  • How to push to github from a server account with multiple users?

    We have a web server which contains a web application stored as a github project. Now all of us can push from our local machines to github and then pull on the server but sometimes we want to make small changes and immediately see the effect so it would be great to be able to push at the server too. Now I created an ssh key for the server but I don't want to add the servers ssh key to my github account because then all github actions done from the server are counted to my account. Is it possible to add the ssh key to the github web application project without creating a new user for the server and what is the best practice for this situation? I also don't want to copy my private key to the server obviously.

    Can anyone recommend an online file storage service which fulfills these requirements? I can create an account I can invite clients to upload files into my account clients do not need to register to be able to upload clients must not be able to see anything but their own files or they must not see any files at all, they get only a dropbox only I can access the uploaded files, everything is non-public service is multi-lingual I just need clients to be able to send me potentially large files in a dead simple manner online, that's all. No registration step to go through, no software to download, no synching or sharing. No setting up of individual folders and permissions for each individual client. No copying and pasting of links (a la Mediafire, Rapidshare etc).

    When installing MS SQL Server 2008, one needs to associate a service account with the installation (possibly even several accounts, one for the SQL Server Agent, one for Analysis Services, ..., but let's leave that for the case of simplicity). The service account may be local account, or a Windows domain account. If a domain account is used: Can MSSQL start, if connectivity to the domain controllers is temporarily down? If the answer is yes: Should each DBMS instance on each server have a separate account, or does it make sense to use a particular "MSSQL" domain account on all MSSQL-installations in the organization? If separate accounts are used for each instance on each server: Does it make sense to create a special MSSQL security group in the domain and place all the MSSQL service accounts in that group, perhaps to ease replication, etc? Is there a common, generally accepted naming convention for MSSQL service account(s)?

    My 4 month old 500 GB SATA HDD making noise sometimes and the PC hangs when it makes noise when the noise stops desktop work fine. It doesn't happen every day but it does happen. Is something wrong with HDD, Data, power cable, or my cabinet's power supply? Should I run scandisk or defragmentation on the disk.

    I have an old Microsoft access database (circa 2002 or so), which I need to extract data from. I don't have Microsoft Office available - the trial version I downloaded expired a week ago or so. I am looking for an open source solution or something similar that will allow me to open the database and extract the data - so I can throw away the database. BTW, can I use OpenOffice to access the data in the .mdb file? (I don't think the option is available IIRC)

  • How to link processing power of old computers together?

    Hey all, I'm sitting on 8 old computers of varied sorts that are more or less useless at this point for any other purpose really. Is there a way I could link their hardware or processing power or whatever together over wifi and use one as like a central computer? Like it would be cool to distribute the processing of some video game or encryption generating program over the collective computers. Any way to do all this? Thanks.

  • Can I get back a disabled account from Microsoft Exchange 2010?

    We had an employee leave today and I disabled their account. For clarification I right click the user in the Exchange Management Console and clicked "Disable." I got a message that said "Disabling the mailbox will remove the Exchange properties from the Windows user object and mark the mailbox in the database for removal. Are you sure you want to disable 'Users Name'? I clicked "yes" and not 60 seconds later I was asked to just change the password temporarily. Can I get this account back?

Now I want to open a particular port (say 80) for an instance running in account A, to account B. ie, I want to only allow account B instances, to access account A's 80 port.   • Windows XP, have to use ctrl+alt+delete to log on as local administrator

    Hey, I have a weird issue, a user was was logging into a laptop using the local admin account which was working fine. I had to create another account on the system, which was also an admin account, when this happened the 'administrator' account disappeared from the 'choose an account to login with' screen. A quick workaround is available, if the user presses ctrl+alt+delete it brings you to the screen where you can type in the username and password, so by manually typing 'administrator' it can log in. Normally this would be easily fixed, I figured the admin account had somehow been disabled from the local system, but i checked all settings and it is setup fine. The laptop is not part of a domain, so I used the management console to delete the new account and all that succeeded in doing was making the 'choose an account to log in with' screen display no accounts to choose. So far I see nothing else to fix it, the option to change the default logon screen to style where you type the username and password also seems to be missing. any ideas?

  • What is the best method to determine an account through DNS A record configuration?

    I apologize if my description of the problem is unclear. I am working for an online CMS that allows external domains to be used similar to Tumblr or Flavors.me. I noticed both of these services simply require you to add an A record to your domain's DNS. When trying this, I added an A record for a blank name and "www" both leading to my webserver's IP. While this successfully routes to my server, it doesn't retain the used domain. This leaves me without any idea of what account they're attempting to reach at the application layer. I'm using nginx as my webserver. I have changed all the nameservers for a domain before, and that works properly, however that causes complications with other issues such as mail and isn't feasible on a scaled solution. What should I be doing here? Is the A record the correct method of accomplishing this? How are sites like Tumblr and Flavors.me determining which account is being referenced by the domain?

  • Can't login after upgrading to Windows 8.1

    This afternoon, I upgraded my work laptop from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. I had previously had a local account, but after the upgrade, it prompted me to enter my windows account credentials, which I had set up beforehand at some point. I entered my password and clicked next, went through another screen or two, grew tired with the process, and clicked whatever the equivalent button to "skip this step" that I was presented with. Now I can't log in. Not with my (previous) local account password, and not with my windows account password. It's a Dell with biometric identification, which I had set up previously, so I put my finger on the reader and it complained that I couldn't use that fingerprint because I had changed my password. But, I hadn't wittingly changed my password at all. I assume that what happened is that, by entering my credentials, my local account was tied to the Windows account, but because I cancelled the process partway through, something went wrong and I cannot log in. A few questions: 1) How do I log in with my windows account credentials? Should LOCALMACHINENAME\username, which was my previous login method, still work for the Windows account? When I booted to safemode it prompted me with WindowsAccount\myemailaddress, which allowed me to login there, but the regular login doesn't accept the '@' symbol. 2) Is there any way to make that account local-only again? I can't find any way of doing it. 3) I managed to enable the local administrator account and get back into the box; failing all else, is there a quick way to migrate my old profile over to a new user?

    What is the point of pruning old objects from Active Directory, especially computer accounts? If a computer is wiped or destroyed, then the stale computer account doesn't pose any security risk because it can't be used any more. And I can't imagine that stale objects affect performance very much, because if they aren't being changed then they aren't being replicated. So, what is the real motivation to keep Active Directory clean of stale objects?

    Hi, I work on a code base in the region of about 1'000'000 lines of source, in a team of around eight developers. Our code is basically an application using an Oracle database, but the code has evolved over time (we have plenty of source code from the mid nineties in there!). A dispute has arisen amongst the team over the syntax that we are using for querying the Oracle database. At the moment, the overwhelming majority of our queries use the "old" Oracle Syntax for joins, meaning we have code that looks like this... Example of Inner Join select customers.*, orders.date, orders.value from customers, orders where customers.custid = orders.custid Example of Outer Join select customers.custid, contacts.ContactName, contacts.ContactTelNo from customers, contacts where customers.custid = contacts.custid(+) As new developers have joined the team, we have noticed that some of them seem to prefer using SQL-92 queries, like this: Example of Inner Join select customers.*, orders.date, orders.value from customers inner join orders on (customers.custid = orders.custid) Example of Outer Join select customers.custid, contacts.ContactName, contacts.ContactTelNo from customers left join contacts on (customers.custid = contacts.custid) Group A say that everyone should be using the the "old" syntax - we have lots of code in this format, and we ought to value consistency. We don't have time to go all the way through the code now rewriting database queries, and it wouldn't pay us if we had. They also point out that "this is the way we've always done it, and we're comfortable with it..." Group B however say that they agree that we don't have the time to go back and change existing queries, we really ought to be adopting the "new" syntax on code that we write from here on in. They say that developers only really look at a single query at a time, and that so long as developers know both syntax there is nothing to be gained from rigidly sticking to the old syntax, which might be deprecated at some point in the future. Without declaring with which group my loyalties lie, I am interested in hearing the opinions of impartial observers - so let the games commence! Martin. Ps.   • ActiveMerchant - Optimal method of sending money to user? PayPal account or Credit

    I have a website that will take payments from user A, hold them in our escrow account, then transfer the money minus a fee to user B. I have the first part figured out, in terms of taking credit card payments from user A, but I'm trying to figure out the optimal method of taking that money and sending it to user B. I'm not storing credit card info due to privacy and I don't mind requiring user B to sign up for a PayPal account if they're going to use the system but I don't know how to directly send payments to a PayPal account. I'm using ActiveMerchant and the PayPal gateway on Rails 2.3.5. I'm also open to any suggestions as to what the optimal method is to take money from user A, hold it for 1-60 days, then transfer it to user B while incurring minimal fees and something I can implement in Rails hopefully that won't cause me to have an aneurysm.

  • How can I create a new email account in Java?

    I am able to send and receive emails from my JSPs and associated Java code using the Java Mail API (javax.mail.*). Now I would like to create a new POP3 email account programmatically when a user registers for my site. I've found surprisingly little information about this with web searches. I would think it would be a somewhat common problem. It appears that the Java Mail API does not provide any assistance in this area. I have many email accounts available under my godaddy account, and to manually create an account, I just go to the godaddy email control panel, click Add, and specify the email address and password. This is exactly what I would like to do via a Java program. Any ideas?
