• Media Center keeps re-recording movies when they reappear in the Guide

  When I record a movie in Windows Media Center, it records it again every time it shows up in the Guide listings again - days, weeks, or months later. The movies are not listed as a Series (Recorded TV - Schedules - Series). I found many matches for this problem on Google, and no solutions. Windows XP SP3 w/all current updates; MCE 2005 w/all current updates.

• What is the process to fix track listing error on Spotify that is also wrong on the CD?

  I've just been listening to The Complete John Cage Edition Volume 18: The Choral Works 1 but the track listing is wrong. (N.B. I'm not a Cage genius, but a new twitter friend is and pointed this out to me). The CD comes from a label called Mode and the track listing is also wrong on the CD so it's not just a Spotify DB thing. What database do Spotify use for their track listings and what is the correct process for getting it corrected when there is an error?

  I am just graduating from a computer science degree (tomorrow is my last exam). I have been thinking about job hunting this semester but I wanted to focus on my studies and part time job so I am a bit late on the job hunt. I want to find a job in a city that I have very little professional network in (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada). How would you go about job hunting in a new city? I do not live there yet and I cannot easy go there so that makes finding places to apply a bit trickier. Normally I would ask people that I studied and worked with but I have few contacts in Ottawa. Where would you look to find jobs? • Bare minimum on the Joel Test

  From the Joel Test, of the 12, which do you think are the absolute must-haves to at least have a decently running software department/company? I realise there is no absolutely right answer. I'm just trying to get opinions of others out there. My own organization only manages a measly 5 of 12. If you check listings on Careers 2.0, most companies don't score a full 12 either but I'm sure they're doing fine. Does SO publish the stats for those anywhere? Or has anyone tried scrapping the results? Would be interesting to know which are practised the most. And whether because they are easier to implement or whether they actually have the most impact. • SEO for site with 301 redirect on root domain to subfolder

  I've been asked to do SEO for a site. The site is made using Wordpress and prestashop. Because of this the root domain has a 301 redirect to a subfolder - domain/shop/ For my SEO submission work, I know it's not good practice to submit urls that have redirects on them and a lot of the time it's not allowed. After searching the net I think my best bet is to do all my site submissions using the url - domain/shop/ even though it will take a lot more listings to get them up in ranking compared to using their root domain. I'm not sure how it will work. The root domain has the greatest rank then passes rank to the rest of the site. If I'm targeting the subfolder will it work?

  I'm toying with starting an occasional blog for posting odd bits of coding related stuff (mainly C++, probably). Are there any platforms which can be recommended as providing exceptionally good support (e.g syntax highlighting) for posting snippets of code ? (Or any to avoid because posting mono-spaced font blocks of text is a pain). Outcome: I accepted Josh K's answer because what I actually ended up doing was realizing I was more interested in articles than a blog style, getting back into LaTeX (after almost 20 years away from it), using the "listings" package for code, and pushing the HTML/PDF results to my ISP's static-hosting pages. (HTML generated using tex4ht). Kudos to the answers mentioning Wordpress, Tumblr and Jekyll; I spent some time looking into all of them.

• How to enable TRIM on LVM on Ubuntu 12.10?

  When I reinstalled Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit on my SSD, I chose the option to use LVM in Ubiquity. I am trying to find out how to enable TRIM for my SSD. I came across this article: http://worldsmostsecret.blogspot.com/2012/04/how-to-activate-trim-on-luks-encrypted.html The article states in addition to adding discard and noatime to /etc/fstab , discard must be added to the drive (sdX_crypt) in /etc/crypttab. My problem is the only listings in my /etc/crypttab are several cryptswap; it does not list any sdX_crypt. I currently have a /dev/sda1 (ext2), which is the boot point, and /dev/mapper/ubuntu-root, which is my ext4 partition. Any ideas as to how to enable TRIM?

• More confusion over SEO Cname and 301 redirect

  Previous answers on this topic don't really help me with my query, so any help appreciated for a bit of a newbie. I have a new domain "domain#1.mobi" Its hosted with godaddy and has a cname and forwarding, pointing it to "domain#1.elsewhere.us" It has no content. The content is all hosted on "domain#1.elsewhere.us" which is what Google is now listing in its results. I want Google to ignore that and only list "domain#1.mobi" in its listings. How do I achieve this?

• 301 redirects mirrored domain

  I'm redesigning a site for a friend on my localhost. His old site is an .asp based site and we're replacing it with a WordPress site on LAMP hosting. The old site sits on domain A and also has another domain, domain B parked on top of it mirroring it. Google has picked up domain B for most of his search engine results and yahoo and bing etc have picked up domain A. The plan is to 301 redirect the the old pages of his site on domain A to the new WordPress versions and park domain B on top of it like before. My question is, will this work, if not what would be a better way to approach it? We'd prefer not to lose any of the search engine listings in the redesign, and the search engines don't appear to have penalized him for duplicate content. Thanks very much in advance!

• Gnome 3 Shell extensions not working on Ubuntu 12.4 [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Gnome Shell Extension Empty I just upgraded to Ubuntu 12.4 running on a Win 7 box via VBox and switched the user interface to Gnome 3 but have a problem. In Advanced Settings (gnome tweak), the Shell Extensions window has no listings and the Theme window shows a "caution" triangle next to the Shell theme drop box. I have re-installed the default extensions using the Noobs Lab posted instructions: sudo apt-get install shell-extensions3.4 sudo apt-get install gnome-shell-extensions The commands appear to complete without error. Symptoms are: Gnome 2 visual appearance and no window borders or controls. To close a window, I have to click the window indicator in the sys tray and select the close menu item. Any ideas?

  I'm guessing CMU would teach C and other unmanaged languages (their course listing shows Principles of Functional Programming as a required course for a BSCS), but it's hard to tell from course listings. I'm looking into applying there, where I have an OK chance of getting in , as well as some other mid-to high tier CS schools. I'm wondering how you can tell if a school mainly teaches Java or goes into C/C++. Everyone says (and I agree, from my current programming knowledge) that learning Java in college exclusively is a bad idea, so I'm hoping to avoid ending up at a 'Javaschool.'

  Can anyone recommend affiliate networks that focus on B2B development. We are about to launch a UK job search engine that allows job boards to list their jobs on the engine. We have decided to keep the advertising in house, with the goal being of keeping the costs down. I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice on potential advertising routes that we could take. For example B2B affiliate networks, adwords etc. We are in the position of launching an empty site and ideally we would like to be attracting recruitment agencies or businesses to signup to either a free or paid account. For example i have a page for article itemA belonging to category catA/subcatA, with URL: /catA/subcatA/itemA this is the URL that i want to be indexed from google. this article is also visible via tagging in various other places in the web site. The URLs produced via tagging is like: /tagA1/itemA this URL i want NOT to be indexed from google. I would like to markup my business listing 'profile' level pages for display as enhanced listings/rich-snippets complete with business names, addresses and phone numbers. I would also like to display site-links and path-based breadcrumbs to help users navigate site directory hierarchy (which is deep). Is there a limit to the amount of breadcrumbs a site can leave? Is there a separate limit on the number of breadcrumbs which Google/Bing will display in the SERP? • Does a large (hidden) submenu count towards site content in tems of determining page similarities?

  Basically, I have this site that recently lost a lot of traffic after I optimized the html, the exact reasons to which are uncertain. The graph of impressions (times a page appears on search listings) is continuously going down like an e^-x function. Because the content, previously occupying five pages of tables, now fits within a few paragraph tags, the menu now occupies about 80% of the live html code and I am starting to have doubts wherether this affects the "similar pages" factor that Google punishes. Questions: As far as I know, Google ignores invisible material and the submenus are only visible when hovered over. Has anything at all changed in this area? If I ajax in the submenus, leaving only the main eight menu items to load, will I be punished for "hiding" information? Is the idea worth testing or is it frankly retarded?

  Hi, I have a join which deletes rows that match another table but the joining fields have to be a large varchar (250 chars). I know this isn't ideal but I can't think of a better way. Here's my query: DELETE P FROM dbo.FeedPhotos AS P INNER JOIN dbo.ListingPhotos AS P1 ON P.photo = P1.feedImage INNER JOIN dbo.Listings AS L ON P.accountID = L.accountID WHERE P.feedID = @feedID This query is constantly timing out even though there are less than 1000 rows in the ListingPhotos table. Any help would be appreciated.

• Does anyone use AMPL anymore

  I took a class on "Intelligent Decision Making" (which was mostly an Problem Optimization class). In the class we learned about AMPL and how to extend the solvers. I haven't heard much about it lately, nor have I seen job listings for it. My question is: Is AMPL still in use anymore? If so what is it being used for? Yes, I do understand that AMPL can be replaced with Matlab, however AMPL is free and Matlab isn't even close.
