I have no idea on how to use it .

• Didn't you have problems with upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04 (libre office)?

  This is the first time I'm repporting something hoping that it can be usefull for you. When updating from 11.010 to 12.04 (what include updating Libre office I supose), I can't any more work with any document that was originally made in Libre office. Every change freezes the screen, I can't save anything... I'm talking of complex documents, with lots of internal references and footnotes and some propor text styles of about 230 pages (phd work) I wanted to alert you that probabely something is wrong but as I don't have any tecnical knowledge, I don't know what could be usefull to help you in your great job of making good free software. My little desktop has 2Gb of Ram memory and an atom processor (I can look for more details if that would be usefull to you)

• Search for odt files without indexing

  I am looking for: a way to search inside odt files (i.e. search for contents, not name) that does not require any kind of indexing that is graphical and very user-friendly (for a relatively old person, who does not like computers much) I know that it is possible to have 1) and 2): for x in `find . -iname '*odt'`; do odt2txt $x | grep Query; done works well enough, and it's pretty fast. But I wonder if there is already a good solution that does this with a GUI (or can be adapted to do this easily)

• Font substitution

  What happens when you open a .docx document that is written in a font not available on your computer? How can you find the name of original font? I guess writer select automatically an other font. I tried to open a document written in Japanese. Writer shows the fond Droid Sans, and all the characters except number and Roman letters appear as squares. After changing to Droid Sans Japanese a few boxes are still left. I guess I have to install the original font on my computer, but I do not know the name of the font.

  After a new install of 14.04 I have quite a few extra locales/languages. Is this normal? I installed using English (GB) I think since en_AU isn't an option. At some point apt offered a list of unused files which I removed. • Fix for: Xlib: extension "XINERAMA" missing on display

  I am using Xming 6.9 with putty trying to run libreoffice remotely. It works well, but an error line appears in the terminal from where I launch it: Xlib: extension "XINERAMA" missing on display "localhost:12.0". Looks like it needs this extension but I can't find the necessary dll file (libXinerama-1.dll) for it as it is not included in the package. I ask for a link from where I could download this file (I accept a hit with a lmgtfy if you can do it) or the source code of it and how to complie it on my win7 machine... or just a surface fix could do it also if it is really clean and simple: hide the error line.

  I am trying to use MATCH() and/or LOOKUP() in LibreOffice Calc. I have the "Search criteria = and < must apply to whole cells" and the "Enable regular expressions in formulas" options selected. The item I am looking for is a multi word string. How do I provide a search criteria as a cell reference (E3) in to LOOKUP(E3, B1:B20, C1:C20) and have it match the value in B1:B20 EXACTLY? Right now it is matching partial strings rather than matching the cell values exactly.

• Libre Office/Writer PDF export: white borders appear between lines even after setting borders to none

  My document prints ok (exactly as it appears on the screen in Libre Office), but when I export to PDF and view the PDF on screen there are white borders around each text or picture object. Here's a sample snapshot from PDF/Preview: http://imgur.com/TWip5 I've tried selecting a paragraph and changing the border property to None as described in Libre Office help (http://help.libreoffice.org/Common/Borders), setting the "Line arrangement Default" to "Set no borders". But borders set by the Format dialog don't correspond to the borders I see in PDF/Preview. In PDF/Preview the border appears on line boundaries. Borders set in Format appear around each picture, for example. What am I doing wrong?

• Printing the second page from a Calc sheet

  I've created a simple invoice document in LibreOffice Calc and it consists of 2 pages. I have defined the print range for my document as: $A$1:$D$33,$D$34:$D$35 My first page holds the actual invoice information the second page is a single merged cell holding terms and conditions text (wrapped to the cell width). The second page is defined by a row break. When I export the sheet as a PDF the first page comes out great but the second page with the terms text is all wrong. On the left hand side I see a portion of text (looks like a single column) and when I select the text inside the PDF I can see it go of the page somewhere to the left. I get the same result in a print preview. I'm at a complete loss on how to approach this problem and any insight is much appreciated.

• How do I find all text with particular background color?

  I have a LibreOffice Writer document that has undergone a process of editing, and sections of the text that needed to be rewritten were highlighted in yellow. As I fixed those sections, I removed the yellow highlight. Now, I want to make sure there are no remaining areas of highlighted text that have not been fixed or possibly the highlight was not removed. It's many hundreds of pages, so a manual scan is unfeasible. Also, it might be that one space or one character got accidentally left highlighted, and I want to ensure I've accounted for them all. How can I search the document to find all instances where text has been highlighted?

The minutes may or may not have leading zeros. Because I need to separate out the minutes and seconds for various operations, I need to be able to get at the numbers before and after the colon. How do I select the number before a colon in a cell, and how do I select the number after?

If I were to have a series of functions that referenced a different column in a worksheet but all ended on the same row of data is there a way to point the 'row' part of a cell reference to a blank cell and use it has a variable to show the results of the functions up to a desired row simultaneously?   I try to avoid using Libre Office on existing Excel created workbooks because of the potential for unpleasant results. In this case Libre Office bloated the size of the workbook for some reason unknown to me. I would like to know if Libre Office does this to all Excel workbooks or just something in that workbook that causes it. Software involved: Microsoft Office Excel 2010 Libre Office 3.5.x (exact version unknown) Dropbox (merely to sync changes) Platforms involved: Office on Windows (master of the obvious on that one I suppose..) • Control cell reference increment when dragging a forumula in Libre Office Calc (3.5)

  Using Libre Office Calc (3.5) and have a question. When copying a formula that references cells into multiple empty cells the default is to increment each cell reference by one column or row, depending on the direction that the formula is being drug. A formula '= 1 + A1' drug horizontally changes to '= 1 + B1' when pulled one cell to right and '=1 + A2' when pulled one cell down. Is there a way to control increase the increment of the referenced cell? Is is possible to have a formula '= 1 + A1' that effectively changes to '= 1 + A3' when drug down one cell, '= 1 + A5' when drug down two cells, etc? If it matters, I am trying to take a constantly updating master list of data that is organized by dates (Wednesdays and Saturdays) and create separate spread sheets for each day of the week that can be updated by only pulling down the formula into the next cell. My attempts at using the 'lookup' function, 'offset' function, and creating a sort column in Libre Office Calc are thwarted by my inability to figure out how to get around the single step increment when pulling a formula down into the next cell. • setting java classpath for Libre Office Base in Fedora 16

  using Fedora 16 OS. i want to use Libre Office Base to connect to MySQL. when i set up the JDBC connection, it asks me for the driver, however, it cannot be loaded (because it doesn't see it in the classpath). does anybody know how to set the classpath for Libre Office? is there like a config util tool for that? e.g. my driver is [B]com.mysql.jdbc.Driver [/B]situated in[B] /usr/share/java/mysql-connector-java-5.1.17.jar[/B]. it works fine when i connect from other JDBC clients, like straight Java or Eclipse Quantum plugin. the problem is that Libre Office does not ask me for the (class)path of where it can find the driver and i do not know where and how to set it so that it becomes visible. thanks

Now multiple documents can be opened at the same time, either from "File | Open File" or from the File Browser (i.e., the rebranded Favorites window). Click to enlarge the image below to get a fuller perspective on Squibbly: Take note of the tabs at the bottom of the editor-area in the screenshot above, and especially when you click the image to enlarge it. Multiple tabs are available at the same time, each representing a different open document. Click a different tab and its document is activated and brought to the front of the application. That means multiple LibreOffice applications can be used simultaneously, each could be undocked from the frame of the application, and the user can work with multiple documents, from multiple LibreOffice applications, all at the same time.
