  • Google Chrome extension: Use Javascript inside webkit notifications?

    I have been following the Google Chrome Extensions Developer's guide and have been able so far to create an extension with a browser action without popup that would trigger a webkit notification in HTML format. Fact is that this HTML file contains action buttons, links and javascript, but none of them seems to respond. Is this a by-design behavior or is there a way for embedding javascript/links/buttons in these webkit notifications?

    Dear beloved community! I accidentally disabled some applications from the notifications bubble. I was wondering, how can I renable the hidden applications again? I found a few answers on askubuntu and the ubuntu forums, but unfortunately the information no longer corresponds properly to the actual file system (e.g: dconf-editor - apps - nm-applet - "disable-connected-notifications" and "disable-disconnected-notifications" are disabled "unchecked", does no longer apply, I can't see anything in there except stamp = value 3). Any help would be greatly appreciated! Have a nice day!

  • What should I use to ping multiple IPs and get notified of time outs?

    I've been using MultiPing to ping hundreds of IPs (from access points and such) and check their performance (packet loss, latency) and uptime. The program is very easy to use, but I was wondering if someone could recommend me something that would work better and that would also work in Linux. The features I'm looking for are: Notification Types: At least desktop notifications and SMS, but it would be great if it also had e-mail, IM, or other types of notifications. (MultiPing has some of these, but they don't work too well.) Being notified about the root problem only: Since some devices are dependent on others, I'd like to be notified only about the root problem. E.g. Let's say I have A[x.x.x.222]B[x.x.x.33C[x.x.x.44]D[x.x.x.55], and B goes down, therefore C and D will also be down. Is it possible to get a notification only about B being down? Light on resources. Ideally multiplatform or at least available for both Linux and Windows. I've heard about Nagios and Shinken being used for monitoring. Would you recommend that I use something of the sort or would that be too much for my needs? If using Nagios, Shinken, or similar software is recommended, can anyone tell me what sites I should go to or what books I should get that would be good for someone who is totally new at this? I'd appreciate any suggestions.

    I'm currently building a homepage for our staff which is to be set as the homepage in their browser. I'm currently building the facility whereby nominated members of staff can send notifications to all staff. These will popup on their home page without the need for them to refresh the page. I've currently got the code below which worked fine for 1 notification, but there may be more than 1 at a time waiting to be shown. I've switched to outputting json but I'm not sure how to modify my code to consume it. I'm using the PeriodicalUpdater and jGrowl plugins to get this functionality, if there's better alternatives then feel free to sugget them. $.PeriodicalUpdater({ url: 'getNotifications.aspx', maxTimeout: 6000, type: 'json' }, function(data) { var message = data; if (message != '') { $.jGrowl(message, { sticky: true }); } }); As an additional piece of functionality, would it be possible to store in a cookie when a user has closed a notification so they don't see it again?   • Urban Airship - not receivng push notifications on device?

    I just installed everything to my app and tried to push, but no messages appear. The token for my device is saved so that's working. When I push, the website says it sent, but no message are received on the device. Right now I'm using a production certificate for push notifications, with a developer provision and not the distribution certificate. I tried cleaning the build and reinstalling but no luck since an extra app was installed from the same one. I used the code that is on the sample file tutorial, I think that's all the details. Don't know what to do next.

    A thirdparty vendor has provided a COM interface as an external API to their product, and for sending instructions to it, it's fine with the mechanism of generating class wrappers with visual studio by importing from the dll, then creating instances of the created classes, calling their CreateDispatch(), using the access functions and releasing when done. For return notifications, I'd normally create an EventsListener class derived from IDispatch using the Invoke function to handle events returning from the interface. This vendor has created an Events lass which I have to wrap and expose, then explicitly tell the installation where to look. all the example are given is C# where it's really easy, but I'm struggling on how to do it in C++ in the C# example, the interop dll provided is simply added as a reference and derived into a class like so: using System; using System.Runtime.InteropServices; using System.Windows.Forms; using System.Text; using <THIER INTEROP LIB> namespace some.example.namespace { [ComVisible(true)] public class EventViewer : IEvents //where IEvents is their events class { public void OnEvent(EventID EventID, object pData) //overridden function { //event handled here } } } In broad terms I assume that I must create a COM interface, since they require a ProgID from me to instantiate, but how do I derive that's been wrapped by the import and then expose the created class to COM I'm just not sure where to even start, as all the tutorials I've seen so far talk in terms of creating brand new classes not wrapping a third party one

  • Application log aggregation, management and notifications...

    I'm wondering what everyone is using for logging, log management and log aggregation on their systems. I am working in a company which uses .NET for all it's applications and all systems are Windows based. Currently each application looks after its own logging and notifications of failures (e.g. if app A fails it will send out its own 'call for help' to an admin). While this current practice works its a bit hacky and hard to manage. I've been trying to find some options for making this work better and I've come up with the following: log4net & Chainsaw (ah, if it works). Logging via log4net or another framework into a central database & rolling our own management tool. Logging to the Windows event log and using MOM or System Center Operations Manager to aggregate and manage each of these servers & their apps. A hand-rolled solution to suck all the log files into one point and work some magic across them. Essentially what we are after is something which can pull log entries all together and allow for some analytics to be run across them, plus use a kind of event based system to, for example, send out a warning email when there have been 30+ warning level logs for an application in the last x minutes. So is there anything I've missed, or something someone else can suggest?

    I would like to show a notification that displays the progress of an ongoing operation. That works well for me. But at the same time the remote view should contain cancel button to stop the ongoing operation. The usual content intent should still do something else, i.e. not cancel the ongoing operation. It seems though that I can only have one intent. I have to specify a contentIntent that is launched when clicking on the notification: If I don't specify that I get something along those lines: E/ActivityManager( 62): Activity Manager Crash E/ActivityManager( 62): java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: contentIntent required ... For the "cancel" button I set another intent: Intent cancelSyncIntent = new Intent("com.xyz.CANCEL_SYNC"); contentView.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.cancel_sync, PendingIntent.getBroadcast(context, 0, cancelSyncIntent, 0)); But this never works. I always get the content intent when the button is clicked. It looks like I cannot use buttons in remote views of notifications?! I could probably display a text: "<< Press to cancel operation ", but that seems rather heavy handed.

  • Ideas on frameworks in .NET that can be used for job processing and notifications

    Scenario: We have one instance of WCF windows service which exposes contracts like: AddNewJob(Job job), GetJobs(JobQuery query) etc. This service is consumed by 70-100 instances of client which is Windows Form based .NET app. Typically the service has 50-100 inward calls/minute to add or query jobs that are stored in a table on Sql Server. The same service is also responsible for processing these jobs in real time. It queries database every 5 seconds picks up the queued jobs and starts processing them. A job has 6 states. Queued, Pre-processing, Processing, Post-processing, Completed, Failed, Locked. Another responsibility on this service is to update all clients on every state change of every job. This means almost 200+ callbacks to clients per second. Question: This whole implementation is done using WCF Duplex bindings and works perfectly fine on small number of parallel jobs. Problem arises when we scale it up to 1000 jobs at a time. The notifications don't work as expected, it leads to memory overflow etc. Is there any standard framework that can provide a clean infrastructure for handling this scenario?? Apologies for the long explanation!

  • Mail Permissions on a File Server Resource Manager Server

    In 2008 server the File resource manager can be set up to alert users when they go over their quota etc. This is all configured however the email notifications are not working. They have been configured but the event log shows that the user does not have permission to send to the exchange server. There isnt an option to chosse who to send the email from. It's very useful, however, the notifications disappear too quickly (in about 5 seconds) and I couldn't find a way to change the display time. Ideally, I would like the notification to stay for a few minutes if there is no user activity (or about 15 seconds if there is user activity). Is that possible?

I don't think the problem appears while I set the value but maybe with pack() function. Any ideas to solve this without replacing characters with English?

  • Rogue PropertyChanged notifications from ViewModel

    The following simple program is causing me a Databinding headache. I'm new to this which is why I suspect it has a simple answer. Basically, I have two text boxes bound to the same property myString. I have not set up the ViewModel (simply a class with one property, myString) to provide any notifications to the View for when myString is changed, so even although both text boxes operate a two way binding there should be no way that the text boxes update when myString is changed, am I right? Except... In most circumstances this is true - I use the 'change value' button at the bottom of the window to change the value of myString to whatever the user types into the adjacent text box, and the two text boxes at the top, even although they are bound to myString, do not change. Fine. However, if I edit the text in TextBox1, thus changing the value of myString (although only when the text box loses focus due to the default UpdateSourceTrigger property, see reference), TextBox2 should NOT update as it shouldn't receive any updates that myString has changed. However, as soon as TextBox1 loses focus (say click inside TextBox2) TextBox2 is updated with the new value of myString. My best guess so far is that because the TextBoxes are bound to the same property, something to do with TextBox1 updating myString gives TextBox2 a notification that it has changed. Very confusing as I haven't used INotifyPropertyChanged or anything like that. To clarify, I am not asking how to fix this. I know I could just change the binding mode to a oneway option. I am wondering if anyone can come up with an explanation for this strange behaviour?     I have created Passbooks and they are loaded onto my customer's iOS devices. I need to update these Passbooks. According to the Passbook docs you need to use the Apple Push Notification Service (APNS) to trigger a pull from the iOS device in order to update the Passbook. This APNS push consists of a "push token" and a "pass type id." However, the APNS body is to be left empty. The APNS docs talk about a "device token" needed to send a push notification but make no mention of a "push token." Is an APNS "device token" the same as a Passbook "push token"? How do I send the Passbook "pass type id" in my APNS push?

  • Bulk email notifications API for social networking site

    I'm looking to build a social networking site that notifies followers of a particular user when new content has been posted by that user. Since the hope is that the site will eventually have thousands of users with thousands of followers, I'd prefer to use an outside product/service to send the emails rather than building the functionality into the application and dealing with scalability issues. I've looked at MailChimp and a few others out there. Since my use case isn't really email campaigns, these providers don't seem like the right solution. In fact, MailChimp support confirmed for me that my scenario doesn't fit for them. I'm sure others have run into this same requirement. What are others out there using? I'm using .NET so would like to target something that has a .NET wrapper if possible. Any advice would be most appreciated!
