• What steps are required to get DB2 working again after renaming the Windows XP system it was running on?

  I think this is a fairly well known problem, but I haven't found a really solid solution to add to my toolbox. Here's the sequence of steps that leads to the problem: Install Windows (e.g., XP), naming the system XXX Install DB2 and create some databases Rename the system from XXX to YYY (via the System control panel's Computer Name tab Reboot and find DB2 unable to start How can I get DB2 up and running again without having to reinstall it and without having to rename the system back to XXX? I did find a blog post that hints at some registry values to tweak, but I'm hoping the SF community can come up with a solution in which I can have more confidence.

• Cannot connect Solaris 10 to Windows 7

  I'm trying to connect a Solaris VM (powered by VMware Player) to Windows Explorer in Windows 7. When I try to map the network drive I get the following: The specified server cannot perform the requested operation. I am using the following URL which has worked on a machine I used before. The only thing that has changed is the IP address of the Solaris machine. I am able to connect to the VM via putty. \\1.2.3.4\xxx\yyy I checked and I think samba is running.. root 375 1 0 09:53:39 ? 0:00 /usr/sfw/sbin/smbd -D root 376 375 0 09:53:40 ? 0:00 /usr/sfw/sbin/smbd –D Anyone any ideas?

• How should code reviews be Carried Out?

  My previous question has to do with how to advance code reviews among the developers. Here I am interested in how a code review session should be carried out, so that both the reviewer and reviewed are feeling comfortable with it. I have done some code reviews before and the experience has been very unpleasant. My previous manager would come to us --on an ad hoc basis-- and tell us to explain our code to him. Since he wasn't very familiar with the code base, whenever he would ask me to explain my code, I'd find myself spending a huge amount of time explaining the most basic structure of my code. As a result, each review would last much too long, and the process would leave both of us exhausted. Once I was done explaining my work, he would continue by raising issues with it. Most of the issues he raised were cosmetic in nature ( e.g, don't use region for this code block, change the variable name from xxx to yyy even though the later makes even less sense, and so on). After trying this process for few rounds, we found the review session didn't derive much benefits for either of us, and we stopped. How would you go about making each code review a natural, enjoyable, thought stimulating, bug-fixing and mutual-learning experience? Also, how frequently you do your code reviews - as soon as the code is checked in? Do you allocate a fixed time every week to do this? What are the guidelines that you follow during your code reviews?

  We need to insert a web beacon (i know taboo) in to adobe PDFs to know when they are opened, as one of our clients is moving to a model of "giving" their documents away and following up repeat viewers for subscriptions. Its not enough to be able to provide a download, they want to attach the PDF to an email and "blast" to directed recipients (double-opt-in etc). Adding the javascript to the pdf is easy enough: (iText) and the "openAction" event. However the security box pops up and displays: "Security Warning" "Document is trying to connect to 'xxxx.yyy.com' if you trusty the site choose Allow. If do not trust the site choose Block" [help] [allow] [block] I don't think we need to completley overhaul the dialogue box, I just think we need to change the middle text to be more descriptive of why we are doing it.   This is not a homework. I am asking to see if problem is classical (trivial) or non-trivial. It looks simple on a surface, and I hope it is truly a simple problem. Have N points (N = 2) with coordinates Xn, Yn on a surface of 2D solid body. Solid body has some small rotation (below Pi/180) combined with small shifts (below 1% of distance between any 2 points of N). Possibly some small deformation too (<<0.001%) Same N points have new coordinates named XXn, YYn Calculate with best approximation the location of center of rotation as point C with coordinates XXX, YYY.   Hello, I want to make sure all getters of the classes in a certain package follow a given template. For example, all getters must be of the form: XXX getYYY(){ classLock.lock(); return YYY; finally{ classLock.unlock(); } } Basically, I want that my project will not compile/run unless all getters are of that form.   Hey all I'm creating a custom column in a feature for Sharepoint. It is essentially this: <Field Type="Integer" ID="<insert guid here>" ReadOnly="true" Name="xxx" DisplayName="XXX" Group="YYY" /> When the field is deployed and attached to a content type, the content type shows no instance of this field being attached. The documentation about ReadOnly is a bit vague but definitely states that the column will be available for viewing in a View. However, when I create a view it is not available. The moment I remove ReadOnly from the field, it is available on the content type without any problems. Any ideas?

  When the user visits a page that contains a signed ActiveX control that has never been seen before, I'd expect IE to ask the user for permission to install the control. But sometimes IE puts up a security warning instead. For example, consider this site, which has a test control: http://www.pcpitstop.com/testax.asp I'd expect to get this message -- and sometimes, I do: "The website wants to run the following add-on: 'XXX' from 'YYY'. If you trust the the website and the add-on and want to allow it to run, click here..." But under IE8 on XP, I usually get this instead: "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this site from showing certain content. Click here for options..." What's going on?   I'm the process of moving applications over from all in the public schema to each having their own schema. for each application, I have a small script that will create the schema and then create the tables,functions,etc... to that schema. Is there anyway to automatically add a newly created schema to the search_path? Currently, the only way I see is to find the users current path SHOW search_path; and then add the new schema to it SET search_path to xxx,yyy,zzz; I would like some way to just say, append schema zzz to the users_search path. is this possible?

  I have a NoSQL system for storing real estate houses. One piece of information I have in my key-value store for each house is the longitude and latitude. If I wanted to retrieve all houses within a geo-lat/long box, like the SQL below: SELECT * from houses WHERE latitude IS BETWEEN xxx AND yyy AND longitude IS BETWEEN www AND zzz Question: How would I do this type of retrival with NoSQL ... using just a key-value store system? • ADO "Unspecified Error" instead of actual error when fetching server side cursor

  This relates to my recent question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2835663/force-oracle-error-on-fetch I am now able to reproduce a scenario where using ADO with the Oracle OLEDB Provider, I can force an error such as ORA-01722: invalid number to occur on calling Recordset.MoveNext However, this is not the error that is returned to the application. Instead, the application sees Provider error '80004005' Unspecified error. How can I get the application to see the real error from the database? This is with Oracle 10g (client and server), if it matters. • Ruby on Rails - Currency : commas causing an issue.

  Looking on SO, I see that the preferred way to currency using RoR is using decimal(8,2) and to output them using number_to_currency(); I can get my numbers out of the DB, but I'm having issues on getting them in. Inside my update action I have the following line: if @non_labor_expense.update_attributes(params[:non_labor_expense]) puts YAML::dump(params) The dump of params shows the correct value. xx,yyy.zz , but what gets stored in the DB is only xx.00 What do I need to do in order to take into account that there may be commas and a user may not enter .zz (the cents). Some regex and for comma? how would you handle the decimal if it were .2 versus .20 . There has to be a builtin or at least a better way. • Automatic Hudson CI setup and plugin updates through apt?

  Hi! We've used Hudson for quite a while to implement a CI server with all the bells and whistles. The setup is quite straight forward, when installing from the provided RPMs and Debs, but through googling I haven't been able to figure out whether the plugins are installable using apt/rpm or some other package manager? The reason is that I would like to create a (meta)package for Ubuntu which would install and also update both Hudson and all the plugins through the normal upgrade mechanism. At the same time I could create a template setup for other projects, say JavaEE project needs git, cobertura and Chuck Norris plugins, while my Python project needs plugins XXX and YYY. Anybody got such a setup? As a workaround I figured setting up a number of Maven POMs, which would do the init, and later upgrades, but I feel this would require more scripting on the side, which I'm not very eager to do. Any other suggestions for this would also be appreciated.

When I test out the application on my computer I want to have my connection string set as follows in ServiceConfiguration.cscfg: <Setting name="DataConnectionString" value="UseDevelopmentStorage=true" /> When I publish to the cloud I need to have it set as follows: <Setting name="DataConnectionString" value="DefaultEndpointsProtocol=https;AccountName=xxxx;AccountKey=yyy" /> I keep going from one environment to the other and keep having to change the DataConnectionString. For example, my current directory tree looks like this: /apps /AAA /BBB /CCC /libs /XXX /YYY /ZZZ And I would like this instead: /apps /AAA /libs /XXX The --subdirectory-filter argument to git filter-branch won't work because it gets rid of everything except for the given directory the first time it's run. I thought using the --index-filter argument for all unwanted files would work (albeit tedious), but if I try running it more than once, I get the following message: Cannot create a new backup. A previous backup already exists in refs/original/ Force overwriting the backup with -f Any ideas? TIA

• A submenu (`ToolStripMenuItem`) does not show automatically.

  I have encountered strange problem with a three-level context menu. In some situation the sub menu does not show automatically. I have following structure of the menu: * AAA - level 1 * BBB - level 1 * CCC - level 2 * xxx - level 3 * yyy - level 3 * DDD - level 2 * zzz - level 3 * vvv - level 3 I start from a menu with two option AAA and BBB. After I move the cursor over BBB the second-level menu appears with two other options CCC and DDD. So far OK. Now, when I quickly move the cursor over DDD the third-level sub menu does not show up, but when I move the cursor back to CCC the sub menu shows up, and when I go back to DDD then the sub menu also shows. Why it does not show at first time? Have you ever encountered such a problem? I fixed the problem with MouseEnter and MouseLeave events, but I still wonder why it does not work properly without the events.
