  • Is there any proper documentation for mod-evasive?

    - by Question Overflow
mod_evasive20 is one of the loaded modules on my httpd server. I read good things about how it can stop a DOS attack and wanted to try it out on my localhost. A search for mod_evasive turns up a blog post by the author which briefly describes what it does. Other than that, I can't seem to find a reference or a documentation on the apache modules site. I was wondering whether it is a module recognised by Apache since there is no mention of it on its website. I have a mod_evasive.conf file sitting in the /etc/http/conf.d folder that contains the following lines: LoadModule evasive20_module modules/mod_evasive20.so <IfModule mod_evasive20.c> DOSHashTableSize 3097 DOSPageCount 2 DOSSiteCount 50 DOSPageInterval 1 DOSSiteInterval 1 DOSBlockingPeriod 10 </IfModule> My understanding from the setting is that if I were to click refresh or send a form more than two times in a one second interval, apache will issue a 403 error and bar me from the site for 10 seconds. But that is not happening on my localhost. And I would like to know the reason. Thanks.

  • mod-rewrite to ignore the subdomain

    - by amanuo
I'm using a mod-rewrite for pretty URLs, meant to run on the domain root. Working fine but now I'm trying to make it run on a subdomain and it keeps giving "500 Internal Server Error". The subdomain automatically redirects to the folder with that name on my hosting account (sub.domain.com shows the content of domain.com/sub/). Does it fail because this request is already being mod-rewritten automatically or can I simply change something in the htaccess to address the subdomain instead? • Url rewrite subfolder to root and forbid accessing subfolder

    - by Alessandro Pezzato
I have drupal installed in a subfolder drupal, but I want to access pages as it is in root folder: http://www.example.com instead of http://www.example.com/drupal I'm able to have this working, but it's also working with url containing subfolder, so I have http://www.example.com and a clone site in http://www.example.com/drupal What is the rule to forbid access to subfolder? • Apache inflate application/ with mod_filter

    - by BGT
I need to prevent pdf objects from being gzipped. Really, this only needs to take place if the request is from the Mozilla browser (but since I can't get something as seemingly simple as no-gzip for application/pdf, I figure it's wiser to start there). From looking at the apache documentation on mod_filter, I've got the following: <Location /> FilterDeclare gzipDeflate CONTENT_SET FilterDeclare gzipInflate CONTENT_SET FilterProvider gzipDeflate deflate req=User-Agent $Mozilla/ FilterProvider gzipInflate inflate resp=Content-Type $application/ FilterChain +gzipDeflate +gzipInflate </Location> From my testing, the gzipDeflate filter is doing its job and all the pages without the Content-Type starting with application are being gzipped. But, the gzipInflate doesn't seem to be working at all. I've inspected the response in Firebug and verified that the Content-Type being sent down is application/pdf. I'll go ahead and ask a potentially stupid question though: The response's Content-Type header in its entirety read "application/pdf; charset=Windows-1252". Does that make any sort of difference or is $application/ presumably enough to catch that? Any help is greatly appreciated. One other point, the URL that returns the pdf object does not have the .pdf extension. The pdf itself is stored in an Oracle database as a blob and appended to the page when appropriate (all the urls in the system use the same baseline). This was part of an original inquiry by a helpful member at stackoverflow who pointed me towards mod_filter and suggested I post the question here.

  • Tar and gzip together, but the other way round?

    - by Boldewyn
Gzipping a tar file as whole is drop dead easy and even implemented as option inside tar. So far, so good. However, from an archiver's point of view, it would be better to tar the gzipped single files. (The rationale behind it is, that data loss is minified, if there is a single corrupt gzipped file, than if your whole tarball is corrupted due to gzip or copy errors.) Has anyone experience with this? Are there drawbacks? Are there more solid/tested solutions for this than find folder -exec gzip '{}' \; tar cf folder.tar folder

  • mod rewrite to remove facebook query string

    - by user905752
I can't get my query string to work..please help... I have the following url: http://betatest.bracknell-forest.gov.uk/help?fb_action_ids=372043216205703&fb_action_types=og.likes&fb_source=aggregation&fb_aggregation_id=288381481237582 (sorry but the page will be unavailable as it is a test internal domain link) I want the following url: http://betatest.bracknell-forest.gov.uk/help I get a browser message saying 'The system cannot find the file specified.' I know it is because I already have a mod rewrite to remove the .htm from the page name to return clean urls but I don't know what I need to do to accept a clean url and return the page. Here is the mod rewrite code I have: RewriteRule ^/([\w]+)$ /$1.htm [I,L] #Any bare URL will get rewritten to a URL with .htm appended RedirectRule ^/(.+)\.(htm)$ http://betatest.bracknell-forest.gov.uk/$1 [R=301] RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^fb_action_ids=(.)$ #if the query string contains fb_action_ids RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} !="" #if there is a query string RewriteRule ^(.*) $1? [R=301,L] I think it is because I am using R=301 twice but do not know what I need to use as an alternative. If I append .htm from help?fb_action_ids.... to help.htm?fb_action_ids.... this returns the required page fine but I need to return the page name for the non appended url. Many thanks for any help in advance.

I have a very simple mod rewrite rule Options FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^hosted/essws/([^/]*)/$ /hosted/essws/?key=$1 [L] I would like this rewrite to activate even if the file or directory exists. For example: The URL: http://localhost/hosted/essws/candy-sweets-buffet/ Will load: http://localhost/hosted/essws/index.php?key=candy-sweets-buffet Even though the directory /hosted/essws/candy-sweets-buffet/ exists. • Redirect from folder containing website

    - by Sam
I have a website reached from this url: http://www.mysite.com/cms/index.php being served from this directory: public_html/cms/index.php In public_html I have this .htaccess RewriteRule (.*) cms/$1 [L] Which lets me get to the site like this: http://www.mysite.com/index.php But now if I reference the 'old' address, I'd like to redirect to the rewritten address with a permanent redirect code. for example: http://www.mysite.com/cms/?q=node/1 is redirected to... http://www.mysite.com/?q=node/1 How can I make this happen? EDIT: Also in the .htaccess file supplied with Drupal(cms), this is written. I've tried enabling it, but it doesn't seem to have any effect. # Modify the RewriteBase if you are using Drupal in a subdirectory or in a # VirtualDocumentRoot and the rewrite rules are not working properly. # For example if your site is at http://example.com/drupal uncomment and # modify the following line: # RewriteBase /drupal EDIT: Including more of my .htaccess file - seems relevant. # Block access to "hidden" directories whose names begin with a period. RewriteRule "(^|/)\." - [F] #Strip cms folder from url RewriteRule (.*) cms/$1 RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !=/favicon.ico RewriteRule ^ index.php [L] # Rules to correctly serve gzip compressed CSS and JS files. # Requires both mod_rewrite and mod_headers to be enabled. <IfModule mod_headers.c> # Serve gzip compressed CSS files if they exist and the client accepts gzip. • Why is piping dd through gzip so much faster than a direct copy?

    - by Foo Bar
I wanted to backup a path from a computer in my network to another computer in the same network over a 100MBit/s line. For this I did dd if=/local/path of=/remote/path/in/local/network/backup.img which gave me a very low network transfer speed of something about 50 to 100 kB/s, which would have taken forever. So I stopped it and decided to try gzipping it on the fly to make it much smaller so that the amount to transfer is less. So I did dd if=/local/folder | gzip > /remote/path/in/local/network/backup.img.gz But now I get something like 1 MB/s network transfer speed, so a factor of 10 to 20 faster. After noticing this, I tested this on several paths and files and it was always the same. Why does piping dd through gzip also increase the transfer rates by a large factor instead of only reducing the bytelength of the stream by a large factor? I'd expected even a small decrease in transfer rates instead, due to the higher CPU consumption while compressing, but now I get a double plus. Not that I'm not happy, but just wondering. ;)

  • how to gzip-compress large Ajax responses (HTML only) in Coldfusion?

    - by frequent
I'm running Coldfusion8 and jquery/jquery-mobile on the front-end. I'm playing around with an Ajax powered search engine trying to find the best tradeoff between data-volume and client-side processing time. Currently my AJAX search returns 40k of (JQM-enhanced markup), which avoids any client-side enhancement. This way I'm getting by without the page stalling for about 2-3 seconds, while JQM enhances all elements in the search results. What I'm curious is whether I can gzip Ajax responses sent from Coldfusion. If I check the header of my search right now, I'm having this: RESPONSE-header Connection Keep-Alive Content-Type text/html; charset=UTF-8 Date Sat, 01 Sep 2012 08:47:07 GMT Keep-Alive timeout=5, max=95 Server Apache/2.2.21 (Win32) mod_ssl/2.2.21 ... Transfer-Encoding chunked REQUEST-header Accept */* Accept-Encoding gzip, deflate Accept-Language de-de,de;q=0.8,en-us;q=0.5,en;q=0.3 Connection keep-alive Cookie CFID= ; CFTOKEN= ; resolution=1143 Host www.host.com Referer http://www.host.com/dev/users/index.cfm So, my request would accept gzip, deflate, but I'm getting back chunked. I'm generating the AJAX response in a cfsavecontent (called compressedHTML) and run this to eliminate whitespace <cfrscipt> compressedHTML = reReplace(renderedResults, "\>\s+\<", "> <", "ALL"); compressedHTML = reReplace(compressedHTML, "\s{2,}", chr(13), "ALL"); compressedHTML = reReplace(compressedHTML, "\s{2,}", chr(09), "ALL"); </cfscript> before sending the compressedHTML in a response object like this: {"SUCCESS":true,"DATA": compressedHTML } Question If I know I'm sending back HTML in my data object via Ajax, is there a way to gzip the response server-side before returning it vs sending chunked? If this is at all possible? If so, can I do this inside my response object or would I have to send back "pure" HTML? Thanks! EDIT: Found this on setting a 'web.config' for dynamic compression - doesn't seem to work EDIT2: Found thi snippet and am playing with it, although I'm not sure this will work. <cfscript> compressedHTML = reReplace(renderedResults, "\>\s+\<", "> <", "ALL"); compressedHTML = reReplace(compressedHTML, "\s{2,}", chr(13), "ALL"); compressedHTML = reReplace(compressedHTML, "\s{2,}", chr(09), "ALL"); if ( cgi.HTTP_ACCEPT_ENCODING contains "gzip" AND not showRaw ){ cfheader name="Content-Encoding" value="gzip"; bos = createObject("java","java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream").init(); gzipStream = createObject("java","java.util.zip.GZIPOutputStream"); gzipStream.init(bos); gzipStream.write(compressedHTML.getBytes("utf-8")); gzipStream.close(); bos.flush(); bos.close(); encoder = createObject("java","sun.misc. outStr= encoder.encode(bos.toByteArray()); compressedHTML = toString(bos.toByteArray()); } </cfscript> Probably need to try this on the response object and not the compressedTHML variable

  • Rewriting a Subdomain with mod-rewrite

    - by resonantmedia
I have a project that uses the moodle library. I had to change the URL from moodle.example.com to learn.example.com, due to a client request. I thought this would be an easy change, but alas moodle inserts all links and images in with the complete url instead of the relative url. Is it possible using mod-rewrite to point all requests to moodle.example.com to learn.example.com and maintain the query string? Example: I want a request to: http://moodle.example.com/course/view.php?id=2&topic=1 to go to http://learn.example.com/course/view.php?id=2&topic=1. Is this possible? Thanks, Josh

  • Mod-Rewrite rules are breaking 404 routing

    - by Sparky672
I am using the following mod-rewrite in my .htaccess file: RewriteRule ^$ pages/ RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ pages/$1 [L] The intention is to hide the subdirectory called /pages/ from displaying in the URL. So this: http://mysite.com/pages/home.html Will look like this: http://mysite.com/home.html It works but there are some unintended consequences. As a direct result of the .htaccess code I posted above, my 404 routing is no longer working at all. Anything that should trigger a 404 error page is instead generating a 500 Server Error. How to fix?

  • mod,prime -> inverse possible

    - by Piet
Hi all. I was wondering if one can do the following: We have: X is a product of N-primes, thus I assume unique. C is a constant. We can assure that C is a number that is part of the N-primes or not. Whichever will work best. Thus: X mod C = Z We have Z and C and we know that X was a product of N-primes, where N is restricted lets say first 100 primes. Is there anyway we can get back X?

  • Apache mod-rewrite for shorter urls

    - by Don
Is it possible do do something like this with mod-rewrite? Current url: www.example.com/Departments/dynamicPage.php?DeptID=10&DeptName=HR to set up a rewrite so: www.example.com/hr could redirect to the above (with the arguments)? I know I could create an "hr" folder on the root level and put in an html page with a meta refresh, but I hate the extra clutter. I don't think a .htaccess 301 is possible, but please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm looking for an elegant solution that can be added to for future instances.

  • phpBB3 antispam: mod for "patrolling" the forum?

    - by STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
I've been working on various antispam measure in a phpBB3-based forum I host. Now I was thinking of an extension/mod that ties in with editing of posts (and later perhaps signatures/profiles) in that new text or edited text defaults to something like "not patrolled" and moderators could then in a special queue review text that contains links or similar item (based on heuristics). Now the question: does such a mod exist (I didn't find one)? If it does exist and anyone has used it (or them), please include your experiences with it in the answer.
