• Perl to output processed XML file encoded as UTF-8 with UNIX line endings (in Win32 environment)?

  Running ActiveState Perl 5.8.8 on WinXP. As the title suggests, I'd like to output an XML file as UTF-8 with UNIX line endings. I've looked at the PerlDoc for binmode, but am unsure of the exact syntax (if I'm not barking up the wrong tree). The following doesn't do it (forgive my Perl - it's a learning process!): sub SaveFile { my($FileName, $Contents) = @_; my $File = "SAVE"; unless( open($File, ">:utf-8 :unix", $FileName) ) { die("Cannot open $FileName"); } print $File @$Contents; close($File); } Any suggestions? • Changing default image viewer in registry

  I want my application to change the program which should be launched if ie. a .jpg (in the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT) is launched. The *.jpg and *.jpeg items in the registry references the jpegfile-class, but when I change the value of the default application to open the file, the old default is still launched, but not my program. (I set the value in jpegfile/shell/open/command/ to the path of my application.) In firefox, the right-click menu etc the choice of default viewer will show that my application should be launched, but it isn't.

  I've got a problem when using Shoes. I'm basically trying to open an excel document and pass the names of the worksheets to a list_box. The following method is called on a button press after selecting a file. (This all works and the file opens) exc = WIN32OLE::new('excel.Application') excWB = exc.Workbooks.Open(xlsFile) @excWS = Array::new exc.visible = true excWB.Worksheets.each { |ws| @excWS.push(ws.name) } para @excWS list_box :items=> @excWS Not only do the names not show up in the list_box, the app crashes shortly after loading the box with no error. para @excWS shows the names of the worksheets with no problem. What am I doing wrong?

• Generator speed in python 3

  Hello all, I am going through a link about generators that someone posted. In the beginning he compares the two functions below. On his setup he showed a speed increase of 5% with the generator. I'm running windows XP, python 3.1.1, and cannot seem to duplicate the results. I keep showing the "old way"(logs1) as being slightly faster when tested with the provided logs and up to 1GB of duplicated data. Can someone help me understand whats happening differently?   I am developing a C# VS 2008 / SQL Server 2008 ASP.NET Web Applications project. In one of my ASPX files I am trying to reference the Master file, which is actually located in the parent website. In other words, when I open the parent website, I see this project listed. But when I open this project separately, I do not see parent website and this project is the root. So now how do I use the Master file from the parent website? Currently, I have in my ASPX file: <%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Site.Master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="EnhancedCreateUserWizard.aspx.cs" Inherits="Membership_EnhancedCreateUserWizard" Title="Untitled Page" %> But this won't work because it is a virtual path and since this project is the root, I can't access the Master file virtually. Instead I want to specify physical path. How accomplish I do this?

  I have been asked to design & develop a page in asp.net which contains 7 tabs.Each table contains 2 Editable gridview & clicking on gridview cell should open a popup & that popup will open a new popup ( I would say nested popup). even when i switch from one tab to another. It should hold the griddata & whenever user will finish all the operations he/she will click on save button which will save all the data contained in the tabs. The page is really too too too heavy. It will definitely take a long time to load as it contains gridview operations , popup related jobs, tab data & tab switching. I am finding the best way i can achieve this with an acceptable speed of operation. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

  Basically i have a query string that when i hardcode in the catalogue value its fine. when I try adding it via a variable it just doesn't pick it up. • How to put JFrame into existing JPanel in Java Swing?

  I have an open-source java swing application like this: http://i47.tinypic.com/dff4f7.jpg You can see in the screenshot, there is a JPanel divided into two area, left and right area. The left area has many text links. When I click the SLA Criteria link, it will pop-up the SLA Criteria window. The pop-up window is JFrame object. Now, I'm trying to put the pop-up window into right area of the JPanel, so that means no pop-up window anymore, i.e. when I click the SLA Criteria link, its contents will be displayed at the right area of the JPanel. The existing content of the right area of JPanel will not be used anymore. The example illustration (note: it's made and edited using image editor, this is not the real screenshot of working application) is like this: http://i48.tinypic.com/5vrxaa.jpg So, I would like to know is there a way to put JFrame into JPanel? I'm thinking of using JInternalFrame, is it possible? Or is there another way? • GPL/LGPL-licensed images + iPhone development

  Since the majority of legal links / READMEs I've found when browsing icon sets refer me to the general GPL / LGPL (as opposed to a specialized version of some kind) when I'm looking at license restrictions, I'm having a terrible time trying to figure out what would constitute source code, linking, etc. when it comes to images and / or icons. One specific example: under section 5 of the GPL, modifications must carry notices in the source code. . . how do I do that with an image? I guess I could try to find a few unused bits and encode my modifications in there (steganography, anyone?), but somehow that doesn't seem like what the license is shooting for. There are also other sections in there where I have no idea how to begin to comply with. Thus, I'm really confused. What exactly are the implications of using GPL and / or LGPL licensed images in something that isn't itself GPL'd? Specifically, I'd like to know what using GPL icons in an iPhone application might mean from a legal point of view. It feels like I'm missing something obvious here; any enlightenment / references would be appreciated!

• Pass logger instance to class

  Hi Guys, I'm using a open-source Python library in my project. This library logs a lot of information using the logging class. ...but I can't see the output or log it to file. I know that i would have to create a logger instance and add a file-handler or a console-handler to it but how can i pass this logger instance to the class?   i am new to WPF so maybe this will be "noob" question but i can't find answer to it (and it seems so easy)... well i am programing WPF app and i want to use smth similar to css for webpages, so i found ResourceDictionary and tried to use it... • How to launch a mac application without a terminal window.

  I've written an open-source c++ application and it works fine on Windows and Linux, I finally got a Mac Mini (with 10.5.8) so I've just been testing the Mac version. My application works fine when running it from inside a terminal window and typing ./appname , but if instead I double click on it from the finder, then it opens a termnial window first and then runs my app but it doesn't seem to set the working directory to the correct location so my app dies. How do I make my app so when it launches by being double clicked on it doesn't open a terminal window first and how can I have the current directory set to the apps location automatically?

• Usage of VIsual Memory Leak Detector

  I found a very interesting memory leak detector by using Visual C++. http://www.codeproject.com/KB/applications/visualleakdetector.aspx I try it out, but cannot make it works to detect a memory leak code. I am using MS Visual Studio 2008. • importing modules in app engine

  Ive asked this before, but it seems i wasnt clear/detailed enough and after a week of trying im still struggling so i will try again. i am trying to use, oauth2 and ply on app engine. i have tried copying their directories into my app engine project directory (in the form ply-3.4 or brosner-python-oauth2-82a05f9) and i have tried copying the specific sub directory contained within the aforemention one. (ply or oauth2) i have tried saying import oauth2, from brosner-oauth2_python-82a05f9 import oauth and other variations on the theme, but i still cant get it to work nothing has worked. i have tried including them in app.yaml, but that seemed to create an even bigger error as my entire project wouldnt even run when i tried that. and now i have run out of things to try. the error log i am getting is as follows.   Hi folks, I have the following two methods :- public static IQueryable<T> IncludeAssociations<T>(this IQueryable<T> source, params string[] associations) { ... } public static IQueryable<T> IncludeAssociations<T>(this IQueryable<T> source, params Expression<Func<T, object>>[] expressions) { ... } Now, when I try and pass in a params of Expression<Func<T, object>>[], it always calls the first method (the string[]' and of course, that value isNULL`) Eg. Expression<Func<Order, object>> x1 = x => x.User; Expression<Func<Order, object>> x2 = x => x.User.Passport; var foo = _orderRepo .Find() .IncludeAssociations(new {x1, x2} ) .ToList(); Can anyone see what I've done wrong? Why is it thinking my params are a string? Can I force the type, of the 2x variables?
