• iPhone universal app. MoviePlayer.framwork problem.

  I have application based on 3.0 iPhone OS SDK One of tasks is playing video (I use MPMoviePlayerController for this task) Now I try to make universal app working on both 3.0 and 3.2 OS I did all steps described in apple documentation: Upgrade Current Target for iPad; make run-time checking for symbols using [[UIDevice currentDevice] respondsToSelector:@selector(userInterfaceIdiom)] function.   I am looking to migrate my selenium RC tests to using PHPUnit 3.4.12 from PHPUnit 3.3.2 The selenium test will fail with an exception of the following when I use assertTextPresent() PHPUnit_Framework_Exception: Response from Selenium RC server for getLocation(). ERROR Server Exception: sessionId should not be null; has this session been started yet?. I have tried the same test with PHPUnit 3.3.2 which did not produce this problem - the test would happily end without the getLocation(). Any ideas? thanks

• ASP.NET Authentication Cookie timout and IIS 7 setting

  Hello, I have an ASP.NET website for which i've set the authetication timeout to 60 days so that my users don't have to log in each time they come back if they checked the "remember me" option. Basic ASP.NET login mechanism... It's working fine on my developpement server as well as on the visual studio built-in web server. I can close the browser, wait around 30-40 minutes and browse back to the site and be automatically logged in. However, I've not moved the site to a hosting provider and it seems that whatever I do to my Web.config file, the cookie expires after around 30 minutes (hard to tell the exact amount of time). I have asked the provider's help support and they basically told me: "Web.config file is to configure your website. Please do not change it if you don't know what you are doing" Frustrating answer indeed... To be sure, I checked everywhere on the net for exceptions, fine prints, in the basic asp.net authentication but found none. I have access to IIS remote management for my site (IIS 7) but don't really know where to look. Can there be something in the IIS setting that is overriding my web.config authentication setting? What should I do... Thanks for you help!

• Jboss EAP 5 and Tomcat 6 on the same Win env. (Jboss gets Toncat`s home page when`s up)

  Hi guys, I`m newbie to Java technologies, just trying to catch up some idea of it. I was trying to build a java environment to play with Eclipse, Mysql, Tomcat and Jboss and integrate these together. I did: 1. Installed jdk1.6.0_20 (including JAVA_HOME and path variables; I work on Win Vista), mysql 5 and eclipse-jee-galileo (the latest one, 3.6 I believe) and all went good - java programs are compiled and run getting a DB connection. 2. Installed Jboss enterprise-installer-5.0.1.jar with localhost:8080 and this also went good - run.bat started it and I could log in as admin thru its home page. I integrated it with eclipse and could start and stop it from there too. 3. I got apache-tomcat-6.0.26-windows-x86 and this also runs and stops from command line and from eclipse. But this one uses localhost:8080 without asking. Now the problem is when I start jboss I get Tomcat home page and I can`t fix it. Is it probably because both now use localhost:8080? BTW, does Jboss EAP 5 contain Tomcat inside and I shouldn't add that Tomcat separately? Thanks for you help in advance, Eddie

• Cannot connect Linux XAMPP PHP to MS SQL database.

  I've searched many sites without success. I'm using XAMPP 1.7.3a on Ubuntu 9.1. I have used the methods found at http://www.webcheatsheet.com/PHP/connect_mssql_database.php, they all fail. I am able to "connect" with a linked database through MS Access, however, that is not an acceptable solution as not all users will have Access. The first method (at webcheatsheet) uses mssql_connect, et.al. but I get this error from the mssql_connect() call: Warning: mssql_connect() [function.mssql-connect]: Unable to connect to server: [my server] in [my code] [my server] is the server address, I have used both the host name and the IP address. [my code] is a reference to the file and line number in my .php file. Is there a log file somewhere that would have more information about the failure, both on my machine and the MS SQL server? We do not have a bona-fide DBA, so I will need specific information to pass on if the issue seems to be on the server side. All assistance is appreciated, including RTFM when the location of the M is provided! Thanks

• Problems running Ruby on Rails apps on shared hosted server

  I have problems installing any Ruby On Rails app on my shared hosted server. Mongrel shows html as plain text for all pages. The problem occurs for any app, even if I create a test empty app and add a scaffolded view without changing anything. It appears that the Mongrel crashes when trying to put cookies to the response header.   I am running the 2.0 RTM of NServiceBus and am getting a NullReferenceException when my MessageModule binds the CurrentSessionContext to my NHibernate sessionfactory. Should this call to configure NServiceBus occur later in the lifecycle than Application_Start? • Full text index requires dropping and recreating - why?

  Hi all, So I've got a web app running on .net 3.5 connected to a SQL 2005 box. We do scheduled releases every 2 weeks. About 14 tables out of 250 are full text indexed. After not every release, but a few too many, the indexes crap out. They seem to have data in there, but when we try to search them from the front end or SQL enterprise we get timeouts/hangs. We have a script that disables the indexes, drops them, deletes the catalog and then re creates the indexes. This fixes the problem 99 times out of 100. and the one other time, we run the script again and it all works We have tried just rebuilding the fulltext index but that doesn't fix the issue. My question is why do we have to do this ? what can we do to sort the index out? • Headless, scriptable Firefox/Webkit on linux?

  I'm looking to automate some web interactions, namely periodic download of files from a secure website. This basically involves entering my username/password and navigating to the appropriate URL. I tried simple scripting in Python, followed by more sophisticated scripting, only to discover this particular website is using some obnoxious javascript and flash based mechanism for login, rendering my methods useless. I then tried HTMLUnit, but that doesn't seem to want to work either. I suspect use of Flash is the issue. I don't really want to think about it any more, so I'm leaning towards scripting an actual browser to log in and grab the file I need. Requirements are: Run on linux server (ie. no X running). If I really need to have X I can make that happen, but I won't be happy. Be reliable. I want to start this thing and never think about it again. Be scriptable. Nothing too sophisticated, but I should be able to tell the browser the various steps to take and pages to visit. Are there any good toolkits for a headless, X-less scriptable browser? Have you tried something like this and if so do you have any words of wisdom?

• Send a public broadcast from an AppWidget in Android

  I have a widget for a music player and want to be able to send broadcasts when pushing the different buttons. What I want to do is when a button is pushed, the widget sends a public broadcast to another BroadcastReceiver so it can handle the different actions. • onsubmit() does not work.

  Here is something that I find disturbing. I created a small form, and I'm using AJAX to validate for me. I have a javascript function authenticate() that works sometimes. <form method="post" action="" id="login_form" onsubmit="authenticate()";> // various inputs <input type="button" onclick="authenticate()" value="Log In"> </form> authenticate() works just fine when I click the button. However, if I press enter the form is submitted, and it fails. It also fails if I call onSubmit(). In my debugging, I alert the outgoing texts-- they are identical. However, the Prototype Ajax function calls it the onSuccess, but there is just no response from the server. (The server outputs either "Success" or "Failure"). Why the different behaviors for onClick() vs onSubmit()? The exact same function is called, but the results are different. Any help would be appreciated. --Dave

• Logging exceptions during bean injection

  I think this is a pretty basic question, but after Googling around I can't seem to find the answer. What I need is a way to log some custom output with log4j during Spring bean construction. I have a factory class called ResponderFactory (being used as an instance factory in Spring) with a factory method that can throw 2 different types of exception. public CollectorResponder collectorResponder(String inputQueueName) throws ConfigurationException, BrokerConnectionException {} Now, normally I could wrap a call to this method in a try-catch block with 2 catch clauses to handle the logging situations for each of the exceptions. • Audio in xCode4.x is producing console warnings

  While the app works, I am seeing pages of console log warnings when I'm running my app on the simulator. Even Apple's "LoadPresetDemo" sample app produces the same warning messages. • My service does not start on Windows 2008 (it works on Windows 2003)

  When we install our product on Windows 2008 SP2, couple of services fail to start. After trying different things, we figured out that these service were able to start when "Log on as" is set to "Local system account". This service does need to run as a specific user because it requires access to secure resources. The service did run just fine under this special user account under Windows 2003. I am thinking the problem is related to UAC (user access control). Under interactive mode one can elevate permission by answering the security dialog box. How to do the same for a service? How to configure the service so it runs with necessary permissions? Thanks! Couple of notes I would like to add. One solution I tried is to execute the installer as administrator. The service does get installed. However, it creates another problem. An embedded 3rd party product and its files get installed with admin only rights. So we do need to run the installer as logged in user.

• (solved) jQuery click and drag/scroll window: jagged movement

  Edit: derp, using pageX/Y instead of clientX/Y -- apparently scrollBy expects input with that offset rather than the other. Jaggy movement gone. I am getting jagged movement when doing small scroll increments using the following bindings. Can anyone point me in the right direction for how to smooth this out? FYI, its intermittent. It seems like, if I click and hold for a second, then drag at a decent speed there are no problems. Edit: What the hell? I get this output on debug... obvious jog backwards and forwards. • Incremental Timer

  I'm currently using a Timer and TimerTask to perform some work every 30 seconds. My problem is that after each time I do this work I want to increment the interval time of the Timer. So for example it starts off with 30 seconds between the timer firing but I want to add 10 seconds to the interval then so that the next time the Timer takes 40 seconds before it fires. • PHP sessions causing Apache to hang indefinitely

  The problem is that every so often a page that writes to a Session will cause apache to hang forever for a particular session. Once this error occurs for one user any further modifications to any session of any user will cause the website to hang for this user. This problem has been my sole focus for days. I have a development VPS running Windows 2003 and default latest version of XAMPP using the standard PHP session handler. The code in question actually runs on two other machines perfectly normally so although my common sense says it’s a web server configuration issue but at this point I am willing to try anything. On further investigation there are no errors in the Apache, PHP or System event log. Resources are abundant and there is no “AJAX shit storm” or more than a couple writes to a session per page. I have also implemented session_write_close() wherever possible to try and help elevate the problem. I have checked the session’s directory which is set to “C:\windows\Temp” and found that once a user enters this hanging phase that the corresponding session file is exclusively locked and the only way to resolve this is to stop Apache and wait a few moments for the files to become unlocked and delete them. I am not wondering if deletion is required. The Sessions themselves only contain 4 bits of information. ShoppingCartID, UserID, UserLevel and Refering URL and are alphanumerical with an occasional slash. • How do I avoid repetition in Java ResourceBundle strings?

  We had a lot of strings which contained the same sub-string, from sentences about checking the log or how to contact support, to branding-like strings containing the company or product name. The repetition was causing a few issues for ourselves (primarily typos or copy/paste errors) but it also causes issues in that it increases the amount of text our translator has to translate. The solution I came up with went something like this: public class ExpandingResourceBundleControl extends ResourceBundle.Control { public static final ResourceBundle.Control EXPANDING = new ExpandingResourceBundleControl(); private ExpandingResourceBundleControl() { } @Override public ResourceBundle newBundle(String baseName, Locale locale, String format, ClassLoader loader, boolean reload) throws IllegalAccessException, InstantiationException, IOException { ResourceBundle inner = super.newBundle(baseName, locale, format, loader, reload); return inner == null ? null : new ExpandingResourceBundle(inner, loader); } } ExpandingResourceBundle delegates to the real resource bundle but performs conversion of {{this.kind.of.thing}} to look up the key in the resources. Every time you want to get one of these, you have to go: ResourceBundle.getBundle("com/acme/app/Bundle", EXPANDING); And this works fine -- for a while. What eventually happens is that some new code (in our case autogenerated code which was spat out of Matisse) looks up the same resource bundle without specifying the custom control. This appears to be non-reproducible if you write a simple unit test which calls it with and then without, but it occurs when the application is run for real. Somehow the cache inside ResourceBundle ejects the good value and replaces it with the broken one. I am yet to figure out why and Sun's jar files were compiled without debug info so debugging it is a chore. My questions: Is there some way of globally setting the default ResourceBundle.Control that I might not be aware of? That would solve everything rather elegantly. Is there some other way of handling this kind of thing elegantly, perhaps without tampering with the ResourceBundle classes at all?

• What Happens to Commit Logs on a Branch After Merging?

  Scenario: Programmer creates a branch for project 'foo' called 'my_foo' at revision 5 Programmer makes multiple changes to multiple files as he works on the 'my_foo' feature. At the end of each major step, say adding several new functions to class, the programmer does an svn commit on the appropriate files therefore committing them to the branch After several weeks and many commits later (each commit having a commit log describing what he did), the programmer merges the branch back into the trunk: #Assume the following is being done from inside a working copy of the trunk: svn merge -r 5:15 file:///path/to/repo/branches/my_foo Hazzah! he's merged all his changes back into trunk! There's much rejoicing and drinking of Mountain Dew. Now let's say another programmer comes along a week later and updates their working copy from revision 5 to revision 15. "Wow", they say. "I wonder what's changed since revision 5". • 501 Error during Libjingle PCP on Amazone EC2 running Openfire

  I am trying to implement Google's Libjingle (version: 0.6.14) PCP example and I am getting a 501: feature not implemented error during execution. Specifically, the error occurs after each "account" has connected, been authenticated and began communicating with the other. An abbreviated log of the interaction is provided at the end. I have set up my own jabber server (using OpenFire on an Amazon EC2 server), have opened all of the necessary ports and have added each "account" to the other's roster. The server has been set to allow for file transfers. My being new to working with servers, I am not sure why this error is occur and how to go about fixing it. Thanks in advance, AeroBuffalo P.S.
