  • Creating dynamic jQuery tooltips for dynamic content

    I'm using the qTip jQuery plugin to create tooltips for a set of links. Two problems: How do I create a set of tooltips for three dynamically generated links where the content of the tooltip will also be dynamic: a href="books.cfm?bookID=11"Book One a href="books.cfm?bookID=22"Book Two a href="books.cfm?bookID=33"Book Three I would like to create a tooltip for each link. Each tooltip will then load details about each book. Thus I must pass the bookID to the tooltip: $('#catalog a[href]').each(function() { $(this).qtip( { content: { URL: 'cfcs/viewbooks.cfc?method=bookDetails', data: { bookID: <cfoutput>#indexView.bookID#</cfoutput> }, method: 'get' } }); }); Unfortunately the above code is not working correctly. I've gotten it to work when I've used a static 'bookID' instead of a dynamically generated number. Even when it does work (by using a static number for 'bookID', I can't format the data correctly. It comes back as a query result, or a bunch of text strings. Should I send back the results as HTML? Unsure. PS: I am an absolute NOVICE to Javascript and jQuery, so please try not to be as technical. Many thanks!

  • "Tool tip" covered by ToolStripItems if they have dropdown items?

    In Windows Forms - if the dropdown items of a MenuStrip has tooltips and dropdown items themselves the tooltip will have about a 50% chance of showing up below the ToolStripItems. What is the workaround?     On euroworker.no/order (add something to the cart with Kjøp and Handlevogn). I have a tooltip that shows the picture of the product when you hover the product name, for some reason it shows above the name, but under other elements, like lines and other product names. JSFiddle of the tooltip code here. And also how can I get the tooltip to appear in the middle? I tried right:50%; but guess that's not right. Thanks.

    I have written a function that positions a tooltip just above a textbox. The function takes two arguments: textBoxId - The ID of the textbox above which the tooltip will appear.     i have an asp.net mvc site and here is a dynamic tooltip using qTip Here is my code: $('a.showNutritionInfo').each(function() { $(this).qtip({ content: { text: '<img src="../../images/ajax-loader1.gif" alt="" />', style: { width: 450 }, url: '/Tracker/NutritionInfo/' + $(this).attr('id'), method: 'get' } }); }); this works perfectly EXCEPT the width attribute listed above is ignored. No matter what i put in that width attribute, i get the same size width tooltip which is about half of the width that i need. the height is perfectly fine. any ideas? is this a bug in the product ?

  • iPad Safari's mapping of mouse events to touch events in image-maps

    My website makes extensive use of image-maps. The images are of pages from a medieval manuscript. The mouseOver event of the AREA tags has a tooltip attached to it, which displays a modern typographic transcription of the ancient script for the line the mouse is hovering over. I just checked my website out on the iPad at the Apple store. The iPad is many respects a joy to use, however, I am wondering about Apple's mapping of the mouseEvents to the finger-touch events. Apple probably had a good reason for doing things as they did, but their choices seem counterintuitive an overly complicated to me. Specifically, the iPad Safari browser clearly was responding to both fingerDown and fingerTap, and in different ways. When I tapped an area of the image-map, the tooltip wired to the mouse-over event pf the AREA tag was displayed, and remained visible until I tapped somewhere else. When I held my finger down on an area of the image-map, the area changed color. So if iPad Safari detects a mouseOver eventhandler, it executes the mouseOver code and apparently prevents the "click" event from propagating, so that if you also have something wired to the click event, it doesn't work? Is that right? But more importantly, why isn't fingerDown the iPad-Safari counterpart for mouseOver? FingerDown seems a more likely candidate than Tap when mapping the mousePOver event. I would have expected things to be mapped in this way: MouseClick : FingerTap (i.e. finger down and then immediately up) MouseOver : FingerDown (finger down and stays on the spot) If Apple had treated fingerDown as the counterpart to mouseOver, then the tooltip could be displayed upon FingerDown and made invisible again on fingerUp, which would be the counterpart to mouseOut. Perhaps someone could enlighten me about the thinking process that led Apple to these particular mouse-to-touch event-mappings? Thanks

    Hi, I am having problem getting my tooltip to work when using the jQuery load() function. The tooltip works fine if i don't use load() to load external dynamic data. I googled and found the i may need to use live(), but I can't figure how to get it to work. Any suggestion? thank you!!   • WPF ToolTip Style with dynamic LayoutTransform

    I have an app that scales it's UI and I want to scale the ToolTips with it. I have tried doing this: <Style TargetType="{x:Type ToolTip}"> <Setter Property="LayoutTransform" Value="{DynamicResource scaleTransf}"/> ... </Style> ...where scaleTransf is a resource that I change via code: Application.Current.Resources["scaleTransf"] = new ScaleTransform(...); Most of the ToolTips do get scaled in size but some of them that are created by C# code don't get scaled. I've checked and it seems that I don't set their Style or LayoutTransform by code, so I don't really understand what is going wrong... Moreover, I have the impression that the above XAML code worked fine a few days ago. :( Is there sth I can do to make it work all the time without setting the LayoutTransform in code-behind? EDIT : The ToolTips that don't change scale are the ones that have become visible before.     Hello, I am trying to give my ComboBox an in place tooltip for long strings. However when I call SetWindowPos on the tooltip, the position is never changed. Called when TTN_SHOW is received: ::SetWindowPos(textTooltip, NULL, TipRect.left, TipRect.top, 0, 0, SWP_NOSIZE | SWP_NOACTIVATE | SWP_NOZORDER); If I remove the SWP_NOSIZE flag and pop in some values into the width/height, then the combo box changes size to these values but the position remains the same. SetWindowPos always returns TRUE.   • Are there any program for showing tooltip via OCR

    Edited for clarification based on comments: At work we have an old developed program where I need to navigate on a very long dropdown list only with numbered codes. To select the correct code, I manually look at an excel list that shows the code and the name each codes corresponds with. To make matters worse, it is not possible to type in the dropdown box (only first character is recognized when typing) So my question is: Are there any program which can show the text from a predefined list, when i mouseover the various possibilities in the dropdown list? The purpose would be to be able to identify the name which corresponds to each code, without having to look at the excel list. Thanks in advance!

    HI, I've just been experimenting with a CSS tooltip that fades in with CSS3's transitions. I've got it working up to a point, but for some reason, when I hover over where it's meant to be, it activates, even though it's positioned left:-999px;. So basically, what am I doing wrong/is what I was going for possible? (Note I don't want to do anything with JS/JQuery, was just curious to see if I could do it in CSS) You can see and play with it here.

    Is anyone aware of an eclipse plugin that updates the tooltip on hover over a method/class to include annotation information? There a few libraries we are using that have annotated methods and it would be handy if I could hover over the method and see what has been applied. I realize this would only work with annotations that have been retained but that is good enough.
