  • problem in loading images from web

    - by Lynnooi
    hi, I am new in android and had developed an app which get images from the website and display it. I got it working in emulator but not in real phones. In some device, it will crash or take very long loading period. Can anyone please help me or guide me in improving it as i'm not sure whether the way i loads the images is correct or not. Here are the code i use to get the images from the web and display accordingly. if (xmlURL.length() != 0) { try { URL url = new URL(xmlURL); SAXParserFactory spf = SAXParserFactory.newInstance(); SAXParser sp = spf.newSAXParser(); /* Get the XMLReader of the SAXParser we created. */ XMLReader xr = sp.getXMLReader(); /* * Create a new ContentHandler and apply it to the * XML-Reader */ xr.setContentHandler(myExampleHandler); /* Parse the xml-data from our URL. */ xr.parse(new InputSource(url.openStream())); /* Parsing has finished. */ /* * Our ExampleHandler now provides the parsed data to * us. */ ParsedExampleDataSet parsedExampleDataSet = myExampleHandler.getParsedData(); } catch (Exception e) { } } if (s.equalsIgnoreCase("wallpapers")) { Context context = helloAndroid.this.getBaseContext(); for (int j = 0; j <= myExampleHandler.filenames.size() - 1; j++) { if (myExampleHandler.filenames.elementAt(j).toString() != null) { helloAndroid.this.ed = myExampleHandler.thumbs.elementAt(j) .toString(); if (helloAndroid.this.ed.length() != 0) { Drawable image = ImageOperations(context, helloAndroid.this.ed, "image.jpg"); file_info = myExampleHandler.filenames .elementAt(j).toString(); author = "\nby " + myExampleHandler.authors.elementAt(j) .toString(); switch (j + 1) { case 1: ImageView imgView1 = new ImageView(context); imgView1 = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.image1); if (image.getIntrinsicHeight() > 0) { imgView1.setImageDrawable(image); } else imgView1 .setImageResource(R.drawable.empty_wallpaper); tv = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.filename1); tv.setText(file_info); tv = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.author1); tv.setText(author); imgView1 .setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View view) { // Perform action on click Intent myIntent1 = new Intent( helloAndroid.this, galleryFile.class); Bundle b = new Bundle(); b.putString("fileID",myExampleHandler.fileid.elementAt(0).toString()); b.putString("page", "1"); b.putString("family", s); b.putString("fi",myExampleHandler.folder_id.elementAt(folder).toString()); b.putString("kw", keyword); myIntent1.putExtras(b); startActivityForResult( myIntent1, 0); } }); break; case 2: ImageView imgView2 = new ImageView(context); imgView2 = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.image2); imgView2.setImageDrawable(image); tv = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.filename2); tv.setText(file_info); tv = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.author2); tv.setText(author); imgView2 .setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View view) { // Perform action on click Intent myIntent1 = new Intent( helloAndroid.this, galleryFile.class); Bundle b = new Bundle(); b.putString("fileID",myExampleHandler.fileid.elementAt(1).toString()); b.putString("page", "1"); b.putString("family", s); b.putString("fi",myExampleHandler.folder_id.elementAt(folder).toString()); b.putString("kw", keyword); myIntent1.putExtras(b); startActivityForResult( myIntent1, 0); } }); break; case 3: //same code break; } } } } } private Drawable ImageOperations(Context ctx, String url, String saveFilename) { try { InputStream is = (InputStream) this.fetch(url); Drawable d = Drawable.createFromStream(is, "src"); return d; } catch (MalformedURLException e) { e.printStackTrace(); return null; } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); return null; } } public Object fetch(String address) throws MalformedURLException, IOException { URL url = new URL(address); Object content = url.getContent(); return content; }

  • Porting from GAE to TomCat or another servlet server

    - by bach
Hi guys, I'm unhappy from GAE because - One can't have a global variable and the 'synchronize' keyword. Instead one have to catch a basically DB transcational exception and retry in a while loop - which will eat all my free CPU time and will start costing me money as I reach the google's qouata. Is it safe to use synchronize inside a doPost() in tomcat? (i guess that it's ok as long as all the servlets are running on on 1 VM?). If not in all tomcat configurations, how do I configure tomcat to make it safe? How can I convert a GAE app to my own tomcat server? - How to install DataNucleus Access Platform on tomcat? Best regards

  • It is okay to migrate to Asp.NET 4.0 now?

    - by Tarik
Okay today, as most of you noticed Framework 4.0 has been released. I've been working on a project which is being built on framework 3.5. Since I want to use dynamic keyword and most of the asp.net features like Tableless Menu Control, ClientIDMode and clean web.config etc. I am kinda urging to migrate the unfinished project to 4.0 but I am little hesitating about that. Some times I think it is way better to wait for SP1. So what do you think about it? You guys will migrate to unfinished projects or will still hang out with 3.5 for a while. Thanks.

  • warning C6242: A jump out of this try-block forces local unwind

    - by Benjamin
When we use SEH with __finally block, if we do return in __try block, it causes a local unwind. To Local unwind, the system need to approximately 1000 instructions. The local unwind causes a warning C6242. MSDN suggests using __leave keyword(with saving a return value). But I don't think it's a good idea. If we save a return value and leave the block, there will be many mistakes. Is the waring really necessary? What do you prefer?

  • Microsoft T-SQL to Oracle PL/SQL translation

    - by Michael Prewecki
I've worked with T-SQL for years but i've just moved to an organisation that is going to require writing some Oracle stuff, probably just simple CRUD operations at least until I find my feet. I'm not going to be migrating databases from one to the other simply interacting with existing Oracle databases from an Application Development perspective. Is there are tool or utility available to easily translate T-SQL into PL/SQL, a keyword mapper is the sort of thing I'm looking for. P.S. I'm too lazy to RTFM, besides it's not going to be a big part of my role so I just want something to get me up to speed a little faster.

  • iPhone SDK: am I still allowed to develop with SDK 3.1.3 on Leopard?

    - by BoltClock
Mac OS X Snow Leopard's been in stores for a while now. Sadly, the Mac that I'll be developing on is still running Leopard, and I don't have admin access to the Mac either so I can't do anything about the OS version. Therefore I can only use iPhone SDK 3.1.3, which we've obtained thanks to this answer, to start building apps on that Mac. Am I still allowed to develop apps with this setup and deploy for iPhone OS 3.x to the App Store? Keyword is allowed because all I've seen so far are technical questions/answers, but I'm not certain if Apple's going to be a jerk and shun me because I can't use a Snow Leopard Mac despite having only started this year (and I don't even want to get started about iPhone SDK 4's revised agreement, not with its NDA still in place...).

  • How to write syntax highlighting?

    - by ML
I am embarking on some learning and I want to write my own syntax highlighting for files in C++. Can anyone give me ideas on how to go about doing this? To me it seems that when a file is opened: 1. it would need to be parsed and decided what type of source file it is. Trusting the extension might not be full-proof a way to know what keywords/commands apply to what language a way to decide what color each keyword/command gets I want to do this on OS X, C++ or Objective-C Can anyone provide pointers on how I might get started with this?

  • ASP.NET MVC2 - using LINQ-generated class

    - by ile
There are few things not clear to me about ASP.NET MV2. In database I have table Contacts with several fields, and there is an additional field XmlFields of which type is xml. In that field are stored additional description fields. There are 4 classes: Contact class which corresponds to Contact table and is defined by default when creating LINQ classes ContactListView class which inherits Contact class and has some additional properties ContactXmlView class that contains fields from XmlFields field ContactDetailsView class which merges ContactListView and ContactXmlView into one class and this one is used to display data in view pages ContactListView class has re-defined some properties from Contact class (so that I can add [Required] filter used for validation) - but I get warning message: 'ObjectTest.Models.Contacts.ContactListView.FirstName' hides inherited member 'SA.Model.Contact.FirstName'. Use the new keyword if hiding was intended. ContactDetailsView class is also used in a form when creating new contact and adding it to database. I am not sure if this is correct way, and the warning message confuses me a bit. Any advise about this? Thanks, Ile

  • When and how should custom hierarchies be used in clojure?

    - by Rob Lachlan
Clojure's system for creating an ad hoc hierarchy of keywords is familiar to most people who have spent a bit of time with the language. For example, most demos and presentations of the language include examples such as (derive ::child ::parent) and they go on to show how this can be used for multi-method dispatch. In all of the slides and presentations that I've seen, they use the global hierarchy. But it is possible to keyword relationships in custom hierarchies. Some questions, therefore: Are there any guidelines on when this is useful or necessary? Are there any functions for manipulating hierarchies? Merging is particularly useful, so I do this: (defn merge-h [& hierarchies] (apply merge-with (cons #(merge-with clojure.set/union %1 %2) hierarchies)) But I was wondering if such functions already exist somewhere.

  • ActionScript 3 class over several files - how?

    - by Poni
So, how do we write a class over several files in action script 3? In C# there's the "partial" keyword. In C++ it's natural (you just "#include ..." all files). In Flex 3, in a component, you add this tag: <mx:Script source="myfile.as"/>. How do I split the following class into several files; package package_path { public class cSplitMeClass { public function cSplitMeClass() { } public function doX():void { // .... } public function doY():void { // .... } } } For example I want to have the doX() and doY() functions implemented in another ".as" file. Can I do this? And please, don't tell me something like "a good practice is to have them in one file" :)

  • Which method of creating javascript objects is better?

    - by Germaine
I've seen objects defined in two different ways, which function similarly, but are, of course, fundamentally different. You can do it either like this: var myobject = {property: 'hello', act: function() { this.property += ' world'; }}; and like this: function myobject() { this.property = 'hello'; this.act = function() { this.property += 'world'; } } The second method could create objects like so var newobj = new myobject(); but you could do something similar using the first notation by making the object the return value of a function. The new keyword has the advantage of being able to pass parameters that can be used to initialize the properties of the object, but you could just as easily add an init function to the first kind of object. Just wondering if besides these two differences, if there was a fundamental difference that made one method definitely better than the other method.

  • Which metadata I should save when downloading web-pages?

    - by Vojtech R.
Hi, I'm going to download (for future purposes of language processing) some thousands webpages. Now I'm thinking, which metadata I should save. I explore this, but I do not wont to neglect something important. <title> <link> <publish_date> <date_downloaded> <source> // to this page <keyword> // for Solr indexing <text> // cleaned body of page Is there something important what I could miss in future?

  • Why did mislav-will_paginate start adding so much garbage to urls between rails 2.3.2 and 2.3.5?

    - by user30997
I've used will_paginate in a number of projects now, but when I moved one of them to Rails 2.3.5, clicking on any of the pagination links (page number, next, prev, etc.,) went from getting nice URLs like this: http://foo.com/user/1/date/2005_01_31/phone/555-6161 to this: http://foo.com/?options[]=user&options[]=date&options[]=2005_01_31&options[]=phone&options[]=555-6161 I have a route that looks like this that is probably the source of the 'options' keyword: map.connect '/browse/*options', :controller=>'assets', :action=>'browse' It's enough of an annoyance that I'm willing to roll a paginator to get around this if there isn't a way to get back to where I was before. Is there a way to get will_paginate to turn array-style routes into sane urls again? Thanks.

  • How to use parameter with LIKE in Sql Server Compact Edition

    - by Colin
I'm trying to parameterise a search query that uses the LIKE keyword with a wildcard. The original sql has dynamic sql like this: "AND JOB_POSTCODE LIKE '" + isPostCode + "%' " So I've tried this instead, but I get a FormatException: "AND JOB_POSTCODE LIKE @postcode + '%' " Edit: I guess the FormatException isn't going to be coming from Sql Server CE, so as requested, here is how I set the parameter in my C# code. The parameter is set in code like this: command.Parameters.Add("@postcode", SqlDbType.NVarChar).Value = isPostCode; I also tried: "AND JOB_POSTCODE LIKE @postcode" with command.Parameters.Add("@postcode", SqlDbType.NVarChar).Value = isPostCode + "%"; but that doesn't return any results. Can anyone advise how to use parameters in this search sql?

  • Passing switches to Xcode 3.1 user scripts

    - by MyztikJenz
I have a user script that would be much more useful if it could dynamically change some of its execution dependent on what the user wanted. Passing simple switches would easily solve this problem but I don't see any way to do it. I also tried embedding a keyword in the script name, but Xcode copies the script to a guid-looking filename before execution, so that won't work either. So does anyone know of a way to call a user script with some sort of argument? (other that the normal %%%var%%% variables) Thanks! EDIT: User scripts are accessible via the script menu in Xcode's menubar (between the Window and Help menus). My question is not about "run script" build phase scripts. My apologies for leaving that somewhat ambiguous.

  • highlighting words at the end of a word

    - by fusion
    i'm not sure how i could have phrased the title better, but my issue is that the highlight function doesn't highlight the search keywords which are at the end of the word. for example, if the search keyword is 'self', it will highlight 'self' or 'self-lessness' or 'Self' [with capital S] but it will not highlight the self of 'yourself' or 'himself' etc. . this is my highlight function: function highlightWords($text, $words) { preg_match_all('~\w+~', $words, $m); if(!$m) return $text; $re = '~\\b(' . implode('|', $m[0]) . ')~i'; $string = preg_replace($re, '<span class="highlight">$0</span>', $text); return $string; }

  • Ruby/ROR Symbols Clarification

    - by Jelani Thompson
I'm new to Ruby/ROR and I'm kind of confused with something. A simple explanation would help. Say I was linking to another page in Ruby on Rails. Would the keyword link_to be considered a method? Also, if so, where would I be able to learn more about these? Symbols. What is the difference between a symbol with a colon on the :left or a symbol with a colon on the right:? Where would I be able to learn more about these?

  • Best way to store large dataset in SQL Server?

    - by gary
I have a dataset which contains a string key field and up to 50 keywords associated with that information. Once the data has been inserted into the database there will be very few writes (INSERTS) but mostly queries for one or more keywords. I have read "Tagsystems: performance tests" which is MySQL based and it seems 2NF appears to be a good method for implementing this, however I was wondering if anyone had experience with doing this with SQL Server 2008 and very large datasets. I am likely to initially have 1 million key fields which could have up to 50 keywords each. Would a structure of keyfield, keyword1, keyword2, ... , keyword50 be the best solution or two tables keyid keyfield | 1 | | M keyid keyword Be a better idea if my queries are mostly going to be looking for results that have one or more keywords?

  • Why is a fixed size buffers (arrays) must be unsafe?

    - by brickner
Let's say I want to have a value type of 7 bytes (or 3 or 777). I can define it like that: public struct Buffer71 { public byte b0; public byte b1; public byte b2; public byte b3; public byte b4; public byte b5; public byte b6; } A simpler way to define it is using a fixed buffer public struct Buffer72 { public unsafe fixed byte bs[7]; } Of course the second definition is simpler. The problem lies with the unsafe keyword that must be provided for fixed buffers. I understand that this is implemented using pointers and hence unsafe. My question is why does it have to be unsafe? Why can't C# provide arbitrary constant length arrays and keep them as a value type instead of making it a C# reference type array or unsafe buffers?

  • How can I add a default header to my source files automatically in Eclipse?

    - by John
Hi. I'm trying to figure out how I can have a comment header automatically added to all new source files in my eclipse java project. I've looked around but I haven't found a simple solution to automate this process. I gave JAutodoc a try, and even though it does allow me to specify a header I still had to tell the plugin manually to inject the header and it didn't seem very fond of my keyword-subsitution. I'm by the way using the Maven2 plugin for Eclipse for most of my projects if that's any help. Any tips?

  • SQL "JOIN" vs. "INNER JOIN"?

    - by froadie
I recently came across a query that implements a join using just the "JOIN" keyword. On researching I saw that when using a join in SQL without specifying INNER or OUTER, the default is an INNER JOIN. I've never come across this syntax before; all the SQL I've written/read/worked with specifies INNER or some sort of OUTER (LEFT, RIGHT, FULL...). Is there any reason not to rely on the default? Is the plain JOIN widely used? What are the coding standards regarding JOIN vs. INNER JOIN?
