• DNS problems on CentOS fresh install

  I'm having some DNS issues on a new box I'm installing with CentOS 6.2. I am able to look up names using nslookup, dig, or host. I am able to ping machines by name or by IP address. However, when I try other tools, such as ssh, wget, or yum, they are unable to resolve names. Per NcA's suggestion, I tried changing /etc/resolv.conf to point to 8.8.8.8. Oddly enough, this does make it work. Obviously, my DSL modem is responding to DNS requests in some way that some parts of Linux's resolution system don't like. Looking at the tcpdump, I am unable to see what the difference is. Certainly, both servers are sending the same addresses. Here's the output from tcpdump -nn -X with the server set to the DNS server on the DSL modem. If anyone has ideas, I'd be happy to hear them. For now, though, I can either refer to an outside DNS server or set up my own server on the new box. It's a workaround that seems like it should be unnecessary, but will allow me to proceed.

  I have a page that requires a scrollbar - http://www.aus-media.com/dev/site_BYJ/schedule-pricing/pricing.html You will notice (unless you are running at a high resolution with a big screen) that there is an outer scrollbar for the main page as well as an inner scrollbar for the content. When you click on one of the sub items e.g. payments you will notice that the outer page scrolls down as well as the inner scrollbar. Does anybody know of a way to only scroll the inner scrollbar, so only it jumps to the id? Thanks guys Nik

• Facebook Connect via Javascript doesn't close and doesn't pass session id

However after authentication, the popup window just stays open and the main window is not directed anywhere. In fact, it is the popup window that goes to "/register/step2" How can I get the login window to close as expected, and to pass the facebook session id to /register/step2? Thanks!

• How to return an enum ID instead of the enum text in WebAPI

  I am using the WebAPI with .NET 4.5. I have a enum called DareStatus which is a list of statuses and their corresponding integer ID's. To minimize bandwidth traffic I want to send the int values of the enums, not the full text as it is currently doing. (I have control over the client so I can map it on the clientside).   I'm wondering how Instapaper (bookmarklet that saves text) might generate URLs for their bookmarklet. Mine has a script src of something similar to www.instapaper.com/j/AnJHrfoDTRia The quality of these URLs is that they need to never collide, and not be really guessable (so other people can't save to your account). I know a simple approach might be to MD5 their email address (presumed to have been checked on signup for uniqueness), but then I'd end up with a super long string. This isn't a huge issue, but I'm wondering what techniques there are for shorter GUIDs that won't collide too often (this is obviously the tradeoff, but 12 characters above is pretty short in my opinion)

  I have an asp.net C# web forms application in .net framework 4 In my pages, when I view html source it changes control IDs to something like ctl00_CPHPageContents_txtUserID actually it is txtUserID This application was first in Framework 3.5 and IDs were generated like CPHPageContents_txtUserID So, in short, in Framework 3.5 Id was CPHPageContents_txtUserID and now in Framework 4 ID is ctl00_CPHPageContents_txtUserID which is breaking our automation tests. Can I remove this ctl00 added by Framework 4?

  I've got several div id's, each containing a different client. I want to be able to click the delete button and using ajax and jquery delete the specific div from the database. I'm getting success in AJAX but it's not deleting anything from the DB.   I just set up LogRotate on my RHEL6 server so that it rotates my custom Apache log files. However, it doesn't do anything when i try manually running it. I expect it to rotate the log files "access.log" and "err.log". They have been there for a few days and need to be rotated. • Short unique id in php

  I want to create a unique id but uniqid() is giving something like '492607b0ee414'. What i would like is something similar to what tinyurl gives: '64k8ra'. The shorter, the better. The only requirements are that it should not have an obvious order and that it should look prettier than a seemingly random sequence of numbers. Letters are preferred over numbers and ideally it would not be mixed case. As the number of entries will not be that many (up to 10000 or so) the risk of collision isn't a huge factor. Any suggestions appreciated.

• asp.net InsertCommand to return latest insert ID

  Dear all, I'm unable to retrieve the latest inserted id from my SQL Server 2000 db using a typed dataset in asp.NET I have created a tableadapter and I ticked the "Refresh datatable" and "Generate Insert, Update and Delete statements". This auto-generates the Fill and GetData methods, and the Insert, Update, Select and Delete statements. I have tried every possible solution in this thread http://forums.asp.net/t/990365.aspx but I'm still unsuccesfull, it always returns 1(=number of affected rows). I do not want to create a seperate insert method as the auto-generated insertCommand perfectly suits my needs. As suggested in the thread above, I have tried to update the InsertCommand SQL syntax to add SELECT SCOPY_IDENTITY() or something similar, I have tried to add a parameter of type ReturnValue, but all I get is the number of affected rows. Does anyone has a different take on this? Thanks in advance! Stijn
