• QoS / PBR Routing Questions

  I have a 50Mbs Satellite link and a 10Mbs Microwave link supplying a very remote location. Behind these links, I have a 6,400 seat network - with about 3,000 signed in at any one time. My goal is to send all of the Voip traffic (Google Chat, Magic Jack, Skype, Speakeasy, Vonage, Vonage PC, Yahoo) through the microwave link which has 100ms latency. The rest of the traffic can utilize any remaining bandwidth of the microwave link with excess being diverted to the higher latency (600ms) satellite connection. The problem I've had so far is that most automatic routing configurations weigh the bandwidth heavily for preference - and I'm only wanting latency considered. Additionally, I don't know if this can even be handled with the routing hardware I have at my disposal (Cisco 3640, 3745, & 3845). Any recommendations (or really good starting points) would be greatly appreciated.

• How do I get a hold of the Reply-To header and remunge it in postfix

  I have a legacy application that emails via php. 5% of the emails aren't going through. The solution is to route all email through a fancy verified mail server like Amazon's SES. I am having some trouble implementing this functionality. It seems this guy had a similar problem. My question is where in postfix can I set a filter that will take as input the the message headers, so that I can manually set the From field and the Reply-To field to [email protected] and [email protected], respectively. Where whatever_php_wants is dictated by the php program and the users registration email. I know where to set the noreply portion, but I don't know the exact place in postfix's configuration files where I can intercept complete emails and pass them to a script. • front end to linux std mailbox for development purposes

  I am actually a software developer, do have a fair amount of linux experience as a user though since 1997. I am normally on stackoverflow.com, please excuse me if this question isn't appropriate here. I am working on a web project. We send out emails. I work locally on a linux box. When coding I use my local mailboxes to check what's been sent. Emails sent out to valid email addresses are not arriving at my official mailbox; they might be stopped by the provider's mail servers (gmail, yahoo). Now, we are sending out HTML mails too. I need to check how they look like. Is there a GUI frontend to the standard linux BSD mailbox? Or should I install some IMAP/POP server for this? Will such server get the emails sent to username@localhost ? Thanks for any suggestion

• Postfix Stagger/Rate Limit Outbound Mail

  We have a server that sends our weekly newsletter to subscribers, To prevent people like Hotmail or Yahoo from blocking us due to sending too many simultaneous emails to them, Is there a way we can stagger email, or rate-limit outbound emails from postfix? Keep in mind, I dont want the mailserver to stop queueing mail or accepting new messages, Simply defer delivery if there are more then 3-4 messages per destination domain/ipaddress, or something similar. Note: I dont want a Sender Throttle, as described in a similar question, here. I'm looking more for a recipient throttle but haven't had any luck finding out how to do so with PolicyD or Anvil services, and was wondering if anyone else has accomplished such a task.

• What's the largest message size modern email systems generally support?

  I know that Yahoo and Google mail support 25MB email attachments. I have an idea from somewhere that 10MB email messages are generally supported by modern email systems. So if I'm sending an email between two arbitrary users on the internet, what's the safe upper bound on message size? 1MB? 10MB? 25MB? I know that one answer is 'don't send big emails, use some sort of drop box'. I'm looking for a guideline if you are limited to only using regular smtp email.

  I want to configure a proxy which can rotate the IP's on session basis. Let me explain what I have done so far and what is exact requirement. I installed 3 proxy configured it to listen on 10 Public interfaces which is working fine. But my requirement is if any user access the internet, IP which will go out should be changed for every new session. Lets say my prxy IP's are from 10.20.30.5-14. When an user opens google.com it will hit google webserver with 10.20.30.5 IP and now if same user opens up yahoo.com then, it should it with 10.20.30.6 or any ip b/w 6 to 14. Is this possible?

• Rogue program disabled access to Firefox's "Get add-ons" and "Extensions". How can I get them back?

  After installing a program called "FreeFileViewer", the program disabled access to Firefox's "Get add-ons" and "Extensions" options. To make matters worse, it installed the Yahoo! toolbar that I now can't remove (because it disabled Firefox's options to do so). Please help. Any advice you can give me to restore these Firefox options would be greatly appreciated! BTW, I am running Firefox 15.0.1 on a Windows 7 machine. Thanks, in advance, for your help! -- Eric

• What could prevent one Amazon EC2 instance from pinging another instance's Private IP?

  I have multiple Amazon EC2 instances which need to communicate using private IPs. However, so far I've been unable to ping one instance's private IP from another instance. I can ping external addresses, such as their Elastic IPs and other sites (yahoo, google, etc), so it seems there's nothing wrong with the instances' network configuration. Also, they are all in the same zone, so that shouldn't be an issue. Does anyone have any idea what I could be doing wrong? Could this related to the Security Group settings?

• How to crash a program

  I have a program called BlueCoat Proxy installed on my school issued laptop that basically blocks every second website on the Internet, including stack exchange, YouTube and yahoo answers. I do not have administrator rights, nor can I delete anything in program files, I tried every possible method of obtaining admin rights. It is not accessible in task manager (it doesn't even appear there). I tried to close it with Windows command prompt through commands like 'taskkill' but it returns 'Access is Denied' (I'm only denied access with that program). Does anyone know a method of crashing a program with a batch file or VB program? I was thinking something like the ping command, though for a program. Maybe automating 1000 meaningless requests to the program? Your input on the subject matter is appreciated, however telling me that this is wrong or illegal is not.

As a non admin user, I run Explorer as admin and still can't see the temp internet files for the non admin user. Only if I login as a user that is admin can I see the files. • Why would image thumbnails not be showing in all search engines in all browsers?

  For over a week now, when I search for a word at Google, it correctly gives me some preview image thumbnails: But when I click on "images", it doesn't show me any thumbnails: The same thing happens at Bing.com, when I search Bing itself it gives me some thumbnails on the general search result page: But when I click on "images", it doesn't show me any thumbnails: The same thing happens at Yahoo: If I click on one of the broken thumbnails, it shows me the picture fine: Thumbnails at youtube also work fine: It seems each search engine is hanging on different URLs as shown above: t1.gstatic.com ts3.mm.bing.net thm-a02.yimg.com so it doesn't seem to be the problem of one specific URL not sending thumbnails, it is just a problem with search engine image thumbnails in general. Also, this happens in every browser I try: Explorer, Firefox, Chrome. What could be the problem? Is it my computer, some setting somewhere, my router, my Internet provider (T-Online, Germany)? Has anyone ever had this problem and solved it?

• Is it me or is developing web based data entry GUIs a big pain?

  Maybe it's me or maybe it isn't. I don't have a huge amount of experience of developing web based data entry software but do have some. I used to do it quite a bit years ago. Used to use Oracle Forms, Visual Studio, various 4th generation languages, and performing the user interface layout used to be a snap. Now doing the user interface for developing web applications seems to be a huge pain in the rear. Just trying to get text entry fields and widgets to go where they are supposed to go on the screen is a total pain. You have to know Javascript, CSS, JQuery, HTML, etc. There must be an easier way to develop data entry forms that produce the needed underlying code for a web page. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place. There must be some WYSIWYG GUI development tools for the web for developing data entry forms out there. Anybody know of any?

• Recommendation for email setup for programatically sending lots of emails

  To clarify I have an app that notifies users via email when certain actions take place (I am not spamming as the user has opted in to the notifications and can change that option at any time). Because of number of emails that needs to be sent, Gmail, Yahoo, etc will not work. Unless I am mistaken services like MailChimp, Lyris, etc will also not fit this need since every email is sent one at a time and is very specific to the user and action that took place. What I really want is something that would allow me to be able to call some mail function, give it a recipient, from, message and subject, and not have it be blocked by the email service. This can be a free or paid service. I have server access so I can install something if necessary as well but I don't know much about email services and fear if I do it myself, I'll get blocked by some other player like my VPS host or ISP or something.

  My Windows 7 laptop can connect to our Wi-Fi signal, I can sign in on Yahoo! Messenger, but I can't go to any site. I can access the Net on other devices.   I used domaintools.com to do a traceroute on a bunch of sites, and noticed that every single one leads to this "nameintelligence.com" site that I have never heard of. Absolutely every site, including this one, google, my own site, yahoo, microsoft.com, stackoverflow, EVERYTHING, has nameintelligence.com in the first position. What is that site, and what do they do? They're a PR 4 apparently, yet I have never heard of them. I think this would be the right place to ask, I am sorry if I am wrong. But basically, what happens is on my MacBook (latest model) whenever I 'flip' a Dashboard Widget I hear a little noise for the duration of the flip: like a tiny continuous squeak noise. It's quite strange. However, it only ever happens when the MagSafe cable is plugged in. WHY?! :'( The noise appears to me emitted from the MagSafe area itself, but, there's not any other CoreAnimation or Quartzey bits that cause this to happen, it only happens with Dashboard widgets... The noise is very quiet and you can only hear it in a silent room. Edit: Running the latest Snow Leopard.

• webserver running as nobody cannot resolve domain names

  if i try to run the following: <?php echo file_get_contents("http://www.yahoo.com/index.html"); ?> through the web server I get a an "php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo" error. If I run the same file from the shell with: php test.php then I get the expected file output. This indicates to me that the 'nobody' user, which the webserver runs as, is not able to resolve the domain name, but the shell user can. Any ideas on how to fix this? Further info: CentOS 6, cPanel install, Apache, PHP running as dso. BTW, I've tried disabling the firewall to no effect.

• Google search results are downloaded as a file in Google Chrome

  I'm behind a proxy at work, and Google Chrome insists on downloading Google search results pages instead of displaying them. Whether I try to search from the address bar, from google.com, or from a third-party site that has a Google search form, what ends up happening is that the search results page ends up as a downloaded file called "search" in my downloads directory. I haven't seen this happen with any other search pages. Yahoo! Search, for example, works fine. Has anyone run into this before and/or has any ideas on how to fix it or what might be causing it? I'd try the Chrome support pages, but they're blocked by the proxy...

• Google Chrome appears to hijack default browser

  I read all the advice on how to make Firefox or IE for windows 7 the default browser. I know how to do this but the problem is whenever a program tries to open a page through the default browser it will default to Google Chrome and when I uninstalled Google Chrome then programs like Yahoo Messanger (getting a profile) would fail looking for chrome. I don't think Google would do this sort of thing "HiJack a Default Browser" I'm convinced it must be a trogen or virus or a registery hack. If so any ideas how I would go about fixing this without purchasing every virus/trogen program until it WAS removed This method could be an expensive fix. Thank you Russell Feldman

• CheckPoint VPN-1 SecureClient inability to navigate behind a Linksys WAG300N

  I have a Linksys WAG300N, I'm accessing my LAN with Wifi and everything works fine on my Windows 7 Enterprise laptop. When I try to connect to my company's VPN the connection succeeds, but I cannot access any internet site either within my work network or public site like Yahoo or Google. In my Linksys control panel I already verified all types of VPNs are enable to passthrough. Normal IPSec and Windows VPN worked in the past without any problems. CheckPoint seems to have a solution, but I do not have the ability to change the IP in my client and of course using another NAT device in between is not a solution for me. • why do i get an SPF Softfail?

  I installed SPF on my LAMP server with postfix. But for some reason, I get this error Received-SPF: softfail (mta1070.mail.re4.yahoo.com: domain of transitioning [email protected] does not designate 1.1.1.1 as permitted sender) I have two questions: 1) how do I trouble shoot this error 2) I've been looking through my configuration files in an attempt to change [email protected] to [email protected] because anotherurl.com has the correct SPF TXT records. Where do i go to change this? I tried editing myhostname under /etc/postfix/main.cf, but it didn't do anything.
