And now I need to decode the string that was encoded before and want to print it. • How can I read the properties of an object that I assign to the Session in ASP.NET MVC?

  Hey all, I'm trying my hand at creating a session which stores member information which the application can use to reveal certain navigation and allow access to certain pages and member role specific functionality. I've been able to assign my MemberLoggedIn object to the session in this way: //code excerpt start... MemberLoggedIn loggedIn = new MemberLoggedIn(); if (computedHash == member.Hash) { loggedIn.ID = member.ID; loggedIn.Username = member.Username; loggedIn.Email = member.Email; loggedIn.Superuser = member.Superuser; loggedIn.Active = member.Active; Session["loggedIn"] = loggedIn; } else if (ModelState.IsValid) { ModelState.AddModelError("Password", "Incorrect Username or Password."); } return View(); That works great. I then can send the properties of Session["loggedIn"] to the View in this way: [ChildActionOnly] public ActionResult Login() { if (Session["loggedIn"] != null) ViewData.Model = Session["loggedIn"]; else ViewData.Model = null; return PartialView(); } In the Partial View I can reference the session data by using Model.Username or Model.Superuser. However, it doesn't seem to work that way in the controller or in a custom Action Filter. Is there a way to get the equivalent of Session["loggedIn"].Username?

• cgi.FieldStorage always empty - never returns POSTed form Data

  This problem is probably embarrassingly simple. I'm trying to give python a spin. I thought a good way to start doing that would be to create a simple cgi script to process some form data and do some magic. My python script is executed properly by apache using mod_python, and will print out whatever I want it to print out. My only problem is that cgi.FieldStorage() is always empty. I've tried using both POST and GET. Each trial I fill out both form fields. <form action="pythonScript.py" method="POST" name="ARGH"> <input name="TaskName" type="text" /> <input name="TaskNumber" type="text" /> <input type="submit" /> </form> If I change the form to point to a perl script it reports the form data properly.   Hi, I am using PHP 5.2 on SUN OS server. Having problems with the following piece of code that for a drop down: echo '<form action="" method="get">'; echo '<p>Information:<br />'; echo '<select name="acctno" style="width: 100px;">'; foreach ($this->account_names as $acctno => $acctname) { echo '<option value="'.$acctno.'">'.$acctname.'</option>'; } echo '</select> <input type="submit" value="view" />'; echo '</form>'; Worked perfectly fine on Firefox and Chrome; however there is a problem with Internet Explorer. In IE the dropdown width is limited to the size i.e 100px. So only the first 15-16 characters of the account name are displayed all the time. However in chrome or firefox, even if only 15-16 characters are displayed initially, when the drop down arrow is clicked upon, it show the entire name (however long it may be). This does not happen with IE. So if the account name is, lets say, "1223456789abcdefghijkl" then: For IE: shows only "123456789" all the time Ffor chrome or firefox: shows "123456789" and when it is dropped down it show the full name as "123456789abcdefghijkl". • Javascript onunload form submit isn't submitting data

  I currently have form that checks if a user has unsubmitted changes when they leave the page with a function called through the onunload event. Here's the function: function saveOnExit() { var answer = confirm("You are about to leave the page. All unsaved work will be lost. Would you like to save now?"); if (answer) { document.main_form.submit(); } } And here's the form: <body onunload="saveOnExit()"> <form name="main_form" id="main_form" method="post" action="submit.php" onsubmit="saveScroll()"> <textarea name="comments"></textarea> <input type="submit" name="submit2" value="Submit!"/> </form> I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here. The data gets submitted and saved in my database if I just press the submit button for the form. However, trying to submit the form through the onunload event doesn't result in anything being stored, from what I can tell. I've tried adding onclick alerts to the submitt button and onsubmit alerts to the form elements and I can verify that the submit button is being triggered and that the form does get submitted. However, nothing gets passed stored in the database. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

  Hi Guys. I have a UIViewController named equationVC who's user interface is being programmatically created from another NSObject class called equationCon. Upon loading equationVC, a method called chooseInterface is called from the equationCon class. I have a global variable (globalVar) that points to a user defined string. chooseInterface finds a method in the equationCon class that matches the string globalVar points to. In this case, let's say that globalVar points to a string that is called "methodThatMatches." In methodThatMatches, another view controller needs to show the results of what methodThatMatches did. methodThatMatches creates a new equationVC that calls upon methodThatMatches2. As a test, each method changes the color of the background. When the application starts up, I get a purple background, but as soon as I hit backwards I get another purple screen, which should be yellow. I do not think that I am release the view properly.   What is a simple way to resolve the path to a JSP file that is not located in the root JSP directory of a web application using SpringMVCs viewResolvers? For example, suppose we have the following web application structure: web-app |-WEB-INF |-jsp |-secure |-admin.jsp |-admin2.jsp index.jsp login.jsp I would like to use some out-of-the-box components to resolve the JSP files within the jsp root folder and the secure subdirectory. I would prefer to keep this structure because I'm also trying to make use of Spring Security and having all secure pages in a subdirectory is a nice way to do this. There's probably a simple way to acheive this but I'm new to Spring and the Spring MVC framework so any pointers would be appreciated.

• Appropriate wx.Sizer(s) for the job?

  I have a space in which I would like certain elements (represented here by A, B, D, and G) to each be in its own "corner" of the design. The corners ought to line up as if each of the four elements was repelling the other; a rectangle. This is to be contained within an unresizable panel. I will have several similar panels and want to keep the location of the elements as identical as possible. (I needed something a little more complex than a wx.Wizard, but with the same general idea.) B represents a numeric progress meter (e.g. "1 of 7") in a small font. C represents a large block of text. D, E, F, and G are buttons. The G button is separated from others for functionality. I have attempted nested wx.BoxSizers (horizontal boxes inside of one vertical box) without luck. My first problem with wx.BoxSizer is that the .SetMinSize on my last row has not been honored. The second problem is that I have no idea how to make the G button "take up space" without growing comically large, or how I can jam it up against the right edge and bottom edge. I have tried to use a wx.GridBagSizer, but ran into entirely different issues. After plowing through the various online tutorials and wxPython in Action, I'm a little frustrated. The relevant forums appear to see activity once every two weeks. "Playing around with it" has gotten me nowhere; I feel as if I am trying to smooth out a hump in ill-laid carpet.

• UITableView not responding to row selection until a different row is selected

  This is driving me nuts. I have searched on everything I can think of to find a solution but haven't found one yet. I've got a UITableView that uses custom cells. The accessory is the detail disclosure button. I would like the cell to respond to either row selection or the disclosure button being tapped. It responds to the disclosure button just as you would expect. But selecting the row is a different story. When I select the row, it highlights, but nothing happens until I tap a different row. Then the previously selected row does what it was supposed to do, which is to create and push a new view controller for that row. If I tap a single row five times and then tap a different row, it then creates and pushes five view controllers for that first row. It does this both in the simulator and on the device. What's really maddening is that I have another tableview in the same application that responds correctly to row selection or tapping the detail disclosure button. I can't find anything I've done differently between the two. Has anyone seen this before?

Any idea how to do this with QUnit? Edit: I read the QUnit examples, but they seem to be dealing with a simple scenario with no AJAX interaction. And although there are ASP.NET MVC examples, but I think they are really testing the output of the server to an AJAX call, i.e., it's still testing the server response, not the AJAX response. What I want is how to test the client side response.

• How can I print a web page on a server?

  Suppose I develop a web page using the cool Google visualization API, and it does everything the user wants. They can the parameters, look at the graphs, and print the page to get a reasonable-looking report. All good. Now suppose I want to do the same thing server-side. For example, say we need a set of report generated at a specific time of day, printed to a PDF and emailed to a manager. It's not a user-initiated action, so we don't have a user's browser or their printer. We have a URL that would render the report if we had a browser, and that's it. Is there a good way to do this server-side? Is this just foolish? Has anyone done anything like that before? Do any of the major browsers have APIs that might provide such functionality? Keep in mind too that it's not just static HTML; probably javascript will be running first to shift the DOM around. I know we could implement a whole different reporting engine on the server side to do this, but that will (a) generate reports that look a bit different, and (b) require me to build/maintain two sets of functionality. Instead, I'd be happy if I could just render the page / pages I want in an invisible server-side browser and print it to a PDF (let's mostly ignore that step - I know any number of PDF printer drivers that could do this). I don't really want to do it ugly either - i.e. by starting a browser process and then sending keystrokes directly to the window either - that's just bound to fall apart with a slight nudge. The only related question I found had an answer like that. Any advice appreciated!

  In my application I needed something like a particle system so I did the following: While the application initializes I load a UIImage laserImage = [UIImage imageNamed:@"laser.png"]; UIImage *laserImage is declared in the Interface of my Controller. Now every time I need a new particle this code makes one: // add new Laserimage UIImageView *newLaser = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:laserImage]; [newLaser setTag:[model.lasers count]-9]; [newLaser setBounds:CGRectMake(0, 0, 17, 1)]; [newLaser setOpaque:YES]; [self.view addSubview:newLaser]; [newLaser release]; Please notice that the images are only 17px * 1px small and model.lasers is a internal array to do all the calculating seperated from graphical output. So in my main drawing loop I set all the UIImageView's positions to the calculated positions in my model.lasers array: for (int i = 0; i < [model.lasers count]; i++) { [[self.view viewWithTag:i+10] setCenter:[[model.lasers objectAtIndex:i] pos]]; } I incremented the tags by 10 because the default is 0 and I don't want to move all the views with the default tag. So the animation looks fine with about 10 - 20 images but really gets slow when working with about 60 images. So my question is: Is there any way to optimize this without starting over in OpenGl ES? • Does posting data with a textarea automatically add slashes to (escape) the text?

  Ok, so I'm having a problem with a simple textarea. I'm using a kind of hidden page to easily encode some data using JSON. However, all of my text input is automatically being escaped somewhere and I don't know where. All of my $_POST variables are automatically run through the htmlentities() function when the script starts up, as seen below: $ani->i->post = $this->clean($_POST, true); function clean($values, $unset = false) { if (is_array($values)) { foreach ($values as $key => $value) { $newkey = strtolower($key); $return[$newkey] = $this->clean($value); unset($values[$key]); } return $return; } return htmlentities($values); } I keep getting \' for all of my single quotes when I put the value back into the textarea. I can't find anywhere where it would be adding slashes and I don't remember it being a feature that they were automatically added when you submit from a textarea, and if that was so, why would they not be returning back to a single quote when put back into the textarea? Do I really need to run variables through stripslashes() to get them back to their original form? • Iterating Over Params Hash

  I'm having an extremely frustrating time getting some images to upload. They are obviously being uploaded as rack/multipart but the way that I'm iterating over my params hash must be causing the problem. I could REALLY use some help, so I can stop pulling out my hair. • Interface Builder caching bad data (voodoo)

  Sometimes IB will hold onto old or bad references, and I cannot seem to remove or edit them. EDIT I have made this a wiki question with the intention of gathering more data on the phenomenon. Answers involving situations where other coders have encountered this are welcome. This happened to me again last night with a table controller. When I created a spike project to try and reproduce the error, the system worked the way I anticipated. Then back in the actual project the bad behavior continued, even if I remove the xib file and all controllers involved. Creating a whole new project with none of the original (problematic) xib and nib files worked correctly. This question is not about the specifics of this incident but about this type of incident in IB. Does anyone know more about this type of bad IB behaviour, and possibly a more stylish way to to eliminate it than nuking the project? Note, removing the offending IB files and recreating them in the same project has not solved this for me in the past, only whole new projects. Answers regarding examples of when/how this glitch has been observed/created are welcome as well.

• Why do System.IO.Log SequenceNumbers have variable length?

  I'm trying to use the System.IO.Log features to build a recoverable transaction system. I understand it to be implemented on top of the Common Log File System. The usual ARIES approach to write-ahead logging involves persisting log record sequence numbers in places other than the log (for example, in the header of the database page modified by the logged action). Interestingly, the documentation for CLFS says that such sequence numbers are always 64-bit integers. Confusingly, however, the .Net wrapper around those SequenceNumbers can be constructed from a byte[] but not from a UInt64. It's value can also be read as a byte[], but not as a UInt64. Inspecting the implementation of SequenceNumber.GetBytes() reveals that it can in fact return arrays of either 8 or 16 bytes. This raises a few questions: Why do the .Net sequence numbers differ in size from the CLFS sequence numbers? Why are the .Net sequence numbers variable in length? Why would you need 128 bits to represent such a sequence number? It seems like you would truncate the log well before using up a 64-bit address space (16 exbibytes, or around 10^19 bytes, more if you address longer words)? If log sequence numbers are going to be represented as 128 bit integers, why not provide a way to serialize/deserialize them as pairs of UInt64s instead of rather-pointlessly incurring heap allocations for short-lived new byte[]s every time you need to write/read one? Alternatively, why bother making SequenceNumber a value type at all? It seems an odd tradeoff to double the storage overhead of log sequence numbers just so you can have an untruncated log longer than a million terabytes, so I feel like I'm missing something here, or maybe several things. I'd much appreciate it if someone in the know could set me straight.

• Inactive area after device rotation

  Hi all, I don't understand what's wrong in my very simple application with device rotation : I built my view with interface builder. (See screen capture here) I specified <key>UIInterfaceOrientation</key><string>UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight</string> in my info.plist file. I had a (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation {return YES;} in my root view controller. The area on the left (shown in red on the capture), around 20 pixel width, keeps inactive (nothing append if I hit a button in this area). In fact the full screen is active only in portrait mode, in landscape right mode there is this 20 pixels width inactive area, in landscape left mode this inactive area is on the right, in portrait upside down mode this area is on the bottom. I read lots of posts and documentation about UIView rotation, but I did not find anything to solve this problem (I tried to play with view.frame and view.bounds without any success).
