ssh freezes when trying to connect to some hosts

When I try to ssh to particular machine/s in a list, The SSH command happens to be freezing. I tried out setting ssh timeout. But then also it's freezes even after the timeout. In verbose mode : OpenSSH_3.9p1, OpenSSL 0.9.7a Feb 19 2003 debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config debug1: Applying options for * debug1: Connecting to x358.x.server.com [10.x.x.x] port 22. debug1: fd 3 clearing O_NONBLOCK debug1: Connection established. debug1: identity file /export/home/sqlrpt/.ssh/identity type -1 debug1: identity file /export/home/sqlrpt/.ssh/id_rsa type -1 debug1: identity file /export/home/sqlrpt/.ssh/id_dsa type 2 At this point it freezes. A work around I thought was to create a child process for each ssh calls and if the process doesn't respond after a timeout - Kill it. But are there any less complex ways, so that I can accommodate it in a shell script itself rather than going for a C/C++ program ?

Iframe Javascript call to Flex

ATI driver in Fedora linux 11

I recently built a pc with an ATI Radeon HD 5750. I have installed Fedora 11 and installed the device driver for the Radeon 5700 series proprietary drivers. I wanted to see if there is graphics hardware acceleration. I typed in glxinfo at the terminal and I got: X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation) Major opcode of failed request: 135 (GLX) Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString) Serial number of failed request: 14 Current serial number in output stream: 14 I don't know how to fix this. I tried to go to the ATI Catalyst Control Center; that worked, but the ATI Catalyst Control Center (Administrator) doesn't work. If anyone knows how to fix this problem then please let me know. PS/2 mouse works with Windows 7 32-bit but not recognised by 64-bit, What to do?

Our USB mouse was stolen and a PS/2 OK_520 Mouse that works OK on my Medion PC, running Windows 7 32-bit, if plugged in before booting, is not recognised by Windows 7 64-bit on a Dell INSPIRONone_19T with a 19" Touch Screen. (It is a communal computer available to all residents.) A USB mouse works OK and the Update Driver option reports: 'driver is up to date'. Without the USB Mouse, Device Manager/Mice shows only the Touch Screen as a Mouse. The Add New Hardware option searches but shows nothing and the Troubleshooter says ' device possibly not recognised, alterations made to system, try again.' but it is still not recognised after repeated re-boots. The BIOS does not seem to have any option to enable a PS/2 Mouse. The Mouse is very old so maybe it is not 64-bit compatible, or there is no 64-bit driver for one, but how to get one if the device is not recognised?

Why do people like widescreen when it is, de facto, less space?

I find that many of my friends/non-programmers or designers like widescreens. It makes very little sense to me as you in fact have less space than a 4:3 (do the math). The closer to a perfect square the more space you actually have on your screen. I got a 21" 16:9 and two 19" 4:3 The 21" is nearly the same height, but I think its a tenth of an inch shorter if I'm correct. I forget the calculation but it is nearly the same actual space. I can understand if you're using your computer for constant movie-watching but I think that's more of people's "ideal" than a reality. Thoughts?

External Hard Disk's secter could not be read ?

I've an 500 GB Seagate External Hard Disk (NTFS) . Currently, I can't open it at Windows. Thus, I've tired with chkdsk command .. but still it stopped and can't continue checking disk.. Also I've tired with fsck on Mac . Then, it shows me the Error .. /Volumes/<HD Name>/ is not a character device CONTINUE? yes /Volumes/<HD Name>/ (NO WRITE) CANNOT READ: BLK 16 CONTINUE? yes THE FOLLOWING DISK SECTORS COULD NOT BE READ: 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, ioctl (GCINFO): Inappropriate ioctl for device fsck: /Volumes/<HD Name>/: can't read disk label The volume I've used is around 300 GB , Thus, it's hard to back up and format again . Thus, any helpful suggestions and solutions will be appreciated pretty well.

I am a new user of Ubuntu. When I type df -h in terminal , it gives me list of all storage devices and space usage. In my system I get this. My question is what are the other folders and what is the physical location of these folders if complete memory is taken by the device dev/sda?

Why Do I See the "In Recovery" Msg, and How Can I Prevent it?

The project I'm working on creates a local copy of the SQL Server database for each SVN branch you work on. We're running SQL Server 2008 Express with Advanced Services on our local machine to host it. When we create a new branch, the build script will create a new database with the ID of that branch, creates the schema objects, and copies over a selection of data from the production shadow server. After the database is created, it, or other databases on the local machine, will often go into "In Recovery" mode for several minutes. After several refreshes it comes up and is happy, but will occasionally go back into "In Recovery" mode. The database is created in simple recovery mode. The file names aren't specified, so it uses default paths for files. The size of the database after loading data is ~400 megs. It is running in SQL Server 2005 compatibility mode. The command that creates the database is: sqlcmd -S $(DBServer) -Q "IF NOT EXISTS (SELECT [name] FROM sysdatabases WHERE [name] = '$(DBName)') BEGIN CREATE DATABASE [$(DBName)]; print 'Created $(DBName)'; END" ...where $(DBName) and $(DBServer) are MSBuild parameters. I got a nice clean log file this morning. When I turned on my computer it starts all five databases. However, two of them show transactions being rolled forward and backwards. I just installed openjdk6-jre on Ubuntu 10.04 java version "1.6.0_20" OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.9.2) (6b20-1.9.2-0ubuntu1~10.04.1) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 19.0-b09, mixed mode) Every time I run "java" I get this error: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. This can be solved by specifying a maximum heap size and running "java -Xmx256m" But is there anyway to permanently fix this error (i.e. set the default heap size to 256MB so that I do not need to specify the max heap size every time I run the command)

Fun projects to do with an old 17" LCD Monitor

I've got an old 17" LCD that I've had for nearly 9 years now but still works pretty well. It's been my secondary monitor for a few years, but I just got a new 24" monitor, so my current main LCD (19") will become the new secondary screen. Any good suggestions of interesting (and preferably cheap/free) hacks, etc. I could do with this old monitor? I don't want to just throw it out. For example, is there an easy way to turn it into a touch screen or something? I'm open to suggestions

Restoring exchange 2003 from a backup

Hi all, I'm restoring an Exchange server from a backup: [1] the backup was created on 19/12/2010 [2] the server kept running until 20/12/2010 [3] we're restoring the server today 21/12/2010 with the backup from [1] My understanding is that when the server comes back: [4] whatever is in users' inbox since [1] will be deleted. [5] whatever is in users' sent box since [2] should be re-sent. [6] As a safety measure we've moved all emails sent/received between [1] and [3] to .PST files. Questions: -are [4] & [5] statements correct? -is there any way to move back emails from the PST file [6] to the current inbox/sent folders so that Exchange takes these emails into account (instead of deleting them)? -what happens to the Calendar items that were added after [1], is there any way to back those up as well if needed? Prevent Excel Chart Data Labels overlapping

I have an Excel dashboard with line charts containing data labels. Specifically, we are only using the data labels at the rightmost end of the lines, and the labels consist of the Series name and final value. By changing a dropdown, the dashboard is automatically updated to give 19 different dashboards. The problem is that we can't work out any way of preventing the labels overlapping. Everything else on the dashboard can be made to automatically update nicely, except for this. Can anybody think of a way to do this? E.g. plugin or macro.

Creating bootable Fedora USB with persistent storage

I am attempting to burn the full Fedora 19 x86_64 DVD iso to a USB drive and have a separate partition on it for a kickstart file / other media that will be installed in the kickstart process. With the Ubuntu server 12 iso, you can simply dd the iso to the usb drive: dd if=/path/to/iso of=/dev/sdb Once the iso has been burnt, open gparted and create a ext2 parition in the allocated space. However, this does not seem to work with the Fedora ISO. When loading the USB drive in gparted I get a warning and an error: Warning: The driver descriptor says the physical block size is 2048 bytes, but Linux says it is 512 bytes. Error: The partition's data region doesn't occupy the entire partition. Ignoring both of these errors allows gparted to load the usb drive, however it shows a blank drive with no partition table. Has anyone come across this before? From what I have found, it may have something to do with the fact that Fedora use isohybrid.

Hyper-V: determine the guest's name given the GUID

How would I go about determining the guest's name given its GUID or vice-versa, preferably with only the Hyper-V/Server Core stock install at hands? Rationale: I am in favor of having a repository of dirty tricks to revert to when in great need. To immediately quiesce all (storage) operations of a VM guest without losing the state, I used to run kill 17 <all VM's virtual processes> (signaling SIGSTOP) and resumed afterwards using kill 19 <all VM's virtual processes> (signaling SIGCONT) in ESXi/vSphere shell. I tried the same technique with Hyper-V using Process Explorer's "Suspend" functionality on the vmwp.exe processes and it seemed to work. I have yet to find a way for easily identifying the processes to suspend, though - the vmwp command line is only listing a GUID.

Blurred refurbished TFT

I got 3 refurbished PC+TFT 19". All TFT shows a very blurry image. I estimate the TFT's are 2-3 yrs old. The PC's running Windows7 Pro. The resolution is set to the TFT native values. It could be possible that all TFT's are broken but I have similiar models that are up to 5 yrs old, without any issue. I still think it could be a config issue but from the hardware it is possible that a TFT get broken I shows up a very blurry image. Update TFT HP 2035, grafic Intel Q35/GMA 3100, analog D-SUB connector, Manuf. date Sep 2005. Config. resolution 1600x1200, PPP 150% Without ClearType it is worst. Desktop Icon titles seems to be good and clear. But in Notepad for example the effect is that on the right of the characters is a pinky shadow.

Economical way to get many harddrives into rack mount?

Hi everyone, Please bear with me as being a bit of a newcomer at 19" rack-mounted equipment. I've thought a fair bit lately about the best way of getting 4x or 6x of 2.5" hard drives into my rack and are right now currently slightly confused about would be the best (economical) solution. After scouting the market, I've found this type of disk array units that offers built in RAID and a lot of drive slots and a truckload of geek cred, but at a price that just isn't going to fit in my budget. I've also found these type of cute adapters that takes two 2.5" drives in one 3.5" slot, but I will obviously need a chassie with a lot of 3.5" spaces in order to make it work. So what is the most economical way to house my harddrives in my rack?

I am just using the standard apache config file which mentions that it follows symlinks, but when I hit the url http://localhost/test it downloads the symlink file instead of following it. What config do I need to change to get apache to follow the symlink instead of downloading it? Will response rate make a difference? What is good brightness? What is a good contrast ratio? Definitely there are other things to look for, so please give me your opinion. Also, what screen size is good for reading? What size would you choose from 17-22? I'm thinking of getting one 17-19 for reading, and one 22 for movies. Or maybe 2 22" one vertical and one horizontal is better? I think I should look for lower native res., right?

Problem with Lenovo x200s Wifi under Ubutu Karmic

Hi, I have just gotten my Lenovo X200s laptop, and I am install Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic on it. The installation went through without a hitch, but I can't get my wifi to work. lspci | grep Network Produces the following results: 00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82567LM Gigabit Network Connection (rev 03) 03:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
