  • How do I identify mouse clicks versus mouse down in games?

    What is the most common way of handling mouse clicks in games? Given that all you have in way of detecting input from the mouse is whether a button is up or down. I currently just rely on the mouse down being a click, but this simple approach limits me greatly in what I want to achieve. For example I have some code that should only be run once on a mouse click, but using mouse down as a mouse click can cause the code to run more then once depending on how long the button is held down for. So I need to do it on a click! But what is the best way to handle a click? Is a click when the mouse goes from mouse up to down or from down to up or is it a click if the button was down for less then x frames/milliseconds and then if so, is it considered mouse down and a click if its down for x frames/milliseconds or a click then mouse down? I can see that each of the approaches can have their uses but which is the most common in games? And maybe i'll ask more specifically which is the most common in RTS games?

    Helloe, i have a bash script that i need help with: #!/bin/bash if [ -f "/suid.old" ] then find / -perm -4000 -o -perm -2000 ls > suid.old else find / -perm 4000 -o -perm -2000 ls > suid.new diff suid.old suid.new > newchanges.list fi when i run it it gives me an error saying: diff: suid.old: No such file or directory. My script should say, if suid.old does not exist, then use the find command to create one, or else use find command to do whatever it needs to with the suid.new. after find any changes it made and redirect it to newchanges.list please help,

  • rc.local is not executed on bootup ubuntu

    Im on Ubuntu 10.04. I want to execute script on system boot. I added it to rc.local. If I execute rc.local manually it works fine. If I boot system in recovery mode(2nd string in boot menu) it also works fine. But if I boot normally it is not executed. However i added sleep 20 to my script and there is a pause at the end of boot process, but nothing more is executed.   • Membership Provider Parte 1

    Asp.net ha sido una de las tecnologías creadas por Microsoft de mas rápido crecimiento por la facilidad para los desarrolladores de crear sitios web. Una de las partes de mayor importancia que tiene asp.net es el contar con el Membership Provider o proveedor de Membrecía, que permite la creación, manejo y mantenimiento de un sistema completo de control y autenticación de usuarios. Para dar inicio a la serie de post que escribiré sobre que es Membeship y cuáles son las funcionalidades principales daremos unas definiciones. Tal como se menciono anteriormente con el membership provider podemos crear un sistema de control de usuarios completos, entre las funcionalidades principales podemos encontrar: * Creación de usuarios * Almacenamiento de información en base de datos * Autenticación, bloqueos y seguimiento Otras de las ventajas que cabe resaltar, es que, algunos de los controles de asp.net ya traen "naturalmente" en sus funciones la implementación del membership provider, tal como el control "Login" o los controles de estado de usuario, lo cual nos permite que con solo arrastrarlos al diseñador estén funcionando. Membership provider es poderoso, pero su funcionalidad y seguridad se ven aumentadas cuando se integra con otros proveedores de asp.net como lo son RoleProvider y Profile Provider (estos los discutiremos en otros post). En la siguiente figura, podemos ver como se distribuyen algunoS provider creados por Microsoft Antes de iniciar con la implementación de membership debes conocer cosas básicas como el espacio de nombres al que pertenece, el cual es: System.Web.Security que se encuentra dentro del ensamblado System.Web. Algo que debe tomarse en cuenta, es que, para poder utilizar cualquiera de los miembros de la clase, debemos hacer la referencia respectiva. Por defecto, el membership provider está diseñado para trabajar directamente con SQL Server, de ahí que su nombre completo seria SQL Membership Provider. Sin embargo, debido a su gran flexibilidad podemos extenderlo a cualquier base de datos o bien modificarlo para adapatarlo a nuestras necesidades. En los siguientes posts, discutiremos como crear un proveedor personalizado utilizando Entity Framework, separando las capas de acceso y datos y cuáles son las principales funciones que podemos aplicar.   • Am I misunderstanding chown and chmod?

    I want to either extend the size of my guest partition or figure out how to copy stuff from the guest partition to my normal /home directory. (Because of some other problems I can only run Xorg as guest, but I can log into virtual console as myself or root.) Here's the motivation: I want to torrent a large file. It's larger than my guest filesystem. But I have plenty of space on my real drive, I just can't log into it graphically. So I tried to set up a "pipe" to get the file out of the tmpfs. I did: su -u myself #catch mkdir ~/receiver_dir sudo su cd /tmp/guest-lkj567UIO/ #throw ln -s mario_pipe /home/myself/receiver_dir chown -R guest-lkj567UIO /home/myself/receiver_dir chown -R guest-lkj567UIO /tmp/guest-lkj567UIO/mario_pipe chmod -R a+rw /home/myself/receiver_dir chmod -R a+rw /tmp/guest-lkj567UIO/mario_pipe su -u guest-lkj567UIO cd /tmp/guest-lkj567UIO cd mario_pipe touch something #success! However, when I try to torrent to /tmp/guest-lkj567UIO/mario_pipe, Transmission says I don't have write permissions. But it looks like I just wrote there? And that everybody (a+rw) can write there in fact? Maybe this indicates I don't actually understand chown and chmod but nothing from their man pages pops out.

  • Level design - Are games development degrees worth it? [on hold]

    I want to go into Level design or Environment design and wondering if degrees are at all worth it for this area, as long as you have a good portfolio. I'm currently on a "Computing and Games Development" course and I feel like dropping out because I am not enjoying it. It's mostly computer based, which I'm not doing that great at, and little games Dev. But I don't know what do to... I do already have some high level education with a "Level 3 extended diploma".   • Cocoa QuickLook initiated by NSTableView Cell

    I have an NSTableView that contains 2 different Columns - one is an NSImageCell that shows a file icon, and the second is a custom subclass of NSTextFieldCell that contains a quick look button on the right of the text. When I click the Quick Look button, the following code is invoked: [[QLPreviewPanel sharedPreviewPanel] makeKeyAndOrderFront:nil]; This does it's job and shows the blank Quick Look panel saying "No Items Selected." After I did a bit of research on the internet, I implemented a custom NSTableView subclass to be the Delegate and Data Source for the Quick Look panel. I get the notification that Quick Look asks if I want to be the delegate, and I respond with return YES.   • Cientos de Directores Financieros se congregaron en el evento “Innovación y Excelencia en la Función Financiera”

APD, en colaboración con Oracle, organizaron esta jornada con el objetivo de analizar el proceso de transformación del Director Financiero en las compañías (aquí puedes ver un estudio sobre ello). Enrique Sanchez de Leon, Director de APD, fue el encargado de abrir la jornada con una calurosa bienvenida a los invitados. Tras él, Fernando Rumbero, Iberia Applications Cluster Leader de Oracle , comenzó dando unas pinceladas sobre los cambios a los que los Directores Financieros deben estar preparados para convertirse en parte de la estrategia de la compañía. Después de que todos los ponentes fueran presentados y se acomodaran en su lugar del escenario de aquella gran sala, Oriol Farré, Presales Director de Oracle, tomó la palabra para profundizar sobre el nuevo rol estratégico del Director Financiero y cómo éste se está convirtiendo cada vez más en el catalizador del cambio dentro de las empresas (¿tú lo eres? aquí hablamos de cómo puedes evaluarlo) Por su parte, Maria Jesús Carrato, Profesora de Dirección Financiera Internacional en el IE y Directora Financiera del Grupo SM mostró su visión sobre cómo serán los Departamentos Financieros del futuro. Después llego el turno de Ramón Arguelaguet, Financial Controller & Reporting Senior Manager de Vodafone, que profundizo en la innovación y la transformación lideradas por los Directores Financieros dentro de las organizaciones. Por último, pero no menos importante, Juan Jesús Donoso, Director Económico de Cruz Roja Española, nos mostro el punto de vista de la gestión de una organización sin ánimo de lucro. Finalmente, en la mesa redonda, cada uno de los integrantes dio su punto de vista sobre el nuevo rol de Director Financiero y los nuevos retos a los que se enfrentan. El broche final de la jornada la puso el coctel para abrir paso a un espacio de networking que sin duda los cientos de Directores Financieros aprovecharon para intercambiar puntos de vista, conocer a nuevos compañeros y reencontrarse con muchos otros.   • How to have an iCalendar (RFC 2445) repeat YEARLY with duration

    I have been unsuccessful in formulating a RRULE that would allow an event as shown below: Repeats YEARLY, from first Sunday of April to last day of May, occuring on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, until forever. FREQ=YEARLY;BYMONTH=4;BYDAY=SU (gives me the first Sunday of April repeating yearly) and FREQ=YEARLY;BYMONTH=5;BYMONTHDAY=-1 (gives me the last day of May repeating yearly) But I can't figure out how to have the event repeat yearly between those dates for Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Suggestions? Update: Comments don't have enough space to respond to Chris' answer, so I am editing the question with further information. Unfortunately, no. I don't know if it is the DDay.iCal library I'm using, or what, but that doesn't work either. I've found that the date start can't be an ordinal date (first Sunday, etc.)..it has to be a specific date, which makes it difficult for my requirements.   • Xforwarding doesn't allow for switching users

    I'm ssh'd into a remote computer and xforwarding is working fine... but as soon as I "sudo su -" or "sudo su user2" it no longer Xforwards anything giving me the error: X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication. xterm Xt error: Can't open display: localhost:10.0 Any Ideas? Thanks

    On my Media Temple DV 4.0 server I am getting permission denied errors: -bash: cd: httpdocs: Permission denied If I switch from my login user to sudo (sudo su) or switch to root using su-, I can access the directory with any issue. This is just my site's files directory though so not sure why I'm being denied. Additionally, I added my user to the visudo commands file with: user ALL=(ALL) ALL Any suggestions to what else could be the issue?

  • How can I set PivotField.Calculation in Excel/VSTO?

    I'm trying to set the Calculation property on an OLAP PivotField with VSTO 3.0. For example: pivotField.Calculation = XlPivotFieldCalculation.PercentOf; If I do the above, the value I assign does not stay (Excel appears to revert the change). I suspect the reason is that the BaseField property of the PivotField also needs to be populated (as PercentOf needs a BaseField). But it appears to me that you can't set the BaseField property until you've set the Calculation property (otherwise you get a COMException). I've tried to set ManualUpdate on the PivotTable to true, but with VSTO this rarely works, as this gets reverted immediately back to false. Note, that this seems to work fine in VBA as you can assign multiple values in a single statement, like this: With ActiveSheet.PivotTables("PivotTable1").PivotFields("[Measures].[Reseller Sales Amount]") .Calculation = xlPercentOf .BaseField = "[Geography].[Geography].[Country]" .BaseItem = "[Geography].[Geography].[Country].&[France]" .NumberFormat = "0.00%" End With But with C#/VSTO there's no construct like this (that I know of) and I'm stuck not able to do something like the above. Further note, Calculation values that don't require a BaseField, e.g., XlPivotFieldCalculation.xlPercentOfTotal, get set just fine. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

    We have a VSTO application-addin (not a document-addin) for Excel, and we want to expose an event to VBA code so that the VBA macro can do some action when this event fires in the addin. How can I get the VBA code to be able to subscribe to an event defined in the VSTO application-addin? I'd think that since the addin is loaded in the Excel process, this shouldn't be too tricky, but haven't found a way yet. BTW, using VS 2008 and Excel 2007. Thanks!

  • Drupal 7: How can I create a key/value field(or field group, if that's even possible)?

    Let's say I'm creating some app documentation. In creating a content type for functions, I have a text field for name, a box for a general description, and a couple other basic things. Now I need something for storing arguments to the function. Ideally, I'd like to input these as key-value pairs, or just two related fields, which can then be repeated as many times as needed for the given function. But I can't find any way to accomplish this. The closest I've gotten is an abandonded field multigroup module that says to wait for CCK3, which hasn't even produced an alpha yet as far as I can tell and whose project page makes no obvious mention of this multi-group functionality. I also checked the CCK issue queue and don't think I saw it in there, either. Is there a current viable way of doing this I'm not seeing? Viable includes "you're thinking of this the wrong way and do X instead." I've considered using a "Long text and summary" field, but that smells hackish and I don't know if I'd be setting myself up for side-effects. I'm new to Drupal.
