• Script to fill out time sheet on login

  Everyday at work when I come in I have to sign into a time-sheet. It's timestamped so I can't just say I came in at whatever time when I didn't. I want to write a script that runs on login (windows 7) and fills out the time I come in and such and another that says the time I'm leaving when I log out. I'm struggling to word this properly and am aware that I have worded it terribly but hopefully you guys know what I'm saying and can help me despite this. thanks in advance folks

• Get script for every action in SQL Server Management Studio

  I am always conscious to keep a record of all operations performed on my database servers. Operations through T-SQL in an SSMS query pane can easily be saved in query files. For table modifications through SSMS designer I have predefined setting to generate T-SQL scripts. However there are numerous database and server level tasks that I use the SSMS GUI and I would like to have a script of these changes for later reference. Examples of such actions through the SSMS GUI are backup/restore, changing compatibility level of a database, manipulating permissions, dealing with database or log files or creating/manipulating any login/user. • Periodic script execution

  I made a script that sends my local sensors temperature to a server in the internet and then I can see a graph of it. Everything works fine when I execute it manully. I have the latest ubuntu version. When it comes to run periodically every minute with crontab then nothing works. It doesnt send anything. I tried to run it as SUDO and as user, I tried to add it in the crontab file to run it from several locations like /bin/myscript.sh , /user/Desktop and many others...Nothing seems to work. Any Idea how to solve it? Thank you!

• NSClient++: external script with optional arguments

  I am trying to define an external script which would take optional arguments in NSClient++ 0.4.1 on Windows. Following the nsclient-full.ini example code I have defined mycheck=cmd /C echo C:\mydir\myscript.ps1 %ARGS% | powershell.exe -command - which simply yields the string %ARGS% passed as the only argument to myscript.ps1, no matter what I specify in my call through NRPE (using Nagios' check_nrpe if that matters). I then tried to rewrite the definition to mycheck=cmd /C echo C:\mydir\myscript.ps1 $ARG1$ $ARG2$ | powershell.exe -command - (myscript.ps1 would take up to two arguments), which does help a bit. At least, if two arguments are provided, I can fetch them via the args[] array. The trouble starts when the call has less than two arguments - in this case the literal strings $ARG2 and $ARG1$ are passed through as arguments. Handling this case in the code of myscript.ps1 makes the whole argument processing routine ugly at best. Is there a sane way of defining optional parameters to an external script which would not pass NSClient's variable names if no parameter has been specified?

• Unable to delete a file using bash script

  I'm having problems removing a file in a bash script. I saw the other post with the same problem but none of those solutions solved my problem. The bash script is an OP5 surveillance check and it calls an Expect process that saves a temporary file to the local drive which the bash script reads from. Once it has read the file and checked its status I would like to remove the temporary file. I'm pretty new to scripting so my script may not be as optimal as it can be. Either way it does the job except removing the file once it's done. And specify that in the rm command. I tried creating another if statement similar to the one I use to verify that file exist and then rm the filename. I tried adding the complete name of the file (no variables, just plain text of the file) I can: Remove the file using the full name in both a separate script and directly in the CLI. Is there something in my script that locks the file that prevents me from removing it? I'm not sure what to try next. Thanks in advance!

• DPM 2010 PowerShell Script to Easily Restore Multiple Files

  I’ve got what I thought would be a simple task with Data Protection Manager 2010 that is turning out to be quite frustrating. I have a file server on one server and it is the only server in a protection group. This file server is the repository for a document management application which stores the files according to the data within a SQL database. Sometimes users inadvertently delete files from within our application and we need to restore them. We have all the information needed to restore the files to include the file name, the folder that the file was stored in and the exact date that the file was deleted. It is easy for me to restore the file from within the DPM console since we have a recovery point created every day, I simply go to the day before the delete, browse to the proper folder and restore the file. The problem is that using the DPM console, the cumbersome wizard requires about 20 mouse clicks to restore a single file and it takes 2-4 minutes to get through all the windows. This becomes very irritating when a client needs 100’s of files restored… it takes all day of redundant mouse clicks to restore the files. Therefore, I want to use a PowerShell script (and I’m a novice at PowerShell) to automate this process. I want to be able to create a script that I pass in a file name, a folder, a recovery point date (and a protection group/server name if needed) and simply have the file restored back to its original location with some sort of success/failure notification. I thought it was a simple basic task of a backup solution, but I am having a heck of a time finding the right code. I have seen the sample code at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/how-to-use-a-windows-powershell-script-to-recover-an-item-in-data-protection-manager.aspx that I have tried to follow, but it doesn’t accomplish what I really want to do (it’s too simplistic) and there are errors in the sample code. Therefore, I would like to get some help writing a script to restore these files. An example of the known values to restore the data are: DPM Server: BACKUP01 Protection Group: Document Repository Data Protected Server: FILER01 File Path: R:\DocumentRepository\ToBackup\ClientName\Repository\2010\07\24\filename.pdf Date Deleted: 8/2/2010 (last recovery point = 8/1/2010) Bonus Points: If you can help me not only create this script, but also show me how to automate by providing a text file with the above information that the PowerShell script loops through, or even better, is able to query our SQL server for the needed data, then I would be more than willing to pay for this development.

  I have a hp pavilion g6 laptop. My keyboard has stopped working so I cannot use laptop keyboard to change the brightness. The issue is my brightness is set at 0 so I cannot see anything once ubuntu loads. I have attached an external keyboard via usb, I was wondering how can I change the brightness using the external keyboard. Is there a way. I cannot login or see anything once ubuntu is loaded its total dark on the login screen. Any help is appreciated.

• Running a powershell script at startup

  I am writing a script to remove a computer from the domain, rename it, then add it back. It works fine when I set the trigger to AtLogOn but when I switch to AtStartUp I run into some issues. I get this error when it restarts to run the first scheduled task: 0x8007051F: There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request. I suspect the script tries to run with no network connection set up so I tested using the RandomDelay parameter, and it worked like its suppose to. I cant rely on a random delay so I am looking for an alternative. Is there a way to test the network status before the script begins or a way to delay the script a specific amount of time? I am using Register-ScheduledJob provided by Powershell 3.0 Thanks in advance

• Attempting to update Amazon Route53 using a script, but domain is not being updated

  I have several Amazon EC2 instances, running Ubuntu 10.04, with which I'd like to use Amazon's Route53. I setup a script as described in Shlomo Swidler's article, but I'm still missing something. When the script runs, it doesn't return any output, which I initially assumed meant it ran correctly. However, when I check the DNS records using MyR53DNS, there are no entries for my instances. • Large svn external

  I have a project which uses a large library residing in its own repository. Using: Tortoise-SVN, the server is running an enterprise edition of VisualSVN The project itself has the "standard" structure: trunk tags branches In each branch, tag, and trunk is the library, set as an external (svn:external property). If I get the entire tree, I get the library several times, which is just getting too ridiculously repetitive. Is there a recommended structure for this? Or perhaps a way not to get all externals (because other externals are much smaller, easier to manipulate)?

• Automating the choice between JPEG and PNG with a script

  Choosing the right format to save your images in is crucial for preserving image quality and reducing artifacts. Different formats follow different compression methods and come with their own set of advantages and disadvantages. JPG, for instance is suited for real life photographs that are rich in color gradients. The lossless PNG, on the other hand, is far superior when it comes to schematic figures: Picking the right format can be a chore when working with a large number of files. That's why I would love to find a way to automate it. A little bit of background on my particular use case: I am working on a number of handouts for a series of lectures at my unversity. The handouts are rich in figures, which I have to extract from PDF-formatted slides. Extracting these images gives me lossless PNGs, which are needlessly large at times. Converting these particular files to JPEG can reduce their size to up to less than 20% of their original file size, while maintaining the same quality. This is important as working with hundreds of large images in word processors is pretty crash-prone. Batch converting all extracted PNGs to JPEGs is not an option I am willing to follow, as many if not most images are better suited to be formatted as PNGs. Converting these would result in insignificant size reductions and sometimes even increases in filesize - that's at least what my test runs showed. What we can take from this is that file size after compression can serve as an indicator on what format is suited best for a particular image. It's not a particularly accurate predictor, but works well enough. So why not use it in form of a script: I included inotifywait because I would prefer for the script be executed automatically as soon as I drag an extracted image into a folder. This is a simpler version of the script that I've been using for the last couple of weeks: #!/bin/bash inotifywait -m --format "%w%f" --exclude '.jpg' -r -e create -e moved_to --fromfile '/home/MHC/.scripts/Workflow/Conversion/include_inotifywait' | while read file; do mogrify -format jpg -quality 92 "$file" done The advanced version of the script would have to be able to handle spaces in file names and directory names preserve the original file names flatten PNG images if an alpha value is set compare the file size between the temporary converted image and its original determine if the difference is greater than a given precentage act accordingly The actual conversion could be done with imagemagick tools: convert -quality 92 -flatten -background white file.png file.jpg Unfortunately, my bash skills aren't even close to advanced enough to convert the scheme above into an actual script, but I am sure many of you can. My reputation points on here are pretty low, but I will gladly award the most helpful answer with the highest bounty I can set. • GPO Startup script did not execute on some computers

  The GPO Startup scripts works fine on other machine but not for another half of the machine. gpresult show that GPO was there. I ran RSOP and it show that the Startup script was there but it was never executed. There nothing on application error or anything related to the failed execution in the event viewer. I have set to Allow slow network connection too but it did not help for the startup script to execute. Permission read/execute granted to Domain Computers & Authenticated Users Other GPO settings works except Startup Script did not execute. The scripts works fine as other machine which success without any issue except some machine. I need help to sort this out as it troubles me where another half of the machine did not execute the script at all. It was all WIndows 7.

  Hey all! I run a disposable e-mail service that accepts all incoming mail and forwards it to a PHP script that stores it in a database for people to view. Before now, I have been on shared hosting with cPanel, which makes it easy to pipe e-mails to a script. Now, however, I got my own VPS, and it doesn't have cPanel. How do I pipe e-mails to script? Further, how do I pipe emails to any address on certain specified domains to my script? You see, aside from the main domain, there are several alternate domains that people can use if the main domain is blocked, and on each domain I want any address to be usable (xyz@domain, abc@domain, anythingelse@domain). The VPS has Ubuntu 9.04 installed, and I have been experimenting with Postfix, though I can switch to Exim or Sendmail if it is easier.

  I have setup a virtual router image with dynamips and setup bridging between tap0 interface of the virtual router and eth0 and br0 with commands [root@cisco_host]# brctl addbr br0 [root@cisco_host]# ifconfig br0 up [root@cisco_host]# ifconfig eth1 0.0.0.0 [root@cisco_host]# brctl addif br0 eth1 [root@cisco_host]# ifconfig br0 192.168.0.100 netmask 255.255.255.0 up In dynagen configuration I have: f0/0 = NIO_tap:tap0 So, [root@cisco_host]# brctl addif br0 tap0 [root@cisco_host]# ifconfig tap0 up router(config)#int fa0/0 router(config-if)#ip address 192.168.0.101 255.255.255.0 router(config-if)#no shutdown After the configuration above I was expecting that from inside the router I could ping an external machine with IP 192.168.0.1 Actually from the host I can ping the external host 192.168.0.1 as well as 192.168.0.100 and 192.168.0.101. So what am I missing here? tap0 is bridged with br0 and in turn with eth1. So why the router is not pingable from 192.168.0.1 and vice-versa??

I want to re-direct STDIN and STDOUT from this script to two named pipes for interaction with another program. E.g.: SCRIPT_STDIN pipe1 SCRIPT_STDOUT < pipe2 Here is the flow I'm trying to accomplish: [Application] - Launches helper script, writes to helpers STDIN, reads from helpers STDOUT (example: STDIN:username,password; STDOUT:LOGIN_OK) [Helper Script] - Reads STDIN (data from app), forwards to PIPE1; reads from PIPE2, writes that back to the app on STDOUT [Other Process] - Reads from PIPE1 input, processes and returns results to PIPE2 The cat command can almost do what I want. If there were an option to copy STDIN to STDERR I could make cat do this with a command (assuming the fictitious option -e echos to STDERR rather than STDOUT): cat -e PIPE2 2PIPE1 (read from PIPE2 and write it to STDOUT, copy input, normally going to STDERR to PIPE1)

I want to share this script at other machine, then from another computer I want to invoke these script to modify hosts file at first computer (via LAN). I need some example. I didn't find any example. Is this possible? I try: runas/user:username block.bat On the same machine login as guest but it doesn't work. No errors just "Attempting to call block.bat" and end of invocation. As admin script works ok. Could someone give me any advice?

• Repointing iTunes library from failed external drive to local drive

  Up until recently I had my iTunes library on an external drive, but the drive was beginning to act up, so as a precaution, I copied all the media files onto my local hard-drive. My external drive is now completely dead, so I'm in a situation where iTunes is still looking for the files on my F: drive, but the drive is gone, so the library references are now all broken links. A complete copy of the library is on my C: drive, so I'm curious what would be the easiest way to repoint my library to the media files on C:? Should I just clear out my library in iTunes and just import the files from C:? Or is there a more automatic way? I don't think I can use the "Consolidate Library" function in iTunes, b/c I no longer have access to the original library media files.

• Vmware sphere setting up external network

  I've just setup vmware vsphere 5 on a remote server (rented dedicated server). I've added my first VPS (centos 5.8) barebones. It's not finding any IP (internal or external) on boot. I've had an extra external IP assigned to my server that I wanted to use on the VPS. I tried editing the eth0 config and adding the IP in there and turning off the DHCP, but it can't find any IP or ping google or do any networking type things. How do I route the IP to my VPS so I can access it remotely?

• Timing issue with autohotscript, fails to dump or open destination file

  I've created a autohotscript to quickly dump selected text into my jot file on the Desktop and I think I'm facing a timing error. The script works like thus: Select text when reading a text file, browsing internet, reading PDF, etc. Hit Ctrl + J Contents of selected text is dumped into my jot file. When I press Ctrl + J very quickly, it sometimes doesn't come up in my jot file and sometimes when I keep pressing Ctrl + J for a long time, many instances of the text appear. • Forward one RDP port on one machine to multiple external users at the same time

  We have a windows server 2003 machine with rdp service listening on the standard port 3389. For security reasons this port is not opened on the router, but we have freesshd service running and a remote admin can login via ssh and this port is forwarded to external port 33001 for the first external user. This works great. Now we have another admin who wants to work remote (he uses a different windows account, but needs to work on the same machine.) So this is basically a ssh port forwarding question. Will the other user be able to login at the same time using the same port 33001 ? Please keep in mind that there will be a second tunnel, and this second tunnel will also use the local port 3389 on the windows server.
