• Binding for MinWidth property does not work in Silverlight

  I have noticed something very unusual today, I need to bind "MinWidth" property of TextBlock to some value, however following example does not work. It only accepts MinWidth at a time of creation, but after that it is not affected at all if LeftWidth property is changed at runtime, however if I bind LeftWidth property to WidthProperty it works well. Binding b = new Binding("LeftWidth"); // following never changes layout of control tb.SetBinding(TextBlock.MinWidthProperty,b); However, this one works correctly, // following never changes layout of control tb.SetBinding(TextBlock.WidthProperty,b); Now I also did hook events and tried to do InvalidateMeasure and InvalidateArrange on TextBlock, but it has no effect. Seems like Changing MinWidth Property after layout pass does not work at all. Can it be a bug in Silverlight? or Does anyone have any idea at all why MinWidth does not redo the layout?

• Model Binding with Parent/Child Relationship

  I'm sure this has been answered before, but I've spent the last three hours looking for an acceptable solution and have been unable to find anything, so I apologize for what I'm sure is a repeat. I have two domain objects, Player and Position. Player's have a Position. My domain objects are POCOs tied to my database with NHibernate. I have an Add action that takes a Player, so I'm using the built in model binding. On my view I have a drop down list that lets a user select the Position for the Player. The value of the drop down list is the Id of the position. Everything gets populated correctly except that my Position object fails validation (ModelState.IsValid) because at the point of model binding it only has an Id and none of it's other required attributes. What is the preferred solution for solving this with ASP.NET MVC 2? Solutions I've tried... Fetch the Position from the database based on the Id before ModelState.IsValid is called in the Add action of my controller. I can't get the model to run the validation again, so ModelState.IsValid always returns false. Create a custom ModelBinder that inherits from the default binder and fetch the Position from the database after the base binder is called. The ModelBinder seems to be doing the validation so if I use anything from the default binder I'm hosed. Which means I have to completely roll my own binder and grab every value from the form...this seems really wrong and inefficient for such a common use-case. Solutions I think might work, I just can't figure out how to do... Turn off the validation for the Position class when used in Player. Write a custom ModelBinder leverages the default binder for most of the property binding, but lets me get the Position from the database BEFORE the default binder runs validation. So, how do the rest of you solve this? Thanks, Dan P.S. In my opinion having a PositionId on Player just for this case is not a good solution. There has to be solvable in a more elegant fashion.

• MVC Custom Model Binder Binding Multiple Values

  Hello everyone, I have a scenario in which I have multiple sources to bind to my model. For one, I have a view tied to a strongly-typed model, but this scenario also entails posting data to this view from a 3rd party site. Essentially, what I believe I am after in the custom model binding is to investigate the form values in the Request object within HTTPContext to see if I have a field such as "postedFirstName". If so, I want to bind that value instead of the textbox "FirstName" in my view. I've done a good bit of searching but have not find anything that exactly addresses such a scenario. • WPF Binding not updating when binded object is updated

  I'm trying to bind to a custom control like so: <my:GanttChartTaskListView Name="ganttChartTaskListView1" ItemsSource="{Binding Source={x:Static local:TaskCollection.taskList}}" /> In my WPF Window constructor I add add an item to my taskList, when it loads I can see that item in my custom control, however, when I subsequently add items it does not update. I tried setting Mode=TwoWay, however, then it says the "Path" is required and I'm not familiar with binding like that (this is new to me). Here is my TaskCollection class: namespace ProjectManager { public static class TaskCollection { private static List<TaskItem> _taskList = new List<TaskItem>(); public static List<TaskItem> taskList { get {return _taskList; } set { _taskList = value; } } } } Any ideas? Is there a better / easier way to do this?

  I have a main instance named 'myinstance' which has the element . Color can be 'Red', 'Blue', 'Green' or ''Yellow'. The colors are populated in a drop-down from another instance called 'colorsinstance'.   so, i've found a way to bind a label to a property on current Control i give it a name: <UserControl x:Class="WpfGridtest.GridControl" x:Name="GridControlControl1"> and than bind to property of this control: <Label Content="{Binding ElementName=GridControlControl1, Path=Filter}"></Label> I can see the default value i put in that property. I am guessing that this isn't working because i am binding to String property which doesn't implement INotifyPropertyChanged?? is there some other type i should be using for this property instead of String auto notify my label of changes, or am i going about this the wrong way?

• Using dd-wrt Dynamic DNS client with CloudFlare

  I'm trying to configure Dynamic DNS client on my router with dd-wrt (v24-sp2) firmware so it would dynamically change IP address in one of the DNS records. • Setup Reverse DNS with Cpanel and WHM?

  I needed to set-up a reverse DNS via cpanel. I followed the steps in this tutorial but it didn't work: http://docs.cpanel.net/twiki/bin/view/11_30/WHMDocs/RdnsForBind. I use my own name servers registered with go-daddy. But I am with VPS hosting company. I did use a new serial number and exactly as the tutorial however didnt seems to be working When I check this via windows nslookup {ip-address} I still get the my hosting company name, when reversed.

• DNS servers not set properly? Site failing to load by hostname, though loads fine by IP

  We run www.tekiki.com. Some users, including us, cannot reach www.tekiki.com because of DNS issues. The site resolves fine on the desktop, but it fails from our iPhones and iPads. This doesn't happen to everyone. We noticed the problem yesterday, then set our DNS servers to Cloudflare's DNS servers, hoping that would fix things. Accessing the site by IP addr loads the site fine. Two questions: 1) Does anyone know what the solution is? 2) Should we use other DNS servers besides Cloudflare?

• Creating PDF documents dynamically using Umbraco and XSL-FO part 2

  Since my last post I have made a few modifications to the PDF generation, the main one being that the files are now dynamically renamed so that they reflect the name of the case study instead of all being called PDF.PDF which was not a very helpful filename, I just wanted to get something live last week, so decided that something was better than nothing :)The issue with the filenames comes down to the way that the PDF's are being generated by using an alternative template in Umbraco, this means that all you need to do is add " /pdf " to the end of a case study URL and it will create a PDF version of the case study. • PDF from Umbraco | Creating PDF case studies from data in the Umbraco CMS

  Last week we launched the first version of our website based on Umbraco 4.5.2 and this week we have just added a bit of extra functionality to the case studies section which enables you to download the case studies as PDF documents.To do this we used the PDF Creator package by Darren Ferguson, this is actually a wrapper around a product from a company called Ibex, which is where you can download documentation for the mark up required.The way Darren has made the implementation is really simple for anyone already familiar with the Umbraco CMS. You simple create a new template and call a Usercontrol macro, this then does the magic in the background and passes an XSLT file to the ibex engine.What you need to be aware of is that you need to learn a new mark up language called XSL-FO this is actually part of the XSL 1.0 specification and is a language used to express print layouts.As an indication of timescale, from knowing nothing about XSL-FO to the finished product that you can see on the website now has taken me 2 days of learning and just fiddling with the mark up to get the final result.If anyone is interested I might post some code snippets to show you how some of it is done, I would also be really interested to have some feedback about the PDF layout and what you like and don't like about it.Cheers,ChrisPosted using BlogPress from my iPad

  I have two domains hi.org and bye.net and one dynamic IP address and two servers. I want to attach one domain bye.net to server1 and hi.org to server2. I'm using Apache wamp 2.0i. I use Windows 7 (server 2) and Windows XP (server 1) UPDATE: I needed to remove DocumentRoot "g:/wamp/www" line :D it was there by mistake! things are working fine now. But one thing: the URL gets replaced by the local ip address any way to not make that happen?

  Just became a lucky owner of this book C# IN A NUTSHELL 4th edition. This is a fourth edition of this book’s series. I saw previous third edition of this book, we presented it on one of our events at Yaroslavl State University, but that book was a Russian translated version and published in Russia, this is was bad side of that book – all books at Russia printed on really bad paper. I should say that I didn’t read this book by end, but already I was surprised. Why? Why I heard a lot about Richter CLR via C# (English version of 3rd edition of this book I already have, and this book are waiting my attention), and just a few words about C# IN A NUTSHELL, at least in my sphere. I just listen once about this book at one of the podcast of Alt.Net group, and this words was Richter it is really good book, and C# IN A NUTSHELL it is a good handbook. My opinion is - you should read Richter if you want to develop with .NET. But if you want to develop on .NET with C# you should read C# IN A NUTSHELL too. Read more...

• Dynamic virtual host configuration in Apache

  I want to make a virtual host in Apache with dynamic configuration for my websites. For example something like this would be perfect. <VirtualHost *:80> AssignUserId $domain webspaces ServerName $subdomain.$domain.$tld ServerAdmin admin@$domain.$tld DocumentRoot "/home/webspaces/$domain.$tld/subdomains/$subdomain" <Directory "/home/webspaces/$domain.$tld/subdomains/$subdomain"> .... </Directory> php_admin_value open_basedir "/tmp/:/usr/share/pear/:/home/webspaces/$domain.$tld/subdomains/$subdomain" </VirtualHost> $subdomain, $domain, $tld would be extracted from the HTTP_HOST variable using regex at request time. No more loads of configuration, no more apache reloading every x minutes, no more stupid logic. Notice that I use mpm-itk (AssignUserId directive) so each virtual host runs as a different user. I do not intend to change this part. Since now I have tried: - mod_vhost_alias but this allows dynamic configuration of only the document root. - mod_macro but this still requires the arguments of the vhost to be declared explicitly for each vhost. - I have read about mod_vhs and other modules which store configuration in a SQL or LDAP server which is not acceptable as there is no need for configuration! Those 3 necessary arguments can be generated at runtime. - I have seen some Perl suggestions like this, but as the author states $s->add_config would add a directive after every request, thus leading to a memory leak, and $r->add_config seems not to be a feasible solution.

  I'm interested in learning how to create a compiler for a dynamically typed language. Most compiler books, college courses and articles/tutorials I've come across are specifically for statically typed languages. I've thought of a few ways to do it, but I'd like to know how it's usually done. I know type inferencing is a pretty common strategy, but what about others? Where can I find out more about how to create a dynamically typed language? Edit 1: I meant dynamically typed. Sorry about the confusion. I've written toy compilers for statically typed languages and written some interpreters for dynamically typed languages. Now, I'm interested in learning more about creating compilers for a dynamically typed language. I'm specifically experimenting with LLVM and since I need to specify the type of every method and argument, I'm thinking of ways to implement a dynamically typed language on something like LLVM.

The variable you are testing is the expected type. The variable you are testing's value is what you expect it to be. Which to me raises the question of whether you should test for each of these implicitly so that a test fail would occur on the specific line that tests for that problem: assertTrue(stringFoo); assertTrue(stringFoo.typeOf() == "String"); assertEquals("foo", otherObject.stringFoo); For example if the variable was an integer instead of a string the test case failure would be on line 2 which would give you more feedback on what went wrong. Should you test for this kind of thing explicitly or am i overthinking this?

• Winamp question: Generating 'dynamic playlists' from file playlists -OR- mass-tagging by file playli

  I'm trying to think of a way to do this. I sort my songs into a variety of playlists corresponding to different 'moods' I might have as I listen to them, and some songs fit for more than one kind of mood (e.g. a jazz song might be 'stylish' and 'emotional', or something to that effect). I also give them star ratings for a general sort of opinion about them. I want to be able to filter and sort my media library by the moods I want or don't want, as well as by star rating. Anyone have a good way to do something like this? I can't seem to use Winamp's dynamic playlists to generate lists from existing filesystem playlists (e.g. songs in a given .m3u files). Hand-tagging files with Winamp's tag editor is a royal pain. It's trouble enough just giving a star rating and sorting into playlists as is. If there is there a way to mass tag songs within each playlist with mood words to allow me to create dynamic playlists, I'd be fine (for now). It'd be nice if I could do this via some kind of hotkey for each song, too. I'm looking to see if I can use a macro program or something to do that, though. Thanks in advance.
