• Migrating shape sql to something equally powerful

  Hi, we are currently investigating a migration of an application that doesn't meet company standards. The application is built using VB6 and Shape SQL/Access. The application has about 120 reports by storing Shape SQL strings in a database which the user can modify using a wizard. Shape sql is not allowed at this company. We have investigated plain SQL, Linq, Entity Framework as alternatives... but all result in more complex solutions. Does anyone have another suggestion?   Hai, I wrote the coding for add / remove the default documents of IIS7 in vb.net 2.0 windows application using Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll. The coding is working fine. After adding a new document, the messagebox showing that newly added document name. Simillarly if I remove any document, the messagebox not showing that document name. So that I am saying, the coding is working fine. Now the problem is, I can't see the newly added document name in II7 Manager GUI. The next proplem is, my website not access that newly added document. Please can any body suggest for these problems. What the mistake I did the vb.net 2.0 windows application coding and what are the modifications I need to do? Thanks in advance.

  I am quite fond of the Intellisense code completion baked into Microsoft Visual Studio. I find that I only type 2 to 4 characters of any given keyword which drasticaly speeds up my coding. Now that I have been spending time writing some Python code I find myself reaching for ctrl+space. Are there any IDEs that support code completion in Python? I do my python development on a Mac so an OS x tool would be preferable. It seems like the doc string property of Python methods is a perfect match for inline API discovery.

To repeat, I have a System.Diagnostics.Process object that I know refers to a running Excel instance. I now need to recover a Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application object that refers to the process so that I can go about manipulating the Excel application from C#. In case it makes it any simpler, I also have the HWND id and window text associated with the active Excel window. Thanks.

  So I wrote a project-management program for a small business using Microsoft Access 2007. Now they've requested lots of additional features (timekeeping, privileged data tiers ...) I personally use Linux, but the whole office uses Windows. I'm relatively new to programming but like to teach myself using projects like this. I'm right on the edge on this -- I can't really tell what the path of least resistance here is: do I stay in access + VBA and teach myself a dying, annoying language -- while struggling against all the limitations of Access? Or do I move to something else? Python seems simple enough ... Whatever I use, i need to be able to offer a GUI.

  I developed some javascript enhanced pages that run fine on recent Firefox and Safari. I missed to check in Internet Explorer, and now I find the pages don't work on IE 6 and 7 (so far). The scripts are somehow not executed, the pages show as if javascript wasn't there, although some javascript is executed. I am using own libraries with dom manipulation, from YUI 2 I use YUI-Loader and the XML-Http-Request, and on one page I use "psupload", which depends on JQuery. I am installing Microsoft Script Editor from Office XP and will now debug. I will also write specific tests now. What are the typical failing points of IE? What direction I can keep my eyes open. • How to clear cache for previously installed InfoPath forms on a client computer?

  Hi folks, We recently had a strange issue with an InfoPath 2007 form being opened from SharePoint 2007 and receiving the error message "the system cannot find the file specified". To be clear, this was not a form services enabled form. Anyway, after spending way too much time trying to figure out what was going on (nothing in the MOSS 2007 server log files), we determined that the user had previously installed an older version of the form (but with the same name) on their workstation using a no longer available msi file (meaning we could not uninstall it from the workstation). So I wanted to pass on a very simple solution for anyone who is unfortunate to run into this problem in the future (since I lost a great deal of hair over it): Fire up regedit, go to HKEY_LOCALMACHINE-Software-Microsoft-Office-InfoPath-SolutionsCatalog. Locate the key that has the previously installed form name, and delete it. This will cause InfoPath to stop trying to open the form locally (which is either old or doesn't exist) and force it to open your form from SharePoint. Hope this helps someone!

From what I understand after reading around a bit I should just need to mark the page as uncacheable but I can't get any browsers to refresh the page. • No Internet access while being connected to VPN using Cisco VPN Client 5.

  Hi, I have an access to corporate VPN using Cisco VPN Client 5.0.00:0340, but when I'm connected to it, I don't have an Internet access. I'm using Windows XP SP3. As it was suggested here http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?t=209167 , I tried to enable "Allow local LAN Access" but it doesn't work. I also tried a second solution - deleting entry using "route" command, but it didn't help. I used "route delete 192.168.100.222". It's a third day of my attempts to solve this issue and I don't have an idea what else to do. I'm not very experienced in VPN stuff, but I know something about networking. Basing on my knowledge, I think that it's theoretically possible to achieve Internet access using my local network and only corporate stuff to be routed using VPN connection. I think that theoretically this should look like this: every IP being inside by corporation - VPN interface IP every other IP - my ethernet interface I've tried many possibilities of how to change those routes, but neither of them work. I'd really appreciate any help.   I am following the example from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/8wy069k1.aspx to consume a web service implemented (by 3rd party) using the Event-based Asynchronous Pattern. However, my program needs to do multiple calls to the DoStuffAsync() hence will get back as many DoStuffCompleted. I chose the overload which takes an extra parameter - Object userState to distinguish them. My first question is: Is it valid to cast a GUID to Object as below, where GUID is used to generate unique taskID? Object userState = Guid.NewGuid(); Secondly, do I need to spawn off a new thread for each DoStuffAsync() call, since I am calling it multiple times? Also, would be nice to have some online examples or tutorials on this subject. (I've been googling for it the whole day and didn't get much back) Many thanks

• Accessing HttpRequest from Global.asax via a page

  I'm trying to get a property (ImpersonatePersonId) from a page in global.asax but get a HttpException saying 'Request is not available in this context'. I've been searching for some documentation on where in the pipeline the request is accessible, but as far as I can see all Microsoft can produce of documentation is one-liners like "PostRequestHandlerExecute: Occurs when the ASP.NET event handler finishes execution." which really doesn't give me much... I've tried placing the call in both Pre and PostRequestHandlerExceute but with the same result. I wonder if anyone with experience in this would be so kind as to tell me where the Request object is available. My code from global asax is below.   Hi, I need to give one client the ability to convert some videos to f4v h264 before loading it up to an AIR app. I normally doing with the Adobe Media Encoder CS4 but that only ships with adobe products (you can't download it as a free standalone app - which, start rant is odd, you'd think they would push the format - Microsoft's competing expresssion encoder is free end rant) Anyway, I need to get a (hopefully not too expensive, but willing to pay for it) good 3rd part app that can take any video and convert it to an f4v. Can you suggest any? Everything i've found is horrible or jammed with ads and crap. What would you use? Any suggestion? (please don't just say ffmpeg - I know it can do it but we need to good simple GUI) Thanks!

  I'm trying to read in a 24 GB XML file in C, but it won't work. I'm printing out the current position using ftell() as I read it in, but once it gets to a big enough number, it goes back to a small number and starts over, never even getting 20% through the file. I assume this is a problem with the range of the variable that's used to store the position (long), which can go up to about 4,000,000,000 according to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/s3f49ktz%28VS.80%29.aspx, while my file is 25,000,000,000 bytes in size. A long long should work, but how would I change what my compiler(Cygwin/mingw32) uses or get it to have fopen64?

But i would like to use Windows vista SetFileBandwidthReservation api to have the best throughput possible. For example // reserve bandwidth of 200 bytes/sec result = SetFileBandwidthReservation( hFile, 1000, 200, FALSE, &transferSize, &outstandingRequests ); What i dont understand is the lpTransferSize and lpNumOutstandingRequests return parameters. How should i next read the file for this to be the most worth it. Should i do exactly lpNumOutstandingRequests number of request of size lpTransferSize. Or can i do one synchronous request bigger than lpTransferSize.

The cab is created and i can copy it on the device and install the app. What im missing is that on device the application is not present in Programs folder. All i can do is browse to its location in /program files and run it manualy.   I am looking for a tool for building static template-based web sites, your typical brochure-ware for a non-profit or a personal site. I have used CityDesk, but that is out-of-date, unsupported, and has certain problems. Of course there are lots of tools out there, but I cannot find anything similar to CityDesk: WYSIWYG as well as HTML coding a templating system not overdesigned like, say, Dreamweaver built for developers who understand HTML/JS/CSS but easier to use than hand-coding of PHP, Ruby, or other templates in a text editor supporting the editing of pages by non-developers preferably free I'd also like it to be CSS-aware; and to have lots of free templates available. Or alternatively, static template-based sites are often developed nowadays on the Web using a CMS like Django; is that the way to go? Edit: Namo, DreamWeaver, NetObjects Fusion, Coffee Cup, Evrsoft First Page, and Microsoft Expression might be candidates. I'll appreciate comments on these based on the criteria above.

We have several WCF Web Services hosted and we need to cache certain values that can be persisted and fetched regardless of a client's session to a service. I am looking at the following technologies: Caching Application Block 4.1 WCF TCP Service using HttpRuntime Caching Memcached Win32 and Client Microsoft AppFabric Caching Beta 2 Our test server is a Windows Server 2003 with IIS6, but our production server is Windows Server 2008, so any of the above options would work (except for AppFabric Caching on our test server). Does anyone have any experience with any of these? This caching solution will not be used to store a lot of data, but it will need to be fetched from frequently and fast. Thanks in advance.
