  • Dynamically creating a member ID card as pdf using PHP?

    I need to code a PHP script that would let me generate a pdf file which displays a member ID card (something like a credit card used to identify oneself) at a certain resolution. Let me explain: I do have the basic blueprint of the card in png file format. The script needs to drop in a member's name and birthday along with a serial. So far, no problem - there are plenty of good working PHP libraries out there. My problem is to ensure that the resulting pdf (the generated image of the card, to be precise) meets a certain resolution (preferably 300dpi), so that printing it would look right. Any ideas?   • Importing large datasets on iPhone using CoreData

    Hi there, I'm facing very annoying problem. My iPhone app is loading it's data from a network server. Data are sent as plist and when parsed, it neeeds to be stored to SQLite db using CoreData. Issue is that in some cases those datasets are too big (5000+ records) and import takes way too long. More on that, when iPhone tries to suspend the screen, Watchdog kills the app because it's still processing the import and does not respond up to 5 seconds, so import is never finished. I used all recommended techniques according to article "Efficiently Importing Data" http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/DOCUMENTATION/Cocoa/Conceptual/CoreData/Articles/cdImporting.html and other docs concerning this, but it's still awfully slow. Solution I'm looking for is to let app suspend, but let import run in behind (better one) or to prevent attempts to suspend the app at all. Or any better idea is welcomed too. Any tips on how to overcome these issues are highly appreciated! Thanks

  • Abstract Forms using WinForms

    I’m trying to achieve a similar affect in a WinForms application as a master form does with ASP.NET. My initial thoughts on this were to create a base form and declare it as abstract, but the compiler doesn’t seem to let me do this. public abstract partial class Master : Form { public Master() { InitializeComponent(); } } So I have two questions: Why will the compiler not let me do this? Am I using the wrong syntax or is this a genuine restriction. Can anyone suggest a workaround or better way to do this?   • Clojure lots of threads

    I just got done watching Rick Hickey's "Clojure Concurrency" talk, and I have a few questions about threads. Let's say I have a situation with lots of Agents, let's say 10,000 of them running one machine. I'd rather not have 10,000 CPU threads running at once, but I don't want threads to be blocked by the actions of other threads. In this example I won't really be waiting for replies, instead each Agent will be sending a message or two, and then waiting until it gets a message. How would I structure a program like this without getting 10k OS threads which would probably end up slowing the system down.

  • VB.net Edit-And-Continue: ignore "unable to apply this change while debugging"

    When using VB.Net (2008) and paused in debugging, Edit-And-Continue is a great time-saver. However if you change any module/class-level information (variable, sub/function signature, etc), you get the error message like this: "unable to apply this change while debugging" While I can understand the technical challenge to making this work (and why it would be hard), it leaves me in a tight spot with just a few options: 1) Restart and recompile and get the program back to the same state 2) Continue debugging without making the change, and risk forgetting 3) Type up a reminder note to make the change All of which are annoying. Now I know that option '4) Just actually make the change' may not be possible. but does anybody know how to enable the following 'technically easy' possibility? 4) Let me change the code, get it flagged with the purple squiggly underline, so I can save it, but just ignore the change until recompile I have checked the Tools|options|debug|edit and continue, nothing appears to let me do this. thanks!

    Hi experts, In tab container let say I have two tabs [Tab1 & Tab2] Tab1 has 2 text box with required field validator Tab2 has 3 text box with required field validator Now even if I am filling all the text boxes in the TAB1, it is not allowing me to postback. [because TAB2 text boxes are still empty] & When I am filling all the textboxes [Both Tab1 & Tab2], button is firing correctly. How to avoid this ?? I mean user has to fill details for the TAB1 & can submit the details. At that Time I don't want TAB2 validations to work. Please help & kindly let me know if anything else is required.

    Let me preface this by saying this is not an actual situation of mine but I'm asking this question more for my own knowledge and to get other people's inputs here. I've used both Spring and EJB3/JBoss, and for the smaller types of applications I've built, Spring (+Tomcat when needed) has been much simpler to use. However, when scaling up to larger applications that require things like load balancing and clustering, is Spring still a viable solution? Or is it time to turn to a solution like EJB3/JBoss when you start to get big enough to need that? I'm not sure if I've scoped the problem well enough to get a good answer, so please let me know.   • IIS7 - Specifying content-length header in ASP causes "connection reset" error

    I'm migrating a series of websites from an existing IIS5 server to a brand new IIS7 web server. One of the pages pulls a data file from a blob in the database and serves it to the end user: Response.ContentType = rs("contentType") Response.AddHeader "Content-Disposition", "attachment;filename=" & Trim(rs("docName"))&rs("suffix")' let the browser know the file name Response.AddHeader "Content-Length", cstr(rs("docsize"))' let the browser know the file size Testing this in the new IIS7 install, I get a "Connection Reset" error in both Internet Explorer and Firefox. The document is served up correctly if the Content-Length header is removed (but then the user won't get a useful progress bar). Any ideas on how to correct this; whether it be a server configuration option or via code? Thanks.

    What is the difference between a rules engine and an expert system? Example1: Let's say that I have a program that determines the expiration date of a new driver's license. It takes inputs like visa expiration date, passport number, birthday, etc. It determines the expiration date of the driver's license from this input. It can even give an error if the input did not have enough valid identifications to allow a new driver's license. Example2: Let's say I am making an online version of the game Monopoly. I want the ability to change the rules of the game (say $400 for passing go or no one can buy properties until they land on the same property twice, etc). I have a module in the code to handle these rules. Are these both rules engines or are they expert systems? They both seem so similar. Is it just a synonym?

    Hello, Let say I have a BitmapData with different pixels representing an object, and some black pixels around it that I want to remove. I would like to obtain a new BitmapData, with width and height of the object represented by non-black pixels. For example, let say I have a BitmapData 400x400px, but the object represented by non-black pixels occupies the rect: x=100, y=100, width=200, height=200. I want to get new BitmapData representing that rect, all black pixels should be removed. Any idea on how to do this please ?

    Hi I had added the Stored procedure in my Entity framework and i also imported the functions in the edmx. Is it must to add all the three functions insert, update, and delete functions to a table. I had tried with insert alone and also with all, but why can't i get the name of the stored procedure in the connection string. Let me know what i done clearly. I had added the sp i had imported the functions in the model browser. i had also mapped the insert, update and delete function to the table with return type only for insert and update.     I am building a service that will have a 'forgot my password' feature. In addition to that, it will also email users when results are ready from my service. I would like to ensure delivery of my emails so I was looking around to find a service that would let me send emails. All that I've been able to find so far are services that require a user to opt-in to a list. In other words, I've been unable to find any that will let me send customized messages to individual users. I am currently using swiftmailer for php but would really like to find a service to do this...Anyone know of one? G-Man

    I'm sorry if it's not an appropriate question for this site, and if it's necesary I'll close this question. But maybe someone could give me an ideea: I'm trying to find a more complex index to make an hierarchy. For example: 5 votes from 6 = 83% AND 500 votes from 600 = 83%; 10 votes from 600 = 1.66% If I make a hierarchy with the %, first two will be on the same place, but I think that 83% from 600 it's more valuable than the first one. I could compare 5, 10, 500, but again it's not fair because the third case (10 votes) will be in front of the first case (5 votes), wich it's not fair beacuse the third case has only 1.66% Maybe someone could give me an ideea how to give more weight for the second case but in the same time let the let the new entries have a fair chance.

    There are two main open source .net Amazon S3 libraries. Three Sharp LitS3 I am currently using LitS3 in our MVC demo project, but there is some criticism about it. Has anyone here used both libraries so they can give an objective point of view.   • ListView in ArrayAdapter order get's mixed up when scrolling

    Hi, I have a ListView in a custom ArrayAdapter that displays an icon ImageView and a TextView in each row. When I make the list long enough to let you scroll through it, the order starts out right, but when I start to scroll down, some of the earlier entries start re-appearing. If I scroll back up, the old order changes. Doing this repeatedly eventually causes the entire list order to be seemingly random. So scrolling the list is either causing the child order to change, or the drawing is not refreshing correctly. What could cause something like this to happen? I need the order the items are displayed to the user to be the same order they are added to the ArrayList, or at LEAST to remain in one static order. If I need to provide more detailed information, please let me know. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

    Hello! I'm developing an administration panel (in php), for a website (in a shared host), to let the administrator to manage the personal infos of the employees! With this panel should be possible to create or delete an e-mail account for an employee and if the employee logs in the admin panel, he/she should be able to access to his/her e-mail account! I had thought to install Horde WebMail on the website to let the employees use their e-mail accounts ... but how can I pass the login credentials to Horde? And what you suggest to create and delete the e-mails account that can be read by Horde? Any other suggestion is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!! EDIT: Or are there better alternatives to Horde to accomplish, at least, the e-mail account access from within the web site?

    My situation is Using .NET 3.5 Using SDL.NET Need to make a friendly installer or warning system. Chances are the user will be on XP (.NET 1.1). If possible can i do something to let the user know he needs to update to 3.5? Maybe have a yes/no dialog which downloads and install the .NET runtimes for him? Now how do i detect if the user has sdl.net installed (chances are its in program files/sdldotnet) and let them know they need sdl.net runtime and have a yes/no dialog that brings them to http://sourceforge.net/projects/cs-sdl/files/ The problem i have mostly is how to make the app not outright crash and how to download 3.5 .NET runtime if it is possible.

At the end of the game, the player with the highest number wins. Now, let's say I'm a cheater. I want to write the game so player #1 (which will be me) has a probability of 90% to get six, and 2% to get each of the rest numbers (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).     Hi, I know theres hundred of questions and answers out there, but cant find one to specifically answer this. I need a web editor that will let me choose a dark themed editor. I understand gvim is one, but im not totally ready to let go of my mouse. I would like something like sublime text editor for windows, but open to other suggestions. The less bloat the best. I dont need a full IDE like eclipse, but willing to compromise, as long as the themes can easily be added. I've tried bluefish, kompozer and not happy with them. Just need a basic text editor that will highlight php syntax on a dark background.

    I am looking to create a special type of combination in which no two sets have more than one intersecting element. Let me explain with an example: Let us say we have 9 letter set that contains A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, and I If you create the standard non-repeating combinations of three letters you will have 9C3 sets. These will contain sets like ABC, ABD, BCD, etc. I am looking to create sets that have at the most only 1 common letter. So in this example, we will get following sets: ABC, ADG, AEI, AFH, BEH, BFG, BDI, CFI, CDH, CEG, DEF, and GHI - note that if you take any two sets there are no more than 1 repeating letter. What would be a good way to generate such sets? It should be scalable solution so that I can do it for a set of 1000 letters, with sub set size of 4. Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks
