  • How to Read XML and Generate SQL Insert

    - by hackerkatt
I am trying to write a VB Script to read a XML file (downloaded daily) and insert the information into a MSSQL DB. The content of the XML is a list if CDRs (Call Data Records). I need to parse the file and insert the cdr's into a table. I'm a Ruby,Perl,PHP,Javascript,SQL,... programer. But I've really never written any VB Script. I've done some googling and find a number of examples on how to generate XML from a SQL Query, but not the reverse. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

  • Sending mail via Exchange, why am I being flagged as spam?

    - by Dan
Exchange 2007 uses direct DNS for all outgoing mail. Mail that is sent from our public IP (1.2.3.4 - this is the IP of my mailserver) is delivered to the spam folders for providers such as Comcast and yahoo. Currently, our SPF looks like this: v=spf1 ip4:1.2.3.4 mx a:mail.domain.com ?all MX: mail.domain.com.(10) The reverse DNS entry on our ISP is mail.domain.com for our IP The banner HELO response from our server is <220 mail.domain.com Our IP address is NOT blacklisted anywhere, and the Cisco Senderbase gives us a score of Good What is the reason our mail doesn't look legit?

  • ZFS on top of iSCSI

    - by Solipsism
I'm planning on building out a file server using ZFS and BSD, and I was hoping to make it more expandable by attaching drives stored in other machines in the same rack via iSCSI (e.g., one machine is running ZFS, and others have iSCSI targets available to be connected to by the ZFS box and added to zpools). Looking for other people who have tried this has pretty much lead me to resources about exposing iSCSI shares on top of ZFS, but nothing about the reverse. Primarily I have the following questions: Is iSCSI over gigabit ethernet fast enough for this purpose, or would I have to switch to 10GbE to get decent performance? What would happen when one of the machines running iSCSI targets disconnects from the network? Is there a better way to do this that I just am not clever enough to have realized? Thanks for any help.

  • How to monitor nginx proxy cache?

    - by Isaac
I would like to see which objects get cached by my nginx reverse proxy (with an apache as a backend). So far I could not find a way, only the info that its not implemented yet. The reason is that I would like to tweak my configuration for best performance without putting too much stress on the server, as the backend is a production system. I know benchmarking would be better, but its not an option right now. So I though an alternative measure would be to monitor the cache. Is that possible, and if yes, how? (despite patching nginx with the patch mentioned in the link above)

  • Forward Request to Multiple Servers

    - by cactuarz
We have 2 servers. One is old server and another is the new one. Currently we about doing a migration because the old server is not capable enough to handle everyday requests. The specs are: Old server Ubuntu 10.04 Nginx as Reverse Proxy Apache WSGI Python/Django New Server Ubuntu 10.04 Nginx Gunicorn Python/Django Celery+Redis Our manager asked us to research if the old server can perform multiple forwarding to all incoming request, for example, set Nginx of old server to forward all request to both old and new server. The purpose is to perform unit testing to new server using old server as comparer, see if the new server is ready to take over the role. Please help, if there is an idea, or must install some engine, or what we do is impossible. Many thanks.

  • Twisted pair cable twists and unwanted signals issue

    - by ziaharipur
I am confused about one point I have read the following paragraph from the networking book. “the twists in the twisted pair cable are used to avoid the unwanted signals. For example one twist, one wire is closer to the noise source and the other is farther; in the next twist the reverse is true. Twisting makes its probable that both wires are equally affected by the unwanted signal. This means that the receiver which calculate the difference between the two receives no unwanted signal.” Now ok I understood the purpose of twists but I am confused about how receiver will calculate the difference when it will receive the signal?. How unwanted signal will be eliminated ? Another thing that I want to make clear is , I am beginner please provide such an answer that can be understood.

  • Hostname issue (Linux)

    - by Dremarturg
Hey, I have a strange problem: I have a mail-server. And I have a strange issue with hostnames on ubuntu. When I send an e-mail there is a line in the headers: Received from domain (ip6-localhost [127.0.0.1]) but my hosts file does not have domain.com The domain does not really fit in since domain.com was just for testing and I want to get rid of this! /etc/hosts and etc/hostname do not have an entry for domain.com. Any ideas? (Reverse DNS is okay)

  • How to know which protocol is used in data transfer and inspect that data?

    - by user37880
I've a .net application for windows. This application transfers a lot of data to and from a particular server on a fix port no 8888. I tried 'Tcpview' but couldn't figure out anything useful. I only figured that it uses 'tcp' connection. Is there a way to know which protocol is used for data transfer (I think port no 8888 is not specific port so not helpful)? How exactly my machine makes connection to this server? Is it telnet/http etc or what? How can I inspect the actual data which is being transferred? If data is encrypted, is it possible to know encryption method on client side (without reverse engineering)? Thanks.

  • SMTP 25 blocked externally

    - by Jeff
not sure how to title this question... we run an exchange server with around 80 internal users, all outgoing mail is relayed off a smart host (ISP smtp server) so nothing is actually sent to the world via our server. i wanted to check the server, locally i can telnet to port 25 with no issues and receive the esmtp service ready reply. whenever i do it from an external address (off our local network) i receive unable to connect error 10060. can this cause problems with SPF records, and reverse DNS ? should my exchange server be able to accept smtp requests, requiring authentication before i am able to send from external addresses? if so how... also the exchange server is behind a NAT (asa) device, more than likely thinking that the nat is not configured to route the smtp 25 request to the exchange server.. thanks

  • Trying to build a history of popular laptop models

    - by John
A requirement on a software project is it should run on typical business laptops up to X years old. However while given a specific model number I can normally find out when it was sold, I can't find data to do the reverse... for a given year I want to see what model numbers were released/discontinued. We're talking big-name, popular models like Dell Latitude/Precision/Vostro, Thinkpads, HP, etc. The data for any model is out there but getting a timeline is proving hard. Sites like Dell are (unsurprisingly) geared around current products, and even Wikipedia isn't proving very reliable. You'd think this data must have been collated by manufacturers or enthusiasts, surely?

  • Gui for viewing Apache headers

    - by user49249
Is there any GUI for viewing Apache headers which are being served by a chain of Reverse Proxy Servers. I have a cloud which uses a few Proxy Servers in between the client and actual server which has to serve the original request. All servers are Unix Servers. And if there is a problem which I do not get a clue to then to be able to post them here downloading and doing an ftp of those headers with all the logs , loging in each time to each proxy server and Opening the browser and exporting the X display to some remote server each time from the chain and then observing HTTP_RESPONSES and checking the request from each of those servers and then posting log with configuration and response takes at least 2-3 hours to type an email. Is there a shorter way to do so?

  • Can I create an Infrastructure access point from built-in WiFi (as opposed to Ad-Hoc) on Windows XP?

    - by evilspoons
I want to use my Windows XP laptop as an access point. What I am trying to achieve is possible under Windows 7 with a myriad of utilities, but the wireless driver stack was different before Windows 7 and those specific APIs don't exist on XP. The reason behind me wanting to do this is that I would like my Android phone to be able to connect via WiFi to a network that is only hard-wired (reverse tethering). Unfortunately, my Android device (Galaxy S Captivate) does not support ad-hoc networks without a serious amount of screwing around. Is it possible to create an "Infrastructure" network with my Dell Latitude D830's built-in WiFi - a "Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN Card", which I am assuming is probably rebadged Broadcom, or is there some fundamental difference between a wireless adapter and an access point that would prevent this?

  • Identify malicious subnet

    - by Macros
I have been experiencing performance issues on a website for a while, and it always seems to hit around the same time. Having analysed the logs I've found a big spike in requests which corresponds with this slowdown, with all requests coming from the same subnet. It feels to me like an attempt to scrape the site (it is a car hire site and the requests are sequential for each IP and with incremental search criteria) and I would like to identify the source. The Subnet in question is 209.67.89.x which I can see is owned by Savvis however I can't reverse DNS any of the IPs - is there any other way I can gain more info on this (other than contacting them direct - I am also doing this)?

  • BBDB/OrgMode Workflow to store additional information

    - by Matth
What is the best strategy to establish links and reverse links to my contacts stored in BBDB? My Outline is similar to this: * Projects ** a ** b -> link to contact? ** c * Notes ** 2014-04-02 Meeting with Contact A -> link to contact? How can I create a workflow so that all references to this contact are shown, once I open this contact in BBDB? Currently I use a "hack" where I manually enter links to the entries in the "Notes" field of that entry. But as it is not possible to inclide org-mode outlines in the "Notes" filed, it is an appalling list unusable links.

  • Is is better to combine Apache for file manipulation and upload and Nginx for static file serving, or to use one of the two alone

    - by user1032393
Based on my research, I've read that nginx is best and ideal for serving up static files and images. My application depends heavily on uploading of images and rewriting them, then serving them up. Given that I only have one VPS currently, it has been suggested that I use nginx to serve up the images and website, and reverse proxy to Apache (on the same VPS) to rewrite files with image magick and handle the file uploads. Which would be the best solution, Apache, Nginx, or Apache + Nginx? In terms of best solution, I'm looking at minimal average RAM consumption, while maintaining decent load speed of maybe sub 2 seconds?

  • How does this decorator make a call to the 'register' method?

  • How can I pipe two Perl CORE::system commands in a cross-platform way?

    - by Pedro Silva
I'm writing a System::Wrapper module to abstract away from CORE::system and the qx operator. I have a serial method that attempts to connect command1's output to command2's input. I've made some progress using named pipes, but POSIX::mkfifo is not cross-platform. Here's part of what I have so far (the run method at the bottom basically calls system): package main; my $obj1 = System::Wrapper->new( interpreter => 'perl', arguments => [-pe => q{''}], input => ['input.txt'], description => 'Concatenate input.txt to STDOUT', ); my $obj2 = System::Wrapper->new( interpreter => 'perl', arguments => [-pe => q{'$_ = reverse $_}'}], description => 'Reverse lines of input input', output => { '>' => 'output' }, ); $obj1->serial( $obj2 ); package System::Wrapper; #... sub serial { my ($self, @commands) = @_; eval { require POSIX; POSIX->import(); require threads; }; my $tmp_dir = File::Spec->tmpdir(); my $last = $self; my @threads; push @commands, $self; for my $command (@commands) { croak sprintf "%s::serial: type of args to serial must be '%s', not '%s'", ref $self, ref $self, ref $command || $command unless ref $command eq ref $self; my $named_pipe = File::Spec->catfile( $tmp_dir, int \$command ); POSIX::mkfifo( $named_pipe, 0777 ) or croak sprintf "%s::serial: couldn't create named pipe %s: %s", ref $self, $named_pipe, $!; $last->output( { '>' => $named_pipe } ); $command->input( $named_pipe ); push @threads, threads->new( sub{ $last->run } ); $last = $command; } $_->join for @threads; } #... My specific questions: Is there an alternative to POSIX::mkfifo that is cross-platform? Win32 named pipes don't work, as you can't open those as regular files, neither do sockets, for the same reasons. 2. The above doesn't quite work; the two threads get spawned correctly, but nothing flows across the pipe. I suppose that might have something to do with pipe deadlocking or output buffering. What throws me off is that when I run those two commands in the actual shell, everything works as expected. Point 2 is solved; a -p fifo file test was not testing the correct file.

  • Strange behaviour when simply adding strings in Lazarus - FreePascal

    - by linkcharger
The program has several "encryption" algorithms. This one should blockwise reverse the input. "He|ll|o " becomes "o |ll|He" (block length of 2). I add two strings, in this case appending the result string to the current "block" string and making that the result. When I add the result first and then the block it works fine and gives me back the original string. But when i try to reverse the order it just gives me the the last "block". Several other functions that are used for "rotation" are above. //amount of blocks function amBl(i1:integer;i2:integer):integer; begin if (i1 mod i2) <> 0 then result := (i1 div i2) else result := (i1 div i2) - 1; end; //calculation of block length function calcBl(keyStr:string):integer; var i:integer; begin result := 0; for i := 1 to Length(keyStr) do begin result := (result + ord(keyStr[i])) mod 5; result := result + 2; end; end; //desperate try to add strings function append(s1,s2:string):string; begin insert(s2,s1,Length(s1)+1); result := s1; end; function rotation(inStr,keyStr:string):string; var //array of chars -> string block, temp:string; //position in block variable posB:integer; //block length and block count variable bl, bc:integer; //null character as placeholder n : ansiChar; begin //calculating block length 2..6 bl := calcBl(keyStr); setLength(block,bl); result := ''; temp := ''; {n := #00;} for bc := 0 to amBl(Length(inStr),bl) do begin //filling block with chars starting from back of virtual block (in inStr) for posB := 1 to bl do begin block[posB] := inStr[bc * bl + posB]; {if inStr[bc * bl + posB] = ' ' then block[posB] := n;} end; //adding the block in front of the existing result string temp := result; result := block + temp; //result := append(block, temp); //result := concat(block, temp); end; end; (full code http://pastebin.com/6Uarerhk) After all the loops "result" has the right value, but in the last step (between "result := block + temp" and the "end;" of the function) "block" replaces the content of "result" with itself completely, it doesn't add result at the end anymore. And as you can see I even used a temp variable to try to work around that.. doesnt change anything though.

  • Select list shrinks in size horizontally when empty

    - by joe
    Hello, I have two select list boxes and i can move items back and forth between them using the forward (--) and backward (<--) button. However, if there are no items in a select list, it shrinks in size horizontally. Any way to keep the select list a fixed size, irrespective of whether it contains any options or not ? Below is the code: <html> <head> <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> <!-- var NS4 = (navigator.appName == "Netscape" && parseInt(navigator.appVersion) < 5); function addOption(theSel, theText, theValue) { var newOpt = new Option(theText, theValue); var selLength = theSel.length; theSel.options[selLength] = newOpt; } function deleteOption(theSel, theIndex) { var selLength = theSel.length; if(selLength>0) { theSel.options[theIndex] = null; } } function moveOptions(theSelFrom, theSelTo) { var selLength = theSelFrom.length; var selectedText = new Array(); var selectedValues = new Array(); var selectedCount = 0; var i; // Find the selected Options in reverse order // and delete them from the 'from' Select. for(i=selLength-1; i>=0; i--) { if(theSelFrom.options[i].selected) { selectedText[selectedCount] = theSelFrom.options[i].text; selectedValues[selectedCount] = theSelFrom.options[i].value; deleteOption(theSelFrom, i); selectedCount++; } } // Add the selected text/values in reverse order. // This will add the Options to the 'to' Select // in the same order as they were in the 'from' Select. for(i=selectedCount-1; i>=0; i--) { addOption(theSelTo, selectedText[i], selectedValues[i]); } if(NS4) history.go(0); } //--> </script> </head> <body> <form action="yourpage.asp" method="post"> <table border="0"> <tr> <td width="70"> <select name="sel1" size="10" multiple="multiple"> <option value="1">Left1</option> <option value="2">Left2</option> <option value="3">Left3</option> <option value="4">Left4</option> <option value="5">Left5</option> </select> </td> <td align="center" valign="middle"> <input type="button" value="--&gt;" onclick="moveOptions(this.form.sel1, this.form.sel2);" /><br /> <input type="button" value="&lt;--" onclick="moveOptions(this.form.sel2, this.form.sel1);" /> </td> <td> <select name="sel2" size="10" multiple="multiple"> <option value="1">Right1</option> <option value="2">Right2</option> <option value="3">Right3</option> <option value="4">Right4</option> <option value="5">Right5</option> </select> </td> </tr> </table> </form> </body> </html> Please help.   • Login to Windows 8 Desktop Mode Automatically with ClassicStarter [Downloads]

    - by Asian Angel
The other day we shared a quick keyboard tip for going straight to Desktop Mode in Windows 8 when you logged in. Today we are back with a small app that gets you straight to Desktop Mode with ‘set it and forget it’ ease. You will need to install ClassicStarter after you have extracted the contents of the zip file. Once that is done simply start the app up and this is what you will see… The only thing you will need to do is click on the Classic Desktop Button. Once you have clicked on the Classic Desktop Button it will ‘grey out’. Simply exit the app, log out, and then log back into your system. The Start Screen will display for a moment or two, but everything will shift over to Desktop Mode automatically without any additional actions required on your part. To reverse the process and set the Start Screen as the default just start the app up again and click on the Metro Desktop Button, exit the app, and then log out/log back in. • Is Learning C++ Through The Qt Framework Really Learning C++

    - by user866190
The problem I have, is that most of the C++ books I read spend almost forever on syntax and the basics of the language, e.g. for and loops while, arrays, lists, pointers, etc. But they never seem to build anything that is simple enough to use for learning, yet practical enough to get you to understand the philosophy and power of the language. Then I stumbled upon QT which is an amazing library! But working through the demos they have, it seems like I am now in the reverse dilemma. I feel like the rich man's son driving round in a sports car subsidized by the father. Like I could build fantastic software, but have no clue what's going on under the hood. As an example of my dilemma take the task of building a simple web browser. In pure C++, I wouldn't even know where to start, yet with the Qt library it can be done within a few lines on code. I am not complaining about this. I am just wondering how to fill the knowledge void between the basic structure of the language and the high level interface that the Qt framework provides?

  • Introducing Kiddo: A Ruby DSL for building simple WPF and Silverlight applications

    - by fdumlao
Read the original article here... As a long time Ruby lover and deep rooted .NET supporter, I was probably more psyched than anyone I knew when IronRuby 1.0 was finally released. I immediately grabbed and started building some apps with it to see where the boundaries were going to lie between IronRuby and ruby.exe, and so far I've been pleasantly surprised by how many things just work as I'd expect. I then started to try out some of my favorite libs that I was sure would not work with IronRuby, and I wasn't surprised at all when _why's amazing Shoes library didn't work. Being somewhat familiar with Shoes (it's a great DSL for building simple UIs in Ruby) I felt it wouldn't be that difficult to port it over and as it turned out, someone else had already started the work. As cool as this was, I was never quite satisfied with good 'ol shoes. While it was quite complete, it lacked simple extensibility points, and although easy, it wasn't quite "kid friendly". At the same time on the .NET side of the fence, IronRuby could easily compile XAML to create WPF and Silverlight UIs, but trying to do it declaratively in plain Ruby was no fun at all. And so, the Shoes-inspired, WPF/Silverlight GUI DSL was born. (and it lives here: http://bitbucket.org/fdumlao/kiddo/src) Introducing Kiddo Tell you what. Let's start with a quick code example first. We'll build a useful app that we can use to quickly reverse strings whenever we need it. Read the complete article here...

  • What Would Google Do?

    - by David Dorf
Last year I read Jeff Jarvis' book What Would Google Do? and found it very interesting. Jeff is a long-time journalist that's been studying technology, and more specifically the internet. He used his skills to reverse-engineer Google into a list of "Google rules," then goes on to describe a futuristic world driven by these rules. Its an interesting look at crowd-sourcing, openness, and collaboration across many industries, including retail (Google Shops). This year Jeff Jarvis will be a keynote speaker at CrossTalk, Oracle's user conference dedicated to the retail industry. This year's theme is... Retail Redefined: Redesign. Reinvigorate. Reimagine. I think that's pretty appropriate given the massive changes the industry has undergone during the last three years. The thing I really like about this conference is that we try to let the retailers do most of the talking. I'm very interested in hearing about the innovative projects they've got brewing, and where they think our industry is heading. I'll be speaking, but I'm not sure about what so let me know of any interesting topics.

  • The Social Business Thought Leaders - John Hagel

    - by kellsey.ruppel
While many European economies are on the brink of a recession between increasing taxation and mounting loss of jobs and bankruptcy filing rates, there's an understandable risk of losing sight of the deeper forces at play. Yet instead of surrendering to uncertainty and trying to survive in the short term, many organizations are feeling the urge to be better prepared to thrive in these complex times by developing a more articulated long term understanding of both the opportunities / challenges ahead. For example: What long-term economic, technological and societal changes are rolling out? Which foundational dynamics will affect our companies' performance, productivity, competition, and innovative potential in the upcoming decades? How will digital infrastructure change our business landscape? What kind of capabilities will be key to compete in a market shaped by growing turbulence, unpredictability and volatility? Breaking out from a strictly cyclical thinking, studies such as the Shift Index by John Hagel, Co-Chairman of the Center for the Edge at Deloitte & Touche (See Measuring the forces of long-term change - The 2009 Shift Index), depict a worrying performance challenge that affected every industry in the entire US economy over the last 45 years. Amidst a more than doubled competitive intensity of the market, and even with an improved labor productivity, the actual performance of US firms has consistently fallen to 25% of what it was in 1965. Most of this reported value is shifting from institutions and organizations to individuals, whether they are customers or young creative talent. To thrive in the digital economy and reverse declining performance trends, companies will have to fundamentally rethink their management approach by moving from knowledge stocks to knowledge flows, from scalable efficiency to scalable learning, from push organizations to pull organizations. Based on the outcomes of the Shift Index and on the book The Power of Pull, the first episode of the Social Business Thought-Leaders features John Hagel to provide strategic insights on how companies will succeed in the 21st century.
