    My screen flickers at 1280 x 1024, 75 hertz, 32 bit color, Dell Monitor e190s 19 inch square monitor. This problem only at the above mentioned resolution , it works fine with other resolutions. I just bought this Monitor 2 days back, do you think the Monitor is defective ? Why is this problem occurring , the system says this is the recommended resolution. Can it be due to my graphic Card ATI xpress 200, 256 MB (in built). Pentium 4 Windows 7 32 bit OS

I have options between say 32GB Memory for 2 CPUs, DDR3, 1066MHz (8x4GB Dual Ranked RDIMMs) and 36GB Memory for 2 CPUs, DDR3, 1066MHz (18x2GB Dual Ranked RDIMMs) Both at the same price.     I want to setup a kvm-based LTSP appliance with Ubuntu 10.04 (server/desktop for ltsp) on a Dell PowerEdge 2900 for ~10-15 clients. People will mostly use Firefox, Thunderbird, OpenOffice and Qcad. Does someone have any experience with this setup? I've had a similar setup with VMware Server 2 and Ubuntu 8.04. How good/bad is kvm compared to VMware for a LTSP appliance? Shall I stick with VMware or can I switch to KVM?

    I'm about to format a machine and I am wondering if anyone can tell me how to copy an Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard (9.2.0) license so I can reload the software. I have several re-install disks that were sent as part of Dell's packaging but have no idea how to tie the disc to the license so I was hoping to just be able to copy a specific file or something and reload using a random Acrobat 9 Standard disc.   • How to stop Microsoft IntelliType Pro (itype.exe) from interpreting keys

    Intellitype Pro is a nice software that helps me when I'm using my Ms keyboard. When I'm on the road using my laptop's built-in keyboard it interprets some of the keys incorrectly and reacts on them, for instance the Fn + Down Arrow opens Windows Live Messenger (in addition to lowering brightness, which is governed by Dell's driver). I want to stop Intellitype when I'm on the road and reload it when I'm home using the external keyboard. Note: original problem (conflict with itype) posted here.

  • XP OEM licensing when reinstalling Windows XP

    My wife has managed to buy a Dell laptop she was using at her ex-employer that just went bust. The problem with it is the OS (Windows XP) which takes ages to boot and is generally disproportionally slow to the hardware of the machine. So my aim is to sacrifice a day and reinstall it. The problem I am slightly worried about is the licensing/registration/activation hell. Apart from the sticker (with WinXP license key), the laptop has no other paperwork proving this license is legitimate. I believe this was originally an OEM license. Unfortunately, I don't have the the installation CD. This computer also has MS Office installed (which I would like to retain) but it none of MS Office apps would launch due to some obscure error complaining about lack of free disk space (which computer has plenty of). I have absolutely no clue what kind of license this MS Office was. And because the company has gone into the administration, there is no way of getting this information nor installable media. I believe that by buying the hardware I have also acquired the software which I can use as I see fit. Correct me if I'm wrong. Above said, my question would be: What is the easiest way of reinstalling the XP? By easiest I mean avoiding spending my time to prove Microsoft support I've got the right to use the software (insert your computer says noooo joke here) but still being able to get to fresh virgin activated legal state of the XP. I used to work as a sysadmin many years ago so I am not afraid of any technical difficulties. The same question applies to MS Office. I imagine the process would consist of backing up all the data, pulling some bits from the registry and using that on the fresh install. As for reinstall I'd expect to use some sort of OEM Windows repair CD from Dell, right? Are those freely available? My other box (HP) has such a thing and it can't be used on any other brand. I'm sure somebody had to go through this licensing hell and could share his/her tips. Thanks in advance.

The problem is that the software that came with the bluetooth dongle (Bluesoleil 5) is fairly old and isn't compatible Windows 7.     I am using Avast Home Edition in my Dell Mini 10v. As you know the notebook is using an under powered processor which is not really suitable for browsing some rich internet websites. So I am in the middle of improving the performance. Will uninstalling Avast and using Microsoft Security Essentials will improve the performance? the memory usage of avast is quite low but I can't compromise security. Is Security essentials a good bet?

  • Is Displayport preferable to DVI for monitor connections?

    I'm currently running a single Dell 24" (2408WFP) screen, but am considering adding a second. The problem I've got is that I'm currently using the DVI connector to the on board graphics, so will need to purchase a new graphics card. The 2408WFP also has HDMI and DisplayPort inputs, so I was wondering if DisplayPort is worth considering at present over DVI? On the same subject, does anyone actually manufacture reasonably priced DisplayPort cards - all I've managed to find seem to very expensive workstation cards aimed at financial/design/simulation markets.

People from Dell have told me that Lefthand SAN's require at least two nodes and data must be mirroring between them so capacity is a half less compare to other SAN technology (e.g.Equal Logic). Our department bought a rackmount server for the first unit, but I dont think this is adequate for applications that use graphics (correct me if I'm wrong - we bought a Dell R710). Could you tell me of a good rackmount workstation we could buy for our product? Also, would it be risky for us to build our own rackmount?
