• Why does my cursor jump when typing in ubuntu 11.10

  When typing in Ubuntu my cursor jumps around and its not application specific. It doesn't matter or Im filing in a web form, writing an e-mail or using LibreOffice or Lyx. Im using a Sony Vaio 64bit machine. i read a previous question (link below) on this subject which indicates it may have something to do with the touchpad settings. as this has occurred in previous Ubuntu distros Im guess it is somekind of hardware issue. How do you turn of the touchpad when typing to avoid the cursor jumping around? I'd be grateful if anyone can make this stop Stephen

• Annual SQL Server conference in Poland - SQLDay 2014

We started in 2008 as a part of C2C (community to communities) conference and after that, from 2009 the SQLDay is the independent event dedicated to the SQL Server specialists. This year we had almost 300 people and speakers like Bob Ward, Klaus Aschenbrenner and Alberto Ferrari. • Printing multiple pages per sheet doesn't work

  In Ubuntu 12.04, I added a network printer which I had previously used without any problems on a different machine (with the same release of Ubuntu). Now, with the default generic driver installed, printing multiple pages per sheet from evince doesn't work properly. If I select 2 per sheet, be it long or short edge, it always prints 4. Why is this? It used to happen with non-pdf documents in the past, like from a browser. My workaround was to print to pdf file and then print the pdf itself. Now I'm clueless... Edit: the same happens with a different network printer, in which I installed the driver specific to its particular model.

  Does somebody know, how this is supposed to be implemented correctly? In my local business full page, I have a carousel with several images, so what I did is that on the container of this carousel i have written the following: "itemprop='photos' itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/ImageObject"", i.e. <div class="tourism-product-media-gallery" itemprop='photos' itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/ImageObject"> and then on each and every image i have written the following: "itemprop="contentURL"", i.e. <img src="@mediaItem.NormalImage" alt="@mediaItemCaption" itemprop="contentURL"/> But i am not convinced that this is the way it should be. • Missed environment variables in Eclipse Juno

  I recently moved from Eclipse Indigo to Juno. I installed the IDE in my Ubuntu 12.04 by downloading the archive from here. Then I created an entry in the unity launcher for Juno as I done before for Indigo. Here is what I wrote in ~/.local/share/applications/eclipse-juno.desktop: [Desktop Entry] Type=Application Name=Eclipse Juno Comment=Eclipse Integrated Developmentm Environment Icon=~/.eclipse-juno/icon.xpm Exec=~/.eclipse-juno/eclipse -vmargs -Duser.name="my name" Terminal=false Categories=Development;IDE;Java; When I run eclipse from the unity launcher, eclipse does not see environment variables that I set in ~/.bascrc. Instead, if I run eclipse from shell, it can see all the env variables. How can I fix the problem? Thanks a lot.

• Apache Rewrites not working due to Akamai

  I have a website which is setup with akamai. My domain and subdomains are mapped onto an Akamai IP. I have written an Apache rewrite which does an internal URL X to another internal URL Y. This rewrite works fine as long as I am testing in my local setup or for those subdomains which are not mapped onto Akamai but directly onto my Public IP. My suspicion is that while rewriting the request apache is not able to resolve the IP of the app server correctly. When I add entries to my /etc/hosts file pointing the domain/subdomain to my internal IP the rewrites work. Now, I have a huge list of subdomains and it can grow as well. Is there another way to fix this problem without having to make entries in the /etc/hosts file ? I would much appreciate your thoughts.

• Improve efficiency of web building setup and processes - Wordpress on Mac

  Can anyone see any ways in which I can improve my speed and efficiency with the following setup? Or if there are any obvious holes in my building process? This is for building Wordpress websites on Mac: 1) I have a standard Wordpress setup that I work from which includes various plugins that I tend to use across all setups - thus cutting out the step of having to download them all the time! 2) My standard WP files are copied into a Dropbox folder - thus creating backups of the files. 3) I then open up MAMP and setup a local version. 4) I open up Coda and setup the FTP details so files can be uploaded to the live domain by using the publish button. If anyone has any advice on how to improve this process then please let me know!

• Dual Partion windows not working ?

  I originally set up Ubuntu "along side" widows(Vista) and realized it was done though wubi after I tried to set up a VB and didn't have enough room. I then repartitioned the HD and did a stand alone Ubuntu install. The problem is when I try to boot windows it starts to load then does a flash and heads back to the start up boot page with ubuntu and windows on the boot screen. Ubuntu loads fine, everytime but windows goes back. Here is the boot script info. http://paste.ubuntu.com/6405545/ Any help would be appreciated. I want to leave windows behind but still need it for some things on this machine.

• How do I reset my password?

  I inherited a machine with Ubuntu desktop installed. It has a password in place and I have no idea what the password may be. I cannot get to the command line to use the methods I have found online. No matter how many times I press "Shift" during the boot process it still goes all the way to the desktop login. I never see grub. I am not sure which version I have but I think may be 9 or 10. • Compiz stop working

  I'm on a laptop sony vaio, vng-nw330f with ubuntu 11.10. One day I used my computer normally, I shutdown and the other day when I turn on it again, all was different. Compiz effects is not working at all, it doesn't matter what plugin (from ccsm) i enable or disable, nothings happens, nothings changes. I tried next commands: unity --reset unity --reset-icons sudo rm -rf .config .gnome .gnome2 .gnome2_private .compiz .icons .fonts .nautilus .themes .qt .local (from my home directory) gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/compiz-1 I try reinstalling compiz (I remove compiz from software center and installed it again). I have just a couple of weeks using ubuntu, I'm not sure if exist a desktop call it unity 3d, but I think that it's missing. I want the graphics interface of ubuntu 11.10 by default.

• Add Custom Launcher in 11.10

  I started by searching guides. I found this guide but neither of the main methods works anymore in 11.10. The first solution, I have created the desktop file, however the file location given as .gconf-> desktop-> unity-> launcher -> favourites no longer exists. I can get to /home/sayth/.gconf/desktop but there is no longer a unity folder. The second solution described right-clicking the desktop and creating a launcher. Right-clicking the desktop no longer produces a "create a launcher" option. I manually installed geany 0.21 as the one in the repo's is outdated. It's installed and working correctly, and is executing from /usr/local/bin/geany. How can I add it to the launcher?

• How to Customize Fonts and Colors for Gnome Panels in Ubuntu Linux

  Earlier this week we showed you how to make the Gnome Panels totally transparent, but you really need some customized fonts and colors to make the effect work better. Here’s how to do it. This article is the first part of a multi-part series on how to customize the Ubuntu desktop, written by How-To Geek reader and ubergeek, Omar Hafiz. Changing the Gnome Colors the Easy Way You’ll first need to install Gnome Color Chooser which is available in the default repositories (the package name is gnome-color-chooser). Then go to System > Preferences > Gnome Color Chooser to launch the program. When you see all these tabs you immediately know that Gnome Color Chooser does not only change the font color of the panel, but also the color of the fonts all over Ubuntu, desktop icons, and many other things as well. Now switch to the panel tab, here you can control every thing about your panels. You can change font, font color, background and background color of the panels and start menus. Tick the “Normal” option and choose the color you want for the panel font. If you want you can change the hover color of the buttons on the panel by too. A little below the color option is the font options, this includes the font, font size, and the X and Y positioning of the font. The first two options are pretty straight forward, they change the typeface and the size. The X-Padding and Y-Padding may confuse you but they are interesting, they may give a nice look for your panels by increasing the space between items on your panel like this: X-Padding:   Y-Padding:   The bottom half of the window controls the look of your start menus which is the Applications, Places, and Systems menus. You can customize them just the way you did with the panel.   Alright, this was the easy way to change the font of your panels. Changing the Gnome Theme Colors the Command-Line Way The other hard (not so hard really) way will be changing the configuration files that tell your panel how it should look like. In your Home Folder, press Ctrl+H to show the hidden files, now find the file “.gtkrc-2.0”, open it and insert this line in it. If there are any other lines in the file leave them intact. include “/home/<username>/.gnome2/panel-fontrc” Don’t forget to replace the <user_name> with you user account name. When done close and save the file. Now navigate the folder “.gnome2” from your Home Folder and create a new file and name it “panel-fontrc”. Open the file you just created with a text editor and paste the following in it: style “my_color”{fg[NORMAL] = “#FF0000”}widget “*PanelWidget*” style “my_color”widget “*PanelApplet*” style “my_color” This text will make the font red. If you want other colors you’ll need to replace the Hex value/HTML Notation (in this case #FF0000) with the value of the color you want. To get the hex value you can use GIMP, Gcolor2 witch is available in the default repositories or you can right-click on your panel > Properties > Background tab then click to choose the color you want and copy the Hex value. Don’t change any other thing in the text. When done, save and close. Now press Alt+F2 and enter “killall gnome-panel” to force it to restart or you can log out and login again. Most of you will prefer the first way of changing the font and color for it’s ease of applying and because it gives you much more options but, some may not have the ability/will to download and install a new program on their machine or have reasons of their own for not to using it, that’s why we provided the two way. • does eCryptfs support multiple users?

  I'm new to ecryptfs and I need some clarification on how it works. Suppose there are two root users userA and userB, If I mount some folder under userA: [userA@Dev] $ mount ecryptfs real img now I can visit the img folder to access decrypted data. My questions is: While userA is still in log in state. Can userB login and access the decrypted data? This is currently what I observed on my local machine, but I'm not sure if it was cause by my misconfiguration. If it is the case, how can I avoid other users from accessing the decrypted data while userA is in login state?

  3 weeks of traveling through Asia and Australia - nearly 500 customers and partners in 8 workshops in Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing, Shenzhen, Singapore, Melbourne, Perth and Manila. Great people in all places, many interesting discussions, several new reference prospects for Oracle Database 11g Release 2 - YOU should upgrade as well pretty soon :-) But now it's time to go home. We are a bit exhausted but we really enjoyed it talking to and with you. And I'd suppose we'll meet again the sooner or later. • Virtualising Windows 8 on OS X with VMware Fusion above the 8GB limit

  tl;dr - don't.VMware Fusion has an 8GB limit, so on my 16GB MacBook Pro (which is an old one with a 16GB memory upgrade), I wanted to use more than 8GB. You can fudge it my editing the .vmx file and changing the memsize value to whatever you want.However it turns out that if you do this the performance on the whole machine turns into a big. It beachballs all over the place, both in VMware and without. Constant hanging of VMware, fan running hot the whole time, etc.This is just an apocryphal view, but having spent a week and a half with it unusable and me thinking I was going to have to go back to Win7, turn it down back to using 8GB exactly seems to be working much more stably.

I want to start making iPhone apps, and there are lots of guides for that. Embracing my inner Hyde, however, I want to first learn about the iOS system architecture. • DNS slows down on development environment

  I have a local development environment setup on my Mac. I am running an Ubuntu Web Server inside of a Virtual Box VM. I setup a host file on my Mac that points my dev site to the IP of the Ubuntu Virtual Server. Everything works good other than the fact a lot (not all) of the time it takes more than 5 seconds to load a page. I used firebug to track down where the problem is and when it's slow the DNS part of my request is taking over 5 seconds. Like I said it's not all the time. Sometimes it resolves and loads the page within milliseconds. The same page one click will be super fast and then the next time it takes over 5 seconds. It's really slowing me down and I am not sure what is causing it.

• .NET - refactoring code

  I have inherited and now further develop a large application consisting of an ASP.NET application, VB6 and VB.NET application. The software was poorly written. I am trying to refactor the code as I go along. The changes I am making are not live (they are contained in a folder on my development machine). This is proving to be time consuming and I am doing this along side other work which is the prioritiy. My question is: is this a practical approach or is there a better methodology for refactoring code? I don't have any experience with version control software or source control software and I am wandering if this is what I am missing. I am a sole developer.
