  • Is there anyway i can create an intranet request form and have it be stored in a database? [on hold]

    - by eternalearth888
I am trying to create a form for my companies intraNet site. The idea is as follows: An employee wants to make a purchase, so they will go to the appropriate page in the intraNet They will fill out the form on the intraNet page They click the email button The data in the form is saved in a database, and an email is sent to me stating that there is purchase order request form filled out I am not exactly sure how to go about this. Part of me wants to create it in a Data Access Page but I am not sure that's correct. If there is no one here who can help, is there anyone who can direct me to someone/something that can help me?

  • Forbidding or controlling "Hidden IT..." Who should write and maintain ad-hoc software applications?

    - by matcauthon
Bigger companies usually have the problem, that it is not possible to write all programs employees want (to save time and to optimize processes) due to a lack of staff and money. Then hidden programs will be created by some people having (at least some) coding experience (or by cheap students/interns...). Under some circumstances these applications will raise in importance and spread from one user to a whole department. Then there is the critical point: Who will maintain the application, add new features, ...? And this app is critical. It IS needed. But the intern has left the company. No one knows how it works. You only have a bunch of sources and some sort of documentation. Does it make sense to try and control or forbid application development done ad-hoc outside of the IT department (with the exception of minor stuff like Excel macros)?

  • Link-building tips? [closed]

    - by RD01
Possible Duplicate: What is a good way to get many inbound links to your site? I'm probably taking a huge chance here, but I've become a bit desperate. We've paid many a dollar to companies to help push up our page rank, but with no results. I myself have tried everything. Page Rank got up to 5, and now it seems to have gone down to 4. Any advice, even if you point me to an AFFORDABLE and RELIABLE company, I would really appreciate it?

Ideally I want this to lead into owning my own company. Where do I start? Has anyone done this recently? Do you have any tips?

  • The Programmer's Bill of Rights

    - by Martin
I know Jeff has written about this subject on his coding horror blog in the past but I am interested in learning the opinions of a broad set of developers. I agree wholeheartedly with his statement: I propose we adopt a Programmer's Bill of Rights, protecting the rights of programmers by preventing companies from denying them the fundamentals they need to be successful. So, if you could propose one item to the bill of rights, what would it be?

  • iPhone App › Add voice recognition?

    - by aaron
I'd like to build an app that uses voice recognition. I've seen big companies like Google etc implement this feature, but I'm curious about doing it on a start-up level. Anyone looked into this? Are there any tools out there for us to do this?

  • Webscraping Google tasks via Google Calendar

    - by ideotop
As gmail and the task api is not available everywhere (eg: some companies block gmail but not calendar), is there a way to scrap google task through the calendar web interface ? The solution can be to use jQuery/Jaxer or a pointer to a browser script/plugin.

I'm looking for a Canadian webhosting company to setup a dedicated server for a medium/large sized website. I'm not interested in bargain basement companies. I'm looking for a company that offers quality support. I'm wondering what peoples' experience is with Canadian webhosting services, and if anyone has any recommendations. Thanks in advance! Travis

  • Hosted full text search solutions?

    - by James Cooper
Does anyone know of companies offering SaaS full text search? I'm looking for something that uses Lucene, solr, or sphinx on the backend, and provides a REST API for submitting documents to index, and running searches. I could build my own EC2 AMI, but I'd have to configure EBS and other stuff, monitor it, etc. Curious if someone has already done all this and would charge per MB/GB indexed. thank you. -- James

  • Code reviews on the web for PHP and JavaScript code

    - by VirtuosiMedia
What are the best places for freelancers or small companies to get code reviewed for PHP and JavaScript? Forums are an option, but are there any sites dedicated specifically to code reviews? Edit: Just for clarification, I'm looking more for a website to get the code critiqued by others than a tool that helps perform internal code reviews. I do appreciate the responses that offered a tool, though, and will keep those in mind for future use.

  • What development technologies or technology stack is typically used in the security industry?

    - by vfilby
In this case security means building security (access control, alarm systems, etc). And I am not talking about working directly with the hardware, more focused on web based applications/api's that clients or companies can use? Are there technologies that are commonly used? Are there technologies that shouldn't be used? Are there any real benefits to a linux based stack as opposed to a windows based stack for exposing web based applications?

  • Clean Web.Config file in Asp.NET 4.0?

    - by Braveyard
Okay, I am wondering having clear web.config file could be good but you know some shared web hosting companies don't allow us to touch things like machine.config and etc. So If a lot of things have been moved onto machine.config, then will we be allowed to change things like we used to through web.config file.

  • What are some viable alternatives to BizTalk Server?

    - by Kilhoffer
In evaluating different systems integration strategies, I've come across some words of encouragement, but also some words of frustration over BizTalk Server. What are some pros and cons to using BizTalk Server (both from a developer standpoint and a business user), and should companies also consider open source alternatives? What viable alternatives are out there? EDIT: Jitterbit seems like an interesting choice. Open Source and seems to be nicely engineered. Anyone on here have any experience working with it?

  • Alternative to Google Custom Search

    - by EduardoMello
Hi, I'm using Google Custom Search (http://www.google.com/cse) on a client website. They are not very happy about rival companies showing up on sponsered links on their own site. I know we can use Google Site Search (http://www.google.com/sitesearch/ but it has an annual fee. I've been looking all around for a Free/OpenSource alternative for Google CSE, but found little I can use. Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you

  • Rails Multiple Models per Form, Optional FK Association

    - by ckarbass
Given the following pseudo-code: Company has_many :jobs Job belongs_to :company I'm creating a form to post a new job. In the form, I want to have two fields for an optional company. On submission, if a company was entered, I want to either create or update the company and associate it with the new job. I know if the company exists by searching the companies table for the company's url. Is it possible to do this using form_for, fields_for, and accepts_nested_attributes_for given the company may not exist?
