• How to fix corrupted filesystem (shows as RAW) in USB device?

  I would like to ask if you know how to fix a corrupted USB? I've tried the diskpart command but it didn't work. The media is write protected. Do you have any idea that is much better? I need to fix it because I have important files in my flash drive. I really need to retrieve it. I saw that the file system is seen as RAW and is unaccessible. I tried error checking, but it requires you to format it. I tried data recovery software but all files come out corrupted. My USB is Imation 4GB. Any suggestions?

So, how big can your SharePoint 2010 installation be? There are three kinds of limits you should know about Hard limits that cannot be exceeded by design. Configurable that are, well configurable – but the default values are set for a pretty good reason, so if you need to tweak, plan and understand before you tweak. Soft limits, you can exceed them, but it is not recommended that you do. Before you read any of the limits, read these two important disclaimers - 1. The limit depends on what you’re doing. So, don’t take the below as gospel, the reality depends on your situation. 2. There are many additional considerations in planning your SharePoint solution scalability and performance, besides just the below. Now I am not a Linux OS expert, so I have no doubt that someone out there will explain to me that this is perfectly logical from the OS's point of view. However, my question still stands, is it possible to fool, not hack, the OS into letting you view files/inode info which you are not supposed to? What if I had issued the command chmod 0000 fooledYa, could an experienced programmer find some round about way to read a file such as fooledYa/ohReally/foo.txt?

• Understanding how Tracert works

  From what I gathered so far, Tracert works by sending 3 ICMP echo messages. Starting with a TTL value of 1. For each router the packet encounters, the TTL value will be decremented. For the 1st router, 1-1 = 0, so an ICMP "time exceeded" message will be sent back to the sender machine. Next, the TTL value will be incremented to 2 by the sender machine and the cycle repeats for the 2nd router (2--1--0) and so on. Please correct me if my undestanding is flawed. I am curious as to why the ICMP "time exceeded" message isn't displayed by Tracert in Command Prompt since it is in fact an error message ? The cycle simply proceeds on. Thanks.

• Read Linux-formatted (ext3) EBS volume mounted on Windows Server 2008 instance

  I've got a Windows Server 2008 R2 instance set up in Amazon EC2. I've also got some Ubuntu instances on the same EC2 account. I'd like to be able to mount the EBS volume from one of the Ubuntu instances onto the Windows instance as an external drive and then access that drive from the Windows instance. I've looked at tools like ext2fsd and ext2 IFS, but these haven't worked (I couldn't get the former to work, and the latter says that it supports Windows 2008 but gives an error when I try to install it, saying that it only supports up to Windows 2003). I know that there are all kinds of tools to view Linux partitions and that there are filesystems that are compatible with both Linux and Windows, but neither of those options works here (I want to be able to attach and detach the Ubuntu volumes on command, rather than have a permanent partition, and Ubuntu EBS volumes are ext3 by default). Anybody know a good tool I should use?

• mkisofs - Floppy Image to Disk Image

  I'm trying to compile MikeOS on windows. I've successfully (I think) created a floppy (.flp) image of the operating system. I want to convert it to a disk image (.iso) so I can run it in virtual box. I've tried mkisofs -quiet -V 'MIKEOS' -input-charset iso8859-1 -o disk_images/mikeos.iso -b mikeos.flp disk_images/ Which is the command in the Linux build script. It does create an ISO image, but when I try to run in in VirtualBox, I get a black screen. What am I doing wrong? Here's my build script.

• IIS will not install on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

  I have a new PC running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. I have an issue installing IIS - it goes through the install process, but at the end tells me "not all components could be installed", with no additional information given. There is no sign of an error in the install log or in event viewer. However, at this point, IIS is installed and working! I can run IIS manager, browse to localhost and see the default page, but at the next reboot the system rolls back and th einstall vanishes. I have tried installing II using the Windows Components section in Add/Remove Programs, I have also tried the Web Platform Installer and using the command line, all with the same end result.

• Problem restarting my Ubuntu system

  Whenever I try to restart my Ubuntu either from the command line by typing reboot or in GNOME the computer goes from X to console, starts the shutdown process and then a message saying "[ some number ] Starting new kernel" appears on the screen and the computer goes back to X login screen. I suspect this must have something to do with nvidia drivers, because it seemed to have appeared around the time I bought a new graphic card. Also, when I reboot the second time I see weird graphical artifacts on the screen. When I boot from ubuntu live cd I can reboot just fine. I used jaunty, recently I switched to karmic with no change. This bug is very annoying, because I have to hard reset my computer in order to reboot. Also not good for the filesystems, I suspect. Can you suggest a way to debug the cause or if not at least the easiest way to go about reinstalling ubuntu without losing customizations/settings/data?

• ESXi 4.1 CentOS 6.X eth0 unnavailable

  I don't usually ask for help so directly, usually google have all i need but this time i'm seriously lost. Hope you can help me .s The thing is, i have a server with Vmware ESXi 4.1 and 5 already running and configured virtual servers, but whenever i try to make a new one on CentOS 6.X it leaves me without eth0 to be activated in any way. When installing CentOS, in the screen of localhost.localdomain i try by the button in the left down corner of the screen to make eth0 connect automatically but it tells me a NetworkManager Error: cannot start eth0. So...in command line once the CentOS is already installed, i have configured ifcfg-eth0 and manually tried to take up the eth0 but when i restart network service "Bringing up eth0: Failed" and sometimes even "shutting down eth0: Failed" Thanks in advance

The problem is because you tripped the Caret Browsing feature at some point, and accidentally hit Yes. To fix this, you can just hit the F7 key again. • Citrix XenServer iSCSI shared disk?

  I am running Citrix XenServer Essentials 5.5, with VMs stored on an EqualLogic iSCSI shelf, using XenServer's StorageLink. I would like to create a "virtual disk" that can be attached to multiple VMs. This would be used for a cluster file system like OCFS2 or GFS. This doesn't seem possible using the XenCenter GUI and I can't find anything online about how to do it. I realize I could simply expose the iSCSI network to the VM and have the VM initiate its own iSCSI, but that creates a lot of security challenges. This was pretty easy to do on Oracle VM Server, which is Xen based, so I know it's not a limitation of Xen itself. Maybe there is an "xe-" command for this? Thanks for any suggestions you can provide.

• Juju Zookeeper & Provisioning Agent Not Deployed

  I am using juju with the openstack provider, i expected that when i bootstrap that zookeeper and provisioning agent would get deployed on the bootstrap vm in openstack. This dose not seem to be the case. the bootstrap vm gets deployed but it seems that nothing gets deployed to the VM. See logs below, I may be missing something, also how is it possible to log on the bootstrap vm. Could I manual deploy, if so what do I need to do. • How could two processes bind onto the same port?

  I just ran into an issue where a request made to localhost:8080 from curl was hitting a different server than the same request made from inside Node. lsof -i :8080 revealed that two processes were both binding onto the same port: COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME node 51961 mball 14u IPv4 0xd980e0df7f175e13 0t0 TCP *:http-alt (LISTEN) java 62704 mball 320u IPv6 0xd980e0df7fe08643 0t0 TCP *:http-alt (LISTEN) How is this possible? Were they binding onto different interfaces? Or was it the IPv4 vs 6? If you're curious, node was hitting the other node process, curl was hitting the java process. The java process was started after the node process.

  I have received many comments, email, suggestions and motivations for my current series of wait types and wait statistics. One of the questions which I keep on receiving almost every other day is whether all of the discussions I have presented so far are also applicable to SQL Server 2000. Additionally, I receive another question asking me if wait statistics matters in SQL Server 2000. If it is, then the asker wants to know how to measure wait types for SQL Server 2000. In SQL Server, you can run the following command to get a list of all the wait types: DBCC SQLPERF(waitstats) The query above will work in SQL Server 2005/2008/R2  because of backup compatibility. As you might have noticed, I have been discussing everything keeping SQL Server 2005+ in mind, but I have given little consideration on SQL Server 2000. However, I am pretty sure that most of the suggestions I have provided are applicable to SQL Server 2000. The wait types I have been discussing mostly exist in SQL Server 2000 as well. But the difference of the 2000 version is that it gets late recent releases, but it is worth it. Wait types are very essential to measure performance bottleneck. Because of this, I do not have to state that I am big fan of them just so I could identify performance bottleneck. Please read all the post in the Wait Types and Queue series. Note: The information presented here is from my experience and there is no way that I claim it to be accurate. I suggest reading Book OnLine for further clarification.   I'm trying to use the PHP CLI, and when I enter something like php test.php in the command line it returns: PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626/php_mysql.dll' - dlopen(/usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626/php_mysql.dll, 9): image not found in Unknown on line 0 something test.php contains: <?php echo 'something'; ?> I checked /usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626/, and as expected the .dll file isn't there. I'm a complete beginner when it comes to this - what is happening, and how can I fix it? A search of my system for "php_msyql.dll" reveals nothing. Does it have to do with how I compiled it? I don't have the original version of php that came with the mac, I think - I may have reinstalled it somewhere along the way. Any help would be appreciated!

Script by AJR to update local spamassassin rules cd /tmp wget -c http://www.stearns.org/sa-blacklist/sa-blacklist.current mv sa-blacklist.current local.cf -f mv local.cf /etc/mail/spamassassin -f rm local.cf -f /etc/init.d/psa-spamassassin restart now, this script runs fine, but plesk doesn't seem to recognize the blacklist in its GUI. which is annoying, especially because plesk itself writes to /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf. i wasn't able to find out the secret place, where plesk distinguishes between entries in local.cf added via GUI and command line. any help is appreciated! thanks.

• MYSQL backup and restore

  I am having trouble getting mysql backups to run properly when their are views in the database. I think this might have something to do with needing a placeholder object for it. In any event I run this command: mysqldump -u myuser -pmypassword mydatabase | mysql -u myuser -pmypassword -C mydatabase_Beta The user has full privileges and I get this: View mydatabase_beta.yadayada references invalid tables or columns or functions or definer/invoker or view lack rights to use them. How can I back it up so that it restores all of my database properly? In the example I am restoring it to a different name but I do need to be able to restore a working copy. I think it is probably an additional mysqldump parameter or maybe hot copy would work better. Thoughts?

• Restore monitor detection to one only or restore start menu to bottom [Windows 7]

  I have a co-worker that is no longer able to see his start menu. He used to have it pinned to the left edge of his screen. I tried to troubleshoot it a bit and discovered if we do Windows + R then "cmd" [enter] the command prompt opens (but we don't see the start menu or run box), meaning the start menu is somewhere, just off screen. Restarting doesn't help. Is there some way to force Windows to think it only has a single monitor? It seems to "think" it has two but there's only one and we can get the Start menu back. Or, is there a way to restore the start menu to the bottom? Additional info We are able to right-click the desktop for display settings, etc. We can also get into Windows Explorer (via Ctrl + E) so if we need any of that to restore settings we can do it.

  I have a site collection set up at web app running at port 80. I have made the backup of the site collection content db using stsadm.exe tool. Now, I want to restore that backup as a new content db of a different site collection - the one set up at web app running at port 500. I have done the following: Created a backup Created new web app at port 500 (I did not create a site collection for this web app) I have removed the content db of that new web app using Central Administration I have run the stsadm.exe -o addcontentdb -url webapp-at-port-500 -databasename Command is successfully completed, however when I check the Content Database page for that web app, it says that the Number of Sites is 0! Also, when I try to open http://webapp-at-port-500, I get the error saying that the webpage cannot be found. Could anyone please help me, it's driving me crazy. Thanks.

I think I've installed all the dependencies per the website but when I run make I get the error below. makedepend -- -g -Wall -I/usr/include/pcap -D_BSD_SOURCE `pkg-config --cflags gtk+-2.0` -DDRIFTNET_VERSION='"0.1.6"' `cat endianness` -- audio.c mpeghdr.c gif.c img.c jpeg.c png.c driftnet.c image.c display.c playaudio.c connection.c media.c util.c http.c cat: endianness: No such file or directory /bin/sh: makedepend: command not found make: *** [depend] Error 127 What have I done wrong? Is there something similar but more current?

• How to list my harddrives in OpenSolaris?

  I have a machine with two harddrives. I have installed OpenSolaris on one of them and now I want to add the other one as a mirror-drive in my zpool. But to do that I have to know the name of my drive, something like c7d0s0. Using the command zpool status can I see the harddrives already in use in my zpool but not the hard-drives that are not in use. How can I list the names of the hard-drives that are not in use in any zpool or list the name of all my hard-drives?

• SQLCMD not recogized despite install of SQL Server Native Client for SQL2008

  This little question is part of a much larger issue I am trying to resolve: Does SQLCMD require a separate install or is it included with the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Native Client (which I just installed on my webserver). Maybe this is just an incorrect path issue. Here is what I tried: C:\>sqlcmd -S tcp:devmojito\mssqlserver2008,1433 'sqlcmd' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. C:\> This same syntax works when executed from the c drive on my SQL Server machine.
