  • Using using a DVI instead of a VGA increase computer screen monitor resolution

    This is for a computer screen. Both my video card and computer screen have DVI ports on them but I'm using a VGA. I'm wondering if there would be a difference if i switch from VGA to DVI. My current resolution is 1920x1080 with the VGA cord. will my resolution increase if i switch to a DVI? Are there any advantage of switching from VGA to DVI? If there will be a difference if i switch, I've read there are 5 different type of DVI cables. how do I know which one to buy?

My current config to connect to another servers is using different port to connect. e.g ssh -D 1080 -p 22 [email protected] ssh -D 1081 -p 22 [email protected] Now what I would like to have to share the same port from the same box. ssh -D 1080 -p 22 [email protected] ssh -D 1080 -p 22 [email protected] But when I share it, I will get below error: bind: Address already in use channel_setup_fwd_listener: cannot listen to port: 1080 Could not request local forwarding. How could I configure the same port? help. thank you. I want to share the same port because this is needed when configuring firewall in Citrix Firewall on other machine, not needed to many many ports and keep changing when changing connection. thank you.

  • ssh connection slow when using @hostname.com but now when using @ipaddress

    When connecting to a Debian server using ssh, if I use [email protected] (the IP address of hte server) the connection is instant. If however I use [email protected] (a DNS redirected to the IP address of the server) the ssh connection hangs for a 20 seconds before connecting successfully. The ssh logs show the following: [alex@alex home]$ ssh -v -v [email protected] OpenSSH_5.5p1, OpenSSL 1.0.0c-fips 2 Dec 2010 debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config debug1: Applying options for * debug2: ssh_connect: needpriv 0 and here it hangs during 20 seconds before continuing. I think it might have something to do with reverse DNS or similar (the server does not really "know" it's name is hostname.com, it just has that DNS rediriected to its IP address). I have added the following options to /etc/ssh/sshd_config: UseDNS no GSSAPIAuthentication no to no effect. The server's DNS records in /etc/resolv.conf are configured correctly: ping hostname.com PING sub.domain.com (X.X.X.X) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from replicant (X.X.X.X): icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.029 ms 64 bytes from replicant (X.X.X.X): icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.050 ms?s Thanks for the help. Solution: It seems the DSL router my ISP saddled me with was causing the trouble. Changing my DNS server from 192.168.1.1 (router's IP) to google's (8.8.8.8, always good to know when you are in a hurry) instantly solved the connection delay problem. I am guessing that the 50€ router provided does not cache DNS entries, although I don't understand why pinging the DNS address had no delay, and 20 seconds is too long of a wait, even for uncached DNS.   • Using radvd to advertise ipv6 over VPN connection using DD-wrt

    My ultimate goal is to allow VPN users to have access to my internal IPv6 network from across the intertubes. I've got a linksys WRT54GSv2 running DD-WRTv24SP1 and have configured the little guy as specified here http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/IPv6 and it works wonderfully over the br0 interface (LAN/WLAN bridge). Here's the issue though, when I add an additional interface to the radvd config file on the router (specifically ppp0, for the VPN traffic), radvd refuses to start. The kicker is that on DDWRT, it doesn't give an error message, it just fails outright. In my mind doing this just add's to the complexity and should not be done, it should be fixed or fluid using strictly css and no server-side languages to generate layouts based on the device size..   • What is the best workaround for the WCF client `using` block issue?

    I like instantiating my WCF service clients within a using block as it's pretty much the standard way to use resources that implement IDisposable: using (var client = new SomeWCFServiceClient()) { //Do something with the client } But, as noted in this MSDN article, wrapping a WCF client in a using block could mask any errors that result in the client being left in a faulted state (like a timeout or communication problem). Long story short, when Dispose() is called, the client's Close() method fires, but throws and error because it's in a faulted state. The original exception is then masked by the second exception. Not good. The suggested workaround in the MSDN article is to completely avoid using a using block, and to instead instantiate your clients and use them something like this: try { ... client.Close(); } catch (CommunicationException e) { ... client.Abort(); } catch (TimeoutException e) { ... client.Abort(); } catch (Exception e) { ... client.Abort(); throw; } Compared to the using block, I think that's ugly. And a lot of code to write each time you need a client. Luckily, I found a few other workarounds, such as this one on IServiceOriented. The workaround I'm currently trying to use I first read about on blog.davidbarret.net. Basically you override the client's Dispose() method wherever you use it. Something like: public partial class SomeWCFServiceClient : IDisposable { void IDisposable.Dispose() { if (this.State == CommunicationState.Faulted) { this.Abort(); } else { this.Close(); } } } This appears to be able to allow the using block again without the danger of masking a faulted state exception. So, are there any other gotchas I have to look out for using these workarounds? Has anybody come up with anything better?

  • Log a user in to an ASP.net application using Windows Authentication without using Windows Authentic

    I have an ASP.net application I'm developing authentication for. I am using an existing cookie-based log on system to log users in to the system. The application runs as an anonymous account and then checks the cookie when the user wants to do something restricted. This is working fine. However, there is one caveat: I've been told that for each page that connects to our SQL server, I need to make it so that the user connects using an Active Directory account. because the system I'm using is cookie based, the user isn't logged in to Active Directory. Therefore, I use impersonation to connect to the server as a specific account. However, the powers that be here don't like impersonation; they say that it clutters up the code. I agree, but I've found no way around this. It seems that the only way that a user can be logged in to an ASP.net application is by either connecting with Internet Explorer from a machine where the user is logged in with their Active Directory account or by typing an Active Directory username and password. Neither of these two are workable in my application. I think it would be nice if I could make it so that when a user logs in and receives the cookie (which actually comes from a separate log on application, by the way), there could be some code run which tells the application to perform all network operations as the user's Active Directory account, just as if they had typed an Active Directory username and password. It seems like this ought to be possible somehow, but the solution evades me. How can I make this work? Update To those who have responded so far, I apologize for the confusion I have caused. The responses I've received indicate that you've misunderstood the question, so please allow me to clarify. I have no control over the requirement that users must perform network operations (such as SQL queries) using Active Directory accounts. I've been told several times (online and in meat-space) that this is an unusual requirement and possibly bad practice. I also have no control over the requirement that users must log in using the existing cookie-based log on application. I understand that in an ideal MS ecosystem, I would simply dis-allow anonymous access in my IIS settings and users would log in using Windows Authentication. This is not the case. The current system is that as far as IIS is concerned, the user logs in anonymously (even though they supply credentials which result in the issuance of a cookie) and we must programmatically check the cookie to see if the user has access to any restricted resources. In times past, we have simply used a single SQL account to perform all queries. My direct supervisor (who has many years of experience with this sort of thing) wants to change this. He says that if each user has his own AD account to perform SQL queries, it gives us more of a trail to follow if someone tries to do something wrong. The closest thing I've managed to come up with is using WIF to give the user a claim to a specific Active Directory account, but I still have to use impersonation because even still, the ASP.net process presents anonymous credentials to the SQL server. It boils down to this: Can I log users in with Active Directory accounts in my ASP.net application without having the users manually enter their AD credentials? (Windows Authentication)

    I am using M2Eclipse (0.10.0, Maven 3)in projects. I can add Maven dependency using m2eclipse. But dependency jars couldn't be downloaded. Instead, it created a file in each local repo folder named [JAR_Name].jar.lastupdate. The content of this file is some thing like : http\://[REPO_URL]/central/=1276221188566 Even using Maven 3 command line. Jars couldn't be downloaded. Any idea about how could this happen?

  • Using JSF, PrimeFaces and JPA: Create Basic WebApp without using Generated CRUD Classes, Forms, etc

    I am trying to build a basic CRUD application with NetBeans 7.4, JSF, PrimeFaces and JPA using MySQL. I have successfully done this by using the NetBeans wizards. I want to do this from scratch, no wizards. There seems to be a lack of support for the combo of JSF, PrimeFaces and JPA. When I say "lack", I mean a full example (I might be asking too much), without using the CRUD auto-gen templates/classes AND shows actual queries coded and passed to the datatables(primefaces). YouTube is full of non-English speaking examples using Hibernate (not JPA) and other examples that show flashy GUI's with no code. So far I understand you need an @Entity class (provides the physical build of the tables), a Controller (serializable) and the .xhtml web page to show the datatable.. what else? Also, I'm not seeing any posts or examples where queries are using with JPA/JSF and how they are tied together (in one place). I need to connect the dots here so that I can leverage JSF/JPA to create simple queries to populate my PF DataTables. I've read the blogs and I've googled the intranets until I'm blue in the face. Sending me a list of URL's to read to learn about each product is something I've already done. I get what they do independently, but am looking for the "How do they all connect" answer with maybe some basic code examples!! :)

  • Can I write to different jetty databases using JPA that is using the same "entity class"

    I am using Java persistance and there EntityManager class and have it assigned to storage a class object that shall be written to the database. My problem is that I want to write to different databases using the same storage class. My solution to that was to write a StorageManagerfactory that has a Map holding all EntityManagers. The solution looked good until I looked at the databases and realized that all information (undepending of the Map, which gets the correct value) was written to the same database (one of the initialised in the Map). So my question is: Can I write to different databases using JPA that is using the same storage class (the class holding the structure of my database)? Thanks

    First of all I'll just put both these patterns in context and describe their intent as in the GOF book: Factory Method: Define an interface for creating an object, but let subclasses decide which class to instantiate. Factory Method lets a class defer instantiation to subclasses.   Abstract Factory: Provide an interface for creating families of related or dependent objects without specifying their concrete classes.   Points to note:   Abstract factory pattern adds a layer of abstraction to the factory method pattern. The type of factory is not known to the client at compile time, this information is passed to the client at runtime (How it is passed is again dependent on the system, you may store this information in configuration files and the client can read it on execution). While implementing Abstract factory pattern, the factory classes can have multiple factory methods.   • Using jQuery to listen for an AJAX load that is not loaded using jQuery.AJAX

    Okay, have a bit of a tricky one (for me anyway, i'm pretty rubbish at jQuery/JavaScript). I'm pulling in data using standard AJAX (ie, NOT using a framework like jQuery or whatnot... there is a reason for it) However, I then need to load up a jQuery script as soon as the page has been loaded in. So, here is the question, how do I bind the script once the DOM has been updated? I have been using Ariel Fleser's listen plugin (http://flesler.blogspot.com/2007/10/jquerylisten.html) for picking up on events such as clicks which works a treat, but I can't see how this can be used to listen for a load event. Any ideas? I'm pretty stumped on this one!!

  • Delphi Compiler Directive to Evaluate Arguments in Reverse

    I was really impressed with this delphi two liner using the IFThen function from Math.pas. However, it evaluates the DB.ReturnFieldI first, which is unfortunate because I need to call DB.first to get the first record. DB.RunQuery('select awesomedata1 from awesometable where awesometableid = "great"'); result := IfThen(DB.First = 0, DB.ReturnFieldI('awesomedata1')); Obviously this isn't such a big deal, as I could make it work with five robust liners. But all I need for this to work is for Delphi to evaluate DB.first first and DB.ReturnFieldI second. I don't want to change math.pas and I don't think this warrants me making a overloaded ifthen because there's like 16 ifthen functions. Just let me know what the compiler directive is, if there is an even better way to do this, or if there is no way to do this and anyone whose procedure is to call db.first and blindly retrieve the first thing he finds is not a real programmer.

  • How to determine whether a .NET exception is being handled?

    We're investigating a coding pattern in C# in which we'd like to use a "using" clause with a special class, whose Dispose() method does different things depending on whether the "using" body was exited normally or with an exception. To the best of my understanding, the CLR keeps track of the current exception being handled until it's been consumed by a "catch" handler. However it's not entirely clear whether this information is exposed in any way for the code to access. Do you know whether it is, and if so, how to access it? For example: using (var x = new MyObject()) { x.DoSomething(); x.DoMoreThings(); } class MyObject : IDisposable { public void Dispose() { if (ExceptionIsBeingHandled) Rollback(); else Commit(); } } This looks almost like System.Transactions.TransactionScope, except that success/failure is not determined by a call to x.Complete(), but rather based on whether the using body was exited normally.
