• SSRS: Report label position dynamic

  I have a report which displays customer address in multiple labels. My customers use windowed envelopes for mailing. I need the address labels position to be configurable. Something like, I'll have a database table which stores the Top/Left position of each label per customer. Based on this table, I need to position the address labels on my report. I thought, it is doable by expressions, but Location property doesn't provides ability to set an expression and make the label's top and left dynamic. Anybody, any ideas, on how to achieve this?

• Algorithm to Render a Horizontal Binary-ish Tree in Text/ASCII form

  It's a pretty normal binary tree, except for the fact that one of the nodes may be empty. I'd like to find a way to output it in a horizontal way (that is, the root node is on the left and expands to the right). I've had some experience expanding trees vertically (root node at the top, expanding downwards), but I'm not sure where to start, in this case. Preferably, it would follow these couple of rules: If a node has only one child, it can be skipped as redundant (an "end node", with no children, is always displayed) All nodes of the same depth must be aligned vertically; all nodes must be to the right of all less-deep nodes and to the left of all deeper nodes. Nodes have a string representation which includes their depth. Each "end node" has its own unique line; that is, the number of lines is the number of end nodes in the tree, and when an end node is on a line, there may be nothing else on that line after that end node. As a consequence of the last rule, the root node should be in either the top left or the bottom left corner; top left is preferred. For example, this is a valid tree, with six end nodes (node is represented by a name, and its depth): [a0]------------[b3]------[c5]------[d8] \ \ \----------[e9] \ \----[f5] \--[g1]--------[h4]------[i6] \ \--------------------[j10] \-[k3] Which represents the horizontal, explicit binary tree: 0 a / \ 1 g * / \ \ 2 * * * / \ \ 3 k * b / / \ 4 h * * / \ \ \ 5 * * f c / \ / \ 6 * i * * / / \ 7 * * * / / \ 8 * * d / / 9 * e / 10 j (branches folded for compactness; * representing redundant, one-child nodes; note that *'s are actual nodes, storing one child each, just with names omitted here for presentation sake) (also, to clarify, I'd like to generate the first, horizontal tree; not this vertical tree) I say language-agnostic because I'm just looking for an algorithm; I say ruby because I'm eventually going to have to implement it in ruby anyway. • Map only certain parts of the class to a database using SQLAlchemy?

  When mapping an object using SQLAlchemy, is there a way to only map certain elements of a class to a database, or does it have to be a 1:1 mapping? Example: class User(object): def __init__(self, name, username, password, year_of_birth): self.name = name self.username = username self.password = password self.year_of_birth = year_of_birth Say, for whatever reason, I only wish to map the name, username and password to the database and leave out the year_of_birth. Is that possible and will this create problems? Edit - 25/03/2010 Additionally, say I want to map username and year_of_birth to a separate database. Will this database and the one above still be connected (via username)?

• Code Profiling in the Windows Sidebar Environment

  Does anyone know of a way I can code-profile my Windows Sidebar Gadget? I've played around with the code-profiling tool in IE8's "Developer Tools" and the code-profiling included in Visual Studio 2010, but I can't find a way to include the System.* API, which my gadget relies on (as it is standard in the Sidebar environment). The gadget also relies on cross-domain AJAX requests; which is normally permitted in the Sidebar environment. By code-profiling I primarily mean: Function call count Function execution time Any ideas would be much appreciated. Regards, Matt

  I'm attempting to target VC7.1 (visual studio 2003 sp1) from Visual Studio 2010. I'm so close to setting it to work. An explicit conversion exists (are you missing a cast?)". I don't know why. Previous I used VisualStudio 2010 but my trial has expired. Is there any hope to run this on SharpDevelop?

• Make a div fall off the page

  Hey, So I have been playing with jQuery for a good time now and I'm trying to get an effect to work properly. I have a main square div in the middle of the page and when someone clicks a link I want the box to look like its falling off the page and disappear, revealing a new page behind it. I'v been playing with the easing plugin but I can seem to get what I want to work. Basically I have the div's top margin or just top distance increased to a large number. However, this just makes the div fall but it also expands my page and its just much lower on the page. I basically want the div to fall out of site and not change the dimensions of the site. Anyone know how to do that? Thanks! Danny

• Flash AS3 Coloring Book - Movieclip only clickable in certain spots (Event Listeners)

  I am working on a coloring book and have a movieclip (outlines) containing many movieclips that can be changed to whatever color the user has selected. However it seems like some of the movieclips can be clicked anywhere and work great, and others you need to click a certain spot for it to color in. I have an example here: http://jeffkilroy.com/hosted/softee/coloring.html Notice the three sections of the icecream (top, middle, bottom). The middle is clickable from anywhere inside the movieclip, however the top and especially bottom require you to click on specific spots in order for you to activate the event listener. Not sure if it is a depth issue because I would assume if that is the case it would activate at least a different movieclip but it just seems nothing happens at all.   Trying to setup a simple Thread/Poll table mapping. Here is what I have: Threads table ThreadID (Primary Key/Identity Column) Polls table PollID (Primary Key, FK for ThreadID for one-to-one relation) Question PollOptions table PollOptionID (Identity/Primary Key) Text PollID PollVotes table PollVoteID (Primary Key/Identity) PollOptionID I'm not sure if this is a proper relationship. It seems wrong but I'm not sure whats wrong with it. A Thread can have 0 or 1 Poll. A Poll can have 2 or more PollOptions. A PollOption can have 0 or many PollVotes. I'm going to be using Entity Framework and before I generate the code for it (VS 2010, .NET 4) I want to make sure I have the proper relationship mapping.

  I'm on my first approach with photoshop patterns.I'm buildin a webpage where I want to use my pattern to give a nice effect to my webpage background. The pattern I found is 120x120 px If I was done here I should use this css: background-imag:url(mypattern.jpg); background-repeat:repeat; But Im not done.Id like to *add to my page's background a linear gradient(dir=top/down col=light-blue/green) with the pattern fill layer on top of it, with blending mode=darken *. This is the final effect: I come to the point. QUESTION: Combining linear vertical-gradient effect and my 120x120 pattern is it possible to find a pattern that I could use to repeat itself endlessly both vertical and horizontal??which is a common solution in this case? • Can't Add LINQ to SQL classes to projects in VS2010

  I just ran into something in Visual Studio 2010 RC that wasn't previously happening (like, yesterday). No software changes here, but I did run into some muck yesterday when compiling that required a reboot. I am unable to add LINQ to SQL classes to any project through the add dialog. I have created ASP.NET web sites, ASP.NET MVC projects - both of these as 'templated' and as 'empty' - and there appear to be no templates installed or available. I have made sure that the project targets the 4.0 Framework. I can easily add a new database and the ADO.NET entity framework templates are there. As a workaround I can copy a DBML file to my project, delete all tables and sprocs, update the connection string and use the leftover shell (the designer works fine like this), but it's a pain. Has anyone else had their templates drop? Figured out how to reinstall them?

• Gradient a Parallelogram

  I'm working in JavaScript drawing on a canvas, and have four coordinates to draw a parallelogram, called A, B, C, and D starting from the top-left, top-right, bottom-left, and bottom right, respectively. An example of some coordinates might be: A: (3, 3) B: (4, 3) C: (1, 0) D: (2, 0) I can draw the parallelogram just fine, but I would like to fill it in with a gradient. I want the gradient to fill in from left to right, but matching the angle of the shape. The library I use (CAKE) requires a start and stop coordinate for the gradient. My stop and start would be somewhere half way between A and C, and end somewhere half way between B and D. Of course, it is not simply EXACTLY half way because the angles at A, B, C, and D are not right angles. So given this information (the coordinates), how to I find the point on the line A - C to start, and the point on the line B - D to stop? Remember, I'm doing this in JavaScript, so I have some good Math tools at my disposal for calculation.

  i have to make the colorpiker tool of flex, to be a customized one, i beleive you have seen the color picker tool of flex, when you click on the colorpicker, a swatch panel gets open, right?? now in that swatch, there are three compoenents, one is thw colorbox(on top left), beside right to this is the text field holding the hex code of the color and below these two tools, is the colors present in the small rectangles, now my need is this, i want to add three more buttons on the top empty space after textfield, so that structure of the colors pciker looks like this colorbox | textfield | button1 | button2 | button3 color rectangles, showing all default colors i beleive u understood, what i meant here, so plzz help me out in making a custom colorpciker class, thanx Namaste

• ScrolledWindow and wx.EVT_LEAVE_WINDOW

  Hi everyone! I have a frame with a textctrl. When the mouse enters the textctrl (EVT_ENTER_WINDOW) I show a PopupWindow on top of the textctrl, and when the mouse leaves the popup (EVT_LEAVE_WINDOW) I hide it again. Everything works fine, except when inside the PopupWindow there's a ScrolledWindow with shown scrollbars. The EVT_LEAVE_WINDOW gets fired when I move the mouse on top of a scrollbar, so it looks like wxPython thinks the scrollbars are not part of the scrolledwindow.. :/ I tried binding the event to the popup or the scrollwindow itself, but nothing changes.. Is there a way I could get around this? Many thanks! (wxPython 2.8.8.0 on Xubuntu 8.10)

• What could cause a button on a UIActionSheet to "miss" on touches?

Changes will be lost.", [creator propertyName]] delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:@"Stay Here" destructiveButtonTitle:@"Discard and Close" otherButtonTitles:@"Save and Close", nil]; [sheet showInView:self.view]; [sheet release]; It creates the action sheet, The buttons display, the Destructive button is on top, cancel button is on the bottom, other button (save and close) shows up in the middle, the top two buttons, (destructive and other) work fine, but the bottom button has a gap, so it is farther down than the other buttons. For some reason though, in order to press the button I need to touch where it would be if there was no gap. Touching the actual button doesn't work. Sorry if this isn't super clear, has anyone encountered something like this? I don't like to whip out the "I found a bug" card too fast, maybe I'm doing something wrong here.

  I create a number of add-ins for the Revit Structure API. Each tool has to habe a class which implements the interface IExternalCommand. In the latest version of Revit, for your tool to work you need to have two attributes on the class that implements that interface: [Regeneration(RegenerationOption.Manual)] [Transaction(TransactionMode.Automatic)] The values in brackets can change, but there must be something there. Often I am finding myself forgetting to put the attributes on, then when it comes to runtime it crashes. Is there any way in Visual Studio 2010 to add a compiler warning or error saying that if your class implements that interface it must have those 2 attributes? I have resharper if that helps. Can anyone point me into the right direction?

• What is the proper way to create a recursive entity in the Entity Framework?

  I'm currently using VS 2010 RC, and I'm trying to create a model that contains a recursive self-referencing entity. Currently when I import the entity from the model I get an error indicating that the parent property cannot be part of the association because it's set to 'Computed' or 'Identity', though I'm not sure why it does it that way. I've been hand-editing the file to get around that error, but then the model simply doesn't work. What is the proper way to get recursive entities to work in the Entity Framework. • Will more CPUs/cores help with VS.NET build times?

  I was wondering if anyone knew whether Visual Studio .NET had a parallel build process or not? I have a solution with lots of projects, every project has lots of markup/code, lots of types, etc. Just sitting there with intellisense on runs it up to about 700MB. But the build times are really slow and only seem to max out one of my two cpu cores. Does this mean the build process is single threaded? My solution's build dependency chain isn't linear, so I don't see why it couldn't be building some of the projects in parallel. I remember Joel Spolsky blogging about his new SSD, and how it didn't help with compile times, but he didn't mention which compiler he was using. We're using VS 2005. Anyone know how it's compilation works? And is it any different/better in 2008/2010?

• Add Reference to a WCF Service Executable

  I have 3 projects in my solution. 1 - client, 2 - server, 3 - WCF service library. Server executable exposes the service provided in the library. I need to add a reference to it, rather than to the library directly. When I open "Add Service Reference" and click "Discover", it only lists the library data, and doesn't list the executable server option. How do I reference a WCF executable service, so the client code would be generated automatically? I use VS 2010. Thanks for your help.

• Merging two templates in iText

  Let's say I have two PDF templates created with Adobe Acrobat, which are both single-page, 8.5x11 documents. The first template (A.pdf) has content for the top half of the page. The second template (B.pdf) has content for the bottom half of the page. (It just so happens the content in both templates does not "overlap" each other.) I would like to use iText to take these two templates and create a single, "merged" template from it (C.pdf) that is only a single page (with A.pdf's content on the top half and B.pdf's content on the bottom half). (I do not want to "merge" these two files into a 2-page document. I need the final product to be a single page.) I will be running iText in a servlet environment (Tomcat 6) but I don't think that makes a difference to the answer. Is this possible?

• What is the best method for implementing mouse wheel activity in Delphi VCL forms?

  As a long time user of Delphi 7, I've rolled my own mouse wheel handling in a few controls but lately I've noticed that some recent applications only need the mouse cursor to be placed over a control (e.g a list box or tree view) for the mouse wheel activity to cause that control to scroll. This feels nice (as opposed to having to click focus a control before it responds to the wheel. Now I've moved to Delphi 2010 I'm wondering what is the 'correct' behavior? And what can I use in Delphi that avoids me having to bodge this with my own solutions now? Thanks.

• Web part error on Team Foundation Server Project Portal Sharepoint site...

  Hi all, I recently installed TFS 2010 with the included sharepoint services on a single server. I am getting the following error multiple times on the project dashboard web page on the TFS2010 project protal after creating a brand new project in the default project collection. I am not an expert with WSS, so any guidance will be greatly appreciated. After reading a few articles I understand there are some DLL that are probably not declared as safe in a web config file. But I am not sure which DLL they are and where the web config file is. I looked at IIS to determine the directory structure in IIS is quiet different to the URL path ...Thanks very much. Web Part Error: A Web Part or Web Form Control on this Page cannot be displayed or imported. The type is not registered as safe. Thanks in advance..
